- IM NOT A CAR REVIEWER! This is MY PERSONAL 2024 Toyota Prius LE ( Gen 5 ) that I purchased and wanted to give you a walkaround for the base model. I’ve owned this Prius for about 1 month now and have just hit 1,000 miles on it. Over my 1 month of ownership, I'm learning more about the car every time I drive it. If you are looking for all the specs for this car, visit the Toyota website for the 2024 Toyota Prius, or other UA-camrs that read a paper and talk about all the fancy features. With this Prius LE being the base model, you don’t get all the features that are advertised on the nicer 2024 Prius XLE and 2024 Prius Limited trims. I haven’t seen people talking about and showing the LE version, so here is mine! Enjoy!
If your interested in buying a CatShield from MillerCat to install on your Prius like I did on mine, check out my link and code for a discount and check out my install video:

I'm planning on trading in my 2010 Prius for a 2025. I learned so much from your video! Thx!
That’s a nice looking car. That Prius in white with the black wheels looks amazing.
Agreed, best color there is. I'm sad they didn't release the yellow here in the states, that would have been my other option I would have chosen
Shifter moved now in more convenient place, I like that
Agreed
Very thorough review which included mention of the rear passenger fan vent. My 2012 Prius made no mention of this but thanks to another UA-camr (The Car Care Nut), I bought a filter for mine on eBay.
I enjoy watching The Car Car Nut. He helped me with info to do a torque converter on my Rav4 myself. Glad you enjoyed the review!
Got my LE AWD coming in this week. Definitely excited.
was able to claim my LE and they told me that getting AWD wasn't possible... damn 😭
Looks very cool , love the black back window. Could be lux sporty car.
You can select the stations you prefer under Favorites. You simply tune to the station you want, select the little heart to the right, and then it shows up under the Favorites category screen.
BTW, you can also set the electronic parking brake to automatically engage when you put the car in park. I forget how I did it, but it's in the manual. The dealer rep didn't know that so he kept mentioning to always push the electronic brake button after I pressed the Park button.
Congrats. I got the Prime XSE Premium a couple of months ago, and I love it.
good to know about the radio. I just have my phone pair to android auto because i hate commercials. also i did know about the parking brake. i went through the manual and changed a lot of the features. still dialing in all the features how i like them.
I agree the white color is nice! I’m worried about that gauge cluster brother and not getting a good view. Something I would definitely need to see in person. I’m about ready to trade in my 2017 Prius with 250,000 miles. It’s been a fantastic car but nearing 300,000 miles and I run a heavy commute it’s time to trade it in.
Beautiful Prius!
Thanks!
Have a 2024 great video
Thanks!
How is your MPG on this so far ? I'm on market for toyota hybrid and prius and corolla are my options
wow you are a big guy for a Pius. Nice review.
Excellent review. Thanks
Thanks a lot for the video. According to your video, prius doesn't have a memory function for the radio? That would be a bummer. Also, no memory function for the seats, do you miss that?
Is it possible to make the speedometer numbers bigger?
Odometer trip now moved from steering wheel almost under seat. It’s now well hidden spot
I leave it on ODO and don't use the trip settings much. If you did use trip alot, I feel it would be inconvenient
A couple of notes: The paint is not white. We have a Pearl coloured Prime and it was several weeks after we bought it home before we realized the thing is Pearl. Look at the paint from up close in the sun to see what I mean. Also, under those wheel covers you'll find a nice set of wheels, not the cheap stamped steel rims typical of cars that have hubcaps. Our Prime is ten weeks+ with 1,400 m so far. Still on the first tank of fuel.
Nice ride
Thanks 👍
2 questions. First how much did you get it for. 2nd what happens if you're driving down the freeway and something hits the Parking button? Maybe I drop a cell phone or a kid touches it?
just got the SE
Have you tried driving just on eco mode if so what kind of mpg did you get? 66 seems too high, is it even possible to get that many? If you could buy any trim level which one would you get?
I had one trip hit about 76MPG during about 40 miles of driving (conditions were mostly downhill on eco mode). So i don't think that 66MPG is too high, depends on conditions and distance.
