If I remember it correctly the members once said that they like to wear white at big concerts so that the people standing in the back can get a good look at them too (cause you can see lighter colors more clearly from a distance than darker ones). Excellent song written by Brian May and a few collaborators. Initially he said the song was written about a friend who was going through a difficult divorce but more recently he has admitted that the song was actually written about Freddie who was going through a very difficult break up. Brian never would have publicly spoken about Freddie's personal life/business while he was alive, that would have been far too invasive so he non-specifically said it was about a friend. Thank you for your reactions. Freddie wore black all the time when the band first started up but later he decided that because of the lighting, it was difficult for the audience to see him so he switched to white. Brian also wore a lot of white for the same reason. Roger basically wore whatever he wanted because he was hidden behind that huge kit of his anyway and when it was hot, Roger would often be shirtless. John also wore what he wanted for the most part.
Brian May playing the piano with his Red Special on his lap, as soon as he hits the last piano key he's up and strumming his guitar. Seamlessly designed and delivered flawlessly. I am anxious for your White Queen reaction, it's a spectacular piece of music that shows you how well they performed together even early on in their careers. 👑
Gorgeous song .. Freddie’s vocals are laser focused. Anyway, Freddie’s favorite pants were the white Wranglers! Another reason to wear white is that it’s easier to see Freddie from the back row seats!! He loved every single fan, they were very important to him. The bass player is also an electrical engineer and invented the Deacy Amp (from bits found in a dumpster). The Guitar Play (May) as well as playing multiple instruments, vocals and songwriting, built his main Guitar by hand with his dad and also a Dr in Astophysics (I personally think that is just showing off). Freddie Mercury was a graphic Artist who did all the Logos.
Brian worked hard on his PhD in astrophysics and is not "just showing off". He has done almost 95% of his doctorate thesis when he was a brilliant postgraduate student at Imperial College London (he was in the top 1% of his generation and he has an IQ of 180😮) but when Queen started to make progress in early 1970-ies he chose music over science (dropped his PhD) and that was the reason his father was so disappointed at him (because he thought Brian threw his education away) that they barely spoke for a couple of years. Brian returned to Imperial College in 2007 (at the age of 60) and spent a year completing his thesis of "A Survey of Radial Velocity in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud" so he received his PhD in 2008. You can find his work on the internet. Freddie was an exceptional artist and had a diploma from Art College. John earned a First Class Honours Degree in electronic engineering. Roger earned his degree in Biology. So there were all 4 brilliant minds and extremely talented musicians. Each one of them formed his first band at the age of 8-12. 😲 So without any one of them there would be no Queen.
👏👏👏 Brian wrote this beautiful ballad about a friend's troubles, but later he added, that this friend was Freddie, whose relationship ended around that time. Freddie was able to make you believe, that he really needed either somebody to love or someone to save him. 😉 Pls, check out You Take My Breath Away at Hyde Park 76. The song is about Freddie and Mary.Austin-- there is no doubt about it. Brian was "friends with" Mary before Freddie dated her and so he knew her quite well, obviously in addition to Freddie. Queen’s, “power ballads” never fail to give me the golly wobbles. Thank you for continuing your Queen journey. You will never be disappointed. Rock? Sure. Ballads? Um…yep. But also, English Music Hall, blues, C&W, novelty, 1950s R&R, endless genre.
In 1977 the News of the World album, has a blues ballad called 'My Melancholy Blues'. Sorry coach no guitar but a definite favorite. Please play for Mrs Coach
Absolutely phenomenal talented band I attended many Queen concerts in the 70s-80s including Live Aid at Wembley Stadium United Kingdom 🇬🇧 and Freddie’s very last live performance at Knebworth Park United Kingdom 🇬🇧 in 1986 crowd at Knebworth estimated to be 140 thousand , Queen gelled as musicians like no other band, there live flamboyant performances and Anthems are legendary, all the members of Queen have written No1 hits, Queens greatest hits Album is still today the best selling album of all time in the UK 🇬🇧, so proud that I have seen one of the greatest bands ever Live, great reaction thanks 🙏
'Save Me' is not my favourite Queen song (because there are a few that I love even more), but it's by far my favourite Queen single (yes, even beating 'Somebody to Love' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody').
Another great reaction, thank you. You need to check out another one for the ladies, love of my life live at wembley, just freddie and brian on stage creating something special as usual, just two instruments in this one , one guitar and one voice.
