His voice is so deep you can see Adele rolling!
Is he related to Macho Man Randy Savage ? ...
I'm waiting for him to say "Well you know Mean Gene .... "
Lmao amazing comment
I enjoy Phil Anselmo interviews whenever I get the opportunity to listen to them. They are so informative, raw, honest and dare I say... humble. This man has grown immensely in his knowledge and wisdom learned throughout his years of experience. When Phil speaks, one should listen.
i member first hearing pantera on spongbob when i was like 5
hahaha! I remember that too.
i think i can remember the episode name it was on it was like hibernation week
Yep, that's the one.
EMPiiRE the song on spongebob was a shortened version of the song death rattle off of reinventing the steel incase anybody was curious lol
Kyle Alfonso not shortened, just instrumental
Man, I am so lucky I grew up in a day and age where I got to experience Panera's music including seeing them live when I was 16. Like Phil said, some people never got to experience it and I am grateful I did.
Me too
I've never heard of Panera
+John Trow it's the most metal bread in the world. Gotta love auto correct.
+Ben Fama Jr. Lol
Pantera is fuckin awesome I've seen them twice
"Hippie lettuce" Lol
That would be a cool name for a Stoner Rock band.
Listening to this guy gets me through each day in life
Phil Anselmo's a good man with a good heart he just has his demons and its good to see that for the most part he seems to be winning the battle with them these days. I think real Pantera fans would love to see Phil, Rex and Vinnie Paul on stage together again but in their hearts there's no denying the sadness that Dime's absence from that stage would bring.
Im good friends with Pentagram and was at their philly show when they opened for down. Got to meet an hang with Phil. Funny as hell.
Phil needs a reality show!
I honestly feel terrible for this dude when it comes to the entire Dimebag and Vinny Paul situation. I mean, he said some dumb shit back in the day when Pantera was going through turmoil but there's no way he could have ever known what was going to happen to Dime. Now he's in a situation where he can't make that right at all, even though he continues trying to reach out to Vinny.
D'Artangan Oswald Fuck Vinny his current band sucks ass
I wasn't really intending for the comments to go in that direction, but I do happen to agree with your opinion. I don't like Hell Yeah at all. I miss Mudvayne.
D'Artangan Oswald lol, I think it's wrong what the Abbott family did to Phil after Dimes death.
Lets face it, if it wasn't for Phils amazing voice and stage presence they would never have gotten as far as they did I don't care what anyone says. They didn't even allow him at the funeral which is bullshit.
Yeah, I personally didn't agree with that decision, and again I can't say this with any kind of certainty, because I didn't know the guy personally, but I don't think Dime would have wanted things handled that way. I also don't think he'd want 3 of the most important people in his life (Rex, Vinny, and Phil) to not still be brothers like they were during all the good times they had together. Dime seems like he was way too laid back and mellow to hold a grudge against Phil for over a decade. I think if he had a way to speak now that he'd tell Vinny to let it go, and tell everyone that tries to blame Phil for his murder that it wasn't Phil's fault and that he loves and forgives Phil for all the bullshit that happened. I could be totally wrong, but that's just the kind of guy I think Dime was. I've never seen any other musicians who had anything bad to say about him (other than Phil during some of his dumbass phase interviews).
yea. I feel the same.
I could listen to Phil speak 24/7...love this man...💖
suprised hes still alive...hes so goddam intense..but mesmerising
Dimebag had to opportunity back in the day, before he was famous to join Megadeth...He said, only way I'll join is if my brother Vinnie can come too. Dave said they already had a drummer, so Dimebag passed. If Vinnie wants to never do Pantera again, No Dimebag, no Pantera...I can understand that.
I am 20 now in 2018 and wish so badly to have seen Pantera. RIP brothers.
Phil gives the best interviews. He's got the gift of gab.
I was at the front of the crowd at the Pantera Donnington gig back in '94. It was intense and absolutely fucking awesome - still have great memories. The crowd were so packed in, that if you tried to jump in the air, your feet would take a while to reach the ground again, and if you fell to the ground, you were never getting back up again.
Who would be your ideal Pantera tribute lineup?
Vinnie, Rex, Phil, and put Zakk Wylde on guitar. Too bad Vinnie can't get over his grudge against Phil. I don't really care for Zakk's playing because of his excessive use of pinch harmonics but he is good and would hopefully tone it down with it being a tribute and not his own songs/solos, especially since he was good friends with Dime
. but Vinnie said it would be disrespectful. his brother is dead people need to let it go
Nikki Stitch I guess I just don't understand Vinnie's point of view. Any show that would happen would likely be a tribute to Dime, a sign of respect. As long as it was a one-off and they didn't try to replace Dime and release some new material calling it Pantera. That is the point at which it could become disrespectful.
