I was working away 6 day weeks, years ago. I came home one weekend to find my wife was having an affair and i was no longer a home owner with 3 kids, i was now homeless. My world was shattered and my wife had emptied the bank account. i had nothing left to live or work for, i went from a man who had never been out of work in my life to someone who didnt want to live. I lost my job, my children and my home. never judge anyone in this life, my mother died months later and i just gave up. Today i am older and have a good life but i would never walk past anyone homeless and judge.

Such a touching documentary James. It’s so nice to see a fellow Glaswegian and someone from our generation go out of their way to make a difference. It’s really made me want to do more to help and makes me so grateful for everything I have.
What an absolute hero , for taking time out of his own life to go out on the streets and live as a homeless person , my attitude towards the homelessness as certainly changed xx
Appreciation from China, sir. When I went to Oxford last year, it was the first and only time I've been to the UK. And I was shocked that there were such a lot of homeless people. But I've never imagined how tough their lives were. I feel ashamed that I'm not able to empathize them, but at the same time this film made me appreciate everything I have at present. Thank you for this documentary. Best wishes.
Yes I noticed when I was in Shanghai and Beijing this year that there were no homeless people, and I only encountered one beggar. I was only there for 2 weeks but the Chinese appeared to be so sociable caring and supportive of one another and foreigners like me :))) and seem willing to do any job to make a living. Can't wait to visit again.
This is heartbreaking, but a real eye opener. Documentaries like this should have millions of views, to make more people really take notice of the scale of the homeless problem in the uk. Watching this makes me realise just how trivial my own problems are, in comparison.
I just came across your channel mate with blink MacDonald And watched the interview with Stuart nellis I was In rehab with him a few years ago I was homeless myself addicted to heroin and years of crime and prison I'm clean 4 years now and have a home fiance and 3 kids Anything is possible never give up just have to seek the help and be serious about it. Great channel bro All the best from Ireland
I've a question for you, ive been trying to get clean for years now and I've been on and off it for a few years at the most off it was 9 months, what would be your advice to help keep your mind busy and not give into temptations?
OMG what a powerful venture. I havent been able to cry for a long time James but I am bawling at this. I have always been an advocate for animals that are abandoned, mistreated and abused. I volunteered for many years at the Humane Society and took my 3 children every xmas morn to volunteer at the animal shelter before coming home to a nice breakfast and gifts. They learned a lot from those experiences and then many years later my eldest son found a homeless person for each of us and gifted them with $25 worth of non-perishable food items, asked permission to take their picture and enclosed it in a xmas card to each of us with an explanation of that persons story. It was such a loving gesture and though not as intense as your journey it still remains forever in my heart. You are a dearheart James and I send all of my very best from Canada to you and yours. Biggest hugs.
Iv just watchrd this again. Fair play james for doing this i was homeless for 2year back in 2005, its not fun especieally from october wen it starts getting cold, i was lucky i had a swimming baths wherevi could go and lie rite next to the heaters outside to keep warm. It was so lonley, im lucky now to hav a flat to keep warm in now. Thanks to a luvly old lady who let me shower at her house once a week and she got me intouch with people to get me a flat. Everyday i wake up warm i think about her what she done for me but she is sadly not here now.. so fair play to you james for doing this st Christmas time.its a hard time for homeless at Christmas...
James you a good hearted person heart off gold you never judge anyone got a good soul well done love and luck for you and your family keep this good work up making people just to stop and think for a minute and to help others x
hi from Australia (January 2020). Today i watched this documentary . I was reminded of what it is to be homeless. For a very short time that was my story too. I have tried to do my best to help everyone and to share Gods love. Today my life is one of those changed lives. Its tough but its not impossible. What a champ you are James.. thank you
Unbelievable James , I swear I’ve never cried so much .. I’m as guilty as you were of walking past .. I’ll change my ways simply because of this documentary.. keep up the good work mate your a Gem 💎
Today is 02/01/2024. I needed to see this! Thank you James for putting yourself out there to open my/out eyes. Without going into detail, I can declare that I’ve been an overindulged brat …. And it ends now! The guy with the dog,the sign ‘I am a (homeless) person’, your mum just loving on you …. Those hit hard!
