- Hey everyone,
I want to share our pantry tour and the importance of having a well stocked pantry. There are so many issues right now with the economy, inflation, and global crises. Having a well stocked pantry can give you some peace knowing you can still feed your family in difficult times - whatever diffulties may come. I was sick filming this video and it took quite a bit of editing to make it look right so bear with me throughout it. Thanks for being here!!

This is quite possibly the most beautiful pantry I have ever seen.
Awe, thank you so much! That means a lot to me! It was a lot of work.😊
This pantry is the wealth I aspire to have. Food security is higher on my list than monetary ❤
For anyone just starting out, buy what you eat! Also take $5 a week to buy items to stock up on and definitely don't forget the spices. Depending on the store, $5 can buy a lot of extras. And rotate it out.
Yes! I do that too. I buy some extra things weekly.
I literally gasped when you opened your pantry door. Your set up is amazing!
I was surprised to hear that the freeze dryer raises electric bill that much. No one is talking about that part. We will be empty nesters this fall so one would be overkill for us at this point.
Thank you so much!! We were surprised when we received the bills on the months we've ran it. Our next bill, I will try to do a video with more detail on it. I agree. It is an important detail being left out that could be a make or break for people.
We are off grid and rely solely on solar with a backup propane generator. We can only use our freeze drier in the summer when we have abundant sun because otherwise we’d be paying so much in propane. So it only makes sense for us to freeze dry certain things otherwise it’s cost prohibitive.
I was going to say the same thing 💯
That's ridiculous. My freeze dryer runs every day and my power bill has never been a problem. Approximately $3 a batch. Keep it real.
.
@@k9chaos342 we all have different electric rates. I am in a coop and we are about .089 cents per kwh but many people have double or triple that.
Wow, that is good that you mention the electricity when running the freeze drier! No one has ever mentioned that before.... that is a lot of money!
Oh gosh, I have kitchen and pantry envy. Thanks for sharing
❤️
I've only recently started food preservation and backup food storage. It makes me feel good to feel prepared instead of scared. ❤
I agree! 😊
""My can that I pressure corned" Angela I swear you're my sister. 😂
😂 Trust me, the editing was pretty brutal on this one. My brains fried! 🤣
We totally need a bloopers video!!!
Put nuts in freezer. Can go rancid on shelf.
I love your shelves and organization! Good job!
Thank you so much!
@@rockymountainhomesteadwith8092I learned the hard way. Bought a big bag of walnuts and the oils turned them rancid.😢 Had to throw the whole bag away. What a waste.🤦🏻♀️
I absolutely love your pantry and the other spaces throughout your home kitchen where you have short term and long-term storage for food. The pantry that you redid is gorgeous can’t say enough about it.
I love stuff like that. . That’s why I paused the video sometimes and just stare in aww! I can sort it out in my head and get ideas from what you’ve done. Their ideas not copycats because I don’t have the same space you do..
Hope you get to feeling better soon. Certainly no fun being sick. Take care of yourself and we’ll see you when you get better.
Thank you very much! I appreciate you and your sweet comment. ❤️
@@rockymountainhomesteadwith8092 🥰 aww thanks
My best advice is only buy what you will actually eat. We learned this the hard way. I'm sure alot of people found this out also. Mac and cheese is a must. Not the powder kind. Variety of chips and crackers, all sorts of spices and sauces for tons of flavor, pasta, all our musts. We found out we don't use canned tomatoes, or canned beans except refried. That surprised us. Love your videos. Your pantry is great.
Thank you for showing your pantry. It gives all of us watching different ideas. Love your videos.
Thank you so much!!
Hi Angela, just watched your pantry tour and wow it looks awesome. Good job! Although I did notice that you had 2 cans of Crisco in your pantry. Please take some advice and smell it before using it, I don't know how long you've had it in your pantry, but it does spoil over time. I had some on my pantry shelf and had used it for popcorn and yea, popcorn had a funny smell and taste to it. So I opened up the lid of the crisco can and whew it was rancid. I didn't noticed it before I made the popcorn but I noticed the date of the can and yea it was well past the due date. Thanks for sharing your video. Love & hugs Laurie from Waterloo, Indiana.
Thank you so much! I have definitely noticed discoloring before with one in the back I forgot about. Thankfully I noticed so never got as far as consuming it. 😊
Beautiful storage! Be surento keep the temps low wherever you store longer term items. Great job!
