HAM RADIO: Icom ID 5100 How to Use Nearby Repeater Function and Import Repeater List
Вставка

- Today we are taking a look at the nearby repeater function that is a feature of the Icom ID-5100. This is a function that is available for not only DSTAR repeaters, but analog as well. This also includes a quick how to of just how to get the repeater list installed on the radio. Hint... it is SUPER SIMPLE.

The ID-5100 will actually take a full-size SD card. You can use a mini-SD, but you will have to leave it in the adapter in order to use it in the radio. The ID-4100 does use a mini-SD card. If you travel a lot, you can actually have multiple Repeater Lists on the card. Just rename them for the city or area you usually visit. When you visit those areas, just have the radio import the list for that area. Also, if you want to use the radio as a base station and have problems getting a GPS fix, there is a method for setting a manual location in the Menu. This will allow you to use the near repeater feature inside the house. In my home, with a standard shingle roof, the radio will pick up a GPS fix after a few minutes. This does give you some workable options, though.
Yeah, that is what I am using... a micro SD card in an adapter. Thanks for the info, gGlen, and thanks for watching! 73!
You’re a life saver! Thank you for making this video. Just finally got my ID-5100A installed in my truck, and this was eating my lunch lol.
Great! Glad it helped. That is by far my favorite feature of this radio! Thanks for watching!
@@K5ATA Any idea how to turn skip off on the repeater list?
I’ve tried deleting and starting a new spot for my hotspot, yet it keeps putting it on “Skip” and not showing up in DR mode.
I’ve tried holding the group and hitting “skip” nothing, tried “skip off all” and nothing.
***Update***
Finally figured it out. Apparently DR has to be on, and just set offset to 0.00.
I live in Oxford, just got my HAM ticket yesterday, and am planning on getting this radio. perfect timing and video. Thanks and subbed. KI5MIJ
Awesome! I’d like to invite you to our local club meeting. We meet the first Tuesday of each month on the ole miss campus. Send me an email and I will have you added to the club email list. If you need any help getting thing programmed let me know! Goodgamehamradio@gmail.com.
Thank for reminding me…been 1 year since I needed that ACTIVE list…73s Chuck WA4PEQ
Good video! Even though we have the 7100 I think this would work with it. I’d like to know what D-star repeaters there are around us. I don’t think there is very many, but it’ll load the FM repeaters.
Thanks Bill. I’m working on getting a 7100 to do some videos of it as well. Probably have to wait until these are done lol.
Hi good game
Hey Chris!
If my radio is version 1.21 do i use the 1.2 or just the id-5100a download?
Thanks for the info. If people cant figure out how to use an SD card then at this point they are WAY over their heads trying to set up and use a ham radio. This it the first video I could find actually detailing HOW these repeaters get transferred onto the cards. I was trying using chirp , loading from repeaterbook and getting multiple files with many of the same repeaters appearing on multiple lists as I did manual searches for repeaters along my planned 600 mile route. A tedious time wasting memory game. There had to be a better way...
Glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching!
I did everything you did, twice, even changing to ver 1.20. (Which i come to find out when it turns on is only ver 13.4. Not sure what to do about that) I’m here in Spring TX and there are many FM repeaters near me. The only one that loads into the CSV file is Flatonia. Great spot for watching trains, but is about 100 miles from here. Thoughts and suggestions? 73
I’ve seen you say you are running a DMR hotspot. Are you running a separate hotspot for Dstar or just using the repeaters?
I’ve switched the hotspot to DSTAR. I like the audio better. There is a DMR repeater in town I could use if I wanted. Thanks for watching
How do you find your location number? I tried street address, just city, state, and the GPS from the radio itself but either nothing changes or I get an error screen pop up.
Then why do I have to buy the software for? What is the RT systems software and cable needed?
You don’t need to buy software. RT Systems makes nice stuff, and for some radios it is absolutely a godsend. The 5100 is super easy to program using the sd card
@@K5ATA thank you for that! helped me research in the right direction and answer that question.
Can you tell me how many frequencies it will scan at a time. I'm hoping to put 10,000 frequencies in and drive around the country and it will scan those frequencies as I get in the correct area or does it only scan 1000 at a time
It does not scan all 1000 the whole time… it scans the ones that are “close”. How many it will scan at a time that it considers close, I am not sure. I do know that when I was in Atlanta it seemed to scan a bunch of them, as there were several around.
Is there a way to scan the whole list of nearby repeaters instead of just choosing one? It would be nice when traveling to discover which repeaters have the nets and whatnot when you are in unfamiliar area
Yes. When in DR mode you can select scan then all repeaters (if I recall correctly, I’m not at the radio right now). The scan will begin and will update as your location changes. I use it this way all the time. Thanks for watching and 73
Do any other radios have this feature that you know of?
Many of the Icom radios do. The 4100 has it as well. It is a good rig, but the screen is to small for my old eyes. I just got the ID52 handheld, and it has it as well. I think most of their radios that have DR mode have this feature. That's the deal maker for me... being able to toss an sd card in and import a list is super easy. Thanks for watching
@@K5ATA great. Thank you. I'll look into those.
Sadly, the link doesn't appear to work any longer - the website just returns an error trying to submit to download the repeater list.
Did you skip importing SD file?
Hey, when I hit the DR button it tells me “no repeater is found” and I followed all of your steps. Now what?
Did you figure it out? I'm having the same issue
Could you please re-do this video? The screen is hardly visible. Also, can you please be more deliberate when pressing buttons. You seem to start to push the buttons then stop half way through making it harder to follow.
Good info but delivery needs some work.
Let’s see one of your videos a-clown
