  • How to Breakaway Like McDavid - The McDavid Breakaway Formula
Does McDavid have a formula for breakaways? As soon as you see it once, you’ll never be able to unsee it.
His pattern gives him a mathematical advantage every time his team regroups because he is an option 2, 3, or 4 times.
Combine this mathematical advantage with his Magic Mechanics - and you get a…
    You know the deal.

Not looking to hate, but this is just hockey. Keeping passing lane open, being an option for your teammates... I know there are players who don't do this, but I think at the NHL level, a lot are. McDavid is simply faster than his competition in most cases, and the crossover technique is more the reason vs some mysterious serpentine route he takes as he's waiting for a good pass.

Eric Levine that's why nhlers are so good, not only are they good with skills but they know the game. I've met kids who are dust but they understand the game and know what to do, that's all hockey is.

Yes, he is faster than everyone else in most cases. That said, he should be a wing. Center position is not to be high. They are the QB in hockey. They set up the play, not fly out past the D. Look at the neutral zone turn over. He is way out of position.

Nah some NHL players do it but most stop the start instead of swoop or they don’t even swoop in the right spot

This is great, playing as Center doing this is exactly why they can't win.

Yea not to be a dick here, but that's not a formula. That's just good hockey. You're supposed to take lanes that get you open. Secondly, you're always a passing option, it's just how relevant to the play are you. At any point in a swing route you're open for a pass, it's just a matter of swinging in such a manner that advances the play. There isn't a formula to it, it's called swinging for a flat pass and continuing up ice in an open lane.

One thing to know about this is that it absolutely works if you’re playing with NHL level defenseman, taking off at full speed is great when you have talented guys who can feed you, but if you’re playing pick up hockey, chances are you’re just sprinting your way out of the play

Hey man, great vid, a suggestion though…. Had a hard time hearing you, especially towards the end. Maybe turn the music down quite a bit. It’s a little distracting from what you’re trying to say. Just my two cents.

scored on a breakaway for the first time in a long time. it wasn't because of this though. I was looking for this pattern but the team must conform to this strategy. its difficult to be able to read the play for the perfect timing.

michael kelemen The specific pattern is less important than the mindset and the math. It seems like you modelled if perfectly!
