  • A ton of credit to Clonetrooper87 and his BSG video. The basic structure is the same with exception of music, timing and some of the clips used.

    Would love to see a BSG series depicting a Colonies vs Cylon war on even ground. None of this sneak attack BS. Battle Star Groups vs Cylon main battle fleet. No hacks, straight up capital ship slugfest (with fighters in support).. A nerd can dream...

    As an addendum, American and Japanese designers were painfully aware of this vulnerability and took drastic steps to protect their capital ships against underwater shell hits. Namely, the South Dakotam Iowa, Montana(projected but not built) and Yamato classes all featured lower internal (even if the main belt was external) armor belts that went right through the middle of their torpedo protection systems and extended all the way to the keel.

    A bit of escapism from one of the best sci-fi series on TV and only bettered by the British Blake’s 7 series that needs to be brought into the 21st century and like Galactica not changed out of all recognition from the 70’s programmes
    Nice one 👍🏻

    The music is very martial and appropriate for this vid...and to match that with how Galactica and the Pegasus whipped some Basestar's ass just brings the oompf factor way up.

    One thing we never really saw in the BSG universe (with the debatable exception of the Heavy Raider) was a kind of lighter, cruiser or destroyer-class ship to complement the big, expensive Battlestar or Basestar. Smaller, cheaper ships for suppressing pirates or chasing down Cylon intruders would've been an interesting addition to the Galactica fleet, if any had survived the Fall. They could've been on deployed on reconnaissance-in-force stuff, like the events of Razor, for example. my two $. :)

    Excellent my friend.. The music was very fitting... I have to admit that the scene where Galactica and Pegasus are circling and pummeling the Basestar from Ressurection still gets me going...

    The board's reasoning in its dismissal had one fundamental flaw; they would have absolutely no way of knowing the point at which the shell hit the water and bgan its underwater trajectory. Also the Japanese and US had discovered years earlier that a water impact didn't necessarily trigger the shell's fuse. The British also had no meaningful data on the ballistic properties of German Naval ordinance until after WWII. This is why the board's dismisal carries little weight in a number of circles.

  • @DLordSadow
    @DLordSadow 14 років тому

    As a final addendum: ( I appologize for being so long winded) The British and German naval architects were apparently unaware of this threat until after their ships were hit in this manner. It should be noted that even if they did, and took appropriate steps in their new designs, nothing really could have been done for Hood. There really wouldn't have been any feasible way to retro-fit an internal belt extending to the ship's keel.

    I am so glad that Ron Moore remade BSG, and I know for sure he did so in homage to Glen Larson's original BSG.
    I just wish Glenn Larson could have carried out the story line of the original BSG, I am pissed that his BSG was canceled after only one season.
    Better yet, I would have loved to have seen what Glenn Larson could have done with his BSG if he had the special effects Ron Moor has today.

    Also, I like the aircraft carrier comparison. BSG combines the best elements of a battleship (heavy guns and plenty of armor, since there's no weight limit) with the power of an aircraft carrier. If you'll remember, I believe it was aircraft from Soldier Field that chased down and sank the crippled Hiei and Kirishima after the battle you mentioned. The armor also helps nullify the traditional weaknesses of an aircraft carrier, namely that it is a floating bomb with aviation gas and munitions.

    Raiders, 'skinjobs' *aka the 12 cylon models*, and the basestars are all bio-mechanic. Although you never see blood when the basestars explode. One of the episodes that show that the basestars are bio-mechanic is the one where Sharon sees the multiple copies of herself when she tries to deploy the nuke bomb.

  • @Napalmratte
    @Napalmratte 14 років тому

    @FORTYSHIPS you are not completely wrong ^^
    they had to lure the raiders far away, because they needed their own raiders to fight the reckogning ship!
    and in a normal battle, galactica has these raiders to fight the cylon raiders :)
    also the baseships fight with rockets witch can be destroyed, bevore they hit galactica
    but galactica fights with grenades
    to this comes the thick armor of galactica ^^
    and at the end of the battle, two baseships were down and both battlesars had little damage! ^^

    @DRienecker i watched all except the 4th season
    but if you watched it, you would know that adama said at the very beginning: we have to fight
    also the cylons only had a chance because they had a program in the battlestars so that they were unable to fight
    so the cylons nuked them with maybe 3 or 4 nukes.
    also the only reason why adama didn't attak the cylons is, that there were no shipyards for greater repairs left and they had to defend the civil fleet!

    @FORTYSHIPS ok ^^
    yea, well the raiders can damage/destroy the turrents but they aren't well armored ^^
    also i thought about the structure of a battlestar - the raiders can't damage it!
    also a battlestar would be able to create a huge flak field around the center of a basestar, where the raiders launche - this would be very effective
    i wonder why they didn't do it in the show : /

    i know that and you're absolutely right with it
    the difference is: WWII was real - this is 'just a tv - show' (though i love it and it's/was one of the best shows in tv ever!)
    but the difficulty is: on the one hand: galactica is lost in the show most times
    on the other hand: galactica can hold of two basestars for a long time (miniseries)
    the relations in the show chance all the time
    but if you take the show for real (the damages from shells and rockets) --> calactica> 1! basestar

  • @SpazzyMcGee1336

    True. I had a falling out a season or so ago after I noticed the lack of battle sequences coupled with my inability to stay interested in the characters. However I have recently picked it up again and it seems good.
    It's just that the first season was frak full of the awesomeness that is BSG action sequences, but then they cut us off. It was like a bait and switch, entice with the expensive CGI and then quickly switch it out for cheap live action.
    So close though, wonder how it all ends.

    @usnsquirrel i must agree with you regarding the jumpdrive, but if u consider rest of the ship it is possible. Not everything space related comes from NASA. Galactica main guns if i recall are some kind of railguns and if i remember correctly US navy is researching that kind of guns, but as you say their tech is mostly 50-75 years away, if you do not count communication technology on Galactica.

    Wow, holy comment-from-one-year-ago-coming-back, Batman. Yes, I'm familiar with inertia, but in a universe with FTL jumps that cancel out your inertia (See: Daybreak), it doesn't seem to matter as much. The Battlestar-universe also mostly ignores inertia (see: Vipers using their jets to turn, Battlestars and Basestars seemingly stopping dead in space during capital ship engagements, etc), just for your radar.

    @usnsquirrel i can see that aerodynamics would have major role in Viper and Raptor desing but in desing of BSG it would not matter much as there is no air ressistance in moving trought space. Only requirements of BSG desing would be structural integrity and turret positioning, along with rest of the "normal" requirements for space ship like life support, armor and all that.
    My main problem in discussing this is my lack of lanague skills (as i never learned english in school) so there is alot...
