The first time this was brought to my attention I didn't know what to make of it and after revisiting it again today, i am just as puzzled as i was before, if not more! But i mean that in a complementary way, for as others have mentioned here already your version is indeed compelling, unnerving in that you are never quite sure what is coming next and it leaves you with more questions than answers which is very clever. At times this is as far removed from the original as humanly possible and yet there are moments when it transcends the original. Bravo! JF
We did things people wouldn't believe. We used attack synths set them on fire off the shoulder of Orion. We watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will never be lost in time, like… tears in rain. Time to fire up the synths again, time not to die, but live. X
Being the Human Android I am and being vocalist in my Numan Tribute band for 5 years I just cannot stop playing this. I post it most mornings on my facebk profile. This track has to be heared and spread its too good not too. Karl heared I've connected to you and I'm in awwwwe of you. Amazing awsome. Listening to this track make me feel even more thankful of my Human Androdism. I realy want to work with you Karl heared. Your new massive follower XxNumanAndroidxX You my friend are awsome and unique xxx
Aw your kind words have made my day Shaun, thank you my friend. Us Androids must stick together, so yeah, I see a future where a collab/mashup or jam is defo on the cards and something that gets my oscillators running. Chuck us a link to your band, interested to hear your sound. All the best. K x
The sounds you have chosen for Underpass are totally in keeping with your version of this. Keep coming back to listen to this - thanks for uploading. Brilliant.
@iltemplar Thankyou SOooo very much for your kind comment. We took a risk with these songs, trying to imagine what they would have sounded like if they were written today. Chuffed you liked them. All the best my friend x
WOW! Thankyou SOooo much for your kind comments MrBrit! I will be performing some more reimaginings later in the year. Come along, it would be great to have some Numanoids in the crowd! All the best my friend x
@4scrivener8 Ha ha thankyou my friend. I am looking at doing some more re-imaginings of my favourite songs which i hope to unveil in the new year. All the best
@TheReplicant16 WOW! Thankyou SOooo much "The Replicant" for your kind comment. Cool name, by the way! We hope to play another BIG show soon. Would be great to have some Numanoids in the crowd. All the best x
WOW! Thanks alot for your comment "hotpress" You've made my day, no make that my week! Be sure to check out some of my other vids which you may like and lookout for my next one called Dreamland which has more than a passing resemblance to Gary Numan. All the best my Electric friend x
Chuffed you liked our Modern/Retro take on these 2 Electronic classics. I guess Numan is in my DNA. The list of gear we use is extensive and as for that sound at the end of Random. Well it started off on a hammered dulcimer, then we ran it through lots of effects until it was close to the sound i was looking for which was of a car breaking down. I play it on the SH-101 and it is all controlled by the maestro STENT through the Eurodesk. Catch us Live when we support Orbital at the Jamm 14/12/12!
Loved your comments ha ha ha filming early rehearsals lets me see where i need to improve before unleashing the set and your right it did sound class Live. The Synths are firing on all oscillators now i've added a Moog and a Juno 8 to our setup! All the best emmetor x
@vanillacoffee Thankyou my friend. I hope to bring some more Electronic gems kicking and screaming into the 21st century! Any suggestions? I really appreciate your support. All the best
Big thank you for the fast reply and for taking the time and trouble to give insight into what goes into the process to create such an original take on such classic 80s tracks. Big fan of your remix of " random " . It deserves a wider audience and would go down a storm in any dance club.. You ever thought about doing a studio version for commercial release for download? I'd buy it !! :o)
Funny you should say that JH as quite a few people have asked if we are going to release Random and also if we are going to play it at our next show. I think a studio version would be kinda fun to do so watch this space! Thanks again for your comments. They mean alot to me. Most of my vids have a Numan/80's vibe. If you want to keep up to date with all things Kalkulus head on over to my facebook page. All the best my friend x
Danke for your comment. I don't try to "Mimic" anyone but i guess my musical heroes are part of my DNA and come out from time to time. So where can i hear this "Numan" voice of yours? Perhaps we can have a sing-off, loser buys the beers! Ha ha ha
@themachman19691 Ha ha thankyou themachman! You can't better the original's so i didn't try. I thought doing them different yet the same would be more interesting. I'm seeing John Foxx Live at the XOYO tomorrow, can't wait! All the best my friend x
