I've had mine two days and I love it. As my first mechanic taught me "A vehicle is a tool" I have a 97 F350, 85 Alfa Romeo Spider and a 76 BMW R90/6. They all have their purpose. The Prius is the go to for everyday driving. Fuel economy is outstanding and the ride is very good.
Did you get the Prime version or a regular hybrid model.
Same 0-60 time as an 80s corvette. I remember those being fun.
C3 or C4?
@@BrianMakse good question. That was a five second Google on my part.
I have a 2024 Prius awd. I can go close to 60 miles a gallon on the freeway.
Nice work!
Perfect timing. Just finished binge watching videos on the Tesla M3 refresh.
40 MPG is a great number. And AWD. Win win and those looks 😍
It sure is!
47-50mpg.
@@paulm6481 40 mpg way understates this car’s fuel efficiency. If you go on non-traffic jam drives over 10 miles and at speeds under 45 mph, you can easily achieve 60 mpgs.
I’ve heard people complain about the speedo being offset to the right in the previous gen Prius. To me it’s perfect. I hate having to adjust my steering wheel to see the gauges. My wife has a ‘21 Prime because she was commuting to Colorado from Dallas 3 times a month. It’s a goofy ass looking car, but, man, it’s really good at doing what it’s supposed to do. We’ll never not have a Prius in the stable.
Omg the apple ads are atrocius. But this car is a must hv for me. And the sound it makes backin up is truly priceless
Brian understates fuel efficiency. Normal driving on my 2024 XLE FWD yields a minimum of 48 mpg for short 4-5 mile drives, and always over 55 mpg for > 7 mile drives. Getting over 60 mpg is common for longer drives!
It’s impossible for me to do that.
@@BrianMakseHa Ha! You drive hard and fast unlike me!
This morning the trip computer estimated an EV range of 95Km. A few days ago I drove 91Km in EV with 6% SOC left. In hybrid mode, on our first highway trip, we saw 62mpg. After 5,500Km we have used less than 1.5 tanks of gas. And, our 24 Prime does 0-60 in 6.48.
@@TomLawlor-iq6gmYou have a Plug-in Prime model, not the regular Prius being discussed here.
@@wifi-YT Yes, that's right. But when the Traction Battery is exhausted, the car is the same as the regular Prius.
Slick review. Smooth and folksy rundown on everything important=5 steering wheels here.
Glad you enjoyed. This is the first time I’ve been accused of being folksy, though.
For me, simply lowering steering wheel allows a full unobstructed view of instrument cluster info. And that lower position feels perfect to me in terms of arm position for steering vehicle. So test it out for yourself; don’t assume there’s a real problem at all.
Also, if you’ve driven prior generations of Prius, you’ll find this Prius to be incredibly powerful by comparison. No one needs to accelerate faster than the zero-60 in 7.1 seconds this Prius does.
I don't get those who complain about the steering wheel blocking the cluster. My wife is 5'9", I'm 5'11". Neither of us has any issue with seeing the gauges. And, we each enjoy perfect comfort behind the wheel. Most of those who complain about this "issue" have the seat reclined like a GD beach chair. Your supposed to sit-up when driving.
The regular Prius does 0-60 in 7.1. The Prime (223hp), will cover the same distance in 6.48. Have had the new car for six months now, neither of us has fallen to the temptation..............yet.
If it came in a bright orange I would have bought an XLE AWD already.
The thing looks sort of like a Lamborghini Huracán and gets 40mpg, it’s really attractive!
I really like what they did with the new Prius, but I am still deciding whether to purchase it, considering how well the 2025 Camry compares and even exceeds with space and power. What are your recommendations? Prius XLE or Camry XLE? I want the style, function, comfort, and fuel efficiency.
Haven't tried the Camry yet! No doubt it's more of a traditional Toyota sedan in all of the ways we know, plus it's going to be significantly more spacious.
Tuff choice, I want both, I have 23 Prius XLE ànd wait for 26 Camry XLE w
They really need to make a GR Prius and GR Aygo for that sake!
Wouldn’t window tint also help mitigate against that glare?
Gonna trade my wrx in for one of these
That's an interesting move.
Bro is driving with he staring wheel buried in his chest. Good lord
Red alert!
We’ve got another one who doesn’t know how to sit behind the wheel properly!
Spare tires. The Dodo bird of the 2020's. Why? We don't all live in the city, and not every flat is repairable with a kit. A family member waited 3 hours on the side of I-5 waiting for a tow while in a major metro area. I don't always have cell coverage where we drive. Why not run-flats? I know they have some issues and not sure if they ever made any lower rolling resistance flavors. Aside from that, quite an engineered package. Maybe someday, they will make one a bit more fun in the handling and dynamics department, even if you give up a few mpg.
Toyota already makes one. Our 2024 Prime is a blast to drive on our twisty roads. With a heavy battery (adding 300lbs over the regular model), that sits low in the rear and boosting hp up to 223, this thing is quick and very responsive. With the 17" wheels the 0-60 time drops down to 6.48 seconds. The torque from the electric motors is instant so in Sport Mode, it's impressive. And, the car has even better milage. We have gotten 91Km (56+m), in EV Mode along with 62mpg in Hybrid Mode (when not driving like a savage). We got a $5,000 rebate with ours, virtually wiping out the extra cost of the Prime. In fact, in some Canadian provinces the rebate is so large (up to $8,500), it actually makes a Prime less expensive than the regular Prius. So, you'd be mental not to opt for the Prime. This is our third Prius but first PHEV version. We'll never go back to the non-Prime.