Well done for this mate, one of the best documentaries I have saw in years, it has made me look at my home town Glasgow in a more caring way, thank you 🙏
I'm watching this on Christmas night...moved to tears. So much pain & heartbreak in our world. I was married 21 years and raised 5 incredible, loving, hard-working & compassionate children. 13 years after divorce I'm jobless for 11 months and if not for the kindness of a friend that offered a roof my youngest son (19) & I are homeless. I've experienced age discrimination..applied for 400 jobs and not 1 offer in almost a year. Have health issues now that cause me pain 24/7 but have not been approved for disability. What do people do when they fall through the cracks like I have...no resources available...no help..its scary & very disheartening. God Bless you for making this documentary. We can ALL help. Donate, volunteer at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter, just show some compassion to our fellow human beings.
This is the most saddest video i have ever seen ive watched it 3 times and i still get upset and cry james you did not have to do this but you wanted to show people what being homeless is really like big respect james.👍🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴❤
One of the most real videos I have ever watched thankyou for making it, I will be putting my hand deeper in my pocket from now on each time I see someone living on the street.
These folks are all someone's son, daughter, mother, father, uncle, aunt etc. They deserve care, love, compassion and respect. No-one is infallible to addiction, homelessness, prostitution etc. May God bless each and every one of them, and well done for highlighting this.
James we take our hats off to you for doing this documentary, The fact that people are homeless and or hungry in this day and age is both heartbreaking and unnecessary. Bless you
Watching this a 4 weeks sober really hits home how far I've came and Seeing this brings it all back. Seeing family's happy n wishing that was me.I will be ok if I focus on my recovery and what I do have and not what I don't Thanks James
You’ll get there big man, I’ve been there it was the best thing I ever did in my life going sober , my brothers going through it now, it’s hard days sometimes, but well worth it, good luck to you 👍🏻
brought a tear to my eye more than once. the respect you deserve for this cant be put into words. good man. i text my wife halfway through this and said we need to do more for homeless people. defo opened my eyes more to the real world.
Wow,...what an amazing thing to do. As a Glawegian, this film has not only been eye-opening but absolutely heartbreaking to watch. Im ashamed that I have been one of those people that have walked past a homeless person without giving them a second thought This needs to be shared to as many of us as possible. After seeing the difference that taking five mins out of your day to ask someone how they are or if you can buy them something to eat or even a hot drink etc can make, I will definitely make an effort to do this from now on. You are a 🌟 James English !
Aye I'm guilty of it myself. I'm down south working away from home and after watching this I seen a young man sitting in a shop close so I went over and asked if he was ok and gave him a tenner. Afterwards I thought bet he buys a tenner bag with that. Then seen him afterwards he shouted over eating a takeaway drinking a cola or whatever out a straw giving me the thumbs up. I felt good but felt really bad for thinking the worse of the lad. I'm going 2 keep my eyes open for this kid and hope he finds a way out of his situation.
I'm actually getting angry watching this at the lack of compassion shown by my home people of Glasgow. I understand we all have shit going on but it takes nothing to stop and talk. They are still people, mothers, father son's and daughters not some kind of trash. I have always taught my son not to be negative towards homeless people as we don't know why they are there, he is 6 and shows more caring towards people on the streets than most adults. We already drop some coin in, but the next time I am back down the road, I will make a point of buying them a bag of various items. This is one of the best " on the street docs " I have had the pleasure and also heartbreak of watching.
One of the best things I’ve read. I think it’s brilliant that you are teaching your son about homelessness and that homeless people are actually people and not scum. Fair play. 👍👍
You never truly understand until you have walked a mile in that persons shoes.. never judge others because you could be looking at your self a little down the road.. Very inspirational documentary .. My Hat off to you James..
What a fantastic documentary. Well done James, for showing the raw truth about homelessness. So many people forget these people are humans, going through the biggest struggle of their lives. Amazing that you completed such a hard, brave and selfless task. How on earth people are having to live like this, is shocking....
