Such a culturally specific topic. It's like the main girl from Squid Game. She was cast bc in Korea she has a very masculine/harsh face while in the US everyone thinks she's so beautiful and sweet looking. Same with many many other facial types across cultures. As an afro-latina I always find it so interesting (but also annoying) how differently my "essence" is perceived based on who is viewing me.
Absolutely. I lived and worked in different parts of Asia, and like to watch Media from there too. And I noticed how my brain adjusts after a while of seeing many faces of one ethnicity, and I see the essences in their faces as fast as in any Western face.
That’s interesting; I’m American and I thought that girl had a pretty strong tomboy/boyish look. I think her hair was pretty feminine for American standards but she could easily look androgynous with the right clothes and hair
I think the US likes her for the same reason. That she’s masculine/boyish, harsh, and that’s what makes her beautiful to a lot of people and she can be all that and cute too. She’s rather androgynous, model-esque, which makes so many fascinated by her. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone describing her as sweet looking, unless if they’re talking about the actress’s real life personality
@@Freezientmaybe her body but no… a western eye wouldn’t see a round face, small head and flat profile as masculine or harsh. Being Nigerian with some Chinese I have a VERY flat side profile and it’s that lack of dimension that does make her look very soft comparatively - even if her body doesn’t follow suit
That's so interesting. Reminds me of my mom. Her maiden name is Faye which sounds Etherial and Ingenue. Faye sounds very angelic and fairly like. You guessed it, her dominate types are Etherial, Ingenue, and natural.
such an interesting video! I think something to point out about Zendaya is she's always playing teenagers- and she has been forever now which makes me think people have really latched onto her ingenue essence- and if olivia culpo or anya taylor joy tried playing a teenager we wouldn't believe it. it makes me think Zendaya plays up the dramatic/natural side with red carpets/street style so she looks a little older and people remember she's not actually still 16
I think her height gives it away though. Shes incredibly tall, and sometimes the definition in her legs gives it away that she’s a full grown adult and has already finished puberty. So I see why she’s often styled wearing short and baggy clothes as Rue-it hides the “adultness” of her body. She’s always had a bit of a baby face that can be matured with harsh contour too. I feel like when she played Marie in Malcolm and Marie, her being her exact age felt a lot more believable, especially given that when she’s in clothes more “revealing” for her age, it doesn’t appear out of place for her to wear them. And there’s much less ways she has to compensate to look the age of the character she’s playing when the character is her age. Especially the way she carries herself. It doesn’t feel like she’s too young to wear more revealing clothes even if it is for Rue.
@@pixi3d3ath47 her height definitely gives her away a bit- and I think she also wears baggy clothes on euphoria because it helps flesh out the personality of the character
I definitely want more case studies. But a break down of which features go where would be so helpful to be able to type yourself. Like what constitutes what.
Essences aren't just facial features, they are also body, voice, gait etc and the way you hold yourself and express yourself. Things like the way you look when you smile and your demeanour are important to essence. That's why identical twins can have different essence blends.
Hmm. Thats a good point. I have a super young face (I'm 31), but a super womanly, feminine body, hourglass to Pear. But..I'm also pretty short (I'm 5'3). And! I have a super husky smoky voice. So I dont know what I have going on 😅
This makes SO MUCH SENSE. I am loving the 60-30-10 rule, since i thought a 'mix' always meant equal parts. I am predominately a classic essence since less is more for me. However I did the face line exercise and found a strong undercurrent of ingenue, which surprised me since I felt I could never pull off cutesy/girly things. Putting it into the 60% Classic and 30% ingenue instead of 50/50 makes so much sense now. I've always gotten comments that people are 'surprised' at my age and chosen occupation despite me trying to look as professional as possible. The very structured and tailored look of 'professional work wear' really clashed with my face. I'm still working on cultivating that professional look/effect, but your videos have helped tremendously. Your work is incredible and has helped me find my style and myself. Thanks for all the good work you do Ellie :)
