I just looked her up she is in top 25 best selling vocalists having sold 140 million records. I’m just a super fan because she is my goddess. You are def the handsomest UA-camr Saeed. Please do more DSB!!!! She is unique ( I do like the theatrical). The Performance by DSB written by Pet Shop Boys for her is just sooooooooo emotional. You’ll never have anyone else with DSB longevity and different styles. 4 octave range. Not bad!
One word: DIVA. She inhabits these songs and the performances are intense and operatic. It's no surprise she was such an icon to gay people back in the 60's and 70's. A song like this, talking about having to "perform" to hide your true feelings, would have resonated deeply at a time when people had to keep their sexuality a secret.
Nancy Wilson's version came out in 1971, and Shirley's came out in 1972. However, Shirley's version is more well known, and she included this song in her concert line-up quite often in the early 1970s. Shirley's diction is impeccable and you can hear every word. But note, Shirley has the voice to sing very soft beautiful melodies as well. Because these types of dramatic songs are those her fans want her to sing the most, she gives them what they want. Here she performs a beautiful melodic torch song, titled, "Ballad Of The Sad Young Men" on her 1976 TV Show: ua-cam.com/video/_-cAn1vWu58/v-deo.html
Sorry to bother again but, I just saw a compilation of performances of our Dame, I believe it's called: Shirley Bassey - Compilation of live vocals. It's for dying for. Ana
I've been searching other reactors that I like, in this case, a word from president pat, and he describe dame shirley as the most complete artist, in terms of vocals, performance, acting and elegance. I'm sending a list of songs and stunning performances by our Dame: " yesterday when i was young", 1973 TV special "Goldfinger", 1974 live at royal albert hall "You can have him", live "As long as he needs me", 1961 live Medley at Royal Variety Performance, 1987 "The party is over", the Ed Sullivan Show "I, who have nothing", 1979 live show "Diamonds are forever", 1987 live Berlin The flabbergasted Ana with this phenomen😊
I love her vocals and the sheer drama of her performances. She draws one in and we get lost in her story... she owns every song she sings. My dear mother was a huge fan and when she came to Australia my mum took me to see her show. I've never ever forgotten that night.... Such a legend
What's greater than power??? How about omnipotent... her voice is almost nuclear. I've seen Shirley perform live several times, and there's just no description for what you experience in that 2-hour period. It's almost other-wordly. It's funny, my two favorite artists are Barbra and Shirley, and they couldn't be further apart in style and sound. After a Bassey concert, you feel as though you've just been shot out of a canon. After a Streisand concert, you feel as though you've been lifted into another ether and placed on a cloud. Bassey hits you with a cannonball, Streisand a feather... but both are powerful and knock you out. Love the dichotomy. The history of this song is it was originally recorded in Spanish by Sandro, under the title "Asi", in 1968. I don't speak Spanish so can't say if the lyrics are the same, but the music composition is. The first release in English under the current title, was in 1971 by Nancy Wilson, and then Shirley in 1972... her's being the more popular version. Thanks again, for another great reaction, Saeed.😊
You need to react to "The Greatest Performance Of My Life," by Nancy Wilson. She sangs this song in the the style of Nancy Wilson but puts her Judy Garland Shirley Bassey style to the performance.
Oh my God. I have no words do describe this DAME. She's really the GOAT. And the ones who come 2o, can be awesome but, are miles far away from SHIRLEY BASSEY. Ana
Yes, great fun! DSB has done several songs with more modern artists. Suggest "The Rhythm Divine" music video with the band, Yello. And for the charms, "Shirley, Do You Own a Ferrari?" by Chris Rea, who also sings on it a little 🤩. (Love Saeed's accent BTW!)
Shirley Bassey has such a huge voice. The first song I ever heard her sing was the Theme song to "Goldfinger." If you go looking for the Nancy Wilson version, you probably won't find the singer from Heart. There is another Nancy Wilson who was a contemporary of Shirley's. That Nancy Wilson was an awesome singer, as well, but has a quieter, jazzier, soulful style.
The song "The Greatest Performance of My Life," written by Robert I. Allen, Sandro and Oscar Anderle, was first released by Nancy Wilson in 1971. Nancy Wilson's studio recording of that song is available on UA-cam: ua-cam.com/video/y41maQQWS3I/v-deo.html Nancy's performance is both jazzy and dramatic. Both Shirley's and Nancy's performances are stellar, and I am grateful that we have records of both.
Skip forward into 2022 and I think 2023 The Royal Albert Hall London age 84 singing live for the 60th Anniversary of James Bond and the other event BAFTA, and the voice and person still very much the same, with absolutely no surgery as some people do, no training on the voice, apart from the exercises Dame Shirley took up for her voice back in the 1980's after she lost her daughter
The Legendary Jazz/Stylist singer Nancy Wilson performed this song first. More Nancy Wilson should be added to your reactions. Nancy Wilson released the song in 1971. Because the song and Nancy Wilson are primarily confined to the Jazz world....it wasn't a pop hit.....like many Jazz artists ....the general public do not know of these artists except those who follow that genre of music which in this case is Jazz.
I saw Shirley Bassey in concert back in the early 1980s. It was very disappointing due to the fact that she was only on stage for 1/2 hour. We payed a lot of money for the tickets and were very disappointed.
That might have been after Dame Shirley had problems with her voice, after her daughter passed away, until this day Dame Shirley doesn't know what happened, whether it was murder or suicide, or purely by accident, it's never been a closed case
I love her ❤ She's pure talent. 😊
The incomparable dynamic one and only unique fabulous Dame Shirley Bassey!!❤❤❤
She told us the story a broken woman giving the best performance of her life. Her eyes, the gestures, the voice.
She even did the song Creep with that band, and she was probably in her 60s. And it was so good! ❤😊
She’s so self aware camp and I love it
At last you've discovered the most powerful talented singer. Ms Shirley Bassey
AGREE!!!
I think she felt this one personally!
I just looked her up she is in top 25 best selling vocalists having sold 140 million records. I’m just a super fan because she is my goddess. You are def the handsomest UA-camr Saeed. Shirley Bassey singing "This Is My Life" 1973 at The Royal Albert Hall, London was absolutely sensational.
This lady really has one of the most remarkable voices in music history .The extraordinary
power and exquisite diction she exhibits is peerless .
She's Welsh and black. ❤ grew up in Wales/England 😊
She is the full package when it comes to her performances 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

