I think you ran the ram in single channel there, might not matter though in most scenarios with the opteron heh.
Also do you have any pci-e quadro graphics cards you are planning too go over ?
there is a 1.5 gb 8800 gtx the quadro fx 5600 for example.

@@RETROHardware Thought it was dual channel when i ran ram like that on my socket 775 test rig but it turned out too be single channel, should be one in each colored slot (one in orange and one in red there on your motherboard.)
Did you confirm it in cpu-z or similar program that it was running in dual channel in the ram tab there ?

@@RETROHardware RIght, In fact the Gigabyte 3D1 was the very first dual 6600GT card on one PCB and Leadtek was introduced few months (weeks?) later as far as I remember but I thought it was only the prototype but it looks like it got into retail :) This Winfast is also clocked even faster than Gigabyte edition. As impractical as it is, dual card SLI setups always look cool.
Very nice video! I'm trying to build a system like yours! I have a DFI Lanparty nF4 Ultra-D, with a Opteron 185, 4gb DDR500 and two 7600GS. I still need to find a SLI short cable, a second XFX 6800GT or two 6600GT!
The mix of all the beautiful hardware and epic guitar soloing is like music to my eyes and ears.
Cheap paint brush that's soft makes for a good dust brush when cleaning dust of components like GPUs, CPU coolers and other hard to reach and small areas. Great video once again non the less! Cheers!
Not really, the cheap paint brushes don't use natural fibers and instead plastic ones which generate static electricity when you run them across boards and could short ICUs. Best to use brushes that are ESD certified to be 100% sure that there's no risk in harming the device.
Jeez men =) Is about 15-17 years since that. I remember very well i had a ATI X550 when nVidia 6000 series was released. i was 13-14 at that time, if iam not wrong. Most wanted, Crysis, Prince of Persia were my favourite games at that time : ) Very nice video. I am really surprised to see those working even after so long :)
My first desktop I every had to do any sort of customization on was an old socket 939 Compaq. The AMD Opteron 180 was the best processor I could get for price as the Athon 64 x2s on 939 were so expensive at the time. Paid about $40 USD for the Opteron and bought a 2gb Galaxy GT 440 off amazon for around $50. even with 1.25gb of ram that was in it (It was given to me) it still played games like League of Legends and Skyrim on Medium detail really well on my cheap 1024x768 hp flat screen monitor lol! Love the channel! Great videos :)
I have that same motherboard the GA-K8N-SLI, along with two GA-K8NXP-SLI motherboards, and a Gigabyte GV-3D1 dual 6600GT. I actually bought the K8N and the second K8NXP because my first one developed a fault. I still have it around, because I can't bear to throw it out. Those motherboards actually support the Opteron 185, too.
I have the GA-K8NXP-SLI and the gv3d1 though 1 cap on the 3dv1 looks like it needs to be replaced will most likely do them all cpu is an opteron 140 if i remember right
@@paulb4uk I replaced all the through-hole caps on my GV-3D1. At least half of them were bulging. I haven't touched the surface mount ones. I also replaced some of them on my broken K8NXP, but it didn't help. The darn thing rapidly turns on and off with most powersupplies. Some run for a while, and shut off randomly. Hence when I replaced it.
I have two pieces of GB DUAL 6600 too ... both with bad caps :-)

These obsolete hardwares have their own kind of interest, they are useless today but these kind of videos are fun to watch.
Exactly the reason I love Toughbooks and Dell Precisions so much: they had ridiculous MSRPs back in the day (well duh, TOL components are never cheap!) but nowadays you can get them for really reasonable prices.

The opteron 180 is a bloody good chip i tell you, they are server cpus and are designed for constant operation, because of this they overclock better than the 4800+ on socket 939. 2x7800gt's in sli would be a perfect match for the opteron180 each gpu would then have its own 2.4ghz 1mb cache core.

you should compare the 6600GT SLI setups to a 6800GT ever got mid range SLI when it would cost more then just moving up a tier and didnt seem to be much faster

It's true what you say, but a fair comparison would have been with a 6800 GS or GT.
But for a cost/benefit ratio, SLI was never recommended.The WinFast is very, very ugly. As always a great video. Congratulations.