To incorporate Ingenue into professional office wear is a challenge, but you can have so much fun once you get the hang of it! Assuming you already have a lot of Classic (if i understood your post correctly) makes it much easier. Try to wear overall classic lines, very easy for office wear - pencil skirts, straight pants (maybe a slight bootcut even), plain colours within your season...basically less "fussiness" and detailing, the better. Closer to your face, bring out the Ingenue. (I also am a mix of Classic, Romantic and a bit of Ingenue so this is what i do!) For instance, a flowy blouse (not baggy) in a lightweight material with a soft sheen - like chiffon or silk (not very shiny, that would be more Romantic and probably overkill for work lol) works much better than a crisp button down shirt in a stiffer fabric. No need to go overboard with ruffles and puffs! Or, you can switch up a pencil skirt for an A-line, but pairing it with a more structured (not stiff) top will balance it out and keep the look professional. Culottes can also be a great alternative to the classic pant, if your dress code isn't *too* strict (i mean the more structured ones, not harem pant type). A darker neutral colour like black, navy, charcoal or coffee brown (no prints!) will keep things professional and you can add a short blazer on top to make it even more formal if you wish. Also, as a general rule cardigans are better for layering than boxy blazers, just nothing too baggy or slouchy (which is more Natural essence). Hope these help 😃
I'm a Soft Classic (well mostly, I also have traces of Romantic and Natural apparently, details in these lines are good for me as long as I stay in Classic lines) with an Ingenue/Classic essence and I dress in 1900s style, I think it's very suitable for a Classic/Ingenue mix! It has the clean lines with the waistline, but it's easy to work around it to adapt it to one's essence: dramatic essence can go for strong colours and the fashionable stripes of the period, while Ingenue can go for the laces of lingerie blouses... As a Soft Classic/Ingenue with an Autumn palette, I tend to keep it simple with my 1900s skirts having mostly neutral colours (except that suit that's Sunflower yellow and fantastic, but yellow is my main colour and I can wear it in many variations), think brown/moss green/sand/mustard/even a luminous grey. I associate it with feminine but simple blouses, matching belts, and on top I usually wear traditional Japanese jackets - haori vests - that are usually matching with the outfit either by contrast or by colour combination (for example a grey skirt with a powdery pink blouse and a deep plum haori that has soft pink floral details and a linen belt with burgundy red embroidery; or a moss green skirt with a golden blouse, a brown linen belt matching my brown boots and bag, and a haori with patterns that are forest green/olive/rust red/golden; or a brown skirt with a long matching brown ribbon as the belt, a dark sand/amber blouse with a square neck and brown embroideries worn on top of a simple white blouse, a earthy haori with muted red/yellow/brown; the aforementioned Sunflower yellow suit contrasted with a baby blue blouse that has floral lace details at the neck/sleeves/around the buttons, with a warm plum haori that has small baby blue patterns...) . The colour mixes and details keep the outfits cute and youthful and feminine, but the historical style and its elegant S-shape silhouette also helps play on the timelessness that is a very Classic trait. It's super comfortable as well!
I would say zendayas essence is more gamine than ingenue. I wouldnt say that she looks innocent, sweet, or cute. She look mpre rebellious and mischievous like an elf or how a lot of teenagers act which is probably why she keeps getting casted as a (rebellious) teenager
I’ve been watching your video’s for a while now, also from this light blonde era of yours. I came back to this specific video because I wanted to revisit the essences, and it just occured to me that I would like to compliment you. Your energy in your recent video’s feels more grounded, feels more professional and make the video’s such a pleasure to watch regardless of the topic. It’s very nice to see you (or anyone) grow in what they do, to see that you keep renewing yourself and developing in something in which I always considered you one of the best. I’m a teacher and I relate to your video’s in the sense that even if you were already a nice teacher, in a year you feel even more grounded and stable in doing what you do. Thank you for these video’s, I hope to do an analysis with my mom with you some day! ✨🦜
Not really for now, maybe more for in the fall, but this made me realize I love to see a video about essences in (Halloween) costumes and what works for what. Also because you can go all the way with costumes, and it's a lot of fun to play around with. Talk about essences make always realize that my Halloween costumes are the best examples of what works for my essences, why for example whatever+demon (demon faun is still my best yet) always works for my Halloween costumes because of my dramatic, natural and ethereal main essences, but as soon as I try something cute, sweet or quirky it just doesn't work.
