India needs to swallow the bitter pill and get 35 F35 5th gen fighters from USA another 60 rafaels for airforce + 30 navy variants in the next 10 years. The sleepy louches at HAL will take another 25 years to roll out Tejas & AMCA for all we know. I had visited for the first in 1990 as a 17 year old, travelling from our home base in Ambala Cantt to AFS Hashimara as my dad’s last posting before retirement was with the IAF as GLO. This was my reward trip as i had passed 9th standard on my second attempt. The second and last time was in 1992, with my elder brother, this time from our home base in Bangalore, as we had 1 month Dussehra holidays. By far a very beautiful location and there were WW-II hangars with a few vintage planes. Unfortunately no photos were taken as we were staying inside the AF Base, always. But beautiful memories staying in and also visiting the nearby places and watching the exercises.

In a potential war scenario, facing attacks on multiple fronts is a real possibility. Do we have a sufficient number of fighter jets to counter such a situation? India needs to prioritize substantial investments in developing indigenous programs, manufacturing advanced jet engines, creating testbeds for fighter aircraft, and enhancing weapon systems...
Having another fighter squadron alongside transport squadron currently stationed like former No20 wing of No8 squadron which operated MiG-21 FL which was stationed at Bagdogra until 2010 will be better in strengthening border security in chicken neck corridor instead of relying on aircrafts from hasimara to arrive if any skirmish happens in Siliguri and its southern areas towards rest of mainland.
