I have been to Gettysburg three times in my 60 years. Each time is just as fascinating as the first time when I was about 12 years old. These videos from The History Underground spark my interest all over again and I'll have to visit these museums that are featured. Not too far away is the Antietam battlefield, which I have yet to visit.

I will be going to Erica museum for sure. I saw this episode just as I got home from work this morning and I am nightshift in law enforcement and I had to stay up and watch this first. Unbelieveable!!!
Being a Civil War reenactor, I appreciate the historic and educational aspect of relics. One, in particular, that I never considered, was the bayonet that was rounded to help drag the dead into the graves. Some think it may be a little morbid, but I really love the fact that it was included. It's as aspect of the war that wasn't glamourized like some parts of the battle. But a very real part of war. Thank you for going as in-depth as you do! Wonderful channel!
Absolutely! I have strangely pondered how they moved the bodies almost every time I hear how many died on that battlefield and how long it took to bury all the dead.
That's one of the things we usually don't think of, the clean-up after the battle. An officer in Custer's Michigan Cavalry Brigade wrote years after the war that for him the worst part of a battle was after it was over, looking at all the carnage. He said even the horses were spooked by what they saw. A great quote from the Duke of Welington: "Next to a battle lost the saddest sight is a battle won."
Hey! Teach! I pray to be standing where you are some day. This place screams education and fascination. For good or bad, history must be acknowledged and maintained. Not knocked down and erased.

I have an Enfield which was pulled from the battle of Gettysburg. It has the individuals name and I found a picture of him as well. It’s still able to shoot, which my wife and I do occasionally. I love Gettysburg and it’s amazing history

The history. The south or confederacy was the first anti American,anti Democracy and anti Constitutional movement in US History. The confederacy took on the USA and lost. There ya go... Then trump lost. See the pattern?

I did the 150th anniversary. All I can say is wow. My head was on a swivel constantly. They said over the 3 days, there were more than 4 million visitors. Very interesting place.

Mate, you should be so proud of what you're achieving with your channel, one of the best in my opinion. Hopefully I'll get back to Gettysburg one day, I missed so much when I was there 6 years ago, this series is really opening my eyes to that.

I visited Gettysburg with my family years ago. I felt a heaviness of pain, anguish and suffering in the air the whole time. Even to the point of sensing death or such. I've talked to many since and they felt the same thing. Almost like the ghosts of the dead were saying "Hey, we are still here"...
I work at a Habitat for Humanity Restore and we get antiques in the store all the time. I will keep an eye out for those things. Also, the name of Chamberlain's successor was Ellis Spear. I am a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War so I'm loving these videos.

Wow, this just blows me away. So many artifacts from the battle and it's aftermath in one amazing museum. The bayonet that was converted to a body hook, reminds us that war is a grisly business, and the dead needed to be buried.
Erik is definitely living a life surrounded by history. Some would say "geeky" I'm in awe at his dedication to this as you are. I need another trip down there to enjoy some more of what Gettysburg has to show me. Small museum, private personal museum. I hope item like these continue in such a way as the real stories won't be lost or rewritten as so much history is today in this political climate. GREAT bunch of relics from such an important war. A tribute to the men who died to bring liberty and freedom to ALL. Wish all American appreciated the sacrifice 2021.
Amazing. As an eleven year old kid in 1967 I visited Gettysburg with my family. The main thing I remembered was the two bullets that not only collided but stuck to each other. I'm called I saw this again. Wow!!