It’s very apparent that you’ve truly enjoyed creating this video and the one before, and it’s been so nice to spend a bit more time with you for each video! 🤗 It’s an absolute pleasure to see your happiness and passion really add a shine to your expertise, all of which naturally elevate your confidence and enhance the whole video! 😍 I always love hearing your helpful + unique perspectives and ideas, as well as your seemingly candid thoughts and insight! ❤ Thank you! 😊 P.S. Will try to think of a way to contribute to your call for volunteer case studies soon!✌️
I sometimes feel like the celebrity comparisons aren’t that helpful, because the celebrities that are chosen are very specific. They’re all top tier beauties, that are extremely thin, and have very digestible features. Small noses, plump lips, slender faces. I would like to see these reviews done on a wider variety of women. And I don’t just mean physical size.
For example variety of age, size, beauty, and features may look like: Jamie lee Curtis, Melissa McCarthy, Aubrey plaza, Lisa kudrow, maya rudolph, Jackie Sandler, Tina fey, drew Barrymore, Tracey Ellis Ross, Maggie gyllenhaal, Tia and tamera mowry. All extremely beautiful women, but not in the same room of unobtainable beauty like the Kardashians, the Jenners, Hailey Bieber, and so on. They feel more that real people.
Another way to do it is to analyse your most favourite outfits (the ones you cry about if they get damaged). Mine always are quite simple (classic), relaxed (natural) and touchable (romantic) - eg a simple relaxed fit singlet in rich blue with velvet edging; a charcoal deep v dress with cream ethnic print made of silk. Once I saw the combination (classic 60, natural 30 and romantic 10) I can't unsee it.
I think that the most important part of essences is the overall vibe your features create, so when you break up the features into individual parts I think it's easy to miss the mark. Your essence is created by how your features play together to create an effect, so isolating the features can give you the wrong results. Zendaya for example I could never see playing an ingenue type character who is sweet and innocent, while some of her features on their own are ingenue the way they play with her dramatic features makes for a more mischievous or sassy look like gamine.
this was so informative and helpful. The Anya TJ part really helped me cause I was unsure about my Ethereal Essence (I've been told I look like an elf or a vampire several times so I suspected I had it), and now I am pretty much sure 100%!! I hope we have more videos like that, hopefully there will be one with my top 3 essences cause I find it hard to find models/actresses to look up for inspo and I find it a bit of a hard mix. I'm (I believe) Dramatic, Ethereal and Romantic (some ingenue somewhere but it would make a messy mix). Also you look UNREAL in this video, pretty as always of course!
It would be so helpful for this to be a series! And also if you could walk through in more detail the face line drawing part and identifying essence from that.
Amazing video! When Olivia Culpo came on, I immediately thought "I'm probably similar to her". People have typed my face as natural and classic but nothing natural looks good on me. I thought of myself as D/C/R!! Now I get it thanks to this video! It's the combination of Yang and yin that could seem "blunt" at first but when you look closely it's Yang Dramatic and Yin Romantic that are combined in a small space, the face. And then there are elements that are balanced and that gives us some classic essence. It's so good to understand!!! Thank you!!
I LOVE that you are spreading awareness about the Kitchener system!! IMHO it’s the most comprehensive and accurate system for understanding your lines, essences, colours and style suggestions. Slight correction… Kitchener didn’t add Ingenue and Ethereal to Kibbe’s system - he actually pre-dates Kibbe’s system. McJimsey was the one to incorporate Ingenue. Kitchener later added Ethereal to her system, and Kibbe chose to omit both when developing his. As a very dominantly Ethereal essence, with secondary Ingenue, I couldn’t find my place in Kibbe’s system. It left only Romantic, which was very hit-and-miss. It is the only option Kibbe offers for all-yin women, but I lack the womanliness/sexiness that Romantics are iconic for. The style recommendations were also helpful only 50% of the time. The demarcation of a belt at the waist for me is ALL kinds of wrong. Cropped lines are wrong too (compared with Ethereal’s very elongated lines!). Pinks and reds and medium-to-large floral prints also wrong. I get drowned out. The super pale colours of the Ethereal palette and the watercolour prints or delicately abstract flowers with lots of detail work better. I find Kibbe an easy place to begin, if you want to do a self-analysis. Once you have a general sense, moving onto Kitchener is far more thorough IMHO. And if opting for a professional consultation (I’ve had both done), I find Kibbe unnecessary. Kitchener tells you all of that and more. Including a personalised colour palette specifically for you. I aspire to become a Kitchener PSC consultant - right now just gathering knowledge and confidence in what to look for! Thank you so much for sharing all your videos, Ellie-Jean 💝🙏 It’s really helpful to see what others are looking for, and how it all comes together in an outfit! 😇😘
Many people argue that Anya Taylor-Joy looked better as a brunette but her essence analysis shows why she is drawn to blonde. Long baby blonde hair is the epitome of ethereal and gamine. It highlights her youthful looks and gives her edge, quirkiness, and elvish vibe whereas brunette made her look more natural and classic which is not her.
brunette is to harsh and dark for her, dark brown looks very unnatural on her. Her roots look like a natural blonde shade but I would not put her in something darker then a light brown imo.