Did not know about the trunk space, :)
Now you know! having a large dog, it gives her more room back there
@thepriusdad is there a way to pop open the trunk from the driver seat? I have an XLE so I don't have a powered trunk
There is no opening the trunk from any buttons, not even the key. You have to activate the standard trunk latch at the back of the vehicle to open it and pull open. Doesn't have any automatic opening abilities.
It's the smaller diameter base model wheels that give you better mileage
tomorrow i test drive the Limited. it has power seats. cannot find LE to test drive. so with the non-powered seats in the LE are they comfortable. I am 5 ft 8. Appreciate thoughts from anyone
how was the test drive ? I didn't really use the power seats since I'll be hitting the roof
It's nice and all, I just seldom see them in stock. For now, the Corolla Hybrid (and others) are the go-to substitute.
I have an LE as well in guardian grey! What’s your average mpg ? I am at 66.1 at the moment
after my first 1000 miles, i averaged about 47mpg. Its usually loaded with the whole family (added weight) and here in SoCal its pretty hilly. ive been driving in sport mode a lot exploring the feels of the different drive modes.
@@ThePriusDad I live in socal as well ! My commute is mostly bumper to bumper traffic and some personal driving on the weekends.
For a full tank I am now reaching 606 miles til empty. At first I was only getting 530
I would drive in sport mode more often but I bought it mostly for a daily driver car. I have my sporty car for Sundays lol
Ty for that info kind Sir. I was looking for that info for a long time so far and it's very helpful. I'm a 2020 prius limited edition owner and currently my best avereage mpg was 61 and living in DTLA in case you wondering.
@EwwwwwPeople the highest average I've recorded was on a ~40mile trip mostly freeway and averaged 76MPG
Did you own previous generations of Prius? Look like it’s getting smaller and smaller, especially trunk. My first Prius I got not because it’s efficiency, but because cargo size. 2010 is longer inside then most hatchbacks. 2016 got lower hatch line, it’s become more tricky to fit my hybrid bike. And after driving over 160 K mi without problems I decided to buy another one
Not owned, but my dad has a Gen2. I'd say it has its pros and cons. Feels like less trunk space, but makes up for other things like more comfort in the front seats. You definitely sit alot lower, that's for sure.
What are your window tint % for front and rear windows? How are you liking the vehicle?
5% on the backs, no tint up front (yet). Loving it and getting great mileage too.
@@ThePriusDad thanks for replying. I have one more question...have you gotten a spare tire for it? I've looked into spare options and it seems that the tires (even original ones) are very hard to find!
Not yet, but I'm most likely going to sometime soon with how much we road trip. There is a forum page called PriusChat, some of the members there have part numbers for all the parts you would need to store a spare in the trunk. They are all Toyota OEM part numbers too so you can get them at your local dealership.
@@ThePriusDad Thanks! The only problem I think is that with the prime, there is the main charger for the electric system up under the foam with the wire going directly from it to the charger on the side of the vehicle. see page 84 of the online owners manual. I'm not sure it can be done with one with AWD (they have a large wire going to the rear tires as well) or the Primes (due to the plug in electrical system). Check into it and let me know what you think!
Do u like it or do you wish you got a different trim prius or a different car?
I do like it! I dont wish I got a different car. I also couldn't justify the current markups for the other trims. If I lived somewhere with snow or colder weather, the heated features would have been nice in the higher trims. But here in SoCal, the coldest we experience would be around 40 degrees so I don't need all those features.
@@ThePriusDad I didn’t know they marked up the other trims:( if you don’t mind me asking how much did you pay with everything including taxes and did you get any discount for it? What kind of mpg are you getting? I saw one comment saying g they get like 61 I didn’t know you can get that high
@@ThePriusDad sorry it was 66.1 somebody wrote they get, I didn’t think that was even possible
Depending where you live, for taxes and dealer markups, I would say between $31k-35k depending what accessories it comes with, too would be a good price.
Based on my research when i was looking and pricing near me ,the next trim up for the XLE, I was told about $41-44k, and for both the Prius Limited and Prius Prime SE (base model plug in version) would have been pushing over $50k and was out of my budget. The markups are CRAZY!
At 1000 miles make sure you do your break-in oil change then make sure you proceeded to do it every 5000 miles do not listen to the manufacturer recommendations that’s only under special conditions
Any mark up on LE and XLE ?
