So wanted to go to the Secretariat Festival this year and see this film. Still brings tears to my eyes to watch the 1973 Belmont. There will never be another horse like Secretariat nor an owner like Penny! Best Wishes!!

Dear John: I enjoyed the Premiere in Lexington, very much. Thank you for making the film about your Mother and Her Big Red Horse, Secretariat !! Your Mother is looking good, like always. I'm Blessed to have met her and will always treasure those moments. She has inspired me since I was 15 years old in 1973, and I still have the Horse Bug after all these years :)

Cindy, Thanks for viewing the trailer and for leaving a comment. In answer to your questions: 1) yes, it is a movie as well as a trailer. It is a one-hour documentary on Penny Chenery's life. 2) Riva Ridge does appear in the documentary (and in the trailer), but the main focus is not either horse, but rather Penny's reflections on her life, from her childhood tot he present-day. The film will premiere in Lexington Friday, September 19, and will be more widely available soon. John Tweedy
Michael Rodriguez: Why don't you come back when you brush up on your cognitive skills, which you are sincerely lacking! I would wager that you never even saw the movie, or did you buy the DVD? All you saw was that it was about Secretariat and his owner, so without seeing it, you already hate it! I am embarrassed that you belong to the human race! Secretariat had more manners!

GREATEST HORSE OF all~time !!! ...*.I was 10 in 1973 and remember my wonderful Nanu Joe telling me after we watched The UNREAL " Belmont "....he told us grandkids.." You will NEVER in your life see a horse like this again !! " ...I am 55 now and , well you get it ! BEAUTIFUL was THE GREAT " SECRETARIAT "

Cindy and Lorraine, the film includes this information because this was an important relationship for Penny, and it was essential to the story when told with this level of honesty. Penny anticipated that some might judge her for this new information, but she decided that she wanted to tell the full story, honestly, despite that risk. As the filmmaker, I suggest that you see the movie when it becomes more widely available and judge for yourself on that basis -- not simply on a newspaper report.

Secretariat will go down as the best horse to ever live and breathe. No other horse has proved to be on the same level as him. If people are upset about another great horse not getting the same attention then that's there problem. The best always gets the recognition like both MJs. But honestly I see a lot of other great horses including affirmed and I love his docs and articles as well. Great horse just like slew. Just doesn't match up to big red.

Michael Rodriguez: You are overrated! Seriously, do you need all the positive attention that Secretariat got and still gets, because he was an exceptional equine athlete. How many trophies did you win in your life? Until you can come up with some that are believable, please keep the negativity that you have towards Secretariat to yourself! Oh, when does the movie about your life come out? I'm sure that all Secretariat fans would love to see it!

The horse is Legendary, the owner a strong woman well before it was fashionable to be so and not be labeled a Beotchhhh by many would love to obtain a copy of her version not the Disney prettied up version it's an amazing story
+Terri Storms Actually, I remember that when she was on one of the morning shows during the TC campaign, she was asked about her relationship with racing fans, how she was perceived, and said, somewhat (much??) horrifying the interviewer, (paraphrasing) "Oh, I get letters from people saying 'You're nothing but a rich bitch.'" She's a real pistol!
Secretariat's great-great-great grandson does the same thing for the cameras as his old man: his ears perk up. :)

I am an avid secretariat fan...im not rude and not nasty, and yes man o war was a great horse and yes he deserves to be remembered, but secretariat was greater his time in the Belmont shows as does the fact that after 40 years all 3 of his records still stand in the triple crown, not being rude or nasty just stating facts, however there was a horse that was the equal/better of both horses, her name was kincsem and she was incredible, her imposts were unbelievable, in her 5 years, she never lost

Penny and big red was a mágical time.
love big red 2! for me, the greatest ever, but, people may want to check out kincsem, the Hungarian horse (from English parents) who lived over 100 years ago...there has been no horse to come close to equaling what she did, she carried up to 150lb and raced a couple of miles doing it..she beat the girls and the boys, hands down every time...in retrospect she probably deserves the title of the greatest ever, but as I said, for me it will always be secretariat!

Sorry but is simple as this, Secretariat ran 224 Man O War ran 228 4/5 in a 1 1/2 on a resufaced belmont track and only carried 118 while Sec carried 126 and ran out of gas. Man O War beat 14 horses his last ten races. The only good horse Man O war beat was a busted down Sir Barton.
Man o War was a great horse, however, Secretariat was greater! The Triple Crown is the Holy Grail of horse racing. The stats prove that he was the best! No, he didn't win every race. However, many great horses don't! When Secretariat lost, it was because he was sick. The Triple Crown races G1 horses. These are horses that are more or less equal. The fact that Ron Turcotte hand rode him, never had to crack the whip! Secretariat didn't even break a sweat. Sorry I can't say that about Sham! Penny Chenery was the best owner for this horse. In a time when women were supposed to keep there opinions to themselves, Penny let them know what kind of horse Secretariat was! Team Secretariat was the best! I honestly don't know how Ron Turcotte stayed on him at the Belmont. Secretariat was going approximately 45 MPH! I truly enjoyed this clip:)

I'd like to say a few things. First, to DrVivianBell, you Secretariat fans can dish it out but you can't take it can you???? And, for Karton Which (last name applies doesn't it), I think Sec holds records for 40 years since we have NOT had really truly great horses like who came after Man O' War, no wonder Man O' War is still the greatest and #1 in all polls. After him came EIGHT Triple Crown winners, horses that broke records, carried weight, won 21 races at 3 alone, and the list goes on. I understand where Cindy is coming from, after Sec who? Mine that Bird, Super Saver, horses before Sec won 4 races in 5 weeks, after Sec, we can't even hardly get a horse to win 2 of the 3 TC races, so, get over it nasty Sec fans. You go to Man O' War vides and spew venom, I guess what goes around comes around.
I'm so tired of people who negate what Secretariat was and his accomplishments. Do you realize Twice A Prince, the horse that came in second in the Belmont had a time that wld've beaten 14 of the last 19 Belmont Stakes winners?? Don't denegrate Secretariat bec the greed of the racing world, after what he did in 1973, started breeding for speed by breeding for MORE muscle and LESS bone, thus reducing strength and stamina. Sec got his speed fm Bold Ruler his sire and the strength and stamina fm his maternal grandsire, Princequillo. The bad breeding practices are why so many fractures, breaks and inability to hardly win 2 let alone 3 of the TC races, that last 1/4 mile of the Belmont track being called "Big Sandy." ALL Secretariat fans aren't like what I'm guessing are younger and mostly male, who to a great degree don't know what they're talking about. It's the almighty pissing contest, how long, how fast, how many etc. You must know that one of the votes in the infamous Blood Horse panel put Secretariat LAST, as Bill Nack says, thereby scewing the results. Nack was on the panel. I think Man O' War was magnificent, and comparisons 50 yrs later fm 1920 to 1973 may not be that wise. Do you also realize when Sec hit the 1 3/8 mi point in his Belmont, his time was 2:11 1/5, THREE sec faster than Mano's world record time in same race, which was only 1 3/8 at that time. Time for Belmont changed 2 or 3 times and was finally set at 1 1/2 miles in mid 1920's I think. google secretariat angelfire jazz nut bush and at least you'd have to say one is as great as the other.