As you watch the early shows, you will see all of them wore either black or white (or black AND white). That was Freddie's coordination to do that. It was John that begged to be able to wear whatever he wanted to wear and then they began to stretch out from there. Black and white continued to be their main color styles. Early on, Freddie had one hand's nails painted black and Brian had the other hand's nails painted white. Roger plays and collects guitars (Brian says Roger has more than he does!) and plays other instruments, too. On his solo albums, he plays most of the instruments. John taught himself how to play the electric piano for "You're My Best Friend" and also played the upright bass. Brian doesn't think he knows how to play the piano, but really is quite good (see "No One But You (Only the Good Die Young)" - bring a crying towel). Freddie with the piano and guitar. Allllll of them were self-taught! Well, Freddie had a couple of years' lessons when he was a wee lad, but otherwise, he worked it out himself.
You should do you take my breath away live at Hyde park just Freddie and his piano don’t worry it’s just a short ballad but Mrs. Coach I think you’ll love it! It’s really really beautiful
Another beautiful reaction to beautiful music! Let's put it this way...If Freddie was alive half of the today’s bands won’t exist. Out of business. Queen redefined the rock music landscape and wrote the blueprint for modern timeless R&R. It is the most sampled group in history. Most of the concerts today all over the world start with one of their songs and of course we all know about the sports events. They are part of our culture. Few have succeeded to achieve this. The group had tremendous working discipline, ethic and drive for perfection. Bri and Freddie often argued about that drive. Bri was often unhappy with Freddie because he wanted everybody to play and sound perfect all the time. No exclusion. Their relationship was very complicated. Some people say Bri has always been jealous of Freddie’s out of this world talent. There is a lot we don’t know about that combo but there are things we know for sure. For instance, we know that Freddie never drunk beer or anything on stage. What you see on the piano is all tea with lemon and honey to maintain his vocal cords. We know that Freddie was a man on a mission to greatness, but he never disrespected or overshadowed the other group members intentionally. He was according to the band a very easy man to work with who supported their journeys and solos in any possible way. John had hard time at the beginning to fit in and thought that he was not always up to the task, but Freddie acclimated him and had his back. They had close relationship. This is one of the reasons why John stopped performing when Freddie passed away. The world ended for him. A very beautiful, generous, full of love and live human being left us way too early, as Elton put it.
I love this song - particularly this performance of it - which demonstrates yet another facet of Brian's musical talent. I'm so glad you both love it too. FYI, all 4 of them are/were multi-instrumentalists. As you saw, Brian can play piano - took lessons in classical piano as a boy - as well as a variety of different guitars (although his favourite is the 'red special' which he built from household bits and pieces as a teenager with the help of his dad). he can also play the organ, as seen on the Official video of 'Who Wants to Live Forever'. If you listen to the studio version of 'Love of my Life', which is a far more complex arrangement than the one Brian and Freddie performed live, you'll hear Brian playing the harp... although it is said that it was recorded one note at a time, and stitched together in production... John Deacon (bass guitar) also plays: electric piano, acoustic guitar, synthesizers, and for the Official Video of Who Wants to Live Forever, he taught himself the double bass because Freddie happened to mention that it would sound awesome. Roger Taylor (drums) also plays guitar, keyboards, and bass Freddie also played guitar, although he claimed he 'couldn't play for nuts' despite composing on it, and playing it regularly. Apparently, he once said that his favourite instrument was the crowd. Freddie once said, "In the early days, we just wore black onstage. Very bold, my dear. Then we introduced white, for variety, and it simply grew and grew." Personally, I think it was partly because white, and other pale and bright colours, made it easier for the crowd see what they were doing on stage when they performed after dark. And as usual, I seem to have written an essay... 🤣
Thank you Mr & Mrs Coach for this masterpiece of a Queen classic! Loving your Queen reactions, pls keep them coming, love from a longtime Queen fanatic in Australia 🇦🇺
There can be only one. Freddie Mercury was a genius who excelled in a magical generation the likes of which we will never see replicated precisely. In 200 years from now, they will look at Freddie, and other Masters such as John Lennon as we look upon Mozart and Shakespeare..
If you want to see john with his moment in the spotlight, check out Liar - Live at The Rainbow 1974. It's quite a long song, and John's part is mostly in the background,as usual, but toward the end, he gets to be the 'MVP'. And it's another great Queen song in their progressive rock catalogue.
Oh, that is good to know he gets some time to shine as well. Having said that, if you listen closely...I think he shines in them all...as his bass is impeccable.
