Main Ingenue essence here. I have a funny story with my glowing powder with actual glowing particles in it. I was ashamed to wear it because I was 38 at that time and glow was not a part of the serous teacher look I aimed. A friend of mine visited me that day from another city and the afternoon we had some coffee after work. I was wearing mattifying powder and all the time - oh, your work is so stressful, you look drained after classes. Couple of hours later we met for dinner and I thought this was the right time to try the new glowing powder. When she saw me she was amazed - oh, you look so fresh so youthful, and I is falling apart after the long day... When I said her the only difference is the glowing powder she look at me carefully and said she doesn't see any glowing particles on my face. When she tried it later (she has main dramatic essence) it was glowing on her skin and she looked cheap... So, essence really matters! All Ingenue - choose boldly satin and shimmer products for everyday makeup! They look natural on us
Agreed! Ingenue is my main essence and I love a good highlight and shimmer eyeshadow :) and like you said, too much matte powder is not what I need to be doing. A good satin-y lipstick- liquid or regular is always a good thing as is a setting spray that sets everything in but keeps the dewey-ness
Ellie ! What do you think about doing a video on maternity wear for the different types? Whether that’s kibbe or you explore the topic with the body matrix. There’s little-to-no tips and tricks out there in that department, so it’s definitely a hole that could be filled- and you always have great insight!
Yes please. Maternity as well as postpartum. (I have a baby daughter and figuring out how to dress for convenience as well as style is trickier than you'd think.)
I have no pity for the luxury houses. Greedy AF. I can easily afford luxury, but even so, I wouldn't buy real with the 50% price hikes in the last couple years. *suluxy*
My main essence is dramatic and I'm medium to high contrast. I've always been told throughout my teens and 20's that i look so natural in bold make-up looks and it all makes sense now
Can you do a 1980s teen girl next door makeup tutorial? I always found their makeup very subtle and low-maintenance but beautifully natural and ethereal the actresses from this decade didn't really wear the bold, bright, loud, neon-like colors the '80s is mainly known for in their movies. Examples: 1. Brooke Shields 2. Courteney Cox 3. Ione Skye 4. Jennifer Connelly 5. Lori Loughlin 6. Phoebe Cates 7. Winona Ryder
I have high contrast and one of my best looks was no makeup except black liquid lipstick and the slightest nude blush. I was feeling extremely like the main character. I also love gold sparkly makeup with lots of bronzing. The trends and buzz words are exhausting but having a makeup look that fits your features is really important beauty-wise
Love the video! Great breakdown and super helpful. Re: the lip color thing for warm vs cool. I'm a deep autumn with purple pink lips (was draped in person). I look best in a warm lip bc it balances out my super cool lips and harmonizes w my warm hair. There's probably too much variety across ppl to have a general rule for lip colors or use it to help figure out ur color season. Just wanted to leave a note for anyone new to color analysis!
Yes, another vote here that lips can fool you. My lips look mauvey but I am a fully warm season. I didn't like lipstick until I realized i needed a warmer lip to match the rest of my face and then suddenly the lipstick looks natural!
I find cool toned makeup looks for sultry on me. Warmer tones more fresh & youthful. I feel like have classic, romantic, & natural essence. I love red lips! I'm medium contrast, but very deep!
oh olivia pope in scandal is an amazing example (in my opinion) for classic and ingeneu essence with low to medium contrast in makeup (obviously in the vibe she's supposed to give in her role). Just wanted to share that, sadly there aren't as many as white actors, but in either case it can be interesting to look for actors with similar features to you and check out multiple movies they're in. It can give a great comparison about how their makeup/styling changes their vibe and what you feel most drawn to. I hope we get to see more POC leading ladys, if anyone else has another example i would be very interested in it! thank you ellie for putting this video trend in a broader context :)
I always feel like essence is very usual here. Despite the fact that movement is part of essence, I feel that even those with reduced mobility have strong ability to express essence. So I always think about how Stephen Hawking had a good amount of classic but also some natural - but a good big chunk of gamine. The playful sparkle in his eyes and the word choices he used really reflected that. So I think even with reduced mobility we still give off a vibe , which is much easier than looking at silliouhette. If you are more into Kibbe I would research how different types look when seated - it might help you see what could suit you. I hope this is helpful !!
I have Ethereal, Dramatic and a touch of Gamine with a bright spring palette and I did a quick 5 minute makeup look one day that quickly became my signature makeup. I have ☀️🌙🌱 roots and my 3 words are playful, warm and dreamy. So you might be able to tell, I love to experiment with clothes. But I’m super lazy with makeup. Everytime I wear this makeup look I get compliments. I do colorful eyeliner on my lash lines (I often use forest green because my eyes are hazel, but you can use any color), black or dark brown mascara, peach lip oil or black lipstick (odd mix, I know) and I use a highlighter on my cheekbones, nose, cupid’s bow and my inner eye. This look always gets me compliments and it takes 5 minutes to do. I highly recommend trying this if you have a similar mix to me.
Contrast is so confusing for me because I literally go from low to high contrast depending on the lighting and time of day. But I always have to go with a medium value colour because both of the extremes make me look dead
I just had an idea for a video for next year's Halloween. I think it could be cool to take Halloween costumes but style them for each colour season so like a witch in deep winter, true spring, light summer ect. You could pull inspiration from Pinterest. You could also do it for things like character costumes but for style roots, like if different cartoons, like Sabrina the teenage witch would be _______, ________, and _________ style roots. I think it would be a good way to promote more sustainable or even last minute Halloween costume ideas!
