Iaido Seitei: November 9 2023
Continued progress in iaido. Today the focus remains on nukeuchi and noto, primarilyy, and building on the concepts that have been the focus in recent months such as kirioroshi and movement from the hara . This video is not for instructional purposes. I’m just a beginner and this is my training from today. Many things I still want to improve upon. Please enjoy 😊
Summer training by the river
I slipped in the mud and almost landed in the river 😅 but even on a narrow strip, it’s a beautiful spot to train in the summer! There’s still a lot to fix and quite a few mistakes. I like to make these videos for my own record and to learn about my own form better. Please don’t mistake it for anything demonstrative. There’s a long road ahead, so please enjoy the scenery with me 🙏
Winter practice 寒稽古: katana free flow forms

It’s “daikan” (大寒); the coldest time of the year. On a quiet and snowy morning, there is a special atmosphere to train alone ⚔️🙇🏻♀️
Concepts in Nito, or, Dual Wielding with daisho (long and short)

These are just my thoughts and ideas based on practice and experiments. I’m interested in how they can be used and moved with. If you study this or have experiences to share I’d love to read about it. Drop me a comment below 😊🙏

Jodo kata reimagined with katana
If the sword is just the staff, how would the forms look if performed with a katana? The concepts of daisho 大小 have been the heart of my practice recently. The staff has the advantage of many weapons in one, so how about transferring those ideas back to the katana. Is it possible? More, is it useful?

Another video not meant as a demonstration of form but rather as a record of my progress and a training tool. I hope it can also help anyone else who might stumble on it in their own training 🙏
Iaido kata 1-7 (minus 3)
This is not a demonstration of perfect form, just where I am with my iaido practice right now. Except for the third kata (Sanbon me 受け流し) because I still have a lot of work to do on it 😅 So much more to learn! ❤️🙏
Slow. Patient. Feel it out.
This is how I learn something new - to open my heart and mind to understanding; to feel it, to imagine the line of the cut and to let the sword guide me, how it wants to move. It’s never perfect but we have to start somewhere! I had to edit out long pauses of 20s or more from this video; I thought it had frozen! It was me who was frozen, thinking through the next movement. I trained on the rive...

Notes on iaido training this week
This is a quick video for myself, to record some notes on the 7 details I’m focussing on improving in my training this week. I’m sharing it here in case it’s useful to anyone else who is working on their form with the katana, and for posterity. Actually there are two levels I want to incorporate into my practice. The first level is cleaning up my form and the second is improving my overall perf...

Nice
Nice form and flow...
Nicely done.
I love it. Makes me want to try Iaido even more.

Great, but it seems to be a minus that with Mae, the first cut is too high and you cut the second one too low.

girl are you still practicing?!
Very interesting concepts. You have great coordination! I still struggle with sheathing and unsheathing movement. Nito is really hard, but it’s still so incredibly cool

I watch your videos on Instagram a lot but just found your UA-cam channel lol. Really like your keiko videos for Iai & other budo with such correct & elegant movements!
Your movements are very graceful. What i think you are missing is what i call the flip of distance. Let me explain. When you have swords of uneven length, at distance, the short sword is primarily defensive, and the long sword is for attacking. Once you get in close range, it switches. Because it is harder to control longer swords at close range, the long sword must be used primarily for defense, and the short sword becomes your primary attack weapon. Depending on the flow of the fight, it is very difficult to switch mindsets so quickly. I have been experimenting with the concept of dual Nodachi fighting ( if you are wondering, yes it was slightly inspired by Ruroni Kenshin) I find that the simplicity of tatics is an interesting tradeoff for the loss of length. I recommend giving it a try and tell us what you think. Keep practicing. Your skills are impressive. 😊
Wow, this is really good! I did Iaido back in my college days and this brings back memories. I distinctly remember the form being a lot harder than it looks, but you pulled this off very well.
Where do i find iado trainess because right now kendo. Trainess is a lot more than iado traines

Great insights!
How do you do this without the hardwood floor causing shooting pains in your knees? Does the outfit help as padding? Not from injuries, my knees just hate being on hardwood floor!
What is this music? Sounds like something my tai chi class might like
So a what style of, swordsman ship, do you practice.... and your pretty good. at it is it like. Is it bujinkan, asayama Ryu, shoden katori shinto ryu, no it's yagyu shinkage Ryu, or Shinbukan Kurada Taijutsu?😅
love yoru videos guapa! thanks a lot for sharing!
Perfect
Beautifully..evry angle....really well executed.....🎉
That form

Excellence! ❤
WHY ARE YOU SITTING HALF OF THE TIME, THATS NOT HOW IT WORKS AND WHY DID YOU LEAVE OUT MAWASASHI
Very nice. I see improvement from earlier videos. Keep it up. You've got a nice "softness" that I like.
Beautiful. Graceful. Perfect form! Thanks for the video.
Seriously, How many styles do you know? it's very impressive! 😄
Is it a Iaito or a real Katana?
bimyosugi! who would have ever thought typing iaido katas would bring you to a woman???
Love this!
Kinda reminds me of blue eyed samurai a bit
LOL why is a woman playing w a real sword. The kitchen is that way ---->>>>>
Only recently heard of this use of the Jo. Yours was one of the first I came across, no exaggeration to say I wish I was like you. Where did you learn? Are you self taught? Are there books I could learn from.....so many questions.......
Great work. Very fluid Kata. Try using the bottom of the Tsuka where your right hand is as a lever when you strike down. The difference in power you generate is noticeable.
Very good and strict form
❤
Nice. I would like to get into one of the sword arts. Thanks for the video.
Hi muso shinden ryu ZNKR Sandan here. Just wanted to say, great progress from that video two years ago when compared to this one. Really great stuff. A few things to work on, please at 0:13, have your feet shoulder width. When you put your feet together, you become stable. This is why people wobble when moving the right foot backwards on Mae . I know, I've been there. Your Ukenagashi is coming along really nice, deffiently the best kata in this enbu. For Morote-tsuki, get that sword above your head. Before turn, practice twisting (180) and raising the sword to your ear. The faster we get it above our head the better. We never need to pull it forward (towards us) then up. Re-watch your thrust in Shihōgiri, and think "did i give my opponent 100%, or did I move onto the next cut". Writing feedback for iaido, seems impossible hard. Lots I want to say to help refine this further. But, the only thing that matters is your enjoying iaido and trying your best. That's all any of us really can do it. Gl.
I understand your advices based on kindness, but you should not give her advice any more.
Parabéns!!!!
