- On the occasion of his 75th birthday, we dug up some rare John Lennon archival footage. The black and white 16mm spans an interview from the 1966 Beatles US Tour, Lennon's 1969 trip to India with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and the famous bed-in that he and Yoko Ono held on their honeymoon in Amsterdam in 1969.

John Lennon looks so damn awesome with those round frames.
@@julessantacarlo2514 yep
this is what makes his face
0:39 "you can't just keep quiet about everything that's going on in the world unless you're a monk
SoRrY mOnKs! I didn't mean it!
I meant it, actually "
LOL John is awesome
he was just a dumb-ass with the opportunity to show it to the world ~
monks are willing to share the knowledge they obtained through enlightenment , always
john is a douche
+Sarahx You're*
John had dry humour ; english humour. Maybe you just don't understand it / or find it funny.
John was a badass. People just don't like dry humor.
I always think when someone says they hate the Beatles and love some other so called badass band, just think how John would have verbally destroyed that band if they ever met
Aaron Guerrieri He had a rolling stones rant that was hilarious. He obviously loved the stones but it was fun to hear him roast Jagger lmfao
Well - It wasn't humor. John wasn't trying to be humorous. It's clear he and the rest of The Beatles were legitimately and seriously disturbed by the ideology of the culture of whites in the American South which they (rightfully) perceived as being racist and incredibly bigotted.
finn shoaps I don’t disagree with that, with them refusing to play for segregated audiences and John saying they were bigger than Jesus almost making them lose their middle America fan base, but they did have a great sense of humor and brought a lot of joy to the world. That’s an undeniable fact.
Many don't like truthful people.
Paul: 😐
Ringo: 😐
George: 😐
John:😎
John was a lost, damaged person from early on. Parents abandoning him, mom dying, best friend dying, never seen before
fame- cririsicim for the woman he fell in love with- I will never understand why he is so often times judged. Throughout all the pain he endured- came the music- sure he
abused drugs and booze, ( how would you deal? is the question i wonder about all the time had any of us been in his shoes)--he
was a survivor, strong deep down and able to return from the point of no return many times- he used his pain and confusion in
life to bring beautiful music to the world.
Lots of people whom suffered far less complain, not john he moved on bringing more and more beautiful music and
attention to issues that pained people.
Sarahx John's best friend did die, Stuart Sutcliffe.
Sarahx Lol what a joke
I feel so bad for Johns mother:,(
His best friend Paul McCartney died in '66 and was replaced with a look-a-like. That's gotta mess with his head too.
His best friend was Stuart love
John's points of view sometimes sat 'uncomfortably' with the more predjudiced in the public and media, but, rightly or wrongly, he stood by what he said, and wrote, most of which, was prophetic and true. He made mistakes, like we all do, but because of his fame and 'stance' in the world, was unfairly treated on occasion, but, now, 35 years after he was murdered, we see him, and what the world really think of him, a true 'Giant' in the musical, literal, and cultural sense. The true greatness of the man, is also measured, and 'tempered' by the fact that he probably would not like to be 'upheld' in that way, because he was very humble and didn't really enjoy the 'showbiz' scene. He gave an awful lot of his fortune away, he wasn't comfortable with the 'grandiose' setting that he found himself in, but had to accept his success obviously, and all that went with it. So glad that we will always have the benefit of his work, for EVER.
who did he give his fortune to?
A lot of 'needy' causes, bleeding hearts, and any 'Tom, Dick, or Harry who had a sob story. He was a 'soft touch'. And also very foolish, and profligate, sometimes purchasing large items, and never knowing what became of them, including, houses, and cars, for relatives and 'friends'. I'm not getting into a 'debate', or diatribe on the subject, but hope that what I've said offers a little 'further expansion', on my original post.
Why don't you just marry him then?
*Richard Mathews* You just told people to not judge him and now you are judging him on who he felt compassion for! Really!? Were you there? Did you read his mind? The Beatles' made a lot of money mistakes (Apple) because money became less important to them (at least John and perhaps George). It's what made him great. Idiots do the same with Jerry Garcia. It was not a weakness, nor was Jesus weak, That's right wing thinking. People do this everyday with the homeless as though they were the mafia getting over. BS (Some few do; that's humanity for you but most do NOT sleep on the street because they have any REAL choice). Yes sometimes the homeless person wants a drink or something else. Try living on the street for a week and then get back to me!