This was my first Christmas alone away from my new family. After watching this I don’t feel as alone anymore. You should be proud of yourself James brother👍🏻 well done mate.
Hi James. I have come across your documentary while preparing for a Housing Support Worker interview here, in Glasgow. I hope it goes well so I can contribute to tackling the problem of homelessness by doing best I can to support the suffering ones. I admire your determination and courage to sleep on the streets in order to make people aware of how big of an issue it is. I've found this film extremely valuable in my research and will certainly mention it to the organization I have applied for. Thanks for the hard work. We need more people like you. At last, I wish you and your loving family a wonderful Christmas!
Hats off to James English..Excellent work, heartbreaking emotional documentary, better than anything the mainstream channels can offer! Nice to see people raising awareness and helping others at Christmas.
I cried, your a brilliant guy, I'm about to head over and donate, I'm also now more clear of the work that needs to be done, bravo you trooper x Ps, amazing film
Good job James. That took bottle. I had a wee tear I'm my eye when you met up with your family again. I work away and have missed loads of special events including Christmas. Good luck for the future.
Great thought provoking video thankyou fella. I was never homeless but used to street drink and hang around with plenty. Even met a homeless welsh couple in sheffield once as we walked home from a club and invited them to stay in a spare room in my flat, they stayed there for a couple of months, that was in the early 90s. Im comfortable but only a couple of bills away from being homeless, most people dont understand how close most people can be to being homeless
So many people are one bill way from homelessness.......its a disgrace that the system can make people live on the edge under such stress. Then if you are fortunate enough to earn and have a roof over your head, the tax goes up with each penny earnt. A disgrace
I’ve just come back here as I remember watching this years ago. Life has been unfortunate for the last year for me and I have found myself homeless. This will be my first Christmas homeless and I am trying to mentally prepare myself. James has helped me mentally so much this year and even DM’d me on Instagram once. He really is a good man and he spreads awareness on things that matter. If this doesn’t prove that to you I don’t know what will. I don’t drink or do drugs. Not everyone that’s homeless is a drug user. If you see someone homeless this Christmas, be kind. Even a conversation can warm you up sometimes. Especially inside. You don’t always need to give money. God bless everyone. And Merry Christmas 2024.
Just watched this video mate and it’s absolutely heartbreaking seeing people on the streets with loved ones elsewhere. What you done was brilliant mate total respect James love your videos
This is an incredible thing you've done to raise awareness... Guaranteed that you've inspired lots of people to get up and help in their local area, but you sacrificed a lot in doing this, huge respect for giving up your time. Must have been hard to keep going. You're an amazing person.
Hat off to you bro you have raised an awareness of the plight of the homeless and the lonely could happen to any one of us ..by the grace of God go I ..keep up the good work brother
Wow. That struck deep. I remember when we were younger, in our local town, we got friendly with a select few (5-6) I was a manager of a domino’s pizza store. I used to make 5-10 XL pizzas ready for them to share out. The building next door was a day centre. So it was welcome by the residents. I often wonder about their story. But didn’t wanna pry. Fantastic watch and really pulls at the heartstrings.
Such a touching documentary 💯 it makes homelessness feel a lot more real, you are incredible for doing this Mr English, your a beautiful person on the inside and outside 😉 keep being you James, don't let anyone change you gorgeous 😘😘
James English the homeless film was eye opening James, there for the grace of god goes i, pure liberty for some of them, a lot of them have mental illness and through no fault of their own or neglect by local councils and governments find themselves on the streets, i suffer from Anxiety and Depression i have done since i was 15 im now 54 years old, Great Work, your Family should be very proud of you, its also great to see a Glesga boy highlighting these things! 👍😉
I truly believe everyone should watch documentaries like this so they humble themselves, it's so easy to forget to be grateful for what you have, brilliant documentary well done x