Yay!!!! I've been waiting for your pantry tour video❤❤❤. Thanks so much! Everything looks absolutely amazing.
Thank you!! 😊❤️
The sweet tea story! 😂 I’m a Southern girl and I promise you, that has happened to the best of us. (It’s funny in hindsight, but not at the moment-especially for the person who takes the first “sip”!) Beautiful pantry!
Thank you so much! I agree. It's funnier looking back than it is in the moment 😂
I've been looking forward to this video, and it did not disappoint! Everything looks so organized and beautiful.
Awe, thank you so much!! ❤️
This past summer, I made my own ketchup for the first time. It doesn't have the same consistency as mass produced ketchup, but.......as long as I can keep growing my own tomatoes, i'll never go back to store bought ketchup. Oh my goodness? Homemade is the bomb!!!
When you pointed to the Iodized Salt - I laughed out loud and when hubby snuck a cup 😂😂😂😂
Oh it was SO funny. I seriously thought it was sugar and when he spit it out and asked me if it was a prank I was so confused. Then it hit me all at once - the unlabeled bucket, it not dissolving normally and the face he made drinking it!! Ooops ha ha
I was canning peaches and mixed up my unlabeled salt and sugar. Thankfully, I caught it before I canned it. I had to soak and rinse the peaches. I was able to save them and can them just fine.
My dad was staying with us and surprised us with French toast. He said I was lucky that he sniffed my unlabled spices because we almost got paprika instead of cinnamon.
My husband put sugar sprinkles in his dad's coffee instead of sugar. I now label. 😂
Your new pantry ahekves look amazing.
If you hate that label on the kale jar then try lemon essential oil. I've had great luck removing the sticky backing of labels off of jars with it. Also if you are worried something may fall off of the shelves I've seen people put a bungee cord across each shelf. Apparently it works great.
Thank you!!! 😊
I feel so bad and I am shocked your light bill is so high when you use your freeze dryer! I did not see significant increase over $30 a month when I use it regularly. Have you had someone look into this for you? Also, your pantry is so well organized, it is beautiful!
Thank you so much! Our electrician who works for my husband came out when he installed the dedicated 20 Amp circuit for the freeze dryer. He was also out recently for some other projects, but we didn't mention anything to him. We are going to go into the details on our next electric bill. I've heard people say they did not see much increase, and I have heard people say their bill to run theirs was higher than ours, so it'll be interesting to see the breakdown of the details. I think a lot may have to do with location and what type of energy peoples homes run off of. We will be doing a video on our situation soon!
We don't see a difference in ours. I run mine every weekend (4 times a month), definitely have it checked.
Great food storage -- where are all your empty canning jars, the canner, the big water bath pot, the crock pot, the cast iron, etc.??? Love seeing your organizational skills.
Thank you! I keep all of those things in our mechanical room. We have a good amount of space down there. The cast irons I have are hanging on the log wall in our dining room near the dinner table.
I just went and cleaned, restacked my Sam’s spices horizontally! Genius😃 Love your channel! I can only dream of such a pantry❤️
Awe, thank you so much! ❤️
You have really stocked up nicely for your family. Everything looks great & very well organized. Hopefully this will help you with your cooking. Thanks for sharing!❤
Thank you so much! 😊 🩷
Thank you for the video. Lots of good ideas and information. Hope you feel better soon.
Thank you so much! 🌻
So pretty!! But yet so practical!! I would definitely be interested in seeing your dehydrated vegetable mix ingredients as a video!
I really like the lay out of your pantry, it's very well organized and lots of space.
Thank you!
@@rockymountainhomesteadwith8092 Your very welcome!
This is truly labor of love! You guys did very well, you can be proud of yourself, so much work! 🫶🩷🤗
Thank you so much!!
Same hear! My husband did the same thing! He grabbed the salt canister-I didn’t mark it! He ran outside to spit it out and then dump the sweet -salty tea!
I too only use glass ..
True story I had some oaks -Road Oaks in a plastic tub and when I went to go get it and it was a brand new bag or box of oatmeal. It was all moldy so I threw it out and I’m using that plastic tub for garden fertilizer but I end up buying big mason jars the gallon ones or half quart half gallon and I just now because Glass is much better than the plastic. 🌱
I also have my first pressure canned glas of water. And I'm keeping it! It's a great reminder.
❤️
"the can that I pressure corned" Cracked me up!!! XD
Great inspo video. My husband is going to build a pantry for me this year since our little cabinet doesnt cut it for our family of 5
❤️
Oh, that’s lovely.