I think the reason people say she looked better as a brunette is because that period of time was before Anya changed her face with plastic surgery and lost so much weight. If you see her in her early movies like Thoroughbreds or The Witch, she’s still ethereal and striking but she doesn’t look that weird. The plastic surgery and weight loss really added so much dramatic to her face.
As if there isn't any brunette elf in the hobbit, vox máquina ir other fantasy movie, book, game....Anya could die her hair white or peach or back to brune and still look elvish
@krisalys6118 She was 18 when she starred in The Witch. It came out when she was 19. But she was 20 in Throughbreds. And even a year later, at 21, she still looked the same as in Throughbreds. Then shortly after, her appearance took a drastic turn. She lost so much weight and got some plastic surgery that sharpened her and made her look more dramatic/otherworldly. I prefer her look before these drastic changes.
@@BbGun-lw5vi I agree. She looks like a normal fairy with brown hair, but with the blonde and the cosmetics she looks more like high fae. In real life I think the brown hair is much better. Nothing in the world could make her look like a classic. She and hunter schafer are the epitome of ethereal essence imo.
I used to follow the "Truth is Beauty" blog which is where i first started deep diving into body types and beauty. It is such a great starting point for anyone to learn from basics. One thing i like about how TIB explains Ingenue, Romantic and Ethereal essences - all 3 are Yin dominant, but Ingenue is the Girl (sweet, pretty), Romantic is the Woman (sexy, seductive) and Ethereal is the Wise Woman (otherwordly, mysterious). I wouldn't put Selena Gomez as the epitome of R beauty. R essence to me is Kate Wnslet or Beyonce (lush, soft and womanly features). Laura Linney would be I (youthful but in a sweet rather than mischievous way, which would be more of Gamine) and Cate Blanchett would be E (strangely captivating, impossible to define).
It'll be interesting to see a comparison of essential pieces with different style roots, for example what a basic white tee would look like with a fire root vs a mountain root! Or similarly, basic outfit formulas with different style root combinations. I'm still struggling with the specific features that define each style root - long vs short sleeves? Necklines? Puffy vs fitted? Things like that!! Love your videos 😄
The percentage rule makes so much sense on how we can have a bit of an essence that's very much significant yet not dominant. I'm a 6ft tall FN with what I believe Natural being my primary essence, yet I now realize I also must have some Gamine as people often tell me I look youthful/mischievious. I don't look my best in purely Gamine lines(I've tried and the effect is mostly like an overgrown baby haha) but I express it through accessories, makeup and patterns on a more Natural 'skeleton' .
I did find it useful. I'm interested in bringing out personality and essence. Being the whole package. It really elevates someone's look instead of looking disconnected or awkward, I think.
I have this thing in my mind, I don't know if you do video suggestions but... How to dress the essences harmoniously but against their typically associated "styles"? Like how to achieve gentleness and coziness for dramatics, glitter and glamour for naturals, casual practicality for ethereals, modernity and maturity for ingenues, etc
Hi Ellie, I loved this video and how detailed it is. I was wondering if you could do a video on incorporating men’s essences as I see this system as more comprehensive in how to express your style compared to other more generic menswear advice. Though I understand that there might be less of a demand, it would be amazing. Especially as someone who has more of a Ingenue/ Romantic blend that isn’t really seen in men’s style as much. But generally your videos have helped me get a better sense of my style and self so thank you so much, keep up the great work.
I would love to know how to make ingenue essence feel modern and ‘cool’- it’s hard nowadays when the fashion feels more dramatic/natural. Anyone else struggle with this? 🤷🏻♀️😅
Olivia culpo has had a lot of work done. During her miss america/usa and miss universe days she looked more ingenue and gorl next door but i dont think her new face looks off probably because of her dramatic essence. I saw quite a number of comments on her vogue beauty secrets video praising her bone structure before being told in one of the replies thag she had work done which is a good indicator of her dramatic essence.
