Ayyyy... This post fight interview has by far the most mature and growth driven responses I've seen in a long freaking time. No excuses, no bullshit, no feeling sorry, etc... Good stuff man, didn't really know who you were before, but you gained a fan. Humble ass warrior!
'A little further ahead' - no disrespect, he was miles ahead, there's a huge disparity in skill set. There's nothing wrong with that, but you really need to acknowledge that so you recognise the curve you need to go on to improve.
Good work bro. What an experience. GR is at the highest level, that was apparent. But what you’ve gained from that match is only going to excel you massively. Respect.
I train mostly in the Gi because that's what we have here, but I'm following your journey because I love the mindset that you bring to the table in disrupting traditional training. More power to you!
Good work man. I saw you recover the knee line more than once. You were defending well. That last one was tough, the figure four seemed tight and the leg was compromised. You had to tap but so what! You learn, continue to train and get better. Best of luck moving forward.
Really and truly 100% the only breath of dominance in the match was you bench pressing him off you and getting your knee out of his knee line in the first entanglement. To think that you are “not far behind” is wild to say after that performance. I’m rewatching it as I type this to make sure I’m not crazy. The second you got any momentum on bottom he used it to pass your hip line. Literally grappling a full circle around you as he keeps you pinned then going for the kill with the double trouble. I’m not even trolling. I don’t do comments like this. You’re talented and you have a bright future but like the top comment said, “he was miles ahead” Best of luck with your ADCC run. Looking forward to seeing how far you make it
What an AMAZING achievement mate, what you have done in a short amount of time is world class. Thank’s for letting us all be apart of the journey so far. Cant wait to see you kill it at ADCC.
Sounds like a lower belt training with a higher belt - a good higher belt is usually 1 to 2 steps ahead - was expected - great showing against the no gi Goat 💪👍
Nice experience in taking the match. Whilst watching it looked to me that you were making frames and shutting down Gordon's movements and angles in a calm and technical manner, however you appeared to be waiting to see what Gordon's next movements were as opposed to initiating your own offence. What are your insights with respect to not being more offensive or did Gordon somehow shut that ability down?
I love how honest this man is with himself, both the good and the bad. With only a relatively short time in the sport, he looked great, and should be very proud. Can't wait to see where he goes from here.
Josh should fight Owen Livesey or Nicky Rod next. He still has tonnes of fights at his weight class, but Gordon is way too far ahead of everyone. Let’s see how Josh’s career progresses but he’s going to be one of the best for sure.
First time watching you compete. Impressive performance. You did very well. The composure and willingness to complete to the end is respectable. Looking forward top seeing you compete in the future.
Gordan's ground & side control on you was astounding. you defended it for 5 mins and made him try. well done. idk how his ground control was so good. I'd expect you be able to just bench him off lol
Champion mindset, looking for challenges and losses to improve, building relationships and future training partners? Much respect. You got a new fan here.
Saunder's has that champion mindset. Great to see no excuses and acknowleding Gordons skills, a great example of taking the L like a G, youre the man and thanks for the content!
Interesting you mention breathing practice because the first thing I noticed was your nose breathing and staying in first gear most of the match. Good training
Californians have been moving to Austin for over 10 years. Homelessness population keeps growing since. It was never this bad. Sorry you had to see that. - Native Texan
Dumb people never learn. It's funny they don't even notice how dumb the politicians they vote for think they are. "They'll vote for a ham sandwich if it has a D next to it." They're not wrong in that aspect at least.
