It's so weird sometimes listening to Coffeehouse Crime while doing menial tasks. Victims are dead and gone, frozen in time, while I'm alive and washing dishes, cleaning the floors, or doing laundry. Gives me such a feeling that I can't describe.

Yes. The more they "get lucky" the more thrill it gives them. The more they think they are outsmarting or manipulating others the more powerful they feel and the more they want... more.

It's even scarier to wonder too, since so many cops are being found out to be abusers or corrupt themselves, how many times has a cop turned a blind eye or gone easy on a violent criminal not bc they're really that lazy or dumb, but bc they either are doing or would do the same thing and therefore just don't care...
It's disgusting how much women have to do. How we can never feel safe. When I was working late nights in college there was someone in town posing as a cop pulling women over when it was dark, in secluded areas. He even had lights on his car like an unmarked police car would. Since then we are "allowed" to find a populated well let area before we pull over. I think women should always be allowed to have a female police officer present. If a woman has to leave her car. Even then it isn't guaranteed safety, not by a long shot.
One of my favorite things about this channel is how the story is told in this clear, factual way, and every now and then a "he was a piece of shit" and "Australia, you fucked up". Gets me every time!

Yeah, I was never into true crime till I discovered this channel. And YT auto play tried to give me other true crime channels as recommendations, only for them to start with absolutely unnecessary and outright disrespectful dramatization and dramatic music, weird video editing effects and whatnot.

16 years. Only 16 years. A woman's life was only worth 16 years to their justice system with possible parole at 13. Disgusting. He takes decades from her, serves a fraction of what he stole, and then steals decades more from another young woman.

7 years clean from heroin addiction. My dad got me into it & started heavily using right before I turned 17 & my life was dedicated to getting my next high until I was 24. Was & still is the toughest battle of my life. I’m now currently studying psychiatry so I can turn/use my experiences and past struggles into something that allows me to genuinely help as many as I can. Amazing narration as always man, & I’m sure anyone can realize from what I’ve said that this story hits me personally. RIP Sarah- I’m sure if not for this monster coming into your life that you would’ve gone onto being an even more amazing person.

@@Jade-sc7ne yes. He relapsed into alcohol and I was living with him to help take care of him. And another guy that my dad let live in the house was a huge heroin addict so he and my dad started getting high & one day when I came home from my night classes they had just got a huge bag of heroin and my dad set some up for me and said “it’ll just be this one time”..which unfortunately dumbass me didn’t realize I had just opened the door to a life of heavy addiction, homelessness, jail, etc. So if anyone else reading this comment is starting to or thinking about dabbling in hard drugs like heroin or whatever else..trust me when I say that path will lead to nothing but absolute turmoil.

I originally came to Adrian's channel because of the horror and coffee vibe. Now, I'm just so impressed with how much educational content he has on different cultures and cities, how he discusses brutal murders with compassion and humanity, and how he memorializes the victims. Film nowadays loves to idolize psychopathy. We idolize violence. We idolize serial killers. And while that's exciting, seeing someone give the victims the focus they deserve is refreshing and really feels right. Thank you Adrian, and I'll be back for more ☕
13 years for destroying a family. 13 years? A mother lost her daughter, a father lost his little girl and he got 13 years. The only way these law makers will focus on punishment and forget about rehabilitation is by having these criminals housed in their neighborhood when these laughable sentences are completed

As an addict for over 20 years I can confirm just how true this is. I've been clean several years now though. It's a horrendous existence that's for sure, so many completely irrational, stupid decisions. So many times I risked arrest or even death by decisions clouded by the irresistible haze of heroins warm embrace or desperate want of the same. Free now, but with addiction you are sadly never truly free. You always have that monkey on your back/black dog that follows you everywhere you go. That voice in the back of your head encouraging you to just do it one more time........But you know that it wouldn't be just one more time. Others try to understand what addiction must be like, but only another addict truly knows. To others, even to one's self, addiction is an irrational and unfathomable beast.
I struggled with heroin addiction for nearly 25 yrs and her words in her diary really touched my soul, she was articulate, intelligent and beautiful and given the chance I know she would have beaten her addiction, because she wanted to, I am so sorry her loved ones lost such a genuinely lovely soul 💔