Unfortunately yes, there was on my LE, and even higher (almost x2 more) of a markup if I would have chosen the XLE. And I waited about 2 weeks for mine to arrive.
So how much over msrp?
@@adrienchan2097 at the time of purchase Dec 2023, about $2,000
@@ThePriusDadlocal dealer wanted 5k markup for a base model 😅
Door seals same design as previous generations. Always dirty. Lexus has much better design. Does rear sets folding flat in LE? Or because trunk floor is now lower, seat folded not flat any more?
I'd consider it surprisingly flat. It's not perfectly flat, but the transition is pretty good.
People that complain about the display being blocked by the steering wheel are lying down like they're in a la-z-boy recliner. Then need to sit up and pay attention. 🤣🤣
IMO Prius sacrificed practicality and mpg for looks and acceleration. These are the things that made Prius great. Should have done these things to Corolla instead.
Have you used B mode before? Does it work well
I have used B mode. And it does work well. RPMs kick up and it uses the engine for braking. It shows I'm regenerative recharging with no foot on the gas going down hills, barely have to touch the brakes
What's the avg mpg ?
Depends on my driving. I did a road trip a few weeks back and got ~51mpg average on the way there, and ~58mpg on the way back (400 miles each way, altitude ranging from sea level to over 4,000ft, and 70-75mph cruising on the freeway).
I've seen my tank average ( resets average every time you fill up) as high as 67mpg average for a full tank, and I've also gotten as little as 46mpg average for a full tank.
@ThePriusDad
OK, do you think the awd worth the extra money?
@Rock_of_Offense depends what you are using the car for and what the dealer markups are. I live in SoCal where it doesn't snow, and the dealerships in my area marked up AWD and Prime versions to the point where it wasn't worth for me.
You need to get your specs and info right on this car bro. You can’t be making a video talking about the le is missing the plug in feature. Non of the trims have the plug in feature only the prime models. So saying it doesn’t have the plug in doesn’t make sense. Because the xle and limited models are also not plug in
Nice. I
The wheel covers have nothing to do with fuel efficiency. It’s the smaller wheels and weight that gives you that. 🤦🏽♂️
Yes, smaller size wheels and less weight do make a difference in fuel efficiency. Also, in testing done by Car And Driver in December 2019 (specifically the Tesla Aero wheel covers on the Model 3), aerodynamic wheel covers tested at 50mph, 70mph and 90mph showed 3-5% more efficiency with the covers on vs with covers off.
So why Prius over a Camry?
Its what we decided as a family based on our wants and needs. we narrowed it down to the Rav4 or Prius and decided to do the Prius. one big reason is better gas mileage.
@@ThePriusDadHard comparison as the #'s aren't drastically different, but Prius does come out on top with MPG and 0-60 and assume it's more nimble which is more fun? The con would be smaller size vs Camry, and quite surprised you're 6'3 in a Prius! Of course you're not in the back.
At 6ft 3in, I'm was surprised I fit too when I first sat in one haha. And my seat isn't all the way back either!
@@ThePriusDadthen theres no way your 6’3 man. The major issue with all these reviews is lies about height . Im 6’1 without any adjustment it is a very tight fit
@millomaddix your right, I'm 6ft 2 7/8 inches with no shoes on and 290lbs. The seat is in the lowest position, the seats adjusts up and down. And I still have 2 more spots on the seat slide rails to move back a little bit more. Everyone has different bodies and different driving positions, so your results may very. I fit fine though in my LE because it doesn't have the sunroof. With the sunroof models, my head was hitting.
This guy not real knowledgeable......the wheel covers on the LE are NOT a factor in it's higher MPG. The PRIME model does not have more engine horsepower. (AWD models have 2 more HP) There is not such thing as "the CVT hybrid system". CVT is the Continuously Variable Transmission, not part of the hybrid system.
Brother, do your research before saying stuff on the net. The Prius Prime has 220 hp compared to the regular Prius, which has 196 hp. They use an eCVT transmission, which is a CVT transmission without the belt and chain, made especially for hybrids, so he is not wrong. Also, wheel covers always help with your MPG no matter the car. Next time, please use Google before grabbing your keyboard.
Lol this guy got confused with the 2025 Camry Hybrid FWD vs AWD horsepower rating.
