We are back to our Monday schedule, and in South Korea for the first time! Above all else, this case will teach you the importance of keeping your address free from social media. Have you ever experienced a stalker? What steps do you take to keep yourself safe? Let me know below.
Stay safe, and see you again next Monday! - Adrian.

Yes, twice. I've had to move, change my phone number, and once i changed my name. I don't use social media, and i never post anything specific on the rare occasion that i do. I wish I knew more about self defense. I feel that's a really important skill to have. Also i built a support group of people i could trust. I have roommates that are badass now and im no longer living in fear. (Also 10 years of therapy.)
That being said, my best friend is someone i met through online gaming and I've gone 5000 miles across the world just to hang out and those were absolutely some of the best times of my life. But i took precautions too. I didn't travel alone, i took a friend.
Meeting someone you met online for the first time can be magic. But always always always be safe and guard your own back. Don't isolate yourself, but be skeptical of everyone until they've earned your trust. Because you can think you know someone and they turn out to be your worst nightmare. Trust your instincts. That's my best advice. Stay safe, fellow heartbeats. ❤️

A lot of Asian media still glorifies stalking, jealousy and stuff like that. If one person relentlessly pursues the other and they eventually give in, that's often seen as super romantic. Just look at how many people think Killing Stalking is actually romantic. Or take any of the anime out there where one person regularly forces themselves onto the other and everyone swoons.

When I was a young, young girl, I was stalked for over a year. Every place I went, wasn't old enough to drive, that man followed me. Police were called regularly, but said they could do nothing until he did something to me. That was comforting. He finally stopped when my mother rammed her car into his. Words were exchanged, items were shown to him, and I never saw him again. I was a lucky one, for sure!

I'm glad they don't just arrest people based on a single accusation; to have your freedom taken away solely on a someone's accusation - no other evidence, just their words - is not a justice system I personally would want to live in.
Because in that world someone who simply doesn't like you would merely have to accuse and the accused's entire life would be hobbled by a "criminal" background.
There's a reason police can't and don't do anything without it being _in flagrante delicto_ (meaning they witness it happen in their capacity as LE) or until there are substantiated patterns or further evidence that the accusation has enough merit to _immediately_ take away someone's freedom (via arrest).
At the very least I'm hoping the reasonable people agree that a single incident of stalking isn't grounds for arrest (unless, of course, other criminal things occurs, like assault - but that's it's own thing and not stalking), but that they should call if there are subsequent acts OR - one exception for the single incident - if the stalking went from quiet and just weird/unsettling to an actual verbal threat.
Otherwise, you can move to a country that has such martial authoritarian law-type justice, like North Korea or Somalia. Sure you will love it there

stalking is one of those crimes that isn't easy to prosecute or punish by its very nature. they also can't punish someone who hasn't broken any laws. someone popping up in your life when they don't have a reason to is weird, yes, but it isn't a crime. someone blowing up your phone isn't a crime either, neither is walking behind someone at night. unless they change the law, this isn't going to change. you can't punish someone who did nothing wrong (legally), nor can you violate their freedom for no reason. sucks but that is the way it is.

My mother had a stalker when we were living together, he would sit across the road and watch the house and come on to the place at night but he always used to do it when I wasn't there, I used my mothers car one night and he made the mistake of approaching it, I got out and told him to look in my eyes, I then told him I had money and was going to pay someone to visit him (he wasn't the only one that could find out where a person was living)
I then told him what they were going to do to him and that I was more than happy to face charges if he came around again. I guess he knew I was serious and we never saw him again. I'm not sorry and would do it again. When the police can't or won't help you, you have the right to defend yourself, remember that.

It's not uncommon that the news in the western world is where families first learn of the deaths of their loved ones, the police don't even have time to inform the families personally. This also gives families the ability to cope with the loss of their loved ones without media crawling all over them like maggots.

In most cases it's a man, but there was a case in North America, of a female doctor (someone in a respected position, a profession that's supposed to save lives) Shirley Turner, who killed another doctor she had been involved with after he broke up with her. She later fled back to Canada (the crime was in the U.S.) and ended up committing a homicide suicide by giving her baby (the child of the affair with the other doctor) anti-anxiety medication and jumping off the end of a wharf into the ocean.

Prevention is more important than raising the potential fines and jail time. I understand it is a step in the right direction. But this man has been charged with online abuse, stealing, going in womens bathroom, and sexual assault. When he sent sexual voice recording to a minor should've been the line drawn, he should've been in jail for at least a year. It's not because of the severity of the crime he did this time but the accumulation of all his past crimes and the fact that he harrased ANOTHER woman should be a clue that he isn't going to stop unless he's given jail time. Once again the justice system has failed them.

Mental health support and therapy needs to be more widely available but I know a lot of places like South Korea still have a stigma attached to it. Kids need to be taught how to handle rejection and not getting what they want, nobody should think they are entitled to a relationship and should instead learn how to be happy alone.

I hate this, Ive experienced all the same stalking as she experienced, from people online. All the same tactics, making a new account and pretend to be a new person and befriending me. Its so disturbing, at one point I felt so harassed I became suicidal cause I felt that was the only way to escape him. He spread false rumours about me and was very sexist and said "You need a man to protect you, a little woman like you cant think for herself" etc. Gross. This has happened with multiple guys, not just one. It makes you scared to leave the house, it makes you scared that your family is in danger, I kept visualizing someone staring at me through the windows, I was afraid of the windows. Its suffocating and should be taken seriously.
Some of the worst thing, is that in my country, Norway, if someone googles your name, your adress and even a pic of your house and your phone number comes up immediately. Ive tried many times to get them to delete it, but its impossible. Which means anyone who knows my name, knows exactly where I live and my phone number. I absolutely hate it cuz im a very private person who likes to be left alone.

I hope “Ari” is in a better place and the Kim gets what he deserves. As a person with absolutely no friends at all and considered unattractive for American standards, I could never imagine or fathom the idea of a man stalking a woman that doesn’t want anything to do with him. Such a shame.
