I'm not even interested in horse racing, but have always been fascinated by Secretariat. When there is a once in a century talent, it's impossible not to be awed by it. Even a casual observer like me can appreciate the beauty of his performances.

Secretariat "Big Red" a beautiful, amazing, great horse, a legend won the triple crown in 1973. A phenonenal race horse. Watched his life documentary, and his movie of his races, loved this movie. Wish UA-cam would post the movie "Secretariat". That would be great to be able to watch this fantastic horse story again. Such a historic story of a magnificent horse. R.I.P. SECRETARIAT ....

My 4 young daughters, and I, visited Secretariat twice in the mid 80's. No photographs, or video, could never show what an amazing, magnificent, horse he was. They even put my youngest daughter on his back. She was then 3 years old, and at 43, she still remembers that today.

It's fun to watch him run chill initially, then he turns on the afterburners and leaves everyone waaaay behind. What a beautiful being he was.

Secretariat... (Big Red), magnificent, amazing horse, loved to run. Won the triple Crown and broke racing time records. Beautiful horse, posed for the camera
and loved to have his picture taken. Secretariat was a champion, he was one of a kind. No horse could beat him in 1973. He was retired to stud after his race in Woodbine, Canada which he won in October 1973. So very sad when Secretariat passed away in 1989 at the Age of 19. There will never be another Secretariat he was known as the people's horse.

    (Edited)
This race was really quite the undertaking for Secretariat: just his 2nd time on Turf, against mostly older** horses, in miserable sleeting weather, and - MOST significantly - the distance was 1 mile & 5/8. Which was 1/8 of a mile longer than the Belmont Stakes.
So, in the last race of his life, he ran the greatest distance of his life. On a surface still new to him. In dicey conditions. And he managed to win. Decisively!! What a perfect finish to his career. WHAT A HORSE! ❤🥳🌟🌈We’ll never forget you, Big Red. Thank you for all of the joy your Memory continues to bring.
**Of his 10 competitors, two were also Age 3 & the rest ranged between 4-6. Kennedy Road, Canada’s #1 Horse, was 5. Among the 6-yr-olds was Triangular, trained by “Giant Killer” Allen Jerkens, who had defeated Secretariat 2x following his Triple Crown win (with other horses).

I was at Belmont in June of 73 when he went into the far turn running like a "tremendous machine". The Sham fans were out in mass to root him home. They had Puerto Rican Steel Bands there and the place was pulsating with anticipation. The movie shows a battle in the backstretch but that was for effect. In fact. Secretariat disposed of Sham early in the duel down the backstretch. I can still remember Turcotte looking over at the teletimer board to see what the fractions were as he roared down the final 1/8th mile. On that day there was no horse born or would be born that could have beaten Big Red.

The most important person, bar none, to the great Secretariat was Eddy Sweat! That man was like a father ,mother ,brother ,sister ,and all the rest to Big Red ! Eddie was at the horses side almost all the time . Grooming him ,feeding him ,etc. he knew the horse better than anyone .Eddy knew his every mood, what made him happy ,and always did what was best for the love of his life, Secretariat !

Secretariat was the greatest horse to win the Triple Crown. He was enormous and lightening fast. His intelligence was amazing as well. He was like a big, playful kid. RIP Big Red. 💔 He is referred to as a horsemen’s dream, but he was owned by a very wise woman and her father’s secretary. A once in a lifetime thourobred.

Secretariat was phenomenal but in recent times my favorite is Afleet Alex who should have been a triple crown winner.. He got caught in traffic in the derby, was practically knocked off his feet in the Preakness and regained his feet with his ears pinned to win anyway (the interference was way greater than that by the horse who was disqualified a couple years ago). His win in the Belmont was pretty darn impressive.
Alex was a little guy but his intelligence was obvious… calm and collected before and after the race.
