Attacked by Reef Sharks in Bahamas

- After spearing 4 large snapper and placing them in a catch bag we noticed we had followers. Once we realized they were getting more aggressive we started swimming towards shore. About halfway there we look back and see the two largest ones (appx 6 ft +) charging at me carrying the bag of fish. Needless to say I wasn't going to get between them and dinner. After letting go of the bag of fish the camera cut out I got attacked by the other shark. It went after my leg and i lifted it just in time to avoid it's mouth. Close call! Going to be a little smarter about how I carry fish from now on.
Please at least try to keep the camera still while you are filming being mauled

@@-Wreckanize- I feel bad that you have to bring politics into everything that comes to your mind. Politics suck and for someone like you who has it constantly on their mind explains why you suck
People in the comments act like they would perfectly handle 2 sharks swimming at them
Don't put your legs at it's mouth, use your spear tip with a light jab when it's coming too close... when you're stuck like this you've gotta be smart or lucky like these guys
i like all the comments "dont swim away, you look like a prey" ... easy to type that on a keyboard, but in real ...
Ariadalf you only get one chance mate
Some people spearfish too ya'know...
Zane Cosgrove you're dumb dude. He clearly knows that. You need to use your brain and fucking think. He's saying that all these dumbasses on their keyboards are naive and are acting all tough and nonchalant about if they were in that situation. Yet 99% of them have never even gone snorkeling, have no idea how they would react under pressure and they want to criticise a dudes actions in that situation. Those 99% of these people would be screaming and flailing if they were in that situation. Very few people can keep their calm when in imminent danger. Instincts take over. Logic goes out of the window.
Grow some fucking self awareness and think.
You lived and learned but let me point out the obvious. We have an amazingly large shark population in The Bahamas. Spearing fish you're bound to attract them but to carry a catch bag is only ringing the dinner bell. Spear one, put it in the boat and if the water gets sharky move locations.
@O.G Autistler man anytime you get the vibration of fish on the spear, blood in the water etc you will be having a gathering of sharks intent on your kill. Thus "sharky".
Or better still, stop shooting spears through animals and just enjoy their beauty.
@@mehitabel1290 I can enjoy their beauty and taste but thanks for the idea.
@@Bahamascott68 If you eat them, that's not so bad. But presumably they die slowly and unpleasantly. I still don't understand how anyone could consider that "sport".
@@mehitabel1290 With some invasive species like lionfish, it is necessary. But I agree, spearfishing is pretty cruel.
He didn't want you, he wanted (and got) your bag of fish. These sharks were smart and got what they were looking for, furthermore they recognized you as non threatening tourists due to your obviously rented fins/gear.
Hahahaha!!!
Underrated comment!

LOLLLS
Ahahahahahahaaaaa
There comes a time when it's a good idea to just let the shark have the damn fish. If you get into an argument with a shark, and the two of you are in the water; the shark has more bargaining power than you do. Honestly, I am glad you came out of that okay.
I fought a shark in a car park once. I won.
It’s never a good idea to give the shark your fish. That’s part of the reason sharks in the Bahamas are so intrusive and aggressive. They’ve begun to associate humans and boats with food.
I’ll be damned if I ever back down to a water dweller. They must know their place on the food chain!
Its a blacktip. Its rare they attack humans.
Something must have triggered them. Dont know what was inside the bag. Seems like he was interested in the bag, not the people. In phi phi islands in thailand ive seen reef sharks as well. Never that any of those attacked any people.
This is why I bring a sword when I go diving
I take a bang stick

Plenty of fatalities in the Bahamas over the years from Shark attacks, particularly from white tips and tiger sharks, you’re taking serious chances holding that bag of near chum and being out that far, anyone doing such things ought to be counting their blessings..
Fatal attacks from whitetips? I seriously doubt that. Maybe you meant bulls.
@@jmont8943
oceanic white tips are bigger A hole than Bull shark
@@jirachi-wishmaker9242 They are, but they're not really seen in the Bahamas, especially in shallower water. I was referring to Whitetip reef sharks, which are basically as harmless as Nurse sharks. I doubt there's been "plenty of fatalities" from Whitetip reef sharks, in fact there's probably been almost none. The Bulls are the ones you have to watch out there, or the occasional Tiger.
Rumor has it he's still swimming away from the shark.
Flash lmfaoo
rumor has it that shark is sending him friend request on facebook

Some say these types of rumor has it jokes are old, stale and best left back in the 90's...