Mr.and Mrs Coach....this song is the best feature of what Freddie could really master. He is in white so people in the back can see him He has stated that many times.Save me was a single everywhere but in the U.S, Electra records blew it and were not prepared to press the single. The Album produced 2 American number 1's,Another one bites the dust,Crazy little thing called love.
Brian is such a lovely guy, i have met him a few times and he is always gracious and courteous, he once sent me a birthday card which i still have. He is heavily into wildlife protection and againsed blood sports, he also has planted a wood called May woods for wildlife to live in and so nobody can hurt them, he is a dedicated Vegan so Brian is an all round nice guy.
Brian not only plays multiple musical instruments, he is an astrophysicist. Queen are arguably the greatest band ever. First view of your reactions, got a new sub. Wish you all the luck in the future.
March of the Black Queen, I'm going slightly mad, Innuendo, These are the days of our lives, The Show must go on, Was it all worth it, Scandal, I want it all, We are the champions, Another one bites the dust, Don't stop me now, My melancholy blues - these are songs that I could think of right away.
Also, Brian May is an astrophysicist. He wrote a thesis that proves that girls with robust posteriors, create the force that causes the earth to rotate on its axis.
Thanks, Coaches! first of all, in earlier days, Freddie wore more black, but as they became more of a "stadium" band, white just shows up better in the lights for the fans... This beautiful song was written by Brian (who, by the way, could play almost every instrument... although he didn't feel as confident on keys as on guitar). You may not have noticed that Brian was playing piano with his guitar in his lap, so he could jump up for that solo...and the switch for him on guitar and Fred back on keys... the entire band was amazing... and this is one of their best concerts! Appreciate your reactions... look forward to more...
Yes, we didn't comment on it but did notice it, and saw that was a very fast switch from piano to guitar for Brian. Quite a talented band! Thanks for watching!
Hey coach, all 4 of them can play the piano, brian wrote a song on their 4th album called 'good company', he sings it aswel but he recreates a jazz band with only his guitar and if you did'nt know better you would swear it is woodwind instruments, give it a listen
He’s in white for the same reason many drummers prefer white drum kits on stage. White not only shows up great but takes looks good with any color of light. You most certainly can’t miss body movement on Freddy.
Hey all... WOW, another GREAT reaction... TYVM... Yeah, Mrs. C., I believe Freddie was probably told in his earlier years he wore black and white a lot, and white is much easier to be seen than black... yes, they are all multi-talented musicians... that is just another reason to love them!! They know their business!! By the way, did you notice Brian had his guitar laying in his lap while playing the piano?? The man is always ready for anything... "White Queen" is a lovely mesmerizing "power-ballad" that contains a beautiful "conversation" between the piano and the guitar... quite unique and totally unforgettable... Another wonderful masterpiece is "Love of My Life" in Rock-n-Rio, a two night festival in Rio where it was reported 250,000+ fans paid to see, but then the gates were torn down in the chaos and an estimated 500,000+ people stormed the gates... truly amazing this crowd sings in English back to Freddie when their primary language is Portugese... When you do the LIVE AID concert, please don't forget, they also did an encore song to close the night called "Is This The World We Created?"... a short but beautiful song NOT written for this concert, but written as a "filler" for their last album... most reactors never realized they played the encore and it is hardly ever shone... Thank you again for being so appreciative of our favorite band... they are our life's-blood... and it's always such a delight to see other people not only enjoy but spread the word about Queen to other generations of listeners that haven't yet known their brilliance... blessings to you both.
We sincerely appreciate your kindness. We did notice the guitar in Brian's lap as he played, which explains how he transitioned to guitar so quickly. We appreciate all the great info in your comment!
He's not always in white. Each tour, each member had their own wardrobe selection, and for those of us who have been watching since 1974, we can tell what tour it is by what the members, especially Freddie, was wearing. He got more subdued as the years went on. He was some kind of Persian peacock back in the early days. That's when *I* fell in love with him. I was 10. Anyhoo, this song here was from 1980, written by Dr. Brian May, the gent on the guitar.
White is for better visability to the audience. If you watch early 70's dvd's at the Rainbow and Odeon Hammersmith, their black outfits made them almost disappear, even with the television's lighting, and those were relatively small venues with just a few thousand in the audience. When they changed to white, everyone could see them. Freddie and Brian both had several years of piano lessons, and John taught himself to play in order to aid in composing and get the sound he wanted.
