- This clip with John Eden shows the baking and transfer of the final Reel 4 of the 2" 24 track masters of Status Quo's Rockin' All Over The World. Also documented is the tape shedding issue that occurred on Dirty Water.
Great! really interesting to see how sensitive these reels can be! I have your remix of the 'rocking all over the world' album on vinyl and it just sounds amazing. Was there ever discussion of remixing more albums? In my opinion, 'Never too Late' would be one which could do with some remixing. :)
Thanks Nicolas I'm glad you like the remix. Its never come up from either management or Universal about doing other albums. I'd love to do more if asked.
I tried putting my cd of rocking all over the world in the oven on gas mark 5 175 degrees overnight...but in the morning I just had a blob of plastic... temperature too high?
Could the tapes have been baked a second time to help deal with the issue experienced on dirty water?
Yes I did and that also helped
Could you tell me when tape stopped being used for recording John?
Well its still be used in some studios but the choice stock wise is limited and as most of the plants closed down. I'd say '92 was the start of the transition to early DAW.
Where were these reels found? Were they actually lost, or just needed locating in some record company's warehouse?
Francis had them stored at his home. David Walker had given them to him years earlier.
@@johneden-producer4614 Does happen a lot with the tapes? I've often wondered who actually 'owns' them?
@@timmatthews773 The majority of Quo's catalogue sits in the Universal archives, except from the PYE era recordings which are owned by BMG. Both companies, respectively, took over companies Quo were previously signed to.
Francis ended up with a few tapes in his home studio, at some point, and most of which have been digitised.