Wow!!!!!
That's an amazing pantry, 😮 8 kids? I had 2 and was going crazy. God bless your beautiful family family.
It absolutely awesome!!
Thank you so much!
Awesome pantry!! Feel better soon❤️
Thank you!! 😊
Amazing pantry, thank you for sharing
Thank you! 😊
Awesome job kiddo! I hope you get well soon 💖🤗✨🙏✨
Thank you 🤗
It's beautiful!
Thank you! 😊
First time seeing your channel! I absolutely love your beautiful pantry and how well you organized everything! I’m taking notes for when I have a house with a pantry and for now with just my kitchen cupboards!
Thanks so much and thank you for being here!!
Omg your pantry is goals! 😍 it looks amazing 🤩🙌🏽
Awe, Thank you so much!! 😊
You have a beautiful pantry, and with teenagers in the house all that food should last you about 3 weeks.😆Also, thanks for letting us know how much it costs to run the freeze dryer. I've been wondering about the cost for some time.
Thank you so much! It's sad but very accurate. I used to have a years worth of food.... not so much these days 😅 we will be doing a video next electric bill with more details on the freeze dryer. Nobody seems to share that detail I've noticed. Hopefully, it'll be helpful for others.
Hi, I just found your channel and I love it! I'm also a homesteader living in Colorado with my family.❤
Welcome to the channel! We live in such a beautiful state! 😊
Beautiful pantry, you are prepared! Feel better soon🙏. I haven't the room you do, in apartment. Yet Im creative in storage 🙃 .
Thank you!! 🩷
My second video of yours loving your channel so far ❤❤
Thank you so much, and welcome!!
😊🩷
Love ❤ the pantry please do a freezer video 😀
Great video. Hope you feel better.
Thank you!
Being that I used to have it when I was little I'm not a fan of spam either however the 25% less salt is not bad. Definitely something I would keep in the pantry along with other canned/ potted meats in my opinion
I added salt to my tea once as well. My husband had the same reaction as your husband did. I quickly made sure my salt bucket was properly labeled. I never made that mistake again!
I'm glad it wasn't just me 😅
Off the subject but that’s a beautiful kitchen you have. I can’t wait to update my kitchen when I can afford it. I spend so much time in my kitchen so it’s going to be great when that time comes! Your house and pantry are just lovely.
Thank you so much!! We put a lot of work into building that area. I live in my kitchen all day, too! 😊
Wow thats super impressive!!! Lots of work to fill those shelves! Do you have measurements for veggies & seasonings, for your soup mix? That's a great idea!!
Your pantry is beautiful! As far as the cost of your freeze dryer electric bill is really high. I have two mediums (wish I would of just got the large) and do really long runs and really don't notice much of a difference. My daughter has the large and has never said anything about her electric bill. I love your channel; my daughter gifted me with 5 grandkids. I do monthly pickups from Azure Standard and you gave me great ideas for the kids, I love the organic snacks they have. My pick up is tomorrow so I'll be throwing in some (all frozen and chopped) onions, celery and mixed peppers in the freeze dryers. God Bless!
Enjoyed your pantry tour ❤️
Thank you!!
I'm still watching and excited! But, woah! Every other review of freeze driers has said that running it was cost effective. Have you heard those reviews, too?
Thank you for still watching! We're going to do a video on the cost with our next electric bill and go over more details. But running it for a week did increase our bill $200 for sure!!
@rockymountainhomesteadwith8092 awesome, thank you! Looking forward to the next video 😊🥂
Thank you for your honesty! I would go completely crazy the first few weeks, so it’s great to know the huge jump in utility costs to expect.
Wow! I hooked mine to a watt meter, and it costs me less than $3 a load. I haven’t seen any noticeable increases in my electric bill when running mine. Perhaps have a conversation with your power company.
Great job on your organization! I have a good sized pantry and it’s fairly stocked, not like yours since there’s only 3 of us, but enough to keep us for a while. I don’t cook as much as I should though. But I’m 70. Not as much energy as you have unfortunately! I do make homemade vanilla.
I can only imagine getting a huge gulp of salty tea! I have heard of people getting salt and sugar mixed up when making a cake though! Ick!
Roast in a jar is the best!
Chuck roast, Boston butt pork, leg of lamb.
Trim fat, cut chunks to fit thru jar mouth. Dry seasonings [salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, steak seasonings, etc] on each side. Sizzling hot pan, SEAR every side.