Start by telling just 1 person in your family & get used to them knowing & they can help you with the next step of telling someone else. If you love your family & they love you, they will help. One step at a time, day by day. I have been there, its not easy, but you want to stop, thats huge. Good luck

I have the strong need to write a comment, even though the video was made 8 months ago. The way the video was put together to tell the story of Sarah’s life and untimely death is so well put and beautifully done. You truly showed that just because Sarah had struggles with addiction, it doesn’t mean she wasn’t worth the life that was stolen from her. I didn’t know her, but I feel like I do. That all addicts, one’s still in the madness of addiction and those that are in recovery, all carry a bit of Sarah’s story within us. The ups and downs, the tormenting, abusive relationships we’ve endured and even made others endure being the abused and the abuser. Thank you for telling her story, and giving her a voice of one that truly deserved life, no matter her own personal struggles within it

As someone who went through addiction and rehab and is now finally seeing that light at the end of the tunnel, i feel so bad for Sarah. Her words hit home so hard... I'm a grown man and i genuinely teared up a bit. Good people make bad choices, and the guilt and depression is palpable in her words. The hopefulness is what kills me.
A very sad and tragic case indeed. My best friend met her while she was working at the pub here in town and he was drinking there with a mate. They became friends over time and after she was killed, he didn't want to watch or hear any news about her murder. It was just too much to bear for him I think. In remembrance of their friendship, he had his left wrist tattooed with "RIP Sarah" and a little bee. He always remembered and spoke about her, about the fun times. Such a shame that this happened to her and that this monster was allowed to be on the street, living among society.
Similar circumstances to the Jill Meagher case, as in the offender being released to kill again. The Victoria justice system has tightened up on offender's parole since and because of the murder of Jill Meagher and rightly so!

Addiction is such a deep slippery hole to try crawling out of. I pray for anyone dealing with it directly or indirectly it is the absolute epitome of suffering

I have always called him "Mike Light". just because i saw "That chapter first" and they are very a-like and iam shure that a LOT of subs are coming from him. ( but its only a guess) . BUT. there are a reason for the many subs , Adrian are easy to understand ( for non English spoken people ( he speaks clearly, and with no strange accent) and he are straight to the point. This case made me so angry. It came hot on the heels of the Jill Meagher case , in the same state, less than two months prior.
In both cases the perpetrators had prior convictions and in both cases, these women were let down by the justice system.
When people are too lenient because they don't want to "overly" punish people, or bring up cases when the wrong people are imprisoned, these are the victims of that mentality. The justice system doesn't want to take the responsibility so they kick the can down the road and people like this poor girl pay the price of that cowardice.
I’m Australian, I remember this story well, and I’m absolutely with you. Our legal system has been a laughing stock for a long time. Wanna know something…. Jill Meagher’s murder… pretty sure that was after this, and the monster that did it was on parole at the time. Cases like this make me so angry, as they’re so very preventable.

But how do you manage not to fall from a ladder, hit your head suddenly shooting up when you hear an interrogation scene starting/ the announcement of the killers first scatch/ the mentioning of some evidence pics, so you immediately HAVE to look at your phone quickly...
I mean I am used to utilise both of my arms/ hands, so I just can't grab my phone fast enough out of a pocket - and likely
a) drop my phone (happened before 20 times)
or b) the worst case scenario: drop it - but into water - like doing the dishes, handwashing clothes, or even spraying the bathroom surfaces etc...
I AM too clumsy to listen to more than lightharted YT content while working at all. Even with Bluetooth on in a 54 sqm appartement is difficult because I night loose the connection at the climax.....