I've replayed this many many times over and still as catchy as the very first time. I got a few muzo type questions please ? May I ask what gear you used and what piece of gear is doing that hypnotic rhythmic sequence which you turn down at the end of " Random " ?? The beats + that sequence and the melody = pure electronic heaven, sooooo catchy it should be made illegal !!! LoL BTW you not only look like Numan but ya even got some his mannerisms down as well. Jenna, babe a rama ;oP 80s forever
Aw thanks again Scott, we will be putting this and a few brand new re-imaginings out on record in the very near future. Come join my Kalkulus facebook page to get all the very latest news. All the best my friend x
@@shaunfox5370 Hi Shaun, this was a jam between friends that turned into something special. Kalkulus is the name i record under and now that the music world is opening up again after covid I hope to upload more jams of this nature. Stay safe, all the best. K
Truly astonishing work you guys (and by god I should know) absolutely fantastic and my thanks and admiration go at to you all so much so I will post this up on my music site - did you ever release this? If not FFS why not? Also what about a mix of Are Friends Electric and The Garden - wow that would be something else! Thank you for sharing this and I hope you have major success you damn well deserve it - SUPERB!
+Steve Morris Cheers Steve for your kind comments and support. We did record studio versions of these tracks, they can be found on my Random on the Westside album. I've been working on a few new re-imaginings these past few months aswell as writing some new stuff. I will be unleashing them at Live shows later in the year. I tend to cover the lesser known tracks of my musical heroes. Look out for Swimmer 1 and The Garden by Foxx, Replicas and God only Knows by Numan and Tension by Nash the Slash. Stay tuned and I hope to see you there. All the best. K :)
+Karl Heard Thanks for the heads up - I posted this vid on a forum I am on and on my own too - weirdly one of the members on the other forum knows Jenna - how spooky is that? What it does for me is simply knowing that even in this day and age people are still influenced and creating around what I lived through musically was the very early days of what I call the Futurist movement (now referred to - incorrectly in my opinion - as New Romanticism) . Keep this going guys and give me the heads up where the album you referred to can be located or upload it. BTW apart from my earlier suggestion The Garden is a phenomenal toon and I look forward to hearing your work on that Guys, excellent, keep them coming and keep me posted. Thank you for the listening and visual experience - you made and old Futurist (if there is such a thing) very happy Steve xxx
+Steve Morris Thanks again Steve for your support, means a lot my friend. And yeah i'll defo give you the headsup when I'm touring. I'll be performing a fullon synth extravaganza! ha in the meantime I've added a couple of links (See above) where you can hear studio versions of Random etc. All the best. K :)
I cant believe you're letting us in on your practise session, next you'll be offering us a can of Amstel. Anyway, of course the sound is awful, but I'm sure it's so much better through that mixing desk!! I like this, the drum-mach's a little too Orbital-ish. Keyboards sound great - whats on your RACK there? MicroKorg? what else? D50 on the other side? WISH I THOUGHT of making an engineer a member of my band, what a $%^king great idea!!! I love the sounds betcha this could be class live! SOLID!
@hazzardousuk In hindsight the show went down a storm based on audience reaction but i found it hard to enjoy as everything that could go wrong DID! But that's the thrill of Live performance. Congrats on your remix of Films. I loved what you did with it. You made it sound current and very urban. The Random 2 Album was the most interesting and original as it took just the essence of Numan which was the point. Thanks for stopping by Alex, what musical delights are you working on now?

I started to listen to Electronic Music in the early 70's when I was in my mid teens and as I clicked on this video, I find these renditions confusing. Maybe I am having a senior moment.
Thanks for your comment UW. These renditions are re-imaginings and not note for note cover versions. Add to the fact they are performed as more of a live improvised jamm rather than trying to present a clinical studio take on what for me are two of the best electronic songs of the late 70's early 80's. Your Confusion is understandable and appreciated. All the best x
Cool girl drumming but lose the 200% Numan clone look coz we know it's a cover. If he looked like, say, David Sylvian and sang Numan that would blow the audience minds
The first time this was brought to my attention I didn't know what to make of it and after revisiting it again today, i am just as puzzled as i was before, if not more!

@carld1967 I welcome your comment my friend. "Disturbingly compelling..." I like that! lol
Ha ha ha cheers Colin f. This was just us messing about. For the realdeal checkout the most recent Live @ Brixton vid.

Muchas gracias my friend, a young Gary Numan i'll take that all day long being a not so young 46! ;)

Can't really hold a candle to John foxx, sorry. First part is decent though, glad synths got better and more 80s sounding again since 12 years ago.