1" broth in 🫙, stuff 🫙, push it down! Extra room?, add some liquid-makes great gravy starter. Process.
Just mom and me, a qt will give us 4 skimpy servings of meat, because I do add more liquid rather than packing it in. (Just bought a saurkraut pounder.)
Ground beef, I add a jar of black beans and lentils on taco night, plain lentils for Italian or shepherds pie. 😊
Hawaiian-style Chinese.
SPAM, cube it and sear it; drained can of 🍍 chunks, cut smaller, sear in same pan.
Stir fry veges, fried rice. Sweet&sour sauce.
Beautiful pantry. I laughed at your story about the sweet tea with salt. I remember about 45 years ago, I made a Mississippi Mud Cake with mom’s canning salt that for some reason she had stored in the Sugar canister. It was a huge disappointment. 😂
Oh, I would have been disappointed, too. Especially if I was expecting to eat cake! 😋 Those stories are always funny to look back on, but not in the moment 😂
@@rockymountainhomesteadwith8092 it was a huge disappointment for sure!
Your pantry is beautiful ❤
Thank you so much! 🩷
Wow! Amazing pantries. Thanks for sharing storage tips. How do you fully reconstitute dehydrated celery?
Thank you! I love to throw the celery into soups, stews, and roasts. I sometimes sautee it for homemade stuffing with the onions and butter in the stove. The hot liquid reconstitutes the celery on its own. If you want to reconstitute it on its own, I just put it in a bowl of boiling water for 10-15 min. 😊
Pantry looks awesome. I might have missed it but what's the latest on your health stuff. Still waiting on testing?
What a pantry!
Thank you! 😊
Hope you feel better soon
Thank you! ❤️
“Enough pickles until jesus came back” 😂😂😂😂
Oh the sweet tea story. 🤣
Keep all your food...this is a crazy election year!
Yes! Hubby watched the video and said the same thing. Then, as soon as I got done editing the video, the breaking news came out saying we're on the brink of an all-out war. I was like, well, we may not eat those foods often, but we can find ways to incorporate them into our meals. 😅
Exactly! Hawaiian pineapple rice with spam is one recipe I have seen, if that helps!
Are the jars of dehydrated citrus vacuumed sealed? Nice pantry! Thanks for taking us on a tour
The freeze-dried ones are vacuum sealed. The dehydrated ones are just an air-tight seal with a lid because I know that we will use it within a couple of months. Hope that helps! 😊
Love your pantry! What kind of dehydrator do you have? I am looking into one and I want to make sure I get a good one. Thanks!
Thank you so much! This is the make/model I have. It's actually on a really good sale right now. I bought mine full price. amzn.to/4ayqvVx
your pantry looks amazing and well organized! where do you buy that Rocky Mountain olive oil in Fort Collins? Also - do you prepare frozen meals for back-up?
Thank you!! The store is actually called Rocky Mountain Olive Oil. It's on N College Ave a couple doors down from The Still Whiskey Steaks. They have samples you can try and hundreds of different flavors. I haven't done freezer meals for a while. When I make some room in the freezer, I'll be doing some and will do a video on our favorite meals! 🩷
@@rockymountainhomesteadwith8092 thank you, I'll go check the store, I like flavored oils!
Oh my I did the same thing with salt. When I was young I made chocolate chip cookies. My mom had bulk items in bags. I took what I thought was sugar in an unlabeled bag which was salt. I proceeded to have my neighbor try one of my cookies before I did. Oh how embarrassing.
💜💜💜💜💜
What items do you like dehydrated better than FD? What’s you’re favorite things you’ve FD so far? Hope you’re feeling better!
How do you and others like the Alfredo mix? I’m not a fan of knorrs Alfredo mix so just wondering how the azure standard one compares?
I'm not a fan of Alfredo sauce in general personally, but this is the only kind I will eat. My family enjoys it a lot, and it's quick to make up. Three of my kids can make it themselves it's so easy! We always keep some on hand.
Question: where is the cheapest place to buy the one gallon glass jars?
WHERE DID YOU GET THE LARGE JARS WITH THE GOLD LIDS SND THE WIDE SQUATTY JARS THST YOU HAVE DEHYDRATED ONIONS IN. Looks like squatty quart+ jar
How did you learn to do all that you do? You are amazing!!!
