zeri-she was broken but she wasnt super tanky oneshoter and other staff THIS CHAMP WAS FIXABLE

and finally really a fk good design is fk SETT cuz if you have at least few brain cells and you are better then enemy you can outplay him or as sett you can do a lot of staff while having NORMAL abilities that dont make enemy do random shit like renata ult or fk passive from viego or other staff(yea ik his W deals insane amount of dmg but that is because a lot of champions are fk sooooooo broken and getting buffed for no reason that something like sett IS BROKEN but you cant see it because other shit just is on anouther lvl)
btw viego have an okay design with his basic abilities and ult but being able to change to any champion is just stupid extremely stupid

Technically with the(lack of) pillory it’s more like a piece of equipment min maxing your stats. Pillory on? Cha wis int increased by 8. Pillory of? All stats reduce to 0, strength increases by 3x

Id argue that Kled also falls under the berserker archetype. Theres no canceling your ultimate, you are going to the end and if you lock on to a champion, you are going to hit that champion no matter the danger. Then, once you take enough damage to fall off of Skarl you are basically forced to keep fighting to get Skarls courage back or die trying, as you are too slow to run away from enemies with any reliability. Sure youve technically got the self knockback from your pistol, but even then you are encouraged to get right into an enemies face with it to hit as many pellets as possible.

Warwick is a berserker too. Any WW main can tell you the unspoken rule: if you smell a target below 25% HP, you have no choice but to ult them from 2 screens away.

see issue is, her laning is complete and utter dogshit. Her early game is, shockingly enough, kinda dog without items. Every trade she takes is losing, her W ends up getting her killed most of the time, additionally her E is clunky as shit to hit and you're gonna end up inting

I think she's early game just like Olaf or WW
With 0 base health regen, she'll be poked out of top lane, all it takes is someone to use abilities well to force her further and further back, making it so she has to all in to gain lane control. Someone like mundo can poke with q and e, olaf with q, etc. etc. Ranged champions will obviously make her life hell until she engages so yeah she can be a counter pick, but then it becomes either a skill match up, or a wait until jungler arrives to win the lane match up
I LOVE the design and abilities, a self berserking champion with lifesteal is what I’ve been saying Olaf should have been ever since I found him years ago, I just hate how she can’t be played in lane because of just how low her sustain outside of lifesteal is. If any champ will push me to learn jg it’s her.
Jgl is super fun m8, if you want a really fun champ, for up to plat elo, that's relatively easy to learn, try Vi.
People are sleeping on her cuz she isn't really that good in diamond+.

A lot of the time it's just getting the first path down and then taking whatever comes up (and is safe) afterwards. The experience is indispensable though even if you go back to lane you'll be predicting the enemy jungler's movements and map placement and know how to ward against their ganks even better
then play master Yi. he and trynda both buy squishy adc items, farm up and then outduel anyone later on. just farm until level 6 and then kill people it's just like tryndamere but you don't have have to lane against anyone. post 14 minutes you can splitpush too as long as no dragons or barons are up.
Her Ult also alerts everyone in range so if you suspect that it's going towards you, you can easily move

I made the mistake of trying to challenge the top lane briar with duskblade by letting her hit an ulty under tower and trying to use Varus E to apply grievous and hit an ulty, but her q stunning immediately after letting her get her full combo in less than a 2 seconds makes her have zero counter play for ADC's you need someone with hard cc to deal with her. Shes a global master yi with a stun.
I managed to play her for a while in PBE. Her kit is VERY strong, but the huge problem is that she is actually very weak currently but while also being very stat checky. Her base stats are atrocious, like pre-6 Kayle level bad. The problem arises if she gets fed, which is more likely to happen as a jungle than a laner. If Briar is behind, her base stats make her feel so much weaker than literally anybody else, but if she manages to get ahead she stat checks everyone one-sidedly into oblivion extremely hard. It's feast or famine in a Kayle-level of intensity where she either is useless or 1 v 9's due to the discrepancy between horrific base numbers and how absurdly strong her kit is. She really is going to bounce 55% and 45% WR's back and forth since it varies based simply on if her base stats are buffed or not in a given patch.
I mean isnt the point of her boosted stats to statcheck you? just that she has no other option than go in

