Honourable mention to Raft - still very enjoyable in 2022. Also if anyone is looking for a more relaxing survival experience then I'd highly recommend Len's Island. And as for the future, I have very high hopes for Nightingale...
Derelicts looks so cool. It looks like a small development team, like just a couple people, played The Forest, Dying Light, Fallout 4, Rust, Conan Exiles, No Man's Sky, etc., and just added everything cool from those games into their own game. Like, they played Fallout 4 and met Dogmeat and said "I need that dog in my game!" And then played Dying Light and said "I need that grappling hook in my game!" And then played The Forest and said "I need that tarp crafting table in my game!" Etc. It's not a bad thing. It's awesome. Imagine a game combining the best and most fun systems and mechanics from all those games. That's the vibe I get watching this footage. I really wanna play this game!
Hello Nick! I'm Romain, the developer of Derelicts. :) I'm solo developing the game and what you described is exactly it! Haha! You should play the games before calling them the best. It's the only reason to click the video. Dysterra is trash. Arid is proper. No comment on the rest of your weird roundup.
You forgot 7 days to die, Empyrion, Green Hell, Mist Survival, and Scum. Empyrion has probably the best base building i have seen in any game, and you can even build your own space ships, or download blueprints from a huge list of bases and ships that others have made. It also had a big update about a week ago, which made it better than ever.
Have you looked into Meta Island as well? it's an upcoming multiplayer game running on ue5 and would be later on available on steam, hope you might give it a look soon!
Many of these were meh. "worth a try because they are free" or "have potential because they are in earlier access"? Weird reasoning. At exactly 4:43 you're saying "pretty realistic and grungy artsyle" while showing rocks that are so low poly its just a bunch of triangles. The only half decent game in here is Vrising and it's not even #1. Your #1 game is some game thats not even out yet. The industry is f'ed if this is how we think.
i think V rising is cool but after the devs (Stunlock Studios) absolutley fucked Battlerite, by halting development to make a moba battle royale, and then give up completely on Battlerite... I cant support them
Sorry, but how can you choose an unrealased game as "best survival game"? Its like saying Battlefield 2042 is the best shootergame in 2022, before it came out.
You've most likely played Subnautica and Subnautica Below Zero before but if you havent, then u definitely should give them a try. They might be the best survival games I've ever played so far
Not to be a Grinch or anything but did you really make the first one the best one when its not even released and it has a solo developer? My experience with very small developer teams have been very bad. Most of the time they don't complete there work because of lack of resources coming in and many don't buy there games because selling a game requires lots of advertising. Surely there is a better game out there that doesn't have a solo developer!
Wait so this dude didn’t actually play the games, but still feels confident to call them the “best survival games” of the year in his clickbaity title? Curious!
Holy crap, you've proven why you should spend more than three days researching anything. What a list of unplayable or garbage games. What were you thinking?
Dysmantle is a fantastic game, but not really a survival game in the same vein as the others on this list. Really more a hack’n’slash with a lot of environmental, well, dismantlement.
Man green hell would have been a great game to add to this video or you could add a tier list for top 5 HARDEST survival/open world games it is really good and has great and infuriating mechanics but it doesn't make the game too hard that you dont want to play. its addicting to play and i would love if you added it in a video or just looked at it.
its a fun game with realism, but what killed it for me was the rates at which everything depletes. Kinda kills the immersion for me eating and drinking every 5 minutes. Plus multiplayer needs some work. Movements are constantly laggy and look horrible. Still one of the best survival games I have played
so only steams games featured? thats disappointing your missing out on a fair few games that blow this list out of the water there are more places to find great games than just steam
This may sound off coming out of me but I still wish for a dinosaur survival game, except the dinos are acting as actual animals and all can be potentially befriended. Yes there is Ark but Ark is multiplayer first and foremost that came out when rust was popular. I was more thinking a more single player focus similar to akin to Far cry primal, just numerous options from weapons that would sort of exist in the stone age to early iron age and with a combination with environmental survival from Long dark where you can find or make gear to help protect you from the elements and wilds. With equipment that does a bit of both.
It's important to note that not all of these are available outside of Steam (PC)!
Are there any games I missed? Let me know and I might do a follow up video :)
A great survival Game is Ark although quite pricey you can spend ages with your friends or alone fighting giant dinos or building awesome bases!

I had only heard of one of these somehow, but added them all to wishlist, following, or for two cases, to library. Thank you!
i think V rising is cool but after the devs (Stunlock Studios) absolutley fucked Battlerite, by halting development to make a moba battle royale, and then give up completely on Battlerite...
Yes. One of my favorite games ever.
DUD, that game IS YEARS OLD AND PPL ALREADY PUT IT IN LIKE F'N 1 MILLION VIDEOS JESUS CHRIST
Maybe I'm wrong, but I get the feeling that you didn't actually play all of these games that you're claiming are the best of 2022.
Derelicts looks very promising. we'll see.
He has help from others when it comes to art etc. It's just admirable to watch the progress.
@@RyeGamesOfficial I see yeah it is admirable. =)
£15.49 not cheap?! 😂🤣🤣🤣 I like this guy, he cracks me up! We got games selling for £70.00 right now. 😂
DUDE GREEN HELL IS YEARS OLD AND PPL ALREADY PUT IT IN LIKE F'N 1 MILLION VIDEOS JESUS CHRIST
There is also Icarus how is realy good and ECO
It got me laid with the hottest bar destoryin lip poppin turn belt peakin money grabbin tea throwin purse eatin woman's cat. :3
I'm not sure ive ever played a survival crafting game that wasn't early access, unless you count minecraft.
Never seen sunburn in a game? Literally the month following v rising. Do you even play video games!
if you want a real survival game just get project zomboid shocked this game isn't on this list
Atta-comma is how you pronounce it. The Atacama Desert is in Chile.
so only steams games featured? thats disappointing your missing out on a fair few games that blow this list out of the water there are more places to find great games than just steam
minecraft era, ffs... they killed game industry and games become 1990 style
How is 20$ for a game not cheap? It's cheaper than a skin in some games
Theres a game called SCUM, it will soon have a huge update with a lot more to do, even now its awesome to play
Great vid, just gonna put it out there that XERA is the worst game I've ever played and has a horrible community based off of my experience.
Finely a non brain dead guy who shows hidden gems instead of the most popular and that every one knows about
love this video, I've now got new games to play while I wait for raft chapter 3 :)
I personally think dysmantle is more souls like not survival
Online + mmo + survival = offline raiding....those devs can suck it.
i bet you never played vrising cuz you said the base building is not so customizable lmao
avoid xera pvp if you dont wanna deal with chinese hackers
im not a fan of vampires but V rising is actually really fun. wish there was a release date D:
about xera:
you are the reason my mini clan cant bild a base after 2 days after wipe day
Never seen sunburn in a survival game before? ... Hmmm...
gone upstate is still the same shit and the devs just gave up on it to work on a sequel lol
Not gonna sub but ONLY because I can’t be bringing that average down
There is a reason why so few people play these games. In most cases they're shit.