You and I have the same colouring (different essence though) and I'm so happy to say you inspired me to grow out my highlights and embrace the mousy blond. ♡
Oooh I guess I'm an autumn then.. How interesting 😮😮 I'm washed out in any shade of pink, I pop and shine in reds, and smokey eyes really suit me. I also look my best in darker colors of clothes. Finally I'm getting somewhere 😅🙏🏻
Yes!! I love this hair color and hairstyle on you. You look nice ellie🤗 and also i like how you teach us about style while you yourself also expanding your style and trying new things💛
I feel like I look my best with cat eyes, bold lipstick and natural glow on my skin without foundation. My color season is Bright Winter, but I'm not sure about my main essence. Maybe gamine or ingenue
What's interesting is that for high contrast ladies wearing something lighter will honestly make the makeup stand out more, you'll look more like you're wearing makeup, in a not harmonious way. As a bright spring, I tried brown eyeliners for a light, neutral look and was surprised to see that it sort of popped off my face and looked muddy. Whereas when I wear a black-brown, it blends with my eyelashes very naturally
This is true. Dark Autumn here: I look like I'm trying too hard to blend in with the wallpaper if I do light, "barely there" makeup. If I want to do something like soft glam I have to adjust the intensity--toasted peaches and strong corals for lips and cheeks, medium to dark neutrals for eye makeup. Needless to say, I don't try to copy the look of the season if I know the colors will just sit on top of my features.
@@AngryTheatreMaker dark pink coral is my GO TO for lips I can't do anything else it just looks off. Except a light red but then it's a much more glam look obviously lol
@@estherhinds6314 I know what you mean about the light red, although on me that's more of a "fun" look. For sharp glam/boss lady vibes I pull from mapled and burnt reds--the overtone should look slightly charred. My fiance thinks it's a good look on me, although since he's not into color analysis he doesn't know what is going on.
Natural /Ingenue I tend to go for a soft red or rose pink lip sometimes a little brown eyeliner as I'm mid to low contrast so liner really stands out .
Great video! I have started using the high/low contrast concept as explained by such creators as Dear Peachie and Style Refinement (formerly Style Me Jenn), and it works like gangbusters. Prior to that I'd gravitated to medium and high contrast looks without fully understanding why; now I know I can carry a bold eye or lip without too much trouble. My personal parameters have changed yet again after having a baby daughter. I cannot be bothered with complicated makeup looks that take hours to get right, and most of the time I aim at looking presentable while still honoring style/essences/seasonal palette. I'd have to say Monica Bellucci's signature look (minus tightlining) is my favorite to take notes from as far as eye makeup for everyday use. Again, thank you!
You are such an inspiration for me! Thanks for another excellent video. You usually help me to figure out things backwards: I identify what works for me in your videos and then I find my essence/season/body.type! I rarely wear make up, so this knowledge it is even more important so I won't make myself look ridiculous the few times I do. So now I think I have classic-gamine-natural essences because I think I look my best with minimal, simple make up (classic and natural) but a bold eyeliner (gamine) does wonders for my eyes and I like my lips better in a color closer to mine than in bolder hues.
I understand my Kibbe type, color season and contrast but I’m always confused on my essence! I can often recognize others’ essences but for some reason I feel a disconnect with my own facial features.
Higher contrast and ingenue essence absolutely work together really well. Keep the over all look soft and sparkly but wear more colorful makeup instead of neutrals. Try pinks and purples.
And their makeup style can be naturall yet gigh contrast, look at IU,wonyoung, Nayeon, they have medium-high contrast and ingenue features but it really works.
I'm probably a FG, so whenever I contour it brings so much of my dramatic (mind you, I don't have a sharp jaw, but sharp eyes, cheeks and brow bone) that it doesn't go well with my essence 😂 I'm too quirky for that dramatic intensity. I can have dark eyes and lips, but if I accentuate my bone structure it's an overkill
I think I used to have the corally lips but my lip colour changed in my early 20s to a purply pinkish colour . However I know without a shadow of a doubt I’m warm tone , cool colours make me look grey, it’s a strange one. Milas essences are interesting , I’m a very soft looking SG and I have always been told by people how I remind them of Mila Kunis . Smokey eye and a nude lip has always been the best makeup for me , I used to do that makeup every day for work , it never looked dressy on me . I think I’m medium to high contrast but a dark lip and a dark eye look clownish on me and I think it may have more to do with my face being so small and delicate and making two of my largest features look even larger and bolder takes up too much of my face
Loved this video ! I am still searching for the perfect lipstick shade for me... I am high contrast but with soft features, which kind of contradicts in terms of recommandations.
I think i have natural and classic essences. How would you suggest combining them since you contrasted them in your examples and said classic makeup wouldn't look good on a natural
This may be a controversial question, but can any race be any color season? Or are there some seasons that are just out for skin tones that are very dark or very light?
Any race can be any colour season. The words are confusing though, partly because some colour season systems were just designed for white people. So I get why you’re asking!!! Sadly a few colour analysts think that only white people can be all of the seasons and they limit everyone else, which is insulting. In reality all races have nuanced skin tones! Draping is the only way to know what effect colours have on someone and when done properly colour analysis is about undertone. It’s all about those nuances. A decent analyst can see undertones in the full range of skin colours! I think of undertones as being like how an undercoat helps tie different colours together and gives an overall effect to a painting? Colour analysis aims for a similar harmony. The person and the colours should look like they belong in the same painting!
When looking at a black and white pic to determine contrast, don't use a filter. Instead, turn your saturation all the way down. Kackie Reviews Beauty (I think that's the channel name) just put up a 6 minute video on contrast alone.