ColossalTriangle6425 That´s a good point! I wouldn´t mind if someone released a new album even if it would be weird listening to Pantera without Dimebag! And as you said in your first comment about Zakk... He feels like the natural choice of person even though he has a different style of guitarplaying.
yea but even dimes brother said it will never happen. you got Hellyeah that's the closest you will ever get
I seriously doubt that Phil will ever read this, but I thought I'd share it anyway. I started college two years ago, I met one of my best friends on the first day because he and I both happened to wear Pantera shirts to a comedy show. Here's two wide-eyed kids straight out of highschool, we don't know anyone and we haven't made any friends yet, and neither of us are old enough to have even thought about seeing Pantera live. Yet we bonded over a band that broke up before we were 12. That's pretty fucking cool if you ask me.
Therapist: Don't worry ISIS-Phil isn't real he can't hurt you.
ISIS-Phil:
Great interview. Phil has paid his dues for any (if any) past transgressions. I miss Pantera. Saw them 6 times throughout their day in So-Cen-Tex and no one could rip a roof off the place like Pantera (No disrespect to others). The only person I could legitimately say could fill the void on stage is Zakk. Zakk can play they songs with respect, and he loved Dime.
+ only guitar player with similar playing style is Zakk. Its like they practiced and learned together :) amazing !
I fucking love the Old-Fashioned-American feeling Phil has.
Last of a dying breed that's for sure
Phil has always been great, a genuine human being!
I can't hear him talking brb going to buy a subwoofer
nicolhaidi The earth trembles with every word he says
weird vampirism lmfao!!Phil's a legend!!
It's safe to say 20 years ago, an official metal head was born, that would be me! I would have just bought far beyond driven and Vulgar. Pantera should get back together with Zakk on guitars of course.
When he was talking about what might have been if Dimebag wasn't killed, I nearly cried manly tears. Being robbed of so much good metal is incredibly sad.
iCHAWY its much bigger than "metal", being robbed of an incredible human being is a lot sadder my friend
+Charly The Kid that's enough.
I agree with you 100%. The thoughts of what could have been or just haunting for so many of us. They were a true juggernaut.
Right and you could tell just bringing it up hurts Phil to this day. The twenty year anniversary of his death is coming up in a few days.Im gonna get stoned and drink a black tooth grin playing Pantera all day on the 8th. RIP Dime and Vinnie forever stronger than all 💪
I could listen to this man for hours, always interesting interviews
The ever changing looks of Phil Anselmo
Holy crap he has a massive beard now lol
Tyler Quantrill did he convert to islam?
lol!
\m/
x
Alastair Gardner lol xD \m/
Alastair Gardner
no he converted to Amish.LMAO
This man is a legend!
6:02 Phils humility finally shows
Pantera was and still is special the ultimate perfect storm of melodic choas fitting perfectly together I grew up in that time and saw pantera live a few times they were amazing I was. Am also a grunge fan as you can tell but my god pantera was perfect and when phil speaks of that band it makes me want to fucking cry I wish vinnie and phil and rex could do something it will never be the same without dime but by god something is better than nothing
It seems that unless you truly LIVED the experience of a live PanterA show back in the 90's. and experienced the raw, unfiltered, power and sheer goose bump inducing AWE that they inspired in the average metal fan on the floor at the time.....you just simply DONT GET IT, you cant get...and never will.
PanterA IS LEGEND. They are forever in my humble opinion the most badass metal band in history.
The combination of Swagger, Ferocity and Coolness that Phil exuded on stage mixed with the Wizardry of the one and only Dimebag Darrell's unique style simply put - those four dudes made magic.
This is why a "reunion" of PanterA should never, EVER happen!
It would be sacrilege for any other guitarist to go on stage with Phil, Rex and Vinnie and play those songs.
SACRILEGE.
May he drink black toothed grins in heaven all day long, and smoke stanky green buds until he smiles.....
R.I.P. Dime.
LEGEND !
Two Words....... BAD ASS!!
When I got Great southern trendkill as a birthday gift when I was 10 it changed my life. Been a metal head for 23 years since that Day
That's cool bro. The same thing happened to me when I was a kid. I was 16 in 92 when Vulgar Display of Power came out.I was blowed away and was forever changed. In 94 was blowed away again with that same feeling When I heard Far Beyond Driven the first time
this man should have his own talkshow
if i could give this man a hug, it would be the the greatest and most intense hug i would ever give someone.
