Hello everyone, and happy Cirno day! (It is 9 September in the Netherlands)
I wanted to arrange Cirno's theme in a kind of "what if" style, i was curious what it could sound like if it was never composed for Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, but for the bonus CD's that came with the Touhou Sangetsusei official manga series.
I know it is not 100% fitting for Sangetsusei style, because i used some elements of my own style that i liked to add, like the glockenspiel in the beginning that plays the melody of Like the Brilliance of Fairies from Eastern and Little Nature Deity (fun fact: did you know that all 3 of the fairies of light had an original theme and a slightly redone version in future CD's? You can notice it especially in the mixing/mastering quality and the drums)
But yes, more about this arrange:
I tried emulating some of the mixing/mastering of the earlier Sangetsusei CD's as opposed to the later ones (because i like them more lol)
For instruments, i just picked instruments i know i could identify (i could not identify the cool magical sounding background instrument in Like the Brilliance of Fairies sadly, if i did, i would have used that!)
But yes, i am quite happy with the instruments here regardless, i particulairly like the saw, i think Sunny Rutile Flection used Hybrid Saw on the SD-90, but i used Flanging Saw for this song because it doesn't sound that different, but the small difference it has was more fitting for the composition of this song i think, it just feels slightly better to me in this case.
I used a lot of SD-90 instruments again in this song, just like old times, i also added Brightness Star in the background for fun.
Most of my new songs don't really make much use of the SD-90 as much as before, but going back to familiar grounds is very fun sometimes, especially when you know what you're doing.
I wanted the song to feel slightly more original than like an arrange, but it is composed with Cirno in mind.
Ah, a bit more about the composition:
This song is mainly based on Sunny Rutile Flection, Like the Brilliance of Fairies, Can't Sleep Because It's Nighttime, and Beloved Tomboyish Daughter, but i wanted it to feel like something new, so i tried to make the main melody quite exciting.
I also had a lot of fun with key changes here, i wanted it to sound like the crazy key changes ZUN used to do.
I also hid some easter eggs here and there, you might recognise them, they are Theme of Eastern Story and ...that song you get recommended a lot.
I also drew Cirno for this video, that was quite fun as well!

Omg, this is really REALLY fitting with the fairies's first individual themes, holy cow! You nailed the extra cool and melodic sounds of those songs to a TEE!😍 best cirno theme rendition i've heard~

I found it relatively odd that there wasn't a Beloved Tomboyish Girl arrange in fairy wars normally, but yEs, one of my favorite bits of Cirno day is hearing the tons of arranges that get posted by people, and this one seems to already take the cake
I like the slightly slower tempo to really bring out some syncopations, especially in that funky bassline! I also really liked the trading melodies at 2:51, very cool.