@@ritaevergreen7234 i noticed that too with western/american women. It's probably because of the culture of wanting to look sculpted and womanly rather than "childish" which what a lot of them view being cute as. But ive noticed sincw the boom of kpop and other east asian media in the west/america its become a little more acceptable to be called cute and use it as a compliment since being called cute is a good thing in east asia. I can only vaguely speka for kore since i study their culture and watch their media the most but it's even acceptable and can be a compliment for men to be called cute too.
I had a session with Kitchener years ago and my main essences were Youthful and Natural, subtle blended and bright lively. I can’t remember all my percentages and my color palette is buried somewhere, but the title for my palette was “Iridescent Dragonfly.”
Interesting! I’m a soft classic, & most people think I have mean girl vibes/ bitchresting face, or I just look peed off 😠 kinda cool finding out, that it’s actually my dramatic essence!
Could you explain the ethereal in your face? I personally have a hard time seeing it, whilst the ingenue and classic influence in your face is very obvious 😊
She has dramatically wide set eyes and a metallic smoothness to her face even when animated. I think it’s going to show up much more clearly in another ten years, while the ingenue might not last.
Think I'm now starting to better understand why the headmistress of my school once said I had a peasanty kind of face (in a good way apparently XD) and even though I'm 29 I still get people telling me to let them know I've got home safe after a night out. That classic, inguene combo is just making me always look like an innocent peasant in an 18th century painting!
Just reminding you about this video Ellie. Not only did you say you enjoyed making it, but everyone could tell you were enjoying yourself too. I think you're a bit on a roll right now with all your style roots content, but an idea might be to bring in your style roots to this face/body essence/kibbe content if you need a break or whatever. This isn't a video request or anything, just wanted to remind you of a video you seemed to be excited about and also performed well.
I found myself loving the idea of kibbe. i always loved exactly the people with my look its crazy interesting how it plays out in life. Cocoa Styling makes great Content for more darker skin shades. Love it.
No matter how much I wanted to be hot or sexy like my best friend growing up, I'm always the sweet, cute, childish looking self. I don't mind it now, and I am still feminine, but I wanted to be bold, sensual, and glamorous!
I just had my colours and kibbe done by Merriam style and I think I'll also get yours because I love to have multiple opinions and then I can form a new wardrobe with both opinions in mind! xx
This was such a fun video! Really loved all the tips throughout. I would love to see another video on essences on face types with makeup and hair recommendations!
I LOVE this type of video. It's really useful just to hear your thought process while you are analyzing different parts of the face/body and the elements of different outfits/articles that these people are wearing! Thanks.
Really enjoyed this video. Please help us ingenue essence girls to NOT look like we are eternally 16, but without trying too hard with makeup and sensual outfits (classic ingenue here) that would be awesome :)
IMO as an ingenue it is probably the most frustrating essence to have as dominant, especially when you are no longer young. Those of us who have it know how annoying it is to be eternally associated with what is probably the most reviled demographic in all of western culture, the tween girl. So yeah. It's not an essence you want to lean into too much once you are an adult, but you can't ignore it either or you look even younger--like a little girl playing dress up. For me it always helped to go to my other essences to pull out the adult aspects and then add ingenue elements--the easiest way to do this is with light or soft colours, which matches most ingenues' own colouring (that's part of what makes an ingenue, the child colouring). The softer colours can bring the ingenue vibe without being childish, but allow you to follow the lines of the other essences.
Thank you! It's been helpful for me to think of these things separately too, though I'm still learning how to combine them in a way that makes sense: I've a soft gamine body with a classic/romantic/ingenue face.
I hope it's okay if I say it, but the makeup you're wearing in the video looks so much better on you than the otherwise very eye-catching eye shadow. I think it's because of your classy essence, where a lot of things can look a bit too much. You look really very very pretty in this video ❤.
Aw thank you haha, this is really kind (I had just been to the hair dressers the day before, so this is the remains of a salon styling - always the best haha)
Thank you so much, Ellie-Jean. Thanks to your videos and presentation of Kitchener essence theory and your own style roots theory, I am finally figuring out how to work with my face and body. Even at 45, it’s not too late to find yourself! I know my essences are classic and then ethereal, but I’m sure I have at least a third one in the mix. It’s not ingenue, even though I tend to look very youthful for my age. Is there a test or activity to help hone in on minor essence traits? Or does a person just have to dress with styles to reflect different essences until finding one that seems most suitable?