This is just so darn cool! if you're a true rocker or simply loves music with big balls in it you'll know why.
Phil's awesome. I appreciate someone who is always himself and just tells it like it is. It's too bad we don't have more people like that today in the PC world we have going on.
I have no idea what he's talking about, but such an interesting guy, I love his interviews!
As a fan...I say it's not the fan's choice... You are talking about something that is not Pantera... That said...they should do something like they did for Death and Chuck. Get the remaining three members up and have a different famous guitarist for every song...do one short tour and be done with it.
imagine if the fan's decided to somehow, make this happen...Vinnie would be all bummed out the whole time, like cursing under his breath while he drums haha
That would suck, Vinnie would never play with Phil again or replace his brother.
Everybody except Vinnie are on board for doing some sort of reunion project. Even he says that Zakk Wylde would be the guy if they actually did something but that it ain't gonna happen.
it was his brother that died, they did everything together all there lifes, he'll never fully recover & Phil talked so much shit about them until the day Dime died & even afterwards. Give Vinnie Paul some respect & stop badgering him. it took a lot to get back up on the drums, hes doing better in life now. lets leave him be.
ShockMe1994 It's not as if I said anything bad about Vinnie, just that he's the only one stopping a reunion from happening. Don't really see how that constitutes "badgering."
I do think it would be better if he let the anger go and forgave Phil. Phil admits that he was fucked up. He even said, "I have no excuse, I was a junkie" to Rita, who in turn actually forgave him.
Regardless of what Phil said, he's not the one who pulled the trigger.
Damn how time flys by, this was already 4yrs ago. Fuck
Love and Respect..............................
Met Phil in Philly in Sept 2012 at a Down show. Was a guest of Pentagram (who opened-they are friends of mine). He was absolutely hilarious. His mentioning of love for music is true-he fanboyed in front of bobby liebling big time, and watched from behind amps onstage when H.a.a.r.p. and warbeast were playing. Great time.
got into pantera when I was 15 yrs old. shortly dime dies. r.i.p. dimebag.
*died*
Pantera was one of my most influential bands that's for sure. My friends and I had my buddy's Dad take us to the Sepultura, Biohazard Pantera concert in 94 I think. Fucking amazing. After that I must have seen Pantera 7 more times all the way through college. Damn that was a band.
Vinnie recently said he will never do any Pantera reunion. Don't get your hopes up.
rob manson Yeah fuck a guy who doesn't want to do a "reunion" when the guitarist who happens to be his brother was murdered. Phil couldn't sing most Pantera shit now anyways...lastly, why don't you say fuck the guy who was going to cause the band to break up anyways because he was a fucking junky?
***** Some comments are so stupid you just have to ignore them. Dimebag revolutionized heavy metal guitar. The dude just said Superjoint and Down were better than Pantera...dude is obviously on crack.
Thats cause hes a prick and can't grow up
He needs to pull the bug out his ass.
endocry Maybe you've never seen the Behind The Music where VP says he blames Phil for his brother being shot. Vinnie is childish and treats people like shit, both Rex and Dime's ol' lady have both said so. VP is an alcoholic, an alcohol addict, you'd think he could empathize with his brother Phil falling victim to the needle FIFTEEN YEARS AGO and celebrate him finding his way out of the heroin trap. Dime must be rolling over in his grave.
Phil I love ya like a brother... you've always been about us fans. Even though a part of me was lost when Dime died I'm doing what you are. 1 foot in front the other. Day to day. Cause right now that's all I got is today. Tomorrow might be a different day... Thanks for your words, songs, bands, music and thoughts. Come to TN !!!! Your bro in music,N8knox
He is who he is, love it
RIP Vinnie & Dime.
I was lucky enough to see Pantera once at Ozzfest 98 Milton Keynes Bowl.
Such a shame Phil didn't get to bury the hatchet with Vinnie and we won't get to see them on the same stage again.
Phil is Legend by the way . Metal Master . Bring it & bring it & bring it ................
Lovely interview !
"hippie lettuce"
i see phil's going back to the reinventing the steel look again xD badass
Best interview phils the man
You're goddamn right Phil, lightning in a bottle. So fortunate to see them 3 times.
only dude that makes me not care to get older. the guy remains badass forever
very good communicator
2017 needs some come back
Hell yeah (no pun intended), 20 yrs later, & after what this man, the 1 & Only Phillip H. Anselmo has been thru & not 1 grey hair, we love ya Phil
perfect storm, perfect time. Pantera was and IS #1....the legend continues.
