The best part about this is that Arin can finally play a Zelda game that EVERYONE agrees is terrible.

I'll give this game this much: It and its CD-I kin were the last Zelda games to use that earthy, 80s fantasy art style. I wish Nintendo would release a Zelda game that invoked the art design of this or the first Zelda's instruction manual.

Of all the games Arin has gotten frustrated or angry at, I feel like this game deserves it the most.

5:35 isn't that a lantern there on the upper loft?? tbh, i didn't notice it until they'd been in the dark room, but the way the game presents it, it doesn't stand out all that much for an item.
Yea not only that, it doesn't even make any sense where it's placed.
LucidTUN3S exactly. it'd help if it was placed on a pedestal, or placed behind the moblins so you know they're guarding it rather than guarding the path that leads to it.
I also find it funny how the light casting in that house is literally 1 inch away from the lantern like they couldn't have just lighten that dark corner to help players see that its an item.
What were these developers thinking?
LucidTUN3S i'm pretty sure they weren't thinking LOL like, at least some of the backgrounds (like the grassy hills) aren't THAT bad, but then they ruined it by adding some impossible perspective (the stone wall) and badly-drawn character models.
Im super in two minds about the lantern situation.
I Look at it and the setting and i'm like, Yes I can totally see, Understand and appreciate that's not immediately obvious.
But I also looked at it and was like, "Oh there's a lantern." when I first saw it early in the episode.
So I can't be THAT hard to figure out y'know? I feel like with older games you had to kind of fill in the gaps a bit like that where developers just didn't understand some stuff.
I guess It comes down to I May have worked it out but maybe not everyone would and that's the bigger picture.
..That's my thoughts on the lantern situation that nobody asked for anyhow.

This game has always given me a warm cozy feeling inside. I watch these playthroughs when I've had a bad day to feel better
It says a lot about the cutscenes when it looks like something you'd see right after 12 oz mouse where the animators were just like "ehhhh fuck it! We've only got a week let's just make them move like they're inside a kaleidoscope!"
(Still better than anything I've ever made though, so who am I to judge?)

iirc the company hired animation students that didn't have any experience and didn't really supervise them at all to try and save money, which is why they're so bad and strange.

this games art is like nothing I've ever seen
There is a sword in the shopkeeper's shop that's stained with blood. Either that means that, the shopkeeper was once a badass warrior that slayed monsters left and right, or he just stumbled upon a dead warrior and stole everything they had. As vague as that was left, or as clichéd as the "shopkeeper that was once a warrior themselves" is, at least the game designers put SOME effort into subtlety telling side stories. Not enough effort for it to be admirable, but it shows that they had an idea of where to take this game, I would think.
There. Not that big of a challenge, to be honest.

I'm glad Man-Bat finally gets the recognition he deserves.
You know, the shopkeeper in this game gets frequently overlooked in favor of Morshu from Link: The Faces of Evil, to the point where Mortar from Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore is based mostly on Morshu with barely anything from the guy in this game. Kind of a shame, this guy has his own quirky charm to him.

i have to confess something...
i can still play this game, and i actually like it. since i was a kid when my parents bought it i got used to the controls and now i am as skilled at it that i can beat it in less than an hour (i do have a normal gaming controller though) so i know the inside outs of this game. i can assure you that i will watch and love this whole playthrough! good luck on later stages, and always remember...

It only happens if you stand still for a second. No button presses trigger it. The game IS just that bad.
"stand still to block"'s not a bad system in concept. It's the part where it takes a good second for the shield to go up when you stop moving that makes the mechanic unbearable.

This might be my favourite game grumps series, it was years since I last watched it, two episodes in and I'm already crying laughing again. I'm so glad Arin sacrificed his sanity for us to enjoy this.
After having watched the AVGN's video on the CDi games, I can tell the Grumps are in for one hell of a ride.

they usually don't record more than a week's worth of content. I don't know, but I think they don't play more than that, so they can see how popular the series is, and read comments of the videos before they have finished the game.