Ellie-Jean, I’m struggling with matching shoes types/shapes to my outfits (especially keeping them practical working as a kinder teacher). Could you do a video to help?
I would love to see an analysis on someone like Hayley Williams bc she has such an alternative style. I’d be super interested to see how she’d be categorized!
I have a classic face.....like a renaissance model. I truly came into my own after I grew my hair very long.....3ft. It just fits.❤ Now I see some dramatic...thank you.
Thank you so much for this video! Originally I was wondering if I had any other influences because I could only really see ingenue but when I tried the line drawing I could see I have 1 natural, 2 ethereal, and because I don't know if I have a romantic or ingenue forehead, 2 or 1 romantic, and 5 or 6 ingenue. I can really see why I could only see a lot of ingenue.
oh a lot of people tell me that they were scared to talked to me or thought im depressed, and a bunch of other people told me how calm and innocent and sweet i look, both of those are wrong about me, i guess im shifting
13:37 I think geometric, all-over prints like houndstooth, plaid, gingham, stripes, etc. tend to work well on classics as long as the print is the same all-over to create a monochrome effect since it brings out the symmetrical features and essences in classics? while with dramatic it brings out their sharpness through structure, which can also be done through color-blocking but geometric prints are a nice balance between the two I think - of course the fit and styling of the clothes tend to matter most though!
This was always confusing to me so thank you for this video. From this video (and my terrible drawing) I figured my face is a mix of some features Olivia and Zendaya have. For example, I have strong nose and face shape of Zendaya but lush lips, size of face, brows and eyes Olivia has. So what I figured is I'm some combination of romantic, classic and ingenue at smallest percentage. I got ingenue when you were talking about Zendaya and how she looks so young and sweet in light pink and that is totally me and I don't like that side of me so I don't play into it when I'm getting dressed
I believe this video helped me see my almond hooded eyes and pointy chin as the missing 10% essence I have, so thank you so much! It will be very interesting if you could merge this information with your style roots, meaning how much of each essence has one style root
Great video (as always 😊). Just one thing I dont agree with is the term yang in association with etheral. Yang is pure masculinity and etheral is according to Kitchener the highest form of femininty.
The thing is, knowing myself and my face very intimately, the realisation that I don’t have a strong natural influence is what got me into all of this stuff in the first place. Anything slightly unruly or relaxed does not and has never made me shine, so perhaps there’s traces of it, but focusing on that certainly doesn’t help me!
I feel like my top 2 essences will be ingenue and dramatic. I’ve always had RBF and have some sharp looking features on my face along with looking babyfaced and some soft features. As for my third essence I have no idea. The only vibes I get from my face are ingenue and kinda fierce (dramatic like Kim k and Megan fox). Maybe I might have some natural cause my jaw and face shape is wide. I’m going to draw the features of my face like you said cause that does sound like a good idea. Takes away everything else and just leaves the lines and shapes of my face to observe.
I think I’m a classic + natural + romantic!!! the examples you give really helped narrow it down☺️ I could also possibly be ethereal + gamine😆 it’s harder for me to define my body type bc it fluctuates a lot 😅😅
Creo que Zendaya tiene gamine como esencia principal. La vez que interpretó a Bruno Mars en LSB y parecía como si no le costara trabajo es una prueba contundente para mí.
All case studies to me have similar foreheads - would a long, broad forehead be considered a yang dominant feature? I have high cheekbones, long oval face and small almond eyes, very Scandinavian features so would say dramatic dominant. My lips are full and plump (my largest facial feature so I often go for lipstick over anything else). RE forehead, I would say mine is akin to Nicole Kidman/Meryl Streep. Is this dramatic, natural or classic?
my facial features aren't sharp or defined, they're very rounded and have a youthful look but my friends always say I have an intimidating aura which boggled me. When we started wearing masks is when I realized I have "intimidating" eyes. They're round yet sharp at the same time the best I could think of a similar pair is alexa demie's. Basically i look like im bored or uninetersted all the time. I can also never figure out what my essence is
This sounds like me. It’s kinda like a Siberian cat where they look cute but at the same time have intense eyes that intimidate depending on the mood. I get this a lot from people but I have a Latina background with native features that stick out. However i am mistaken as being taller than I am and even labeled modelesque at times. At one point I’ve had two people in school tell me I remind them of a cat and that I could be black widow from the avengers from the way I carry myself which can be assertive.