Mankind take shark fins.. PLOT TWIST... Shark takes mankind's fins!
WhatDeHell you are from Canada, aren't you. With all this political correctness BS
No , mankind
Dumb!
It took the bag with dead fish they just speared.. sharks are very scared and they don't come at you for no reason. If you spearfish, you're asking for it.
@@Tegneaufreak ...um, not true? Most sharks understand pointy sharp things are bad...
Idk if you have ever actually been spear fishing, but spears actually get sharks to run away from you if you stab them deep enough...
Shocking revelation, I know...it's almost like stab wounds actually hurt or something...
Either I have learned how to attract the largest gathering of shark experts in my comment section... or just trolls. Either way I thank you because I got a good laugh at these comments. Keep them coming!
The Krowels you actually did both
I've actually been in the ocean before...yeah I know, calm down. I can say with certainty those sharks just wanted a hug.
Everyone is a shark expert because they watched shark week.
Should have kept your eyes on them the whole time, those are pussy sharks, they cannot eat u. They may nibble on you a wee bit, but you would survive. So why did u take ur eyes off and why did u stop recording? Waste of a would be perfect clip this was
No - it's because you have silly fins ...
Why you afraid just pet him he is nice

Are you that fucking stupid, we're talking about a fucking SHARK, not a Sea Turtle, use your fucking brain mate
Moo Face Think you need to use your brain. Cause clearly the joke went right over your head.
Moo Face Are YOU “that fucking stupid” lol
Moo Face lmfao this kid thinks it’s serious lol
man keep your camera from moving....I can't see the shark...
Nature Documentaries: So in essence, sharks are misunderstood, are generally peaceful creatures, and are more afraid of you than you are of them.
Literally my entire UA-cam recommended:
How long did they follow you for before the one struck to snatch the fish?
when the tax collector in the grey suit comes, you gotta give’m some fish.
The guy laughs at first. That’s because in the Bahamas it’s extremely common to snorkel with sharks in site. Crazy, but really true!
2 visible mistakes - splashing around causing the shark to look at you as pray. Second - wearing yellow fins attracts sharks to taste them.
Really the big mistake was carrying a bag of bleeding fish. You don't ever want to have bleeding fish close too you for long in waters with healthy shark populations. This guy probably still had fish blood by his leg at that point. He's lucky he's not an amputee.
I have yellow fins. were you joking!
JINO'S FITNESS JOURNEY - Yes, he was joking. Its a well known fact, sharks only attack pink colored fins...
Yellow causes extra contrast - I avoid it.

Those sharks were thankfully after your bag of goodies. It must have been a life experience for you all. Bet you guys downed a few beers over this story hahaha
What was the yellow thing the shark took?
You know what most of these "shark attack" videos have in common?
They were spearfishing.
I've been to the Bahamas to scuba dive and was in the water with 10 reef sharks swimming around me as I was putting my fins on, they didn't attack me or even come close to me.
I still do not understand, the shark bit him or just stole something?
When we will see the prequel?
Problem one. Don't run and kick wildly. It makes you look like prey. Problem two. Hold your ground if you're going to try to keep your catch. Problem three. Don't take your eyes off him. Sharks are opertunist. They are waiting for an opportunity to attack. Don't make it easy. Problem four, and this should be #one. Don't load up a bag of dead fish and keep it with you while you keep fishing. You'll attract sharks.
In the Bahamas you have to get your fish out of the water as quick as possible and move spots after shooting a few fish..
I carry my fish on my buoy and cover them with a large garbage bag and elastic. I stopped loosing fish to sharks when I started doing that. You should try it.
Sharks: It's a prank bro.
Was it a blacktop shark ?
Once had two blacktip reef sharks swim beneath me when scuba diving at a reef. I didn't panic (thank God) and they just minded their own business. Thinking about it, it was probably one of the most beautiful experiences I've had in nature seeing those two calmly gliding by
Same here. I just swam with four (even though quite small black tip shark) while scuba diving one of the best experience in my life
God was like "hey i let babies being raped but this guy can't panic while swimming with sharks!"