I live in Australia. Our court system is rubbish. I love how you also made Melbourne look awesome. There's a reason they call it the place of 4 seasons in one day hahaha. To me it sounded like a drug deal gone wrong not just rejection for affection.
Either way it's still a very tragic story.
Mental health services failed Steven James Hunter. Not defending anyone nor saying anyone else is at fault.
The motive was definitely him being rejected by her after he offered her her drug of choice. He wanted to be paid promiscuously and she was not into him. She was young and pretty, he was old and dirty n disheveled looking. He wanted what he couldn’t get after bumming her some drugs n he knocked her off for it. He’s a monster that never shouldve been let out to begin with. Australia’s justice system is pathetic. The worst most heinous murders get a max of 23yrs with parole, including a high profile murder trial I was subpoenaed to testify for the prosecution for in the Melbourne Supreme Court after I became after an unknowing accomplice in the murderers escape to Thailand as I sold him his one way ticket back to Thailand only 5 hours after he had hacked at a Good Samaritan to death in public and was fleeing the country. I owned the travel agency at Melbourne airport where he turned up on his Thai passport to get an urgent one way flight back to Thailand. There were some small odd behaviours by him during my 20 minutes getting him an urgent one way flight out of the country, but nothing that made me think possible murder because being located at the airport we got the majority of urgent travel requirements for immediate same day travel for urgent reasons for f all kinds. It wasn’t until I got a visit at my workplace 2 days later by homicide detectives who interviewed me for 3 hours in a private room and recorded at my workplace. He was extradited back to Australia 5 years later to face the murder trial, and I was subpoenaed to testify which I did, very nervously. In the family and witness green room, protected by my minder to ensure I didn’t disappear anywhere before I was called in to give my testimony on the day about 8 weeks into the trial, I met his the victims mother in the private family and prosecution witness room where media were banned from. I remember asking her if she was also a witness as it was just her and I in the room after a lunch break together with my minder. She then told me that she was the victims mother. I remember the instant shame n guilt I felt in that moment and apologised profusely in tears because it was my actions at work that day that placed him on an urgent one way flight back to his home country as he was travelling on a Thai passport. I told her my regret that I didn’t pick up any signs that made it obvious to me at the time or raise my suspicion, because my actions caused her 5 years of pain and agony after losing her son in a horrific public targeted murder where he was hacked to death, before he was extradited back 5 years later. The fact it took 5 years to bring him back to Melbourne to face justice and that she suffered that whole time with no justice for her son, I felt responsible for that delay in her getting justice for her son. She was very compassionate as I cried whilst apologising to her and said she considered it very brave for me to testify against him at all because not all witnesses were willing to and explained how grateful she was that I was a key witness in helping him receive justice, and not to feel guilty for the 5 years it took to get him back because I didn’t know any different at the time. It didn’t change my guilty feelings for her and her son, but she hugged me tight as I cried and she cried with me only 45mins before I was finally called from the witness green room for my time on the stand that day. She said it was brave and courageous and how proud she was I was not too afraid to take the stand, and just having the chance to express my guilt to her for my part in delaying justice gave me a sense of peace and closure. An amazing woman, and the man got 23 years in prison with parole after 18 years. That’s is about as high as sentences for premeditated targeted murder get for these disgusting heinous perpetrators. I truly wish to God that he had gotten life in prison with no possibility of parole, but that is so rare in Australia that it blows my mind that these people ever have an opportunity to get out ever again. I will never forget the compassion and comfort his mother gave me and the strength she gave me to heal from my guilt for my unwitting involvement in his murder case by helping the murderer escape the country and five years of consistent work by Australian detectives to get him back to Australia to finally get him to trial. I will never forget. I hope his family has found some level of peace now, and if I helped in any of that process, I am proud that I was at least able to do that and play my role in locking this sick murderer up.
I cannot imagine as a mother, how terrible it would be to hear of the things this animal did to Sarah. There are just no words for that kind of pain and agony.
I can’t believe you’re covering this story. Sarah lived so close to where I grew up. Thank you for bringing attention to these lesser known, but important cases. You covering a story like this really shows how well you do your research and are helping to give exposure to stories that seem to be forgotten about, and have not received as much media coverage as they deserve. Melbourne unfortunately is not very liveable at the moment. RIP Sarah, you deserved a beautiful life, and to be able to fulfil your plans and dreams you had ahead of you. It always feels so much more difficult seeing a beautiful woman’s life cut short by the hands of a monster so close to home.