RIP Dime
Australian death metal scene. Intense Hammer Rage comes to mind. Great interview
As a 22 year old who missed pantera and that whole era of music and living, it means a lot to hear this from phil.
Melbourne. Straya.
Heard a new (to me) metal band - Vexation - last night play a killer set. . They closed with Strength Beyond Strength : )
Phil's current beard kicks ass
I live literally down the road from phil
Where do u live?
+LT02 lol
I live about 20 minutes away from his compound lol. I wonder if he got any water in his house, I don't know how bad Fulsom flooded
Phil rocks,awesome!!!
Fortunate to see PANTERA live 2 times: The Reinventing the steel tour and the Real Steel tour With SLAYER.Man,hands down, the best live band.EVER.PANTERA helped me get through bullshit school and DIMEBAG is one main reasons I picked up a GUITAR and started jamming!!! PANTERA FOREVER,MAN!!!!!!!!!!!
moral of the story.
appreciate what you have, enjoy the moment because you never know what is around the corner + drugs/booze, ego's are a volatile mix.
Props to Phil on the Australia Metal scene comment.
Aussie metal is second to NONE, i bet Phil was talking about Portal
The sad thing about aussie metal is there is NO financial backers willing to take on the aussie metal bands.
Pantera will always be the best band of all time. No questions Asked.
Great and funny interview.
Lose the beard. Reunion sounds good.
Anyone else notice that Prince was playing the riff off of "I'm Broken" on SNL last weekend when Chris Rock hosted? Listen to the riff, it's the same as I'm Broken.
The legend continues
Great man
There continuing the link!
Every answer made me laugh. Thank you Phil!
the truly epic man!!
The wise Phil Anselmo! Somehow he always makes sense even when he doesn't. The dude is just a glorious human being.
Still love ya Phil!!!
I feel like my voice gets deeper just by listening to this guy
I was there 20 years ago watching them. Fucking 20 years!!! I rememmber aerosmith being awesome too. It was also the first year they had two stages, unheard of in those days.
You know i respect the hell outta Phil.I know some don't like him because of some of the mistakes he's made, but we are all human and we all make mistakes.Hes real when most people think hes putting on a persona. I think hes just being who he is. He doesn't take himself too seriously because hes been around the block more than once.I think Phil is one of the greatest front men of all time.RIP Dime and Vinnie forever stronger than all 💪
I love how Phil is constantly asked about a Pantera reunion and it never seems to bother him. Its nice to see that in comparison to the whole Led Zeppelin shitstorm
this guy is now into spirituality, I kinda like that, I'm a huge Pantera fan
I don't want a Pantera reunion necessarily. Maybe a tribute concert to be filmed for a DVD (little closure for us fans). Possibly have other famous bands play Pantera songs. Then end the night with a reunion set featuring the surviving 3 with a revolving door of of guitar players Dime looked up to, especially EVH! And then get Zakk to end the night. I don't think Pantera fans ever got the closure we needed!!!!
HOLY CRAP PHIL YOUR BEARD! :P
Awesome interview dope or not Phil is a wise fucking man and a legend 'Nuff said!
damn, Phil still looks like 25
without the beard tho
But he sounds like he just emerged from the grave as a rotten corpse trying to eat your brains.
Looks but doesn’t sound
No he doesn't.
I remember Pantera!
'Hippie Lettuce.' He always makes me want to have some Hippie Lettuce.
(PANTERA rules!!!!)
The ideal lineup would be the guy from "kGmusicpage" (on youtube) in place of dime. And the vocalist for a band called "the sign of the southern cross" (seriously look them up its crazy how much he sounds like Phil) in place of Phil. As for rex in vinny, not to take away from them, but any 2 professional bassists and drummers will do. That is all
The message from you Phil are different for everyone, we all have your message from different standpoints! :)
great!!!!!
phil is awesome
I love phil!
Hay phil rock n roll is never dead pass it along. Legands and brothers live on forever and us pantera fans we dont go away brotha as a fan i miss vinnie and dime you guys brought light into a slowly dieing breed of music and through them and meny others re spect and walk Abbott brothers for ever there up there jaming with Randy Rhoads jimi Hendrix they loved it all
Blues rock metal
Phil is amazing. I think he has reverence for PanterA. His word is law in all heavy music.
Phil alsemo -vocals Vince -drums bass -Rex Dave Mustain -lead guitar
What happened to Phil man???
