Phil is the reason I listen to all these bands because of the shirts he wore
Sam Bibens He was promoting underground bands through wearing t shirts and using his fame to exploit under the radar bands. He is as real as it gets and never ever went mainstream
Sam Bibens me too. All great bands. Phil turned me on to a lot of bands.
Nick Paxoulas ...got any recommendations? Appreciate it
Straycat jazz Listen to Crowbar self-titled and Eyehategod “Take As Needed For Pain”.
surprised he never listen to acid bath.
Phil is a misunderstood guy and has alot of hard times but hes still rockin I admire that he cleaned up and continues to do what he loves hes a very talented individual
glad to hear Phil giving credits to Exhorder!
yes, yes, YES
People sleep on them
Too underrated
Last year's comeback album by Exhorder was amazing.
@@jordancummins3092 that song Asunder🔥🔥🔥
Pantera was the perfect storm. Phil instilled in them a taste of these heavy underground bands, but Dime and Vinnie brought in a tightness and groove that didn't exist in that type of music. Yeah, you can hear Slayer and Exhorder in Pantera...but neither of those bands had the tightness that Pantera had.
[When you're right, you're right.]
And then there was Rex.... I kid, I kid, he's a wondeful bassist, and when he gets down got damn does he go!
14:02 man...that picture of Phil W/Dime’s guitar 😥
I love that.
Phil's like a younger Ozzy in the sense his survived everything.
Did he? Guy looks like a fucking zombie.
true
How cool is it to hear these guys give the Melvins respect?
everybody gives them respect, they shouldn't be mainstream, but they are respected worldwide dude. Here in Argentina there is people that worship them, so...
Nothing cool or special about it. Any musician can respect them. What non-musicians think doesn’t matter because they don’t understand music.
Yeah and Buzz talked about liking people there when they played.
Melvins influenced so many music scenes and bands. Thank god for the Melvins.
Kent O Amen. Without the Melvins.. no alive punk scene, no future metal bands, and no Nirvana
What do you mean by no alive punk scene
Kent O Melvin’s have never even wrote one good song and the singer smells like shit and is a total asshole. Fuck the Melvins. I’ve never even met someone who actually knows the title to one of their songs.
Colton Nelson Not true in any way, shape or form.
Stu Bone has a small mangina
His voice is just a bass lol
Alpha Royale love it. Wish he’d do a podcast. Maybe one day
Scream for 20 years lets see how our voices sound after lol
It's actually in b standard
im glad japanese people love metal too. rock the fuck on!
jacob jacksonsson i'd be intersted in someone sharing some links to popular japanese metal with me
jacob jacksonsson Anything by Daisuke ishiwatari, X japan, the mad capsule markets, dragon ash, my favourite current japanese band is CYCLAMEN, really technical proggy stuff.
Maximum the Hormone is where it's at, dude!
LynchCommunications chu chu lovely nima nima blalalan jkfnjlaskhgnl hejbgnjilrngjhe5q3nioatgbsizxjndtgljfasgnidjfkabkmn b
i too know of this band lolz
jacob jacksonsson the Japanese are awesome people
Holy shit, Phil really can play can’t he. Everyone’s seen him play whiplash, but damn, he’s actually decent
RuffisInc
Phil has been a guitar player in bands for literally 2 decades.
U way late to the party homie, lol Phil been writing great riffs in bands forever
Rip Vinnie Paul
9:58 “it’s like ughh ... tear it up big boy” lmao. Phil always cracks me up. Always.
やばい、すげえ勉強になる。
I love the slower groove of this stuff.
The best blues that anyone has ever played were the slower songs. Hendrix’s best solos were the slow blues solos. The same with BB King or any other interpreter of the blues.
Just finding this now and absolutely great interviews! So many amazing musicians
10:08 the fact that he just said alllllll that and the Japanese (or whatever) symbols for the whole conversation is just eight symbols is another reason why I could never learn Japanese or Chinese. I tried audio learning Cantonese. Threw the tape out the window of my car. Way too hard.
this brought me to tears...great series. thank you vice!
やっぱMELVINSはスゲーんだなあ
Brilliant video, why have I only just seen this?? Gives Phil a well deserved moment from a different angle
I always watch Japanese videos for the great English commentary.
