Brilliant interview guy’s and Billy Currie is a top bloke. Very down to earth but an incredible talent. I bought the Vienna album in 1980 when I was 15…..I’m 58 now. Still a massive fan. I had heard Sleepwalk on the radio and totally loved it. I can still remember playing the album for the first time. It totally blew me away! I was very lucky to see Ultravox in Glasgow on their Return To Eden tour. I had waited 30 years to see them and it was worth the wait. Thanks again guy’s. Best wishes from Scotland. 🏴

Perfect opportunity to expand on the origins and hows why’s and wherefores of Astradyne - probably the greatest instrumental ever written - and …. Arrgh! 😀

A great interview lads. I really enjoyed it. Being such a massive Ultravox and Visage fan I would have had a ton of questions for Billy but I appreciate that you had a set amount of time to conduct the interview. I would have liked his take on Warren's sacking and the band splitting after U-Vox. I would have liked to hear about his post-Ultravox project Humania and his nineties Ultravox albums too. Perhaps Billy wouldn't have been keen to discuss some of those topics though. Anyway, keep up the great content. You really are spoiling us!

One of Billy's work that I like the most is Transpportation, which was not mentioned here, but I believe was his first work outside Ultravox. Besides the music I love artwork of all Ultravox albums, they were real pieces of art. When you knew that they were designed by Peter Saville, then just by looking at them you could anticipate how good the music was going to be... Thaks so much for the music and the memories.

enjoyed the 2nd as much as the 1st. Im so glad you just let him talk (and wander off a bit) with very little input from yourselves. You get to know the guest far better if hes not constrained by endless questions. A bit like the John Edginton interviews. He's clever at that too.

Foxx's Metamatic is one of my absolute treasured, favourite albums. I always thought it is Foxx's masterpiece. But it's only now that I realise that Billy's immense musical influence must have been hanging over John during that time because right out of listening to this interview with Billy I can suddenly hear it all over Metamatic. To have a new perspective on something that's been with me for over 40 years is odd but I'm grateful for the insight. I've always admired Billy as a musician but I've not seen him interviewed much so greatly appreciate this, guys. Thanks👍

Bizarrely, Billy reminds me of Barnes Wallis (inventor of the bouncing bomb), but Michael Redgrave's portrayal of Wallis in "The Dam Busters" lol.

I used to deal with John Currie, his brother. I also remember Billy played for Johns 40th birthday in the garden if memory serves ! Distant memory now.

Absolute gold dust ! The influence Billy has made on so many artists and fan's is immeasurable. I've been lucky enough to see him perform a number of times over the years and he was always mesmerising to watch and listen to. I could listen to Billy all day and to hear his comment re opening with Astradyne on the tour was great, that track was a force majeur and is still as stunning today as it was 43 years ago ! Great interview guys! I always wait until you drop the 2nd part to dive in so I can watch it all at once. I'm going to have to make deep dive into my Ultravox collection. I remember talking to Ronny Moorings of Clan of Xymox last March , he said that Ultavox was a huge influence on him. It's blatantly obvious on the first Xymox LP released on 4AD back in '85. Bravo again guys!

Some what belatedly got around to part 2 and enjoyed it very much however afterwords I don’t know why I felt like a listen to western promise and as billy and you guys had mentioned the Steve Wilson’s mixes so I plonked it on only to be horrified that it sounds like Steve had gone all steve Lillywhite and try to make the track sound like simple minds sparkle in the rain era horrific I had to quickly whip out my original vinyl and have a sit down until normal order was resumed !

I'd always wondered why John Foxx's Touch and Go appeared to share some of the melody of Mr X. Billy explained (in the previous part of the interview) that he and John had been writing songs when John decided to part from Ultravox, so clearly both took some of those musical ideas on to their next projects. I'd guessed it might be something like that, but it was nice to hear it confirmed. It makes me want to review the two albums again (Vienna and Metamatic) to listen for other possible musical commonalities. While I love JF's best stuff as much as Ultravox, it must be said that of the two tracks, the awesome Mr X is just head and shoulders better than T&G (which is one of the more throwaway songs on Metamatic IMHO), although the music's used in different styles, so it's maybe unfair and/or unwise to compare.

Ive studied Metamatic and only found the Touch And Go connection. Ive got a load of bootlegs with the band playing later Foxx songs but the link between both is tenuous. The songs have different lyrics for starters.

Not a fan of stuff like that. Would rather have new material, although I guess thats not going to happen now.
Deluxe editions of the first 3 albums done in the style of the Vienna/RIE/Quartet boxes would be nice.
Fun interview, but PLEASE can we stop with this "vinyl is outselling CDs" bullshit?! I collect vinyl and tend to buy most albums on both vinyl and CD, but it's a complete nonsense to say vinyl is outselling CDs. It's making more profits because the price and mark-ups are much higher, but in terms of volumes CDs still outsell vinyl and certainly get listened to more if recent reports that 50% of vinyl albums are purchased by people who don't even have a turntable can be believed.