MegaRaven, you are quite right in what you are saying... However, 1, I'm not 'right wing', & neither do I think that J was 'infallable', or above redemption, or criticism, I was merely stating a fact, that he was profligate with money, the sum of which he had no real idea of, once it had risen to enormous amounts. I love John Lennon for his music, of which I have considerable knowledge, I am, as you rightly observe, in the 'priveledge' of knowing all the facts about how he 'gave', or distributed his wealth. All I do know is, he had his faults, like us all. Please don't take everything literally, or assume that I know everything about him. I was/am, just like many, a respecter of true talent, we cherish those who have it, not too many are blessed these days. It's all about 'personal perception', & opinion. I respect yours, please do the same for me.P.S. ..Took you long enough to 'respond'!?
Lennon, a musical genius with real working class roots, a sincere heartfelt concern for people and a strong disdain for pompous assholes and brain dead twits. That is why we still love him.
I thought he was from a middle class background
He was actually British middle class.
Yeah, John was middle class, and Paul, George and Ringo were working class.
@@kaymuldoon3575 his parents were working class, his aunt middle
@@jnagarya519 he had working class roots. His father and mother were working class. His aunt Mimi was middle class.
No artist/actor alive today can be more brutally honest than John Lennon
Because their career would be gone straight down the gutter you can’t speak you’re mind these days without facing some consequences from the leftist media and showbiz and god forbid you haven’t done or said something politically incorrect in the past people aren’t safe these days not even normal folk
Pretty gosh darn familiar for "rare footage"!
LeafInTheStream maybe your watching it the second time?
Exactly. This isn't rare at all, it's been on TV many times.
No ones ever said "exactly This isn't rare at all, Its been on TV many times". Nooooo....... How original.
lol forreal. this interview has been on youtube for years
Lennon was the real deal!
He was.
George Harrison face in 0:45... LOL
Eduardo Tera
Eduardo Teran George was rather tired of not just touring but being a Beatle at this point
Aww George 🥰
And ringo
Ringo and George are me and my friends in class
Met Beatles in 65 filming in Bahamas. John was very friendly asked where we were from? " New York I said " He answered and laughed and said you aren't like all the rest. We were too shy.
John’s mind moved quick. In body he only lived 40 years but in mind- probably 3000+
0:28 he legit cuts off the rest of the band
If you watch the unedited clip, Paul actually responds to the question first before John. That said, Paul's answer was very diplomatic whereas John cuts through the bullshit.
When John was a child he had to deal with the insanity of adults and when he became an adult he had to deal with he insanity of the kids.
John Lennon, had a Golden Heart , Great Personality he was truly a Wonderful Man.
pretty widely known at this point that he was a pretty terrible person.
+Latte Cat What its wrong to be secessfull? What about Jimi Hendrix, or Kurt Cobain? is there work bad because they made money?
Also what people seem to forget when they say "He was abuseive" He also completely turned his life around after realizeing how wrong it was. Also he was in NO way misogynistic, thats plainly made up. Go back to tumblr
+Latte Cat how is he homophobic or a misogynistic guy? He has millions of fanGIRLS and his manager, Brian Epstein, was gay. Yes, me mocked Epstein because of his homosexuality (which is somewhat out of pure humor), but he wasn't against the overall population of gays. And on the note of misogyny, he was married TWICE, to whom are both WOMEN. If he hated women so much, why did he marry two? Why did he sign any of the autographs the fangirls asked for? He was abusive, but he learned his lesson and was against it because he knows it's wrong. And that "150 million" in his band account, that's because he's successful! And dare I say it, artists now make just as much or maybe even more money than him. And he wasn't racists, even people who don't like him know he isn't racist. He's human, he makes mistakes, we all do. He doesn't have a golden heart, of course. Be he definitely was an overall successful musician, and an alright guy. You can have your opinion about him though.
Well, John Lennon was not perfect. He had many flaws such as drug abuse, bad family relationship, not being a good husband, temperamental, and hot-headed.
@@fasserosucks2347 known to who?
Happy birthday John Lennon
LEGEND
"We've all got our rights, you know."
Fuckin brilliant.
He was brutally honest about everything he couldve kept quiet & hid his flaws like all other celebrities glad he didnt he set the bar so high noone yet has taken up the torch fame wise.