This is deep fama
I love how Anya Taylor Joys name reflects her different essences. Anya for ethereal Taylor for Gamine and Joy for ingenue.
This is so cute
My name has joy in it and I'm an ingenue so this makes me happy :)
That's so interesting. Reminds me of my mom. Her maiden name is Faye which sounds Etherial and Ingenue. Faye sounds very angelic and fairly like. You guessed it, her dominate types are Etherial, Ingenue, and natural.
My name means "Woman of God" or "Divine" and it's number is 33, it seems that my main essence is Ethereal. What a coincidence!
Joy sounds like a classic name, not ingenue.
such an interesting video! I think something to point out about Zendaya is she's always playing teenagers- and she has been forever now which makes me think people have really latched onto her ingenue essence- and if olivia culpo or anya taylor joy tried playing a teenager we wouldn't believe it. it makes me think Zendaya plays up the dramatic/natural side with red carpets/street style so she looks a little older and people remember she's not actually still 16
I think Zendaya keeps playing teenagers because she's been typecast as such. But her face isn't that ingenue looking.
It lengthens out her career, tho. 👍🏻
@@pixi3d3ath47 her height definitely gives her away a bit- and I think she also wears baggy clothes on euphoria because it helps flesh out the personality of the character
well said, there is something youthful in her appearance
I definitely want more case studies. But a break down of which features go where would be so helpful to be able to type yourself. Like what constitutes what.
I think she has another video on this
Essences aren't just facial features, they are also body, voice, gait etc and the way you hold yourself and express yourself. Things like the way you look when you smile and your demeanour are important to essence. That's why identical twins can have different essence blends.
Also, Kitchener didn't create ingenue, he just added it back in, despite it being ignored for a while.
Completely agree. I'm quite reserved (classic), down to earth (natural) and womanly (romantic).
Agreed! I don’t think I look that ingenue relaxed, but my smile makes it very obvious
Hmm. Thats a good point. I have a super young face (I'm 31), but a super womanly, feminine body, hourglass to Pear. But..I'm also pretty short (I'm 5'3). And! I have a super husky smoky voice. So I dont know what I have going on 😅
@@tofoo6174 that’s not how it works
I very often get both ‘intimidating’ and ‘sweet/innocent’ which seems contradictory! But I could see my fave having both dramatic and ingenue essence.
Same
Think of Mia Goth or Jenna Ortega
@brownnies Flores that makes sense, I do think I give off a similar vibe to them!
Me tooooo
@@EvangelineB6 omggg yess Jenna for sure!!!
Color can help you steer others’ perceptions of you. DYT personality typing helped me with the color part more than anything.
Agreed
I really enjoy these types of videos where you do a break down of different examples. So helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
I'd love this, too.
That makes sense! A mash up of Morticia/ Inigo Montoya/ grown up Snow White work best for me....everyday ;)
i love this theory! Didnt realize that halloween costumes were just as important to think about lol
@@jenson22bjI so agree. It would be nice to see people who aren't perfect looking. 😂
Just did the line drawing and it helped me so much! I got dramatic+ ethereal + gamine. So excited to put together some awesome outfits!
Agreed, thats why I don't believe in combination of extremes like ingenue- dramatic ,how a person can look sweet and old at the same time?
Ellie Jean, I think the slight side part is so flattering on your face type!
Thank you so much! ♥️
this was so informative and helpful.
Yes I was analyzed by Truth is Beauty Romantic ethereal natural.. it’s helped my shopping a lot
@@Adhara740 that's awesome!
You described very well the 3 yin essences!
I love watching these videos.
Could you make a video about dark autumns?
You are glowing in this video!
Thank you so much! This is really kind ☺️
I would love to see this analysis on a better mix of poc and indigenous faces!!
I would love to see more of these. Particularly ethereal as it seems to be tricky to differentiate.
I would love to know how to make ingenue essence feel modern and ‘cool’- it’s hard nowadays when the fashion feels more dramatic/natural. Anyone else struggle with this? 🤷🏻♀️😅
Look at what the band The Last Dinner Party tends to wear, I think it could give ideas
Now I need a vid that combines THIS with your style roots system ❤
This hairstyle looks great on you. I prefer it over the normal style Ive seen in the other videos.
