    Just ordered myself a skylight last night! Glad the review was positive after dropping £140 on lighting

    Great review Troy! I actually filmed my review yesterday, just needs a day of editing now lol. The strobing effect imitates a thunderstorm which can be used to trigger certain sp into breeding I think. They’re expensive but comparing them to a cheap beamswork or nicrew, they’re far far better. I was surprised how dim the beamswork was as I have only used jungle dawns before getting the skylights.

    3 years and no one mentioned the bee or moth at 6:08? 🧐. Maybe my sense of scale is off and it’s a giant ff? I had to rewatch several times 🤣.

      Your sense of scale is way off… it’s a fruit fly

    Is it bad for the soil to be consistently wet?

    • @TroyGoldberg
      @TroyGoldberg  5 років тому

      it depends on what kind of substrate you use. . . also what kind of drainage you use... my substrate is never waterlogged or soaked but it is alway damp, and I Use ABG with large drainage layer of growstones

      @@TroyGoldberg makes sense. Was thinking of building a drip wall tank but never understood how to go about the substrate. Thank you for the reply.

      @@TheSocalfisher1 yeah you could always use aquarium gravel as well where wcwe the drip spots are...

    each single one of those 4 cost 40€. considering you have roughly 200bucks of lighting on the little tank would you still recommend them all things considered? it does look good, no question, but is it worth it in your opinion? since the cheap 70cm Nicrew already does the trick for 30€ just fine aswell.

    • @TroyGoldberg
      @TroyGoldberg  5 років тому

      well its hard to say, it all depends on what quality of lighting your looking for. I have no experience with the Nicrew so I can't give my opinion on that matter, but I will say if you're doing a display tank Id think these would be the way to go. Very night spectrum, and extremely low Profile.

      @@TroyGoldberg do you think one of those instead of 4 would suffice aswell? did you try?

    • @TroyGoldberg
      @TroyGoldberg  5 років тому

      @@SilkMilkJilk no I didn't try just one... again its gonna depend on preference and plants used, you know? I would think 2 would work?

      Hi SilkMilkJilk, this pricing info is not entirely correct. If you don't need a separate power adapter for each lamp, you can easily find a set of 4 for EUR119, £107, $140.

    • @SilkMilkJilk
      @SilkMilkJilk 5 років тому +1

      @@SkylightAquarium It was the cheapest I could find unfortunately. It was a single unit + adapter tho, so yes gettin a bundle of 4 with one adapter shouldn't be as high, true. It's rough to compare lights without a side by side tho, and ofc you can't side by side with all the lights out there, that is understandable. spectrum and small form factor look great actually, but what I have seen so far is the benefit over regular seems unproportional to the price increase. that's pretty much the only beef I have with those. Troys long term comparison might change that impression, but as it stands, I couldn't recommend the lights. thanks for replying tho, cheers!

    Kinda expensive when I can buy led floodlights for $12.
