Not sure why someone would dislike this video, it's a person to the best of their current abilities doing actual Renmei Iaido. We all have things we need to work on, but I appreciate someone putting up videos without falsely claiming to be a "sword master" and instead just showing what their abilities are at right now.
To each is own I guess, though personally I'll never understand why people post videos of themselves practicing iaido as much as I'll never understand why people celebrate their own birthdays. Plus, being that the art is very conservative, posting videos of oneself is often seen as presumptuous by senior teachers. I've heard of rokudan instructors being dragged by their Japanese contacts for being what they think is bold enough to post videos of themselves. Even seen hachidan instructors apologize before putting their opinions in writing.
Awesome job, thank you for posting this kata. It’s very inspiring to see that as a beginner you were able to achieve already smoothness and precise movements. Arigato! 😊
Great work. Very fluid Kata. Try using the bottom of the Tsuka where your right hand is as a lever when you strike down. The difference in power you generate is noticeable.
Wow, this is really good! I did Iaido back in my college days and this brings back memories. I distinctly remember the form being a lot harder than it looks, but you pulled this off very well.
I watch your videos on Instagram a lot but just found your UA-cam channel lol. Really like your keiko videos for Iai & other budo with such correct & elegant movements!
I just started learning seitei myself, following mainly let’s ask shogo to learn the steps, I still don’t understand the knee turn on the 2nd kata… like it doesn’t make since in my head. But there isn’t anywhere I can go to have someone instruct me. Currently I’ve learned katas 1-6 and am working on cleaning them up, I do have to account for my roof while performing the standing kata so I know my angles aren’t perfect. But this was good! Good job and I hope you are still at it!
Very nice Sarah, keep the good work! I love it and used to practice with my bokken at home, after having left the class. So I started Taekwon-do and would like to do Iaido again in some moment at the future.
Remember that on Mae (n.1) and Ushiro (n.2) your opponent is right in front of you and he's same height as you and you are cutting at eye level, your cuts are far to high. Also, on the second cut (kote) your sword should not drop below your knee. I'm not a sensei, I'm probably at your same level, but I could notice these things as they are pretty important points on those techniques.
I haven’t gotten far into iaido like this- mainly bc I don’t have anywhere to go to teach so I took online courses, and I keep practicing each day this helps me as well.
Thanks Sarah. I am a few weeks into Iaido and this is nice and clear - v helpful for me as I am at the stage where I am just trying to remember the different 'steps' to the few kata I have started learning.
Nicely done. Keep practicing your drawing and cutting. Ukenagashi (受け流し) can be tricky to begin with, but you did well with Tsuka-ate (柄当て). I've seen even a master stab himself while doing that kata.
I was about to say that looked like Eishen ryu myseld, but then saw several comments pointing out the difference. I studied Mugai Ryu while i lived in Chicago until i had to move away. I miss it so bad. Unfortunately im so out of practice that trying to pick it back up from memory would be more harmful than helpful.
They are very similar in style, and this is seitei so it’s hard to spot the ryuha 😊 you should just give it a go with a bokken, you never know until you try!
@@sarahhelena1333 what i really need to do is try to schedule some time to make a trip back to my school in Chicago so they can help me dust off the cobwebs 😅 I feel like if I did it would be like ridding a bike. That muscle memory would kick in
Keep up the good practice. It's all about being better than we were. I practice Eishin-Ryu and can see subtle difference in the kata from what I've learned. If I'm correct, that's Seitei Iai?
So a what style of, swordsman ship, do you practice.... and your pretty good. at it is it like. Is it bujinkan, asayama Ryu, shoden katori shinto ryu, no it's yagyu shinkage Ryu, or Shinbukan Kurada Taijutsu?😅
How do you do this without the hardwood floor causing shooting pains in your knees? Does the outfit help as padding? Not from injuries, my knees just hate being on hardwood floor!
Hello Sarah nice job this is really appreciate to watch what iaido is and not "sword movings" forms are good but there are some mistakes, sorry for my bad english :) mae - ushiro > nukitsuké > kisaki is to high, (perfectly is at about your shoulders heigth) end of all cuts > kisaki is very too low. rotations > fumikae doesn't exist in ZNKR iai, next foot but be parallel every time. (i can give you a tip to improve it) your practice is good, but i think the iaito doesn''t fit you, maybe too heavy, dans tsuka is too long for you
Merci mademoiselle...
I don't know if you have any grades, but if you training ZNKR Iaido, your feet must slide on the floor, not stepping. Looks like you also training kendo, because your heel is too high after the cut. Nukitsuke is too high. I recommend you first working on sayabiki and sayabanare, this help you during initial cuts. Also, you are cutting too deep for seitei, it's okay for korju. And you are using too much right hand during two-hand cuts. 5th Kesagiri the lower and uppercut must be one movement without stopping. And last thing, migi ni hiraite no chiburi (joko chiburi) is not so aggressive, because it's not a real movement for removing blood, its only movement to the right (this is also translated from Japanese words). Good luck with the training you have great potential for the future. :)

So inspiring to see another woman doing Iaido!
Very nicely done. I used to do this in my teens. I wish I had more time to do it again now as an adult.
It's a lovely art! I hope you'll have the chance again :)
This video captures Iaido the very way I watched my teacher do kata. Clean, precise and relaxed.

Great vid. Very nice to see traditional way of doing iaido and not fancy and flashy stuff. Keep up good work.

Perfect straightness !Straightness and justice are values of samourais and swords must serve justice .

Great, but it seems to be a minus that with Mae, the first cut is too high and you cut the second one too low.
Wh-
Since when could a sword make a good swoosh with a thrust??
That’s actually impressive, holy shit
Haha, maybe it was the cloth of the uniform?
Oh that makes sense
Is it a Iaito or a real Katana?
All the best for your training. It's not an easy art and seitei is much more precise than koryu iai. Which country are you training in?
Thanks! Both actually, they are stimulating in their own ways 😊

The horizontal cut on mae is way to high
What is the name of this outfit?
It’s traditional uniform for iaido. Hakama are the pants and uwagi is the top. You should find it online if you do a search 😊