I like how this champion (mostly) doesn’t feel overly designed. Akshan is the best example of this in recent years, but a lot of new champions feel designed to play perfectly in LoL in 202X without anything special going on, making them all feel weirdly samey. They’re jam packed with QOL passives and stuff that makes the champion “just work” whereas with briar they actually seemed to make a reasonably janky character with drawbacks.
Lmao Akshan. The dude has invisibility, a get away/ all in while hittinh mechanic. Double auto that hit extra hard. Can revive a team mate instantly and ia tanky despite being adc

@@lok4890 no, you're simply wrong. Adc is short for "Attack Damage Carry." There's no difference between adc and Marksmen, they litterally made it up so people unfamiliar to mobas might understand the goals of the adc. There's a reason mid used to be called the Apc.
Except for a bit of number changes, I think her kit is fine and very suited for her lore. Can’t wait to play her
The R impact damage being AoE might be a bit too pushy, but on the other hand, if they ever want to actually do something with her AP ratios (useless text box filler ATM), they absolutely need to give her P heal and W AP ratios, too. Her body numbers are actually surprisingly bad, but it fits with the berserk buffs and I have to say that her kit is really interesting, when compared to other recent releases (Renata was great, too).
Steroid R that deals fuck ton of AoE dmg and has guaranteed CC is not balanced at all.

For self inflicted cc, champ who create terrain can technically knockback themselves, bard can stasis himself.
And stasis is technically a hard cc
By that logic, every champ can hard CC themselfes with Zhonias/Stopwatch.
Here we are 2 months later and we are on nerf 5 and she still has a 54% win rate

Great video as usual Vars, but i'd like to make a suggestion. I think you should make a video about boots, going through the history of the item and how it changed so much through the years, why does it have to be in almost every single game, etc. I think this item is great designed and also an iconic mechanic in the game, really worth to get a video just for itself.

Something I find interesting about her passive and the lack of health regen is that it's actually relevant for items, too. Take Heartsteel for example, it has +200% Base Health Regen... which on Briar is 200% of 0, so you still don't regen any health from it. Any items with health regen do nothing for her (at least in that context), it has to be an actual healing passive like a Warmog's when over the bonus health threshold.
If I'm not mistaken, this is unique to her? Both Vlad and Zac have a base health regen, so they can still build regen items to have some (slow) sustain without entering combat. Briar is the only one in the game with an actual 0 for that value.

Odd take that E doesn't count as a disengage because enemies can get out of it, if it forces them out of your immediate area isn't that usually fairly effective for disengaging?
I think briar is actually quite fun charging into the enemy team and trying to heal as much as you can so you dont die. It kind of feels like rhaast
I’m hyped, might actually get back into league to pick up briar. A true blue ride or die champion from the jungle seems like a ton of fun.
she seems fun for about 50% of games, but if this champ falls behind noone on your team is having fun playing with you

I have a feeling that she'll be completely busted initially, but then in a matter of few weeks people will learn how to play around her, and she'll be forgotten. Her main damage source is technically out of your control, which prevents the likes of Yorick, Illaoi, Urgot, Azir, etc. from being popular.
I hope this doesn't age well, because I'm such a huge fan of her abilities. She seems so much fun.
seems like she will have a similar status as tryndamere: mostly unplayed by the general fanbase, but with a few dedicated mains who can carry games
I don't know your server and elo, but Yorick and Illaoi are unfortunately too popular in my soloQ games and are possibly, along with Teemo, the top laners that make lose my mind the most when picked either by my team or by my opponent. I'm not counting crit champions that start with the letter Y, though.

