  • Battlestar Galactica S3E04 Exodus Pt.2 clips set to the track "Storming New Caprica" by Bear McCreary. Music doesn't completely match that of show because of variations in notes and editing. I was getting tired of all the clips with rock, techno, and god forbid rap covering this part of the episode so I made my own using THE ORIGINAL SCORE. I didn't use the original track to give it all a nicer flow and copyright reasons ;P

      One thing I always wondered is what would it be like if the Galactica jumped INTO the mass of oncoming Cylon fighters? Would that sudden appearance of mass and twisting of space shred the incoming, Or would they suddenly splat against the hull like so many bugs on a semi windshield? Either way - be a helluva spectacle.

    And then at 04:45 my faith in Ronald Moore was restored, when I saw the Battlestar Pegasus come storming in all guns blazing. (Absolutely fantastic entrance too. Real hardcore. And the music was just perfect.)

When Galactica is falling out of the sky and goes FTL right before impact, man that is some great stuff right there and then there's Pegasus coming out of the shadows to save the day and give her life for Galactica and the colonists, it just doesn't get any better or more dramatic than that. Unpopular opinion: I liked this show better than The Wire and I LOVED The Wire (and Babylon 5).
    Binge watched BSG with my brother from late 2008-summer 2009 and I've been ruined for all other media. Its been 7 years since it ended and it's probably the most powerful story I've ever watched and I include film in that and I've (supposedly so they say) good taste. It did the epic and intimate with equal craft and its an honest to god life changing (if you let it) study on what it means to be alive and human nature and how best to respond to the trials life throws at us and how we all are striving to get/stake out a small measure of peace.
    Well done Ron Moore, David Eick and company, you magnificent supersonic bastards.

    Easily the best SciFi series of the last 20 years, and we could debate its place in the wider timeframe for a very long time I suspect. And unlike much of the other stuff, it wasn't just about the battles and the FX, although this clip proves they got it so very right in that respect. No, it was the fact that you got wrapped up in the characters, and that they were given dialogue that made sense, in situations that made sense. Remember when Petty Officer Dualla had what looked like a nice date with Apollo, all smiles and happy, then she just went up to her locker, pulled out her sidearm and blew her own brains out? You wouldn't get *that* in Star Trek or Stargate. BSG was the reason I finally upgraded to a good Blu Ray player and got rid of the DVD machine- I bought the full & complete box set and it really does make a difference, so much better in picture and sound than the broadcast version.
    I just wish Ronald D. Moore had been given a proper crack at expanding the universe; "Caprica" was not, I think, what he originally intended, it plays and feels like two separate shows stuck together, and he-sort of- confirms that in the disc extras. "Blood and Chrome", I thought was a great pilot, and if they had kept that standard up, or better, then it would have been really good. But, we live in the era of the number crunchers, the beancounters, the people with no vision, and it's sad.

    • @sonofcy
      @sonofcy 9 років тому +1

      ***** The really tragic thing for me was that BSG revealed some fine junior actors amongst its extensive ensemble. They plus the main stars got to stretch themselves with meaty characters and dialogue. Instead of being treated like walking talking props as they so very often are by main studio productions. There is little about now to give them that kind of freedom. The only one I can think of at the moment is "Outlander", yet another Ron production.

    • @Toolpusher
      @Toolpusher 9 років тому

      sonofcy I haven't seen Outlander, although it's set in, and much of it is made here in Scotland. Ronald D. Moore's bearing on the project would impose a certain level of quality though, right from the start. :)

    • @sonofcy
      @sonofcy 9 років тому +1

      It is not a book I would read - heavily liked by women though, most of its fans are hardcore - but again the ensemble is large, excellent and you can see that they are enjoying it. The performances are some of the finest I've seen since BSG and some of the episodes truly are brutal. Much more so than BSG. Again McCreary shines with the musical score. If you like BSG, there is a good chance you will like Outlander. However to watch it in the UK you will have to watch it on Amazon Prime or take the "Avon" route.

    The more I think about it, the jump into the atmosphere makes me think of the Apollo program and here's why. Only Humans could get away with some effed up stunt like that. If people really knew how primitive the Apollo spacecraft were, they'd understand. I say this jokingly, but that is why no hostile aliens have invaded Earth. You do not screw around with people crazy enough to make this shit work. The Cylons were too close to humans to get the memo.

