ECU update on Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster for massively improved performance

- For better performance I am reprogramming the ECU of my 2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster. For the past months I have had the Boosterplug installed - it did a very good job of improving idle and power at lower revolutions and it is a really easy /plug and play / quick-fix to improve the performance. Updating the ECU is more like "the full monty" of improving the engine management. Thank you so much for inspiration in the comments section to a previous video of mine: A fellow Triumph owner informed me of the opportunity to have the ECU reprogrammed to fit the motorcycle and unleash the full engine potential.
The equipment I am using is OBDLink for gaining access to the ECU via the OBD plug. The app is TuneECU for Android and then just one of our household android tablets. The new ECU file was purchased at DNK TuneWorks and programmed to fit the configuration of my motorcycle. The changes to OEM specification include Vance&Hines exhaust and a Motone X-pipe to replace the catalytic converter. These changes are taken into account by DNK TuneWorks in the updated ECU program.
The first ride since the upgrade has revealed a reborn motorcycle. It runs so much better with plenty of power at all revolutions, stable idling and in every which way a major improvement. For the record, I have no economic relation to any of the mentioned products.
Well done. Clear and concise tutorial. Thank you.
Quick question ...approx how much horsepower increase from the original 78bhp do you think you gained???
Just ordered a tune from them! Excited to see the changes to my speedmaster.
Hope it did the trick!
I rode a stock Speedmaster with this upgrade. Clean fuelling with no fluffing or backfiring. The most astonishing thing was the fuel economy. Over 650 miles in Massachusetts and Vermont of mixed riding I got an average of 83 mpg (UK gallons) and one one day over 90. This was from the bike’s gauge and backed up by measuring the fuel and mileage from the other bikes. Utterly staggering! How was yours?
Excellent. Subscribed.
Look forward to hearing the results!! Where did you purchase the ecu map from? I assume in increasing performance that you will see a loss in fuel economy. But I think more smiles are better than more miles. Keep us updated
The map is from DNK Tuneworks, and I must say that I am impressed with the result. It’s a totally different riding experience. There’s plenty of power throughout the entire rev-range and the near stalling at idle is gone. More smiles as you say 😊
@@wheelsdk8935 that's awesome to hear! Trouble at idle? Was this after your mods? I only have the Vance and hines (us) but no xpipe or booster My biggest compliant is the hesitation and jerk on throttle during first.. Hard to keep smooth in the city without heavy clutch/friction zone work. But I always find more than enough throttle response through most of the midrange..
The improvement is through the entire rev-range, and especially at low rev / urban cruising. It responds immediately and provides power all the way from the bottom. The factory map was very lean at idle and low revs with a tendency towards stalling. This is totally changed for the better now.
Hi can I ask a question please.
First of all nice clear video....well explained....
Your bike looks stunning and sounds great...I have a 2020 T100 that I bought new.
I recently installed TuneEcu on to my Samsung Phone....all working great....but only today I have started to get my head around the app for the first time.
I cant see me getting involved with re-mapping but only simple stuff.
But there are a few things about the ECU display I dont understand....in your vid at around 9m 20secs when you start you bike after re programming....if the left clock display on starting there are 3 colored bands around the outer scale of as I say the left display clock....what info do they give.
I have also seen a similar display but I think it was Blue Yellow...may blue green....again any ideas.
Nick from the UK.
After 4 months you should have fair idea of the results of the new tune. Will you consider sharing ??
I am still satisfied with the tune. Great throttle response, a very slight stumbling during idle, but nothing compared to stock. I would still do the conversion - absolutely woth it.
I just purchased a red 2022 Speedmaster, traded in my T-100. Speedmaster coming next week. So excited for this machine ! I already have a TEC Bike X pipe for it.
Questions, 1. Where fo you locate the ECU type ? 2. Can you read and save the original Factory programming so you can re-write it back to the programming setup when the bike was new ?
You access it via the OBD socket and upload the new map.
@@wheelsdk8935 I was wondering the same thing as the guy above, does that software give you the option to save the original map before you do any reprogramming?
Can’t say I am hearing much difference in the v and h exhaust compared to stock
I could be mistaken but your TPS is abit out of spec. Read 0.69. The book says 0.60 is best. Maybe different for your bonny.
Hi guys im having trouble getting the license i need help im already registered the tuneecu but i i dont know how to get the license
The ECU controls air-fuel mixture, timing but does it control detonation ?
I have the latest version of tune ecu. Same obdlink and an official map. My bike and tune ecu account are both registered but when i put up the map on the app and hit the ecu button there is no reprogramming option.
Would the new map negate the need for the Booster Plug, correcting that lean condition? Or, is there a map, or region of correction within a map, that would do what the BP does?
will it only work on Android endpoints or can I connect via BT with my Windows 11 Laptop (as I have no Android Tablet) - cheers
Does this work for a T214 or 2015 EFI older models?
Is there any chance to make video with screens of AFR and Throttle positions for rain and road please of your map?
Hello
If i can turn off my T120 main headlight,i still need to remove the main headlight fuse first?
Thank you~
I would consult a manual or an expert on this.
Is it possible in 2018 t120? What would be the output bhp?
You would have to ask the supplier for this. DNK Tuneworks might be able to answer (I have no business relation to any ECU remapping company).
Does doing any of these things void any warranty?
My motorcycle is beyond the 24 month warranty period from Triumph. I would suggest that you ask your dealer if you are in doubt.
@@wheelsdk8935 thanks buddy! Picking my 2020 Speedmaster up in two weeks! Brand new out of crate! Excited!
Congratulations, it is a really nice bike 👍😊