I love how John had a firm attitude my father Carl praised him for his great respect for people
John was SAVAGE! What a fucking legend so ahead of his time! The way he shuts down that reporter about Vietnam is amazing. “Sorry monks I didn’t mean it!”
George's reaction after John said, "Sorry monks..." he was caught off guard
John was more complicated than Paul, and at times a little goofy, but when he was serious you knew it.
Very well worded Jeff. John had a great sense of humor. He was a very energetic guy. He could light up a room just by sitting in a chair saying nothing. As you say. He was also very smart, and he could be quite serious when discussing matters that were important to him such as this one. :)
Lohn lennon is definitely the more abrupt, intelligent out spoken man out of the band he was the fire that lite the boiler. Rip John. From bill essex uk
What on earth would John Lennon think about having an airport named after him?
I think he'd be fine with it, but insist on the word 'peace' being used as well as his name
John looks so much different compared to the early years of the beatles
published on mine, and John's birthday omgggg
Our sheltered America wasn't ready for a mind like that. Thank God the young people caught on.
"showbiz you know how it is"
thats not even correct
Interesting man
“Sorry monk I didn’t mean it I meant actually....” I love it lmao where are the John Lennon’s of the world?
When you're John Lennon, you're a BOSS! He nailed them so cleverly with words. Sorry Monks..... ha ha
0:20 George is so fed up
I had the most amazing experience of my life when I recorded my sister channeling John soon after his death. It's in a book, written by my sister, reviewed under my sister's name Kanai Callow, on UA-cam. There are also channelings of alien beings in the book. I hope it's ok to plug this. An astounding book, though. Such an enigmatic and beautiful man, John was. And IS!
That's a callow comment.
"Sorry Monks!"
i didnt mean it.
i meant it,
actually...
The best thing about that clip was the way he moved his hands 😂👏❤️
Heh 😆
noel Gallagher?? cmon lennons much better looking...
I wish john never went to America, maybe he'd still be alive today :'(
I've often thought about that. That was Yoko Oh-No's doing, luring John to the States, only a year after he had just bought a beautiful white mansion with a fully equipped modern studio - Tittenhurst Park - for them to settle in. The video for 'Imagine' was recorded there.
He did better in Canada. Our pritheme minister at the time Pierre Elliott Trudeau met with both John and Yoko and they were in Montreal for their bed in
he spent most of his honeymoon staying in bed
what a power couple
I don't know how the Beatles are so popular still in 2017 ists because of apple or the rock band and new wave fans listen to their albums I am a Beatles fan since I was 10 or 11 when I started to listen to their stuff the first musician I started to listen to was Michael Jackson then I got hooked on the old stuff from the 60s 70s 80s 40s 50s
George looks cool as f here and his reaction to Lennon is revealing
0:09 Johns demeanor started to change
He looks better with the glasses
They wrote the rule book
You can see John got really cynical and snarky in 1966 after the bigger than Jesus backlash. He wasn't the same person after that.
exactly. he changed after that
However, he went on to write 'Imagine' after that, so he didn't get completely cynical, did he?
@@landl47 Imagine is the communist manifesto.
@@brianinglis3805 Imagine is a fantasy. 'You may say I'm a dreamer....' John wasn't a politician or politically active in any way. Yoko came from a wealthy family and was a very astute business person herself- her assets, basically the Lennon estate, are estimated at $700 million. Not too much redistribution of wealth to the proletariat there, is there? Don't read too much into lyrics- John wrote 'Norwegian Wood', but that doesn't mean he set fire to buildings.
@@landl47 Lennon himself described “Imagine” as “virtually the Communist Manifesto, even though I am not particularly a communist and I do not belong to any movement…. But because it is sugarcoated, it is accepted.”
His first time wearing the glasses
0:55 dare you to wash you face in that river in 2020
Peace
John Lennon was an abusive father and husband but I still respect him tremendously
You can respect his music without necessarily approving of his character. Musical ability and morality have little to do with each other.
I do think staying in bed the entire time is a boring honeymoon
World peace? --Imagine that...