Protect your catch, dude... and learn how to spearfish safely
Shiz got real when the second shark entered the fighting ring. Lmao
when we dive in south florida, we call anything Yellow, YUM YUM YELLOW. sharks loovee yellow. notice how their eyes are fixed on your wavey little yellow flippers and yellow fish bag. youre a much braver man than me lolol
*How to play fishy , and gather the interest of nearby sharks* Is what the title should have been!
They just want to be friends. 🤣🤣🤣
Did he steal the entire bag of fish?
im sorry I dont know if im wrong so correct me please if I am but wouldnt it be foolish to race towards the water surface instead of facing the shark until it passed you to come back around then go for air and come back down and observe/ keep distance
Where the part where they get “attacked”?
That is wonderful footage! I swim with sharks here in Florida. You should definitely change out your fins. No bright colors. It's like shark catnip and gets them curious. I almost learned this the hard way swimming with bull sharks. About pissed myself. Haha. Also if you are spearing pull a raft around with you to throw the fish in. It will keep that blood outta the water. Cheers.
Yum, yum yellow😂
attacked? more like robbed xD
Whenever I go in the water I always periodically scan the area and stay close to the boat.
Are they dead?
I don’t like the taste of fish enough to not share with a shark while I’m at his house.
“Yeah that’s my pet shark, he’s still a baby, don’t worry, he don’t bite”
He must have gone back swim fishing around the sharks with a different outcome, he hasn't posted a new video in over 4 years now.
Ar you guys ok????
Morreu?
Shark gets extremely close
Dude recording: "lets come back up to the surface and end any chance i have of survival"
Did you shoot it with a machine gun at the end?
wow nice experience :D Everybody are alright after that??
I went night diving a few times on the great barrier reef and these were everywhere! Some of them were so friendly that they didnt seem to mind being stroked
Steve Owens different story when you are holding a bag full of bloody fish.
Who pulled the machine gun at the end of the video?
those bright yellow tip flippers thrashing around obviously looks like a fish...
What on Earth possesses people to swim in waters where these big bitey things live?
Good job to the guy who pulled out the machine gun at the end
The disturbance in the surface provoked the attark. It probably looked like you were panicking
Z Cross because they were lmao
Or maybe the bag of dead fish.. look closely.
Yeah, it’s a tough choice about the fish; balancing the ease of carrying them with clever nip avoidance when the shark gets your bag.
I finally settled on towing a small Ocean Kayak to toss fish and lobsters into when I catch them.
It’s also because, as I get older, I’m sometimes overcome by the need to take an emergency nap while younger divers stay at it.
Saw a black tip while on a snorkling tour with a bunch of others in key west. It never came over to bother us but it did seem curious. That's the second time I ended up swimming with a shark and I felt no fear opposed to another beach that I accidently touched this lemon in murky water. Shit gave me a heart attack
joke on the subject.
A young shark asks an old one: Why make circles before attacking? The old one replies: they taste better without the shit.
It´s ok to know where they they are while you go away from them while you don´t move fast, I know is really scary but if you get away from them really fast they are going to relate the waves you make with their preys so they are going to attack you
Wow the camera guy literally missed everything. What a sucky job.
I'M KIDDING!! That must have been extremely scary!!
So close to take your legs , some people think this a joke once you meet one in person
someone got the m60 loaded at the end
just glad you’re safe, & people can be haters
first the guy laugh and then he screams
he's just dumb
"My house...my food."
Ha! Paying taxes the natural way. Glad you guys are ok! I’m a Divemaster in Puerto Rico and that would have given me a stroke!
You know you're supposed to stay calm when they get close too right?
No one has ever been killed by a reef shark but they do attack quite often, they think it’s because they are very territorial.
This is why we invented the fishing rod.
Reading here I love these comments by armchair specialist know-it-alls.
Bright colors and contrasts attract sharks. Whenever I see woman in the ocean in yellow or orange, I think to myself, this is great because the sharks will go for them first lol I saw the yellow tips on your fins and thought, oh hes gonna check them out
Tell me how desiigner gotta feature at the end😂😂
Shark: it's not like I want to eat you baka
I always advise to take a knife as equipment, in 99% of your dives you might not need to use it, but if you eventually need, it will be there ready for use. Specially if there are bull sharks and oceanic white tips in the area
Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
'Cause I'm the taxman
Yeah, I'm the taxman
“We’re gonna need a bigger…” oh wait we don’t have one
Going to the hood at 3 am be like
Morale of the story: you can’t pay a shark not to rob
So the shark got something lol} What was he swimming off with?
Never swim away from a shark, it is faster. In case of an agressive shark you must attack him with the spear and keep swiming slow to the shore without screaming. The fish must be carried in a net or rope tied to a free diving buoy
Daanng!
Or you could just poke him in the nose with a stick
I ran by one today by the coast of Cozumel
How to get eaten by a shark 101
See how smart they are…. It went right for the bag of fish and not the people.
Legend says that sponge bob is the on who posted this video on UA-cam
Shark attacked you because of your sorry ass scuba fins with a slit in the middle ;))
Alex Pavlov don’t forget the bodyboarding fins
The animal lovers/people haters would say he was just trying to play, and you were never in any danger.
So did the machine gun fire get the shark?
Heart rate just went up to 200
watching other shark petting youtube video and say to real scuba diver"Why you run? they loves people, just pet them gently"
Case study in how NOT to deal with predators while spearfishing.
Turned your back on the shark - CHECK
Gave up your catch - CHECK
Panicked and fled - CHECK
Only mistakes you left out were blacking out and crapping your shorts.
if it's your life on the line i'm pretty sure giving up your catch is the lesser evil
Sharks reacts to noise , splashes of water , and some fresh blood smell ( they can sense the blood miles away,we all know that )
1. Don't get so aggitated while being near a shark . try to relax and make as little noise you can. They can sense vibrations .
2. Throw that damn baggie , better lose a bag of fish instead of 2 pounds of your flash.
3.That fins are the worst color ever to dive near sharks. The tip of the fin combined with the position of your bag and the smell of speared fish , made that shark going nuts . i'm glad it didn,'t go worse .
It's like running away from a lion with a bag of meat. You kinda triggered his instincts of hunting , perfectly. But again ,those are sharks. They can always surprise you.
This is why they need a waterproof mini uzi
Is he ok 👌
Shark basically like wild dogs except they don’t bark
If that were me, the sharks would’ve swam the other way with amount of human waste that would’ve been floating in the water.