@@stephenalex4345 Thanks Stephen. I lived within 15-20 minutes of this area. Yes, unliveable in terms of our world record breaking lockdowns unfortunately :(. It’s been a really terrible time here for many. There are so many empty shops and small businesses in normally busy areas of businesses that have faced lockdown after lockdown and can’t withstand this one financially. It’s really sad. Suicide rates have increased, and it’s not really reported on. Mental health issues, domestic violence and rates of animal abuse have also increased. We have basically been forced to vaccinate, or face not being able to work or do things like go to bars and restaurants. We had to stay within a 5k radius or face huge fines and have a 9pm curfew. I think it’s now 10kms, but I don’t really pay attention to the news anymore as it is a morbid reminder of the current situation. We still don’t know if we will be able to actually return to normal even if we are fully vaccinated by the end of October/early November. People are really over it. That sounds absolutely terrible. So many small, successful family run businesses have been forced to close here in the UK too. Our current situation isn't the same as yours in terms of lockdown, however suicide rates and domestic violence are at an all time high. There is a huge backlog of cancer patients needing treatment too, and nobody is talking about it.
As for vaccination, the level of coercion is concerning. They are stripping peoples civil liberties unless they get vaccinated. Here in the UK, the JCVI who advise on vaccinations, told the Government not to vaccinate children, yet the Government are still going ahead with it. People need to wake up.

It actually means nothing. A lot of human had awful upbringing… do they kill, abuse or r*pe others? Nope… most of them are the strongest amongst our societies and lead the path to better ways. So many psychiatric and psychological studies regarding killers and other criminals proved this to be wrong.
@@solarose7820 however, most people who are violent in these ways have been deeply traumatized by their family or by society in some way. Just because not everyone with a traumatic childhood ends up violent doesn’t mean it doesn’t contribute to others becoming violent.

You cover cases so respectfully. You don't have the innapropriate "fun" vibe that I always find odd on crime channels. You deliver the facts, describe the victims beautifully and there are no "cute quirks"
Thank you for doing so many Australian cases! We have some issues with our judicial system. The police are good but judges are so lenient. Right now we have a huge issue in Queensland of teenagers stealing cars and going on sprees but the judges keep giving them a slap on the wrist. You said it well at the end, “we fucked up”.

Sarah's pain wasn't brought on by asthma, it was emotional pain. Something to do with her childhood traumas. THAT is why people turn to drugs - they are struggling with deep emotional, hence also mental, wounds.

It sounds like Chris was aware that Steven had been in prison for stalking and murder. He sent him out to stalk and intimidate Sarah. If it wasn’t for Chris she would still be alive. He is partly to blame. I hope he feels shitty about it.

Akakabuto was the strongest bear ever. He even had to be weakened first by a whole army of dogs before Gin could kill him with the Battouga.

I think there's a good chance he didn't word it like that. Something more like "hey your ex asked me to stalk + intimidate you and I wanted to warn you about what he's up to". I mean he's attracted to her, it follows he wants to gain her trust. She may have never known the real reason he didn't stalk her.

Oddly enough, there's more probability that these crimes in the US will get a harsher sentence than some of our counterparts. Our justice system is still imperfect, but small blessings I guess.
There is no reality in which the justice system catches every criminal every time. If that's your expectation, every justice system ever created will always be broken until the end of human civilization.