Phil did contribute a lot to Pantera, but the input of the other members shouldn’t be overlooked. He was wearing and playing the same shit as they were when he joined the band. Of course he introduced them to heavier music, but he wasn’t the only creative force in that band. He doesn’t deserve all the credit.
2:45フィリップ・アンセルモがAGNOSTIC FRONTのTシャツ着ている。
Pantera is probably my favorite band of all time, but man I love that Crowbar shirt Phil is wearing in the video for "I'm Broken". I'm also a huge Crowbar fan - the true masters of sludge. The whole heavy music scene out of NOLA has been a huge boost to heavy music in general. Rock on!
That shell shock part sounded like Megadeth's "The King is Dead" at 10:23
Mrk00k00dud3 True dat!!
Really does!!
Wow! So many bands that I need to hear!
Getecha pull! RIP Abbott brothers. Got to see Pantera live once epic show! Also seen Down and Superjoint! 🤘🏻
To sit and smoke a joint with phil and just talk music. I could die a happy man
That would make you a very sad individual. No substance....
🤘. The old school scene & creative collaborations are always awesome to see. RIP Dime.
I'm proud to be from southern Louisiana, not enough people know our music, our style. The power, the raw strength, the mastery of intense sound, we like it like that and will change it for nobody. Love to my Louisiana brothers, Down, Super Joint Ritual, Crowbar, Eyehategod, Acid Bath, Pantera, Goatwhore, etc, etc, etc.
Flesh parade and paralysis are super sick as well
WHY did noisy take this down?? Thanks for the upload anyway!!
Awesome doc about the LA scene. Love it thanks for this. Sludge/southern metal for life. Pantera/down/crowbar/melvins/eyehategod/acid bath etc will always live on \m/
matt christian \m/
it's Nola not LA
gimmigimmigimmi NOLA metal scene. LA is in the acronym. Dingus
Southern Louisiana guy here, NO ONE rocks harder than us southern Louisianans do. Just saying. LOUISIANA REPRESENTS!!!
I wasn't sure what the title said, but when I saw Phils face in the thumbnail, I knew it would be metal!!! Great vid!!! ROCK ON BROS!!!
I like Phil. I repect him for speaking out on his drug use, and everything w Dime and Vinnie... legit.
100%
He wrote the riff to Mouth For War. Fucking hell didn’t know that
Yeah I probably would never had heard EYEHATEGOD without Phil wearing a t-shirt in a Pantera video. They grew on me and they just have a power to them that's hard to explain. Especially if you're having a shit day. It's either going to get worse or it gets better. Or both at the same time.
I remember soulfy putting out a note with condolences and support when Dimebag was killed. I was living in my aunt's apartment and it was a really dark time for me. I had been listening to pantera since 1999 or something, when I bought the FBD album, but I knew very little about the members, so at that point I had no idea of how big a loss that was. I found a lot more about it and started to dig it a lot more from 2010, when I bought a second pantera album, CFH. Then I got all pantera albums, including live ones. But it was already over.
Maximilian Dummnichtswürdigkerl yeah it really sucks. Imagine how hard it was for Phil. ;-(
2 chicago bands.....master and trouble tshirtz....awesome
14:00 That picture hit me pretty hard
I've always loved this band .
Who cares
So cool seeing Phil playing guitar.
Lmao where have you been?
Rougarou Cajun search up PanterA covering Metallica with Jason where Dime is on the vocals & Phil's on the guitar!
Rougarou Cajun it is, Phil shredding & Dime singing!
Phil is the guitarist in superjoint. Hes also the guitarist on some(few) Down songs
Phil don't play guitar in Down dude.. He sings. He plays guitar in Arson Anthem, Necrphagia-through the eyes of the dead record
Phil has such a good taste
Phil is great,loves animals
Really? That's all you have to say?
RIP to the abbot bros. Pantera's mark will be felt for decades to come.
Fuck yeah, best thing outof Noisey and Vice in general. Thank you so much
Ever heard of the Ramones. Came from them
phils band was really good live rock on!
Well sir... It worked. Your shirts are the basis for the beginnings of my path of doom, sludge and stoner metal, to this day Crowbar is my all time favorite band.
Why did they remove these clips from the english site?!
a fuck you to the guy who produced it and later left the company