BTW, Toyota can furnish a Spare Tire Kit for the regular Prius. It includes a full sized tire/wheel, lug wrench, jack, modified foam inserts and, a protective cover to place over an electrical junction that sits in the space where the tire is stowed. Sadly, it will not fit in a Prime, the battery takes up all the room under the floor. We plan to buy a set of winter tires in a 215-60 16" with matching wheels to replace the OEM 195-60 R17 (nobody makes a winter grip in that size). We'll just shove one in back when doing road trips. Not ideal, but it's a spare.
I have AAA. It's 90 bucks a year.
Can you adjust the seat height for better dash visibility?
Of course you can, but that's not the point. There's an optimal driver-car seating position and asking the human to compromise that is kinda silly.
Just tilt the steering wheel down a bit and the dash is easily visible. It’s not a real problem.
I’m holding out for the GR Prius with a blown 350 hp flat four and the hybrid bits filling in the torque dip.
Keep waiting. Got mine - 2024 XLE
Does Toyota still have the "Stop Sale" order on these because of the back door latch opening if it gets wet?
I think calling Toyota hybrid transmission 'CVT' is not entirely true. Toyota itself calling it 'e-cvt' surely doesn't help.
That is really a good looking vehicle. They could call it Celica. The new real Prius is that new Camry..
Great review finally some one is mentioning the glare. One of my friends had a new Prius and he let me drive in Vancouver for 2 days.I also couldn't get used to not seeing the gages .I have a 2024 Mx 5 yup in red. With it when I turn it on and look at the gages it makes me feel I'm part of the car and when I get out and walk away I look back at my Mx 5 and I never did that once with the Prius and for me that's a true test if you should buy a car One more thing I lost track of how many times I hit my head getting in and out of the Prius and I'm only 5 four 9.Is it just me
Lies. I’m 5’9 and I never have problems with my 2024 XLE. It’s the perfect low riding car.
Prius over EV anyday
💯
Not if most of your driving is local, and short drives.
I approve suntdriver j😂
Stunt every day.
If I have to log a lot of miles and gas is on me there’s really no other choice on the market at this price. Toyota absolutely killed with the new Prius.
What colour is it?
Can't remember what it's called, but I'm sure I mentioned it later in the episode.
Guardian Grey
Nonsense, the gauge cluster can be made visible for any driver. My wife is 5'7, I'm 5 11" no problems in the least.
Of course…as long as you’re willing to compromise your seating position.
@@BrianMakse Honestly, just rose the seat an inch and pushed the wheel in a small amount. I can not only see the entire cluster, I can see the full area below it, right down to the dash. It's comfortable for us both.
@@BrianMakse Brian,
I just noticed something after rewatching your film after your reply regards cluster view. You have your seat-back reclined. So, you are not only sitting low (your preferred position), you are reclining back further than us. Try adjusting the seat back straighter, then fine tune the wheel height and telescopic setting. I think you'll be pleased.
So ?
@@TomLawlor-iq6gmit’s absurd to compromise one’s seating position to fix an ergonomic flaw. Also: Learn How To Sit Behind The Wheel

Simply too expensive. 45k for a prius or Corolla is ridiculous.
You need to get a side hustle…then maybe you can start saving up.
@Metalkit404, if you need to have a side gig to buy a car, you shouldn't be getting that car. Paying 45k for a Corolla or a Prius and 78 month payment plans is why Murica is not great anymore
@@trex1448 not for the car goober im just telling you now you need one if you think everything is expensive jeez😂
Ev over Prius now
Lmao 40 is not okay for a Prius. I get 62 out of my 2022 at the cost of getting there a little slower
Lmao I don’t drive like a eunuch.
How short is this guy that he can't see over the steering wheel...
5’ 2”
@@BrianMakse Don't blame the car for that... It's been found in real life to be a non issue.
@@realiltyI’m not 5’ 2” and the ergonomics are flawed.
It’s funny, I drive about 100 cars a year and it’s only this one that demands I sit in a less that optimal position.
@@BrianMakse That's what a lot of people said when the car was launched. Those people were just being negative, and it caught on. Turned out it was a none issue for many people in the real world.
@@realilty perhaps some people. Not me, but that's just my opinion, man.
(Don't worry, I'm not an expert on the subject of driving and definitely haven't been teaching performance and race driving for decades or anything.)
Toyota did a terrible job with the ergonomics of the thing--the impossibility of seeing the instrument pod using anything other than a very awkward steering wheel position was a show-stopper for me. The glare (your were the only reviewer who mentioned this) only adds to my concerns.
Thanks for a great review, though.
Yeah, adjusting the steering wheel is a deal breaker for some! 😂 love my 2024 XLE Prius 52-56 mpg average
Lowering the steering wheel eliminates any dash viewing problem. And that lowered steering wheel position is comfortable. It shouldn’t be a deal breaker for anyone.
@@wifi-YT Exactly
Such a bad design with gauges, that engineer should be fired.
Terrible car. The only reason anybody is praising the car is pretty much of the design. It looks good and so everyone wants to hype up everything else to justify their purchase
What makes it a terrible car?
Hype-up the car ?
Our Prime is six months old and we have not burned two tanks of gas after 5,375 miles (8,600 Km). It handles like a dream, is very comfortable and the thing will stop itself if a pedestrian walks in front (or back ), of you. Oh, ya, it will get to 60mph in 6.48 seconds.
Everyone really hates it when someone talks about something they know squat about.
Getting 52 mpgs without having to charge the vehicle, good acceleration, and great looks, is hardly terrible.