Imagine killing someone who is gone from existence forever and you can just resume your life and do what you want after only 13 years....
Murder should be life in prison with parole possible after 30 years or life without parole.
Oh, I've ALWAYS believed that parole should be abolished for all crimes, but particularly for murder and rape/child molestation. Personally, I think all murderers should spend the rest of their life in gaol, only being released upon their death, and every other crime they should serve the maximum sentence that can be given for the crime committed. Good behaviour should be rewarded with improvements to their current life in gaol. If they don't comply to rules, they lose whatever they get rewarded for their good behaviour. Gaol nowadays is more like a cheap/free hotel.

Her diary entry while in rehab broke my heart. I've been there and it's so hard when you work so hard and awful people in your life do everything possible to make it easier for you to fail.
This one is very close to home, I attended the school Sarah went to. I remember at the time of this tragedy it sent shockwaves around the town of Bacchus Marsh. It was a truly tragic loss and a murder that never should've occurred. To this day I find it sickening how Steven lured Sarah in with drugs knowing full well of her struggles with substance abuse. He took advantage of her vulnerability to drugs, he preyed on it. As always great job covering this case Adrian you did it with humility and respect. On a side note if you ever do come to Melbourne I'd love to have a beer with you.

WOW!! Finally a story that has the full blown truth in it! My Mum was born and bred in the Marsh and family still reside or have strong ties there... Sarah was known as a drug user but the local media here refused to report on that... and yes our so called justice system completely failed her! she did NOT deserve what happened to her... she was a beautiful young lady who had her demons but was fighting to over come them... I am glad the cretin who murdered her will never walk free again! I feel for her mother who has tirelessly fought for this sort of thing to never happen again! RIP Sarah

Now this piece of rubbish that took the life of this young woman just because he couldn't take no for an answer, i hope he rots where he is. Respect is a two way street that through mutual understanding and finding out about the other person, it is not take what you want just because you want it. Now, because of the Austrailian judicery service two innocent young women have died at his hands. It's all very well that he had the childhood upbringing from hell, it's called therapy and learning not to make the mistakes of his parents. Yes, i would not want any child to be brought up by his parents because they should be in jail themselves for the abuse of their son. I can’t remember if you have covered the story of a 29 year old woman, Gillian (Jill) Meagher, an Irish woman living in Brunswick, Victoria, who,was murdered in 2012. I am wondering when these ‘new laws’ were introduced as this poor woman was also murdered by someone who should have been in prison at the time she was taken. Great channel, love the concept. xoxox
I think this is the fastest I have ever seen a channel grow. Congratulations to the narrator and the team. Every single video catches my interest like no other true crime youtube channel. This and JCS are by far the best two channels in true crime youtube narration.
My top you tuber for true crime is Mike from That Chapter. He posts every Monday and Friday. Never misses and is very entertaining. He always makes fun of the killers.

By the sound of Sarah's diary entries she sounded like a very tenacious young woman with powerful incentive.Her words of encouragement to herself are admirable, I dont talk to myself like that, if anything I'm hard on myself. I'm certain if she was still alive she would eventually be "herself" again just like she wanted.

Yet I was not talking about her being a victim, assuming her reasons or judging her moral compass. I don’t know how many factors played here aside from this surface level story, when there are drugs involved it is fallacious to argue that she was making clearheaded decisions, attacking her true character regardless of how appalling those acts were. Sobriety is a life long journey and hers was cut short . I simply commented on her diary entry. I thought it was great. And even if I am present there are going to be things that may be outside of my ability to protect them from: illness and accidents being the most likely.
In the end, I just want them to be happy and safe. I’ll do everything that I can to make that happen emotionally and physically.

I've been an addict most of my life, a non using addict for almost 20 years now, and I've never heard addiction describes quite the way Sarah describes it. "When you can say no, you don't want to, and when you want to say no, you can't.'' Very poignant.
Congrats on being clean for so long. I lost a cousin to addiction and overdose. It's a disease.