Phil alsermo he's a legend
He is the GOD of metal!
You're stupid. His name isn't alsermo.
Vinnie Paul R.I.P
Dimebag Darrell R.I.P
🎼🎵🎶🎵♩🎸🎶🎵♩🥁
When I see Phil Anselmo speak about not being able to go to Dimebags funeral it sinks in deep because I had a similar experience except it was my father.
I never got to see him or say goodbye. The family kept his illness from me so they could claim his property without my knowledge.
That's what happened. 8 years ago now I've had to give up the fight, accept my loss and visit a grave once or twice a year when I get home.
Fuck people!!!
How can they do this 😢. What the humanity
Wow. Some people's greed have no limits whatsoever
I help anyone watching this, and doesn't have enough time to watch it all.
Heroin, and LOTS of it.
NOLA in a nutshell
Holy shit I used to hang with Sammy from acid bath wow so cool
Also how bout a band severed mass from down there
Nobody cares who you hung out with

i dig on that Author & Punisher t shirt
Mayla Putro soooo many fuckin badass T-shirt’s in this video. I waste all my money on vinyl, guitars and T-shirt’s.
Now we know from where mustaine copied his kill the king riff - 10:22
true, but it's not really a good riff anyway
_now Vinnie Paul passed away_
ヘヴィメタル、パンク、ハードコア、彼らには全部重要なルーツ。
Are you a Japanese white supremacist?
Anyone notice them playing "The Ignorant Point" at 2:30? That song came out til 3 years later

Down- we knew him well. Better late than never, right?
author and punisher shirt yessss
Check out Sabbatic Feast for some Louisiana Death ☠️ Metal
what does the title translate to?
Pantera ruled the 90's and kept metal alive! RIP Vinnie and Dime!
whats Phil talking about??? like Dimebag needs to understand Slayer, he doesnt need Kerry King, i think that was understood LONG ago!!!!
@@MrAndyNichwell Vallalah riff sounds like a bit Antichrist riff.
So they knew i think about Slayer.
@@MrAndyNichAnd musicaly Pantera never were on a glam phase, unless you consider nwobhm bands and judas Priest like it
Exhorder didnt get acknowledge in this documentary
Phil Anselmo is the best frontman EVER

Kirk looks like billy joel
Both are Jews, if that makes sense
Fuck man, watching Phil cry is heart wrenching...
Why cant you find this on the English side of YT? lol
Tammy is my gals Google account and I sometimes get on here and look up music because that's my area lol. But yea I've been following Anselmo since 93 when I was 13. Back when I this small Texas town I had to read RIP or KERRANG cause there was no internet.
Alguien podría traducir esto al castellano?
"lotta melvins" s'all you need to know
Phil and Kate live 20min from me.
What is the song at 2:10?
❤❤❤❤
You knowww it's truuuuuueeee
I think one of the reasons this scene has retained an individual sound among each the bands despite being incestuous has to do to not becoming mainstream, or a fad which happened with Seattle, as the best example. But even Seattle had that prior to blowing up.
Does Phil have eyes anymore?
この一連の動画について
ダイムバックが亡くなって幕を閉じたとか言っている馬鹿がいたけど、

ダイムとニューオリンズのシーンは関係ない。
Fuck yeah. That's what I'm talking about.
What's the song that starts at 4:34?
It's an Eyehategod song. I forget what it's called but it's from their self titled album.
John Scott Worthless Rescue by Eyehategod.
A damn shame Phil took such poor care of his voice
Marinđa Nole it's a shame he can't sing anymore BUTTT his voice is badfuckingass
His voice is back. I can feel its power in the air.
