    I think that having canned food in your pantry is a great idea, because technically, you can even eat it without heating it, if need be. It may not be as tasty, but at least it's cooked. Also, there is liquid in it, so while not water, at least it doesn't require water to heat up and can provide some "water" storage as well.

    When i cook rice and leftovers i dehydrate it and that makes instant rice.

      That is a great idea. I will have to do that. I have a bunch of rice in my pantry and I love using instant rice so much faster.

    So glad you’re feeling better Ann! I love seeing your plans for future prepping. I’m also concerned about having enough put away on the shelves for times of power outages and hurricanes etc. I’m trying to use what’s in my freezer and not have too much incase of power outages during the hurricane season but I worry outages can happen anytime. One thing I would suggest to everyone, especially with the AT&T outage we had is to have a plan in place with your family members of where you would meet up if you could not get in touch with them, God forbid because of a disaster that is unforeseen. If phones aren’t working at least you can get your family safely together in one place. Having shelf stable food items is a definite must especially in the times we’re living in, always good to be prepared! Thanks for sharing! ❤❤

      It is really scary to realize that food prices are so high. You need to make sure that you have enough on hand just in case of an emergency for sure!

    Anything I buy in the store is in the plastic or cardboard.I put it in a jar and foodsave it, even my jello, ricr, grit, oatmeal, sugar, flour, cormeal and banana pudding mix?
    I put them all in a jar.And food safe, it right in the jar.you have plenty of space on your shelves.

      How do you seal your jars with the flour, rice? Or you don’t?

    I seem to be thinking the same way with changing my food storage lately. Thanks for sharing your ideas. I need more dehydrated foods such as broth and Worcestershire sauce. Plus it would take up much less space. Glad you’re better

    I’m glad to see you’re feeling better. This video was helpful for me” those that have ears to hear”. I think your plan to buy a few extras when at the store and stepping up your own canning such as your freezer items is a great idea. I have some meals in the jar like your vegetable soup that I added chicken to.
    The thing with AT&T was a good illustration of our need to be prepared. Have a great week.

    I can a lot of beef and chicken and pork instead of keeping it in my freezer canned food will last a long time longer than 18 months. I’ve eaten stuff that I’ve canned five years ago and it was perfectly fine. Just make sure that the seal is sealed and you’re good to go

    Hi. Finally able to warch/catch up on videos. I live in blizzard territory, so I grew up (and have continued) being prepared for long term stay-at-home and car-for-yourself event's. The last fewcyears haven't phased us. I just keep stocking my rotating pantry and we'd be fine for several months, up to a year. We'd miss fresh fruits and veggies, but because of arthritis complications, I'm no longer available to garden or can as much as I used to.

    Hi Ann! I found your channel through LeAnne at Mennonite Farmhouse. I’m a new subscriber and really excited to watch your videos! Love your stock up! I’ve been canning for only 2 years now. I’m still leary of doing chicken and meat. I’m sure my confidence will grow. Looking forward to your pie in the collaboration!

      I hope you do can meat. It is probably the easiest thing to can and the best thing in my opinion to can. I can make so many meals out of it in just a few minutes!

    I have several bags of rice, right now I have it in the freezer, it’s been in there for about a week, how long can I leave it in the freezer?

    • @AnnsSouthernhome
      @AnnsSouthernhome  Місяць тому

      @@sweezs4874 I would keep it about six months to a year in the freezer longer. If it’s in a different packaging if it’s in the plastic from the grocery store, it won’t last as long as if you put it in a food saver bag. I kept mine in some jars in the pantry, but they didn’t stay as fresh. They had an off smell to me