I agree. Been trying for years and years but there are to many brainwashed people out there but its not like i can blame them, getting tones of technology shoved in our faces etc etc so now we don't have the time to even sit and think about what we really should be doing with our lives and live as one. Too many distractions tbh
Hey Clark John was human he had emotional problems and he made it clear in many interviews and songs that he wished he could practice what he preached, listen to I don't want to face it from Milk and honey. He admitted he did the same to Julian as was done to him and as far as womanizing I would have a hard time talking about it, but if you can read then you know it happened. This is typical of artists ,they project the way they wish it could be. I still love him cause I'm just as fucked up.
Beatlejoose56 he wasn't fucked up and I bet neither are you.
John was messed-up because his past was also messed-up. John in the past never get much affection as a child, that's why he turned into a messed-up person. As for being a bad father, well that one was only true to Julian but he turned into a better father to Sean later on. And John himself also before he died, he attempted to mend his relationship with Julian but that one never happened because John got shot.
I think GTA London based the character Rodney Morash from John Lennon.😎
WHO DISLIKED THIS WHAT THE HELL
1967 trip to India. Pre- White Album, Brian's death..
The trip to India was in early 1968. In 1967, prior to Brian's death, they were working on Sgt. Pepper.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Out of all that was said when Lennon was killed, the only thing that resonated with me was the Ken Kesey article in the Rolling Stone.
Links?
Links? That was a lot of years ago. It would be as easy for you to look it up as it would be for me. It was an essay-type thing about this crasher they had, a hip-at-first-glance (clothes, hair, talk) kid that was depressingly obtuse about how his words and actions were bringing down the family (Kesey's family) he was crashing with/on. There were thousands of them those days, wandering around the country looking for some cool scene to attach to - so many that they innocently/obtusely pretty much destroyed any scene they did attach to. So finally Kesey told him in as friendly a manner as possible that it was time to move on. No problem. Later on, he was going out and came across the kid heading back to the Kesey property and was girding up his loins to be a little less friendly this time when Kid said no no, I just came to see if you knew they just shot John Lennon, he's dead.So they looked at each other and for that minute it didn't matter that Kid was just way too careless to have around or that Kesey felt resentful that Kid put him in the position of, for the good of his family, having to be coldhearted to some poor young one that was just looking for a friendly place and a bit of enlightenment or that Hippie had been suffering a slow ugly public death for a few years by then, killed not so much from outside but by our own weaknesses. So they shared that one moment of knowing they felt exactly the same about how huge it all was and how gone it all was. At least that's how I remember it but you know how life is -- it was probably totally different than what I remember!
Yeah, I tried looking it up and I couldn't find the specific article.
I suppose it could have been in some other magazine, but pretty sure it was R.S. But it was a billion years ago.
Whether an actor for an agenda John certainly knew how to be real.
...and the Yoko say's.....(pull string).... tehee tehhe.
I would like to know "What the Beatles members and John and Yoko are talking about." I want a Japanese translation.私は知りたいです「ビートルズメンバーとジョンとヨーコが何を語っているのか」。私は日本語訳を望みます。Watashi wa shiritaidesu `bītoruzumenbā to Jon to yōko ga nani o katatte iru no ka'. Watashi wa nihongo-yaku o nozomimasu.
Yoko was, remains and always will be a transcendental genius and a Goddess.
You don't even know her.
Ничего не понять! Но,всё равно круто! :-)
I wish people these days still made music like the rollling stones I love John Lennon i was born in 06 and all the music these days is shit
"...rare John Lennon archival footage." It's literally straight from Getty Images 🤣 ;)
hmmm...wish I could think of an interesting comment. this wasn't too novel for me as I've read or seen it before....but maybe others have not.............don't know if I would have liked John. Seems rather bitter and like he might only like you if you agreed with him?
well he spoke the truth- wasn't afraid. Listen to his music. He writes beautifully from his heart. He may have sounded bitter during interviews-- that is real also- the media was a thorn in his side. In making it as far as they have obviously you need the media. But He said many things that are true today- he felt things that people feel today regarding BIG subjects.....
Religion for example (christianity will shrink it will disappear, he took shit for that in the 60"s--but hes right-- church pews are bare and catholic schools in my town and many many more are closing every year. -- People just wont say the deserted religion, but they have .
He decided to use take what the media was going to do anyway (follow him around and obsess over him ,into something positive. He understood the way the REAL world worked--So he talked about peace.
He knew his celebrity was exploited by people who just had to get near a BEATLE-- ever hear how people would wheel-severely handicapped people forecfully at them as if the poor soles in the chairs were the ones benefiting!!!