can i tell a story? i am 17 years old and have a dream to go into the computing field. This has been an ambition for me for all my life. I was born with Autism, ADHD and Asperges syndrome and i look at every day being a curse for me with this condition. watching this documentary, i notice my life isn't even a quarter as bad as these amazing people we as a community look down on. I cant believe this hasn't gone viral. It should as we all need to make a change in our view of others. As i sit here with college assignments that need doing, i notice that i could do so much more with my life. My dream is to get an amazing job, get a girlfriend that i love, settle down, have a family and a good life. Some of these people who live on the streets may have had these experiences but then lost their way due to alcohol or drugs. And once again, sitting here, im going round scenarios in my head of how i could change this. Getting the job i love and providing and caring for my family, or getting the job i love, living with my family a normal life but also working on projects to save these souls from the cold pavements. So far i have come up with scenarios where local councils shut down the shops/businesses and the roads for one day and all people homeless gather in one area and not just a couple here and there on the corners of streets, and where someone hires a news helicopter to come and report the amount that they can see from the sky, to see all these people in need and share it on the news for once instead of reporting all the occasional murders here and there or events going on in the world when there are so many other people in need closer than they will ever realize. My vision is to see this event happen in every town in a country or city (which i know is a long shot) so we can all see what people were like before hand and acknowledge and recognize these beautiful people. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
don't assume its always alcohol and drugs, having a disability is all it takes sometimes or a housing bubble crash or losing your job or someone you love. Having lived it I observed, most turn to drugs and alcohol to ease the pain of their situation and become addicted, perpetuating the problem. The only reason that didn't happen to me = my disability dystonia, I cant drink alcohol or do any hard drugs because it makes my dystonia worse and more painful. I do use marijuana, it helps with my pain and reduces my dystonic storms. its ironic how most people with disabilities work harder than normal people who take what they have for granted. never give up.
Cracking documentary James , people need to realise that every homeless person has a different story behind the reason they are in the situation in the 1st place and could happen to anybody with a change in life's circumstances , I have definitely seen a rise in the numbers homeless in Glasgow and it breaks your heart , you can tell a lot about a country by how they care about the people most in need in society , keep up the good work James.
Came across your channel a couple of weeks ago mate and just watched this, I take my hat off to you total heart breaking to watch so sad that in this day and age people are sleeping on the streets, keep up the good work on raising awareness.
God bless you for doing this brave man I bought a homeless man a cup of coffee today and a cake last year I went into town with my husband and gave a quilt to this homeless lady xx
You know I cried twice watching this documentary maybe because i've been homeless twice or what James English was saying on Christmas day but it really hit home. I've watched a lot of homeless documentaries and by far this is probably the best one I've seen one where the do it for 24 hours, 2 or 3 days but never a whole week. Hats off to you too James for having the bottle to endure what thousands of people go through everyday in Britain, this documentary needs national attention and should have more than 10 million views because the amount of awareness James English is raising is phenomenal this documentary deserves an award
FairPlay James I have started watching some of your podcasts and there great but this documentary is touching and inspiring hope u can make more like this that really raise awareness ur a good man and I wish you all the best ❤️
I only recently watched this compelling, inspiring, exemplary piece of filming. You went far and above any other documentary filmmaker James when highlighting Scotland's homelessness by embracing wholeheartedly their daily struggle which deserves high recognition and all praise 👏🙌
1st Feb 2019...... I'm absolutely broken after seeing this..... instead of saying that's sad, they need help, how about we be the help. Well done on highlighting not only homelessness but the life threatening issues that accompany it. 🙌🏼
About time somebody shines a true light on the current problems with homelessness in pretty much every major town and city in the uk! Ps to the sick so called people that abuse a homeless man or woman... you should be ashamed of yourself and should be serving time in prison for your utter disregard to a person’s feelings! Well done on the documentary
Well done James. You are so strong for lasting 7 days when you really didn’t have too. This had made me realise how bad it is in our city. I will definitely give some cash to the next homeless person I see. I will also donate. Thank you for raising the awareness.
James this absolutely broke my heart. A truly real no holes barred documentary. Thanks so much for getting the message out to more people. It looked tough, but like you say it was for seven days and you’d a loving family to return to.