Lincoln's wallet .....wow that is amazing. To have something so tangible that he carried and used daily is absolutely amazing. Thus Gettysburg series is just awesome its always been my favorite time period as a kid and as an adult I'm still completely fascinated by it. Thank you JD love your channel brother
I like the story Bruce Catton wrote down in 'Glory Road' about a citizen of Gettysburg that somehow slipped into Meade's HQ farmhouse and had the gall to complain to Meade personally about compensation for his damaged property and ruined crops. It was during the height of the 2nd day of the battle and Meade totally lost it on the unfortunate civilian in a blistering reply. He basically told the civilian if the battle was lost there wouldn't be any compensation-or government and country for that matter. Meade then told the man he'd better not hear any more complaining or Meade would personally see to it that the man was given a rifle and put in the thick of the fighting. No more complaining from the civilian. I love me some Meade.
Over the past 4 years often traveling to Gettysburg, one of my “have to visit” places is the museum. Erik is a gracious host, happy to tell a story or just leave you be to explore. The collection is beyond amazing. From the American Civil War up to Vietnam , there’s just so much to take in. I have not visited in a while bc of the late unfortunateness. My Great Aunt lived in Dallas back in the sixties. She had lots of stories about her grandfather who was a Captain in the War between the States. She just never felt she had to mention that he was a Union Captain. She was a Great Southern Lady. And rich without letting people know. She could, at the drop of a hat diss someone with vulgarity that burned my ears. What a wonderful Lady!
This is one of the coolest museums I have ever seen on UA-cam. I have got to get to PA and go visit Gettysburg. Having been to Shiloh multiple times, I can’t get enough of this history. It’s wild that such famous artifacts such as Lincoln’s wallet, is inches in front of you. Just surreal. Great work man! I love each and every one of these videos!

Have you done Phippi wv? It's the first land battle of civil war. The museum has the drum played at the battle also played at the surrender. The only cover bridge on a federal highway stood that day and still used daily. The county seat is also the 2nx largest cut stone building in the world. 2nd only to the Kremlin in Russia. Site of the fist amputee. It's really quite interesting

WWII Museum in Eldred, PA. There's a human skin lamp there...........and Mitchell Paige's MoH for basically saving Austrailia. No big deal. The Director there is an ex-SF Veteran and WWII nut.
I have long been fascinated by the Civil War and especially Gettysburg. I once went to Gettysburg with my high school class for a history assignment. After the tour we had some free time and I wandered by myself out into a field and just stood there. All sounds (cars, birds, etc.) disappeared. I then heard gunfire, cannons going off, screams of wounded men and smelled gun smoke. This lasted 5 minutes or so. Then it was gone. I never told any of my classmates or anyone else about it till many years later. I would love to go back and revisit the battlefield and see the museum. Thank you for your amazing videos and thank you for your love of history.
I wonder, where are some of the thousands of saddles with Union or Confederate markings ? There had to be so many. There wasn't any military markings on this one either.
Great place. I met Erik about 11 years ago in a bar in town. He had just moved back from CA I believe and didn’t have this place yet…not sure though. Nice guy though. As for the musket it could have been a bad cap and in the heat of battle the soldier hadn’t realized the rifle didn’t go off. There were muskets found during the war with multiple rounds loaded that never went off…the shooter thinking it had

The only cover bridge on a federal highway stood that day and still used daily. The county seat is also the 2nx largest cut stone building in the world. 2nd only to the Kremlin in Russia. Site of the fist amputee. It's really quite interesting

WWII Museum in Eldred, PA. There's a human skin lamp there...........and Mitchell Paige's MoH for basically saving Austrailia. No big deal. The Director there is an ex-SF Veteran and WWII nut.

I have long been fascinated by the Civil War and especially Gettysburg. I once went to Gettysburg with my high school class for a history assignment. After the tour we had some free time and I wandered by myself out into a field and just stood there. All sounds (cars, birds, etc.) disappeared. I then heard gunfire, cannons going off, screams of wounded men and smelled gun smoke. This lasted 5 minutes or so. Then it was gone. I never told any of my classmates or anyone else about it till many years later. I would love to go back and revisit the battlefield and see the museum. Thank you for your amazing videos and thank you for your love of history.
I wonder, where are some of the thousands of saddles with Union or Confederate markings ? There had to be so many. There wasn't any military markings on this one either.

Great place. I met Erik about 11 years ago in a bar in town. He had just moved back from CA I believe and didn’t have this place yet…not sure though. Nice guy though. As for the musket it could have been a bad cap and in the heat of battle the soldier hadn’t realized the rifle didn’t go off. There were muskets found during the war with multiple rounds loaded that never went off…the shooter thinking it had