Thank you! I always admired people who knew these skills and lived a more self-sufficient lifestyle. I was never taught any of these skills, so I've spent much time over the past few years learning them. I truly find joy in them! ❤️
I watch our electric bill closely, we have not had much increase do to running our freeze dryer. Ours run daily. You may want to attach a meter to test usage.
There's no need to. There were no other changes to the way we do things other than running the freeze dryer. We run multiple washers and dryers every day, multiple fridges and freezers and we are home mostly all day so we run more things than most homes and we've never had high electric bills. My husband and I plan to do a video sharing more details on the actual costs for us running a freeze dryer with our next bill.
Not sure the size you have but running it daily... I can't imagine it not increasing your electric bill significantly!! We have the large size freeze dryer, which required it's own 20 Amp circuit because it draws up to 16 amps per hour(more than 1500 watts)
@@rockymountainhomesteadwith8092 Ours is a medium, with the 5 tray addition, it also has a dedicated 20 amp circuit. 🤔
I LOVE your pantry, doll! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ You did a great job! I beg you NOT to eat ramen noodles when you do not feel well. That is the worst pasta you could ever put into your body. You would actually heal drinking your chicken broth.
Thank you so much! Yes, I agree with you.
Just found your channel. Your canned potatoes look amazing. Do you have a video on how you do them? My are always so starchy.
Thank you so much! I just did a video on them ua-cam.com/video/i0csHuE-TOQ/v-deo.htmlsi=zgHxL3FxUvcg415-
I have pantry envy. I just have a metal shelf in my dining room.😢
Where do you get those large jars
Hello! Beautiful pantry 😍 what size is the pasta jars 🫙 and were you get them from
I buy them from Azure Standard, but they have ones identical on Amazon amzn.to/3Q7uwba
Hope that helps!
The pasta jars are 1 gallon
I have the large freeze dryer and my electric bill barely rises when I use it. Is yours the extra large one?
Ours is the large one. I'm almost positive. It needed the dedicated 20-amp circuit. We're going to be looking at the details on our next electric bill and running it by the electrician my husband uses.
Is this for real??? 😮 😮
The canned meats could be fed to your dogs.
When you can your meats, are they cooked or raw?
You could do a giveaway to your viewers for those food items you do not want! That would be fun! Then the winner could pay the shipping. Just a thought. :)
Can you link your jars? I am slowly transitioning from plastic to glass but I’m not finding affordable glass containers with good lids/tops.
I get mine through Azure Standard.

I found identical ones on Amazon as well amzn.to/3Q7uwba
I live in the Colorado Rocky Mountains at 8600.' I'm afraid to pressure can because of my altitude. What altitude are you at?
We are about 7600ish
@@rockymountainhomesteadwith8092 Thanks! I'll be following along!
Beautiful Pantry. Why do you have a code lock on the door to your pantry?
Thank you! We have little boys who like to climb things and have already had some close calls from them trying to reach things. With most things stored in glass, it's just not a risk I want to take of something falling on them or breaking and getting stepped on.
Oh wow😮 I had no idea. Good call all 4:04 that glass is not a good 4:10 playground for any children. Beautiful Pantry. 3:49
Can I ask where you buy your big jars and lids at?
I buy them from Azure Standard, but they have ones identical on Amazon amzn.to/3Q7uwba
Hope that helps!
I'm suprised about the statement of such an increased electric bill with freeze dryer. The few channels I've watched stated not much change in theirs.
I was also taken back because I have one and my bill doesn’t fluctuate much. It’s also good to note that most of us who use a freeze dryer also freeze things first in the freezer to speed the process!
Something is wrong with the power bill amount. I have 2 large machines that have not shut down at all and my bill went up 40.00 a month. I would call someone about that.
I would put those walnuts in the freezer
Can you show us how to dehydrate hash browns please
Yes, I can do that!
Do you seal those 1 gallon glass jars
The big one gallon jars are just screw on lids for an airtight seal. The half gallon jars that the freeze-dried things are in are vacuum sealed.
Where do you get all your jars
A lot of them I get from Azure Standard. Amazon carries ones that are identical as well.
Gallon amzn.to/3xLAAzT
Half-gallon amzn.to/3W27VR9
What's the texture and flavor of pressured canned ground beef?
I haven’t done beef, but ground sausage tastes and smells like dog food
I've canned ground beef for years. The texture is slightly more tender, I would say. The taste is fine. I've never eaten it plain, but I don't notice anything off with it. I use it in enchiladas, tacos, Korean beef rice bowls, and baked ziti, just to name a few.