He has many personal reason to be bitter as well--Dad took off, mom to busy partying so his aunt raised him- then at 17 his mom died.
His best friend Stewart also died at about 21 years old. A lot of hurt and pain.
He did not like or trust the establishment--think about that in today's context-- Big bank--screwed us--hence housing market crash!!
No child left behind in then out!!
Black men being shot by police officers for no or the wrong reasons---
War on Drugs --come on
He was just a man who felt FELT things very strongly and he was bright enough to articulate it
You and I are entitled to our own thoughts and opinions-- just wanted to say how I saw it
He got cancelled 50 years before it was popular
get stuffed yoyo
Did John ever try to poshup his accent?
Only when being sarcastic.
did u guys know its a rumor: yoko was sent by maharishi coz Lennon dissed him..and when i say 'sent' she was a witch...........apparently
Er, no. Yoko was Japanese, married and living in the US before she came to London. The Maharishi was Indian and living in India. They had nothing to do with each other.
He was "it"
This is why you don't turn into a full fledged hippie, folks.
You obviously don't know anything factual about Hippies. Lennon was a capitalist.
sounds like Julian Lennon speaks
That had to be the *GAYEST* shit I've *EVER* seen *John Lennon* do *3∆3*
0:43 the way he was joking at being annoyed reminds me of how annoying it is we have to watch out tongues to speak to people because he might be a she, or she might be a lesbian. No problem, but it is annoying.
If you aren't either, then why do you bother yourself over whatever others may be?

0:05 lol... Americans...
I DON'T LIKE YOKO ONO
Good Lord they were. a music group. Why are they being grilled on Jesus and Viet Nam?
Paul D top-ic-ons
This isn't a rare interview
Lennon was against snowflakes before they were called snowflakes
it aint rare if its on youtube LOL
Oh what the Yoko one can speak English?! I didn't know that she sounds like a nice person then
She was brought up and went to school in New York.
Cynthia Lennon was right. She lost John when drugs entered his life. Sad.
John Lennon was having several affairs when he was with his first wife, Cynthia. There is an interview with Paul saying John loved Yoko and liked strong women because he was raised by opinionated women like his aunt. John felt Yoko to be the stronger woman than Cynthia (his words not my opinion). There is also an interview with Cynthia where she stated that John said to her that Yoko was more suitable partner for him.
Drugs "entered" "The Beatles'" lives in Hamburg, so Cynthia was off the mark. John was always having affairs; he married Cynthia because he got her pregnant.
I WANT TO HUG HIM
fhon, faul

I really hope Yoko wasnt the money hungry manipulator some people say and that she was actually a good thing for John
I think John chose ono cause he liked Asians to be honest yellow fever
In "Don't Let Me Down" he gets to the root of it: "done me good" = BJ. He illustrated all of that in the drawings which were busted when exhibited publicly.
yoko ono ugly?
I am so embarrassed of yoko....so so much of a attention getter......
He looks like Noel Gallagher
Dylan Alexander No...Noel Gallagher copied Lennons look as did his brother knob head!

The more I see of JOhn Lennon, the more of a narcissistic dope he seems. Great musician though.. one of the best.
the more i see of him, the more of a great person he seems
And to think that only 3 weeks after this interview the biological and real Paul McCartney was killed in a tragic car accident on 9/11/66. If John teaches us anything it’s to speak freely & be honest.
Stop spreading that LIE, moron.
I doubt he was as i think the others wd have noticed.its an absurd conspiracy theory
Yoko is not only the best thing to happen to the Beatles, but to the entire music industry.

There's a meeting for all those who agree with this in a public telephone booth just outside The Dakotas.
if you are a true beatles fan and followed the fab four after they broke up then you would john was a hypocrite and awful person who pretty much went against everything he preached about. like if you are a hardcore researched beatle fan.
Oh bug the fuck off. Don't come to a John Lennon video if you're gonna preach of how "awful" he is. He's done amazing things and you don't know how much he means to some people. We've all made mistakes. So don't act all high and mighty. He was a great man that wanted better for this whole world and everyone in it.

+Clark Kent I see you're regurgitating what some articles say. Sad how you formed your judgement over his bad sides and not good sides...just shows me what kind of a person you are. John may have screwed up, but he will be remembered forever as a musician, and you will be forgotten. Ta!