I notice that a lot of ingenues who end up getting work done end up looking like a dramatic.
The way you’ve done your hair in this video really suits you!
I love these types of videos from you :)
I'm so glad! Thank you :)
Yes I see the Natural more
She has dramatically wide set eyes and a metallic smoothness to her face even when animated. I think it’s going to show up much more clearly in another ten years, while the ingenue might not last.
I personally have a hard time seeing the ingenue essence, because she's just young...
I love when you wear blue 🩵
Very detailed video, thank you Ellie-Jean!…I so appreciate the time you have obviously taken to highlight all this great information ❤
Wow, you look stunning here, idk if it's a different make-up, but it looks subtle and really highlights your natural beauty ❤️

I am very glad to finally rule out Ingenue as one of my essences. This video explained Ingenue vs Romantic very well :)
Thanks.
All of your videos are really interesting. You had a lot of fun with this and did a really great job breaking them all down. Thank you!
wonderful content Ellie, i understood wide set eyes to be ingénue or natural.
I’d love a deeper breakdown on facial features! Especially “flaws”!
Hahaha! Your bird was tryna give its opinion too. Is it weird that I love the bird chirping in the background
The thing is they’re most vocal when they can hear someone speaking, they literally do try and join in 🤣
How sweet ❤❤❤
This was so so so helpful!!! I identified with Olivia’s essences so much…I had a hard time figuring mine out before
I hope it's okay if I say it, but the makeup you're wearing in the video looks so much better on you than the otherwise very eye-catching eye shadow. I think it's because of your classy essence, where a lot of things can look a bit too much. You look really very very pretty in this video ❤.
I love this, I would love to see this become a series!!
Very interesting topic! & your hair looks extra lovely today :)
Aw thank you haha, this is really kind (I had just been to the hair dressers the day before, so this is the remains of a salon styling - always the best haha)
Very interesting!!!!and done with passion and grace ! thanks a lot!
Thank you too! Glad you enjoyed ☺️
This hairstyle looks great on you
Thank you so much, Ellie-Jean.
I think I'm finally getting it...this video was great!
Wow your hair and makeup is stunning today. Always looks good but something extra here love!!
I’m a soft dramatic but essence wise I relate a lot to romantic…it’s interesting and fun to think about at the very least 💕
I have seen the in-between of oval and square face shape be called oblong. A long face with angularity.
Great video!
Classics can wear prints but it's better to keep it as far away from the face, rounded patterns and/or very small patterns are the best.
Wow, you’ve given me the best understanding of this. 🙌🏾
Whatever you did with your makeup and hair is totally working for you!
I love your videos for knowledge, inspiration and- asmr! You're so relaxing!
Such amazing insights- just subscribed!
Thank you so much!
Ingenue and romantic are more feminine than ethereal.
Ngl I kinda want to hear her talk about Anya in full length. She is so uniquely gorgeous
Recently stumbled onto your channel and have learned ALOT about how to dress myself finding my color palette essence etc thank you! ❤️🔥💃
your definitely have a dominant natural essence ellie! Love the video
@@elliejeanroydeni agree, i clearly see a lot of ingenue + ethereal in you 😃 plus a touch of classic...
This video and dear peachies comes out at the same time. Yesssss
Which video?
Romantic, ethereal, and classic. I thought I had ingenue but I don’t think so.
Wow! My favorite video of yours! keep up the good work.
I think that my essence is ethereal. Body type maybe dramatic. I’m figuring it all out. It really helps putting together outfits
Dramatic and ingenue can't coexist in the same person.
Would love to see another video like this one on natural kibbe body type celebrities
This is so informative. Please do part 2!
Your hair looks great in this video! 💙
I think I’m a classic + natural + romantic!!! the examples you give really helped narrow it down☺️
I could also possibly be ethereal + gamine😆 it’s harder for me to define my body type bc it fluctuates a lot 😅😅
it feels illegal to be this early, but looking forward to the video!
Creo que Zendaya tiene gamine como esencia principal. La vez que interpretó a Bruno Mars en LSB y parecía como si no le costara trabajo es una prueba contundente para mí.
I’m really loving these videos!!