The Coach in the beginning do not show the Technique good... 1. He forget the to secure the second Leg with a Footlock, so the Opponent can not go out and to hold the Opponent near you. 2. He have to drive his Body Backwards, to grab the Foot in the Heelhook. If the Oponnent stretch the Foot and have Power, you can not simply grab it with the free Hand. 3. He uses too much Force on the Leg triangle to show the technique, this is very dangerous for the knee, its like a Z-Lock what he do and you can torn the ACL also without using the Hands.
Mad respect to you, Joss for taking the fight on such short notice and having such a great, humble attitude. You’ve only been doing the sport for four years and competing against the best that has ever done Nogi! You will definitely be a champion! You’ve got a new fan in me!
I don't understand the game plan of going against Mr tummy ache himself and seeing the pain on his face and still laying there and trying the play the technical game against him instead of blasting him. Its like all those big muscles were entirely wasted. All that explosivity that you have and you used none of it and got absorbed into his game. I hope this is a lesson for you for the future that its barley your technique that lost you the match. It was your mind being absorbed by him.
Good match. But Gordon was way ahead of you. At no point in that match ... Gordon looked concerned. Whether bottom or top...Gordon was dominant. But then again this was Gordon Ryan. Lets see how you do against Nicky Rod.
He makes GREAT jujitsu practitioners look novice. It's like playing Jordan in his prime. Your showing doesn't speak poorly of your skills.... He's just that damn good.
TBH it was pretty arrogant to think this was going to be an opportunity to basically try and sell more instructionals about how to get belts super fast in JJ. Dude got completely schooled casually by a guy that felt like throwing up the whole time. He wasn't a step ahead....he was many steps ahead. There's a reason there's levels and time makes a difference. Being humble is ok.
incredible performance you have a great future in the sport but you definitely need to come off that shit you are smoking. Gordon beat you at 40 percent capacity you have a lot to improve on.
why you did not bring and use your than lol... man you didnt even try to fight , if GR handled you like that coming back from a long break, sick as f#@k out his stomach imagine what will happen at ADCC ... ups he wont be fighting the 99+ ... so maybe if you bring your lucky socks you might have a chance hahahah next time try to use your hands and specially your size & strenght cause that is all you have other than that ... great job building audience and score the opportunity to face Gordon i hope your instructional business dont get a dent cause you did not show any technique whatsoever
Ayyyy... This post fight interview has by far the most mature and growth driven responses I've seen in a long freaking time. No excuses, no bullshit, no feeling sorry, etc...
Good stuff man, didn't really know who you were before, but you gained a fan.
Humble ass warrior!
Real men mate, what can ya expect
Josh Saunders vs Nicky Rod would be an epic match
Was the exact same thought I had, the scrappy sequences would be fun to watch
nah, not interested in looking at 10 min of neck ties from Nicky rod, this is grappling not wrestling
I would prefer he go vs Victor Hugo
He ain’t ready for Hugo
Hugo would destroy him he won't go near him
'A little further ahead' - no disrespect, he was miles ahead, there's a huge disparity in skill set. There's nothing wrong with that, but you really need to acknowledge that so you recognise the curve you need to go on to improve.
Agree. Gordon’s been referring to this as a ‘warm up’ match post fight… it was never a contest.
This is true and well said.
Stfu lmao Who are you to even talk about skill disparity????
Couldn’t agree more.
Yes. Indeed.
Good work bro. What an experience. GR is at the highest level, that was apparent. But what you’ve gained from that match is only going to excel you massively. Respect.
Great visionary and support backing Saunders. He will do great things and soon.. "seek out failure" love it! Keep us updated lads.