illaoi, yorick, and urgot curb stomp everyone in lower elos, I cant go 10 games without facing one of them, and azir has been a mainstay in professional play forever.
Azir doesn't have anything on his kit that's out of his control, soldier placement and repositioning is his bread and butter, it's not like Illaoi tentacles that spawn randomly or Yorick ghouls with sometimes wonky AI
That's kind of the impression I get is she'll either be turbo broken or giga useless, no in between. I worry that one small change will completely break this champ
She's the ultimate feast or famine champ, if Yasuo and Katarina are either 0/10 or 10/10, Briar is 0/30 or 30/0

My only gripe is that for a global ult, they gave the enemy a notification that she ulted while she channels it. Its already a difficult Ult to hit, and no other global Ult like Ashe’s Arrow, Jinx Rocket, or even Vex’s Ult which Brair’s is inspired by gives a notification on when they fire it.
For a skill shot that is meant to “instill fear”, giving an indication of it coming doesn’t actually fit that description
It's not that hard to hit it, you won't hit it each time but lanes are straight lines so in tf you won't really miss
Self induced CC is somewhat uncommon in League, but there are a lot of technical CCs and oddities
The main self CCs I can think of are:
Rumble silences himself at max heat
There’s Blitz W slow
Vi has a self slow on her Q
Kayle used to CC herself when casting ult, she was effectively disarmed and silenced.
You could count old (and to a lesser extent new) Neeko. With the self induced stun.
OrVi ult counting as a self knock up that an enemy Yasuo can ult off of
But some technical self CCs I can think of are:
Malzahar and Warwick suppression CCs themselves as well if you want to count them.
Kalista can technically CC herself and one of her teammates by black spearing them in a level 1 fight.
a lot of abilities self root when casting as well. Like most hooks, Gwen Q (her E is hardcoded to break this though), fiora parry, etc.
Master Yi also roots himself when he heals (W?). That fulfills Vars' definition of a "self activated CC", Xerath's ult also roots him in place now that I think about it.
Lee Sin sonic wave forces you into using resonation strike to follow up regardless of situation. It’s a mental CC placed on the player.
ngl i’ve gotten real cold with chilling scream timing. its perfect in the middle of a fight mid late game when they don’t see it coming and ive used it to knock people back when needing to escape and then W thru a wall and go around to catch them from behind

From my experience with her, the reason why her "no health regen" on her passive matters, is because this forces her to either be super aggressive to have reliable sustain, where sometimes this isn't possible if you play her "smart" to avoid ganks or range characters, making it so you have less access to minions, or having to periodically waste your E as a form of sustain... which if you get the timing wrong, can screw you royally should a forced encounter occur.
Her kit makes her great when she has any form of backup, but greatly reduces her options when she is alone or outnumbered. Great for a jungler and, under the right conditions, a good top lane partner, but not top lane solo.
Think my favorite part of Vars videos is I almost always recognize the music. Guess we have the same taste in games!

What makes Briar so broken isn't only her insane damage. Her E makes engaging on her impossible. Meaning she's super hard to punish unless she ints with her W
My favorite thing about Briar is that she has very clear and obvious weaknesses baked into her design.
The only trick is that Riot needs to make those weaknesses matter...

11:58, her W heals her for a huge chunk and her E gives her both damage resist and max% health healing. She can stall fights just fine.

I do like Briar because she feels like one of the few new champs that you can actually play around against.
You choose Briar, the enemy chooses rammus... You cry.
Your e does big magic damage and disengages you, its playable still into rammus. Graves is more of a problem for her imo she is squishy and his w makes you worthless for the duration
@@lostintheflurry During the frenzy she automatically focuses on the enemy, even if they are invisible or out of sight, as long as they are within range.
@@vicentesantiago2681 yes but you can change target with your Q stun or cancel W with E which does big magic damage to Rammus and shoves him off of you so you can get out, if he hits wall he's additionally stunned. its not that bad to vs. him. also he can't really invade you in your jungle cuz there are walls everywhere for him to smash into with your aforementioned E. graves on the other hand basically wrecks her especially early, she has a very low health pool and he burst/crits her while she's blinded and can't leach back.
@@lostintheflurry Guys, everything she can use against Rammus she can use against Graves, however, Rammus's defenses are much better and the blinding doesn't affect her. The only blinding that makes any difference to her is Teemo's.