Dual 6600 data transmission is better than SLI. That is reason dual6600 is better, But dual6600 has a disadvantage if when frame drop, ths is more pathetic than SLI (Maybe dual6600 has a bad heat transfer, Because they have a dual chips near on one board).
However ths is a good video, I like ths one.

I had a Asus 6600gt that was a good clocker close to 580mhz as long as you cud keep it under 60c it was all good. I ended up with a socket a heatsink from a cpu on mine I cut dwn the fins to make it fit..I even removed 2 pci connectors off my mobo too...haha good times good times

I really hope i can find at least one more 939 Opteron or X2 cpu. My dfi lanparty is working again 🎊 Also really need a nother of the retention things for that particular socket, because it seems what few NEW coolers being made that work on the platform expect it to be there. The retention(?) Around the A8V at the moment is missing the hooks at the center by the screws. And literally every cooler i have on hand expect it to be there, to secure to it. I also have a big tower heatsink that doesn't use it to mount, but that's on my A8N at the moment, because the plate for it will press on surrounding capacitors on my LanParty board. Definitely in a conundrum on my end.

You don't need a capture device to use the print screen key (gives you much clearer pictures of the desktop than using a camera).

Print screens with results are in photo gallery. And capturing all of kind stuff I‘am playing with (from ISA to PCIE) is complicated a needs lot of devices than one DVI/HDMI box for few bucks. I‘am ok this way.

6600GT runs windows 10 just fine with the random driver i found online
haven't had the same luck with a 6200 tc pci-e. random driver crashes and freezes all the time but not in the desktop. disabling hardware acceleration doesn't help either.
I've used GeForce 6150 with Windows 10 and original Vista drivers were just fine.

max payne will run at 1080p 60fps on a nvidia fx5700, its a directx8 game
Seems the slight difference in performance between the 128mb and 256mb versions is because of different core and memory speeds. 506mhz(256mb) vs 556mhz(128) and 1012mhz(256) vs 1132(128). That's a 10% faster core & memory clock on the 128mb version and would account for the 10% higher score in 3DMark 01 & 03. Interesting that the difference is negligible in newer 3DMark tests
Maybe SLI 2x 256MB can be interesting if better or not. Will bet that not :-)
awesome, i completely skipped the era of ddr1 and 64-bit dual core cpus, i had a barton xp 2200 mobile for the longest time and went to a phenom ii x4 975 as my next computer; also i have never bothered to do SLI!

That 256MB had lower clock speeds so that explains why it scored lower.
I've got opteron 180 and two 8600gt on the Abit nf4 sli-able Mobo, but that doesn't worked properly((((
Two 128mb cards are not 256mb SLI, SLI does not add the video card memory (texture is replicated on both cards)! A Duo 6600GT card has two 6600GT 128mb (does not add to the memories despite the advertising at the time!) Inside a card. If you use MSI Afterburner to monitor the data, you will only see 128mb even though there are 2 cards with 128mb each! Congratulations on the cards and video, be that you could return the nvidia and AMD x2 series !!!

Do you have suggestions for get Rage Fury MAXX working in Win98SE? Also I have AGP 6800 Ultra, so no SLI but fun on Socket 939 or 478, also on 775 with 4coredual-VSTA, but the board can be finnicky.
I used original drivers without problems in W98. Then you must check if both GPUs enabled in ATi control panel.

it should say dual 6600 with 128meg of ram not 256 as the memory doesn't scale

Yep, SLI is old technology. But crossfire far more garbage, because it doesn't have a bridge at all. So use perfect technology like NVlink.

Yes. The only problem with it and some drivers is that the gpu usage or temp sensor wont show depending on the driver version of the gpu. Other than that, it works good :)
I use HWinfo for monitor the gpu temp. And MSI Afterburner for the rest.

Got a asus 7800 gt dual that I've been meaning to use as part of a pentium M build just for kicks.
ı tested dark souls run 5 fps lol ı wonder what sli will be. ı texted on 400x400 resulotion. prototaype or star wars force unleshead and gta4 wonder sli performeace bocuse single card cant handle. ı suprise hawx game run good in single card. its 2009 title. ı played game called swapper 2014 title and runs good. but after 2010 era even with slı no need to push diretx 11 become thing and not support. maybe skyrim can work in 20 fps. non steam version of course. ı remember ı palyed skyrim with 6200 go laptop so.
