I just wish Icom would swallow their pride and do APRS like other brands. That's why i'm still on an old Yaesu i would othervice have replaced a long time ago.

Just discovered an annoying "feature" with my 5100. If you have weather alert on and the weekly test happens, it never exits and goes back to the previous channel or scan. Ugh. Maybe it's not technically possible but I seriously doubt dedicated weather alert radios have this issue. I'm going to have to see over time how much this issue annoys me.

One other feature with the bt is you can program the radio with it. I would like to try drats but drats are no longer functional

I dont really understand the point of digital voice and especially over the internet as it seems very niche and not very pragmatic and this seems like echo link has done this very well. I love the idea of digital data (geospatial, multimedia, various application data and email) using dstar but want it to be able to be widely implemented. I love the idea even more of dstar computer networks that are mostly independent of the internet and where digital voice is a side effect and second fiddle to generic digital data the way it does on the internet.
I want to be able to make applications easily that will send data over dstar networks the way average joe developers send application data over ISP provided internet (sans encryption of course). Basically, I shouldn't have to use AFSK protocols like AX.25 to talk to everyone regardless of where they purchased their transceiver and literally every person on the planet has a 64 QAM capable radio in their back pocket, like what are we doing?
Also, the radios don't have a built in TNC anymore, cant talk on 220, 900 or directly access 1.2GHz but at least I've got bluetooth and 6.022 x 10 ^23 memory slots for repeaters and whatever.