Such a touching documentary James. It’s so nice to see a fellow Glaswegian and someone from our generation go out of their way to make a difference. It’s really made me want to do more to help and makes me so grateful for everything I have.
Nicole Mc thanks nic 💚💚
James English just wanna say I've seen more I can relate to on your channel than av seen in years online....great stuff fella
burants think you
What an absolute hero , for taking time out of his own life to go out on the streets and live as a homeless person , my attitude towards the homelessness as certainly changed xx
RD4590 thank you 💚🙏🏻
Yes I noticed when I was in Shanghai and Beijing this year that there were no homeless people, and I only encountered one beggar.
I’ve been there for the last 10 years thank xxxx I’m in my own place this Xmas all I need now is my kids
Nice to hear your getting back on track bud
Hope your well on your way to seeing your kids mate.
Hope this is a much more comfortable Christmas now god bless you

Well done Andrew now you no the meaning of ilIts easy gtn clean it’s staying clean is the hard part .
Biggest hugs.

hi from Australia (January 2020). Today i watched this documentary . I was reminded of what it is to be homeless. For a very short time that was my story too. I have tried to do my best to help everyone and to share Gods love. Today my life is one of those changed lives. Its tough but its not impossible. What a champ you are James.. thank you
Thank you 🙏🏼 ❤️
Unbelievable James , I swear I’ve never cried so much ..
Just watched this for the first time and it makes you realise how lucky we are what a heartbreaking documentary

Amazing work James was such a tough watch but has really opened my eyes to the struggles these people face everyday.
Scott Collins cheers Scott
These folks are all someone's son, daughter, mother, father, uncle, aunt etc. They deserve care, love, compassion and respect. No-one is infallible to addiction, homelessness, prostitution etc. May God bless each and every one of them, and well done for highlighting this.
🙏🏼❤️
James you are honestly an amazing person, if only the world had more like you it would be a far better place for everyone

James we take our hats off to you for doing this documentary, The fact that people are homeless and or hungry in this day and age is both heartbreaking and unnecessary. Bless you

brought a tear to my eye more than once. the respect you deserve for this cant be put into words. good man. i text my wife halfway through this and said we need to do more for homeless people. defo opened my eyes more to the real world.
Wow,...what an amazing thing to do.
As a Glawegian, this film has not only been eye-opening but absolutely heartbreaking to watch. Im ashamed that I have been one of those people that have walked past a homeless person without giving them a second thought
This needs to be shared to as many of us as possible.

@@garyswanson5272 the thing is even that tenner bag can giv them some comfort
The amount of tears she’d during this duration could probably fill a bath! Video has made my compassion for homeless people stronger ❤️❤️
Niomi_dysart 2005 💚💚
💙💙💙
Selena Hall thanks Selena 🙏🏻💚
never look down on anyone unless you are picking them up,shows you have a good heart ,need more people like you

Anita Patalan Thank you Anita. I hope you have a lovely Christmas also 💚
Hats off to James English..Excellent work, heartbreaking emotional documentary, better than anything the mainstream channels can offer! Nice to see people raising awareness and helping others at Christmas.

Sandy Wilson thank you sandy for the support 🙏🏼💚
Great doc, doesn't need all that sad music. It speaks for itself
Im comfortable but only a couple of bills away from being homeless, most people dont understand how close most people can be to being homeless
mel the bell thanks mel. 💚
Keep your chin up. I wish you well. I hope you get on your feet soon.
@ thank you brother 🙏🏼
Just watched this video mate and it’s absolutely heartbreaking seeing people on the streets with loved ones elsewhere. What you done was brilliant mate total respect James love your videos

This is an incredible thing you've done to raise awareness... Guaranteed that you've inspired lots of people to get up and help in their local area, but you sacrificed a lot in doing this, huge respect for giving up your time. Must have been hard to keep going. You're an amazing person.
It’s Oct 1 , 2020 and I’m just watching this , well done James your bloody awesome dude !!!

So heart breaking 💔 I'm cried so much watching this. You're amazing for what you did. God bless you.
Hat off to you bro you have raised an awareness of the plight of the homeless and the lonely could happen to any one of us ..by the grace of God go I ..keep up the good work brother
Thank you Malcom
This has opened my eyes and made me wanna help. It's heartbreaking to see this in the world x

Good luck with whatever you do Andrew. We don't realise how lucky we really are.

I wish you gd luck for the future keep your dreams and goals alive for the future.
God bless you and i hope your dreams come true keep faith in yourself
Ali
You will get there mate.
My mam said there always someone worse of than you and she was right. Home you get to do what you want to do. Andy England
Cammy Feron thank you Cammy 👍🏼

Love to see how there all doing now in 2020 james Made cry love your work keep it up.
Very moving, Very thoughtful, your a good man James, Peace and Love brother.