The word is Superkalifragalisticexpiallydocious
TX Saeed for expanding my general knowledge, experience in the musical world and your hard work. You are so appreciated. Greetings from South Africa
Thanks for joining me ! Grateful that people tune in and spend some time with me. Greetings from Belgium.

Have you reacted to her singing "Goldfinger"?
Check out Old Man River performance by Judy Garland. The live version from her TV show early 60s. So powerful and emotional

Incredible...

in 2010 Shirley released a new song called THE PERFORMANCE ...simply brilliant
Thanks for the recommendation.
Please do Gold finger performed and sang by Shirley Bassey
Loleatta Holloway did a magnificent disco version. The Larry Levan mix is the best.
Thanks for sharing these. Really great song.

Listen to the brilliant LIVE "1975" (not the 1974) performance of *If And When* by The Three Degrees ❤
You need to react to "The Greatest Performance Of My Life," by Nancy Wilson. She sangs this song in the the style of Nancy Wilson but puts her Judy Garland Shirley Bassey style to the performance.
Nobody like her…she did one of the Bond film’s opening, amazingly, too!
She actually did 3 and is the only person has done more than one. They are the only 3 songs i know of her (besides the songs i reacted to)
@ you do your homework! Nice!
Oh my God. I have no words do describe this DAME. She's really the GOAT. And the ones who come 2o, can be awesome but, are miles far away from SHIRLEY BASSEY. Ana
Exactly! Just no words. Magnificent performer.
Try another side of DSB performing History Repeating Itself with Propellerheads 😉
Thanks for the recommendation!

@ Her daughter death was in 1985. We saw her a few years before that.
@@leonardkrasner4399 then possibly problems with her voice, Dame Shirley wouldn't just leave the stage for no reason
@ it doesn’t really matter what the reason was. Nothing was communicated to the audience in regards to the abrupt ending of her performance.
And she was in excellent voice.