Do you think that implementing enough anticarries with full support (runes, items) could balance the game?
My logic is if you have potential to heavily counter the whole team if they rely on burst, dashes/ diving you may just force the meta to more bapance and less frustrating state
She's insanely fun to play. Been also trying hwr out as support and every game is a clusterfuck and a love it

@@toobig7150 Her build in the splash art is not the biggest problem. It's her face and head. The proportions are of a child. The eyes are very big for the head size, and the squished head also looks like a child.
It's not the case for the cinematic and the in-game model.
And that's not even touching the feet in focus stuff.

Even then, whats wrong with that? i mean no offense, but she looks like a petite woman, bit young looking but thats it, and even then its fictional, if you ask me almost everyone (maybe not for illiaoi?) look young in the game, like no one goes beyond the 22-25 mark.
I really like her design and kit tbh. I'm not a jungle player, heck the only role I dont wanna play but when she got released I tried playing her in Jungle and I enjoyed it. I've been spamming her in solo q as a jungle player haha

@@aidangillard2041 Changes/additions/systems/abilities that are to the detriment of the game's balance but are fun to see in an environment with short games and no stakes.
"To the detriment of the game's balance" doesn't necessarily equal something being OP. What that means is the thing in question is conceptually unbalancable because it lacks a balance lever that could be adjusted. Briar is a perfect example of this since the entire character is designed around the idea of losing control of the champ, making her gameplay very unpredictable and inconsistent, in exchange for having a kit even more overloaded than K'sante's. It'll be fun seeing the chaos she brings to 4fun modes, but whoever came up with the idea of Briar, would get insta-failed in a uni game design class for it.

3:44 Sion stuns himself if you crash into a wall
Well by that logic if you dash into poppy's E you get stunned so also any dash is a self CC.
I'd guess then that the self CC is something you "control" and it's not reliant on external factors for its normal use. Yes, Sion stunts himself, but is hitting a wall its intended function/utility? No, it's a side effect.
Briar can miss ulti and not have anything near during w and no cc effect occurs (again, missing is not its intended function). But hitting a target sets off the cc, while with Sion it's a cc effect on the target long enough to chain a charged Q, even if you have a slight delay after contact to charge Q it's not a self CC in that circumstance.

the ability has the intrinsic fact that if you hit a wall you get CC'd
Also hitting a wall is part of its intended utility cause towers are walls

No idea if this has been stated before but Ziggs was the only champion who could self-apply hard crowd control, a knock-up from his W - Satchel Charge

I think it all depends on how well she can build tank items. Both Olaf and Mundo are best building Tank and Tryn or someone like Yi have invurability to make up for building full dmg.
I feel like Riot August is allowed to do whatever he wants because "He created Jhin surely whatever he does can't be bad right" And then we get Viego, Zeri and now Briar.

In a lobby with a Viego player only the Viego is having fun when he's ahead, everyone else has to suck it up.

with how short the range on it is i think its mostly a way to gapclose towards enemies (like a lee sin w) rather than disengange, it costs health and doesnt keep you out of danger if you are on frenzy

I like the design of briar cuz its something new without having a whole thesis to read on each ability + no actual stupid shit like revives or stealth but just a fuckton of damage

I really like Briar. In fact Nafiri and Briar are both very tame, but fun character designs, that don't go stupid OP, or have some weird insane gimmick that makes them a balance nightmare.
The more I think about this champ, the more she just becomes Shaltear from Overlord...I am pretty sure she is at leat somewhat inspired by her, even her ability is called bloodfrenzy.
Would building Warmog's on her give her passive healing; or does her passive stop any and all passive healing? Like Grasp or Second Wind?
Sion ultimate does self-inflict a 0.5s stun when crashing into terrain, so this isn't the only way to hard CC yourself
Aaaand looking at her PBE reception, to me it looks like she's the most beloved new champ release in ages. August might have pulled a Jhin with this one.
