Yes, the LCD unit sits behind the touchscreen glass. If the LCD doesn’t have noticeable voids or “leaks”, a new digitizer will get you back up and running.
My ID5100 is not experiencing phantom presses but it has become dimmer and the contrast adjustment is not what it was as well as missing some of the border on the left side when I am in the MENU area. If you know, is that the LCD screen and not the digitizer?
Good and to the point video Louis. Thanks for posting!
You're welcome and thanks for watching!
So this is the front part of the touch and the back glass? I have an id5100 with broken digitizer glass but good screen.

@@LouisMcCarthy thanks for posting this, I got my digitizer replaced tonight after my radio has been out of commission for years.
@@Redsparrow12 Glad I could help! 😀

Yeah, most likely an LCD problem. You should be able to see some of the LCD connections in my video. Perhaps you just need to inspect those?
My ID5100 has been acting wonky, keeps changing functions. Is this digitizer the problem?
I see this is a fairly common complaint.
If you have "phantom" touches, yes this is a digitizer problem. Mine would keep changing the mode or randomly switch between VFO A/B, etc.
@@LouisMcCarthy I just ordered one today!
Where did you find the replacement screen?
I purchased direct from Icom
@@LouisMcCarthycan you please explain how to buy direct from icom? I don't see a option on the website. Thank you
@@elevatedsearchandrescue8034it’s been a while, but I think I had to email support or sales and they created the order.