      Robert Milton
      The human race gets across land by setting off hundreds of explosions within a metal coffin with wheels. We achieved flight by setting fire to highly explosive fuel and squirting it behind us. Our Space program involved sticking ourselves on the end of a nuclear missile and aiming roughly in the destination, and our method of combat consists of "make holes in them until they stop working".
      That's why the aliens anal probe us, they want to find out how to get gigantic balls too.

    Even with both, there's no way they could have fought them all off. The only way they won was because of the surprise of the Pegasus; if they'd started out together, there would be no saving either of them. They couldn't risk losing both ships, leaving the fleet defenseless altogether.
    I have never seen a scene more badass than that one, and half the credit goes to the music. Holy HELL were there some amazing decisions that I'm so happy they made. Okay, nerding out over. Love the video, dude.

    I think this is the episode where the series jumped the shark. It reached its absolute zenith at this point, then fell to final five plotline, cyclon mesiah/hera and the whole starbuck non sense. When I saw this episode it was epic in its daring and ambition. Still is epic years later. I cry a little that there is nothing in SciFi or TV for that matter that comes close.

    THANK you: for NOT adding '...rock, techno, and god forbid rap…' to a scene that DOESN'T need anyone's 'help' to make it 'better.'
    Bear McCreary's music, and that PLUNGE Galactica makes is AWESOME enough.

    1:30 I love the ecclectic array of guns--AR variants, an undisguised AK, maybe a Beretta 12S, several others. I remember Starbuck having a good collection at her apartment on Caprica. Apparently the Articles of Colonization had quite a Second Amendment.

    Although it is fiction.. "The Adama Manouvre" is ingenious and is done completely parallel to the teachings of Sun Tzu. If anyone has read it, they will find that the aspect of risk and gain has carefully been implemented in Adama's tactics.
    He risked the Galactica along with the crew and himself. He lost the Pegasus, but gained the rescue of his people.

    One of the best BSG videos on UA-cam. This video is hardly even pieced together it's a full run of the escape and the music is the actual score that was playing (in real time) during this the scene of escape. But I know what you mean in general, some of these guys get out of hand with the music.

    I actually screened this episode to a couple guys who were going to Annapolis, one on the Navy track, the other as a Marine. They thought it was fucking genius. The Marine's only beef was that he felt Galactica could have introduced more of its own ground forces into play than just one Raptor full of Colonial Marines.

    @Olympicnut in the episode they clearly state that the FTL is non functioning on the pegasus. Lee wanted to have the pegasus jump after Galactica did. That is the train they decided to ram the Basestar

    Look, I'm a Trekker, but I also loved such shows as Babylon 5 and of course Battlestar Galactica. THIS was the single best battle sequence ever, and that includes the original Death Star battle, the final battle against the Dominion and B5 vs the Earth Alliance, which all were just full of toasty exploding goodness. Probably the closest I've seen just for sheer "holy crap" value was probably the battle at the River Rauros in Two Towers (where Boromir died), but this is number one.

    You know, I LOVED this show, damn near cried when it ended. But, when Galatica Jumped in and Col.Ty and the chief looked up I tried to think of how I would have felt or thought seeing her falling like that. To me it would have been like looking at a Gods flaming hand coming down to save his childern in there hour of need. Atleast...that was my first thought. Second thought was...HOLY S*** Thats Epic!

    First time commenting in a while. Some people saying that the re-entry flames from Galactica are unrealistic. I just wanted to point out that in the new canon, Galactica is nearly a mile long, and that if you scale Galactica up from something like the USS Enterprise, it probably has a mass approaching a million tons. If you introduce something of that size into the atmosphere at a great height, it's going to produce a serious amount of friction as it starts to fall. Furthermore, direction in space is relatively arbitrary, so it's not unreasonable to suggest that Galactica could have been moving at great speed perpendicular to it's 'length' when it entered (and exited) FTL. Even if it had a vertical velocity of zero when it entered the atmosphere, it's worth noting that although Galactica looks like it's close to the ground in this footage, it's so huge that even many miles up, it would still appear as a very large object in the sky (suggesting that it is higher and falling faster than appears). I don't think the re-entry flames are all that unreasonable.

    You just survived a purge. Adama's last flight, Death of Roslin, etc are gone. Only this one remains.