You're gay brev

Lol he will get destroyed against any top level guy. Josh prefers the 60 kilos that way he can smash smash smash the little guys
Sounds like a lower belt training with a higher belt - a good higher belt is usually 1 to 2 steps ahead - was expected - great showing against the no gi Goat 💪👍

Great stuff Josh. Looking forward to watching your future competitions.
tap early and often! Live to fight another day!
First time watching you compete. Impressive performance. You did very well. The composure and willingness to complete to the end is respectable. Looking forward top seeing you compete in the future.
greetings from Montenegro Josh...looking forward to see you crush the adcc...
It was a really tough position.
Good job.
Can’t wait to see you at ADCC.
Respect and congrats Big Jo 🚀

Can’t wait for you to respond to Craig’s post!

Champion mindset, looking for challenges and losses to improve, building relationships and future training partners? Much respect. You got a new fan here.
Watched the match. Much respect to you for jumping in there on late notice and challenging yourself. F*ck the haters.
Great breakdown and humbling experience 👍I like your outlook and optimism 🙌🏻
Saunder's has that champion mindset. Great to see no excuses and acknowleding Gordons skills, a great example of taking the L like a G, youre the man and thanks for the content!
Great match got me curious to see the rematch in the future
It was nice meeting you there Josh!
We’ll see you again at ADCC!
I was impressed by your performance. Best challenge Gordon had for a while.
Great show man. I was waiting for this match for a while... Aloha from honolulu
shoelace reap > shoe lace outside because they can't hide the heel, you will always get looks at it as you force a roll.
You earned a new fan and follower. I enjoy your attitude and efforts! Keep at it!!!
With his teeth he would fit right in to austin
Great match with Gordon. I enjoyed watching it.
Coach ! Where can I email some shorts that we created for you? btw your IG link is broken ? Cheers.
Interesting you mention breathing practice because the first thing I noticed was your nose breathing and staying in first gear most of the match. Good training

And I hear they continue to support the Democratic parties. I’m a Brazilian that live in Japan.

Those homeless people are from California? I doubt it
Native here.
Ya, they ruined Austin. Thanks, Rogan!
@@sukiyaLocal yep. Notice it's all the blue states?
Josh, love your mindset.
This is why you are elite. Such an awesome debrief. What went well. What will improve. Game Plan and iterate. World class mate!
This is so intersting and motivational to see as a white belt
And that my friends is the mind of a champion. Very impressive.
Good stuff mate, keep pushin'!

This is what happens when inexperience meets experience.
Any thoughts on doing long sleeve versions of your rashguards? Would love to support from Los Angeles.
He played you. He’s levels ahead.
Good to see this dude get humbled!
Awesome mindset
Id like to see a match between him and nicky rod
Mad respect to you, Joss for taking the fight on such short notice and having such a great, humble attitude. You’ve only been doing the sport for four years and competing against the best that has ever done Nogi! You will definitely be a champion! You’ve got a new fan in me!
He's miles ahead of everybody
Josh vs big dan….
Terry Blacks gettin and givin some love!!!
Onwards and upwards 💪
Your insight is greatly appreciated. You're the next HW star, coach!

Ha! Last year when I had a stop over I could not believe how putrid the food was at LAX. Ended up having a spinach and feta wrap from Starbucks.
Gordon is the master of creating Dilemmas
God damn it.. 😢 you’ll get em next time 🔥
goddam Luke is a great teacher
like I said it would be awesome if u made it thru big congrats tho u did much better than i expected
Great defense in the beginning. Gordon was just a step or two ahead. Great match though
He makes GREAT jujitsu practitioners look novice. It's like playing Jordan in his prime.

Being humble is ok.
Only four years in the game. But kept his cool at least. Keep working , you get there soon enough.
Josh is very skilled and will be world class soon, but with all due respect, why the hell was he put in there with Gordon?
incredible performance you have a great future in the sport but you definitely need to come off that shit you are smoking. Gordon beat you at 40 percent capacity you have a lot to improve on.
You got humbled big time! 🤷🏼♂️
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Always try to learn from the best, if they are willing to teach you. Gordo lost and always learned from it. Oss
obviously he was gonna take your legs off, you dont have any game other than a copy of gordons top game
Dopeee
You got a problem with me?
Back to the gi buddy 😂
Not far behind? 😭😭😭
Bro... you're far behind. Let's not kid ourselves. But you're a beast none the less
He was playing checkers GR played chess
Austin has gotten really bad but you where actually across the street from the homeless shelter.
10:50 they always talk about how homeless free Texas is compared to other states.
'Captain Autism' fark 😂😂😂
Call out Nicky Ryan and beat him. That would he a true victory.
why you did not bring and use your than lol...
man you didnt even try to fight , if GR handled you like that coming back from a long break, sick as f#@k out his stomach imagine what will happen at ADCC ...
ups he wont be fighting the 99+ ... so maybe if you bring your lucky socks you might have a chance hahahah
next time try to use your hands and specially your size & strenght cause that is all you have
other than that ... great job building audience and score the opportunity to face Gordon
i hope your instructional business dont get a dent
cause you did not show any technique whatsoever
There’s Mexicans in Sydney?? 😂
Harry Kimura would have beat Gordon
Gordo was only getting warmed up and you got destroyed
Delusional.
He got you to submit in around 10 minutes. That's quite a bit more than being one step behind.
Cji over adcc all day