I can't find it anymore, but in another reaction, you asked what the deal with Freddie's microphone stand is. Documentaries tell the story as follows. As you witnessed already, Freddie is very active on stage, moving around the stage a lot. So at one gig early in their career, he grabbed the microphone stand and the bottom part fell off. He just had to deal with it and keep going. He liked that so much that he always took the bottom part off on purpose since then. And for me it totally makes sense, the way he uses the mic as a prop in his air guitar playing and whatever, it just works better with the stand. Just the mic is too little to be playful with and the whole stand is too cumbersome.
I just found a song by Brian May who goes up on stage to sing along side his younger self. I think Coach and Mrs. Coach would enjoy that. It is so cool. It's called Brian May-Back to the Light-The Time Traveller-1992-2021. Could you pkease watch and react to it? I know you have a long list of songs
So glad you liked this performance. I've liked Queen since 1982, I saw them live at Wembley in 86, so wish you could have seen them live, check out A kind of magic at Wembley.
👏👏👏 Great! Ballad? "Love of my life" live in Rio or "Who wants to live forever" live or official video...yes "white Queen " Hammersmith 75'' is amazing as usual
This is my favorite song off The Game album, in the top 5 of all time favorites. Saw them on The Game tour at Madison Square Garden in September of 1980, the crowd went nuts when this song started. Freddie played piano and guitar, Brian plays piano and guitar, John plays piano and bass and Roger, as far as I know, just the drums. White Queen is off Queen II, Side White, it's counter "March of the Black Queen/Funny How Love Is" is off Side Black. That is a precursor to "Bohemian Rhapsody" that came out in '75. Unfortunately there's no live version just a lyric video, they must be listened to together or you lose out on how they play out on the record.
I'm pretty sure some one has told you . . . Freddie the Art School Graduate has said "White" can be easiest seen by all in their audience. No matter how distant (far back or high in the stands) White is what fans can certainly can see quite well. Additionally fairly early in Queen's togetherness, they determined each can wear whatever he choses. Queen . . . each legendary; surely legendary teamwork to get the finished product.
What's interesting about the Montreal concert, it was being recorded in hi-def for TV, and the crowd were "ordered", by the producer, not to get too enthusiastic, to stay seated. This is why it's probably the quietest Queen concert you will ever hear. Just compare any of the other Queen concerts out there, the crowd are loud and raucous and sing along to all of the songs, but not in this one, it's so sad because the visual and audio quality is superb. Great reaction, btw. :)

We envy you seeing them live. They are absolutely one of a kind.
Brian has a beautiful singing voice also.
Ooohhhh, you must do "cool cat" for John's staring role, you can't help but love it. Great reaction as always xx
Good to know, and a cool song title. Thanks!
'Save Me' is not my favourite Queen song (because there are a few that I love even more), but it's by far my favourite Queen single (yes, even beating 'Somebody to Love' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody').
It was most excellent!
Another great reaction, thank you.
You need to check out another one for the ladies, love of my life live at wembley, just freddie and brian on stage creating something special as usual, just two instruments in this one , one guitar and one voice.
Thank you!
They are simply amazing, especially when you hear backstories and trivia like this.
Great reaction. Try Who Wants to Live Forever live at Wembley 86. Thank you keep 'em coming
Thank you. More Queen coming for sure.
You should watch Brian May play his 12 string guitar! Specifically, "Love of my life (Rock Montreal 1981)". Beautiful performance.
Well spoken. We appreciate you watching and commenting, as always.
Roger Taylor (drums) also plays guitar, keyboards, and bass
Freddie also played guitar, although he claimed he 'couldn't play for nuts' despite composing on it, and playing it regularly.
Haha, we love your essays! Thanks for all that wonderful information. We continue to learn about this amazing band and we're never disappointed.
Great essay, full of info. They are all so talented!
You MUST react to Who Wants To Live Forever. Brian wrote it for the movie Highlander
Thank you Mr & Mrs Coach for this masterpiece of a Queen classic! Loving your Queen reactions, pls keep them coming, love from a longtime Queen fanatic in Australia 🇦🇺
We appreciate you watching!
There can be only one.
Freddie Mercury was a genius who excelled in a magical generation the likes of which we will never see replicated precisely.
In 200 years from now, they will look at Freddie, and other Masters such as John Lennon as we look upon Mozart and Shakespeare..
We can believe that.
Thx so much for doing this one ! Great reaction! Glad you Enjoyed it as much as i do Misses Coach ! Liked both of your feedback thx
We appreciate you!
Queen were/are so special ❤🇬🇧🇺🇸
Quality reaction. You actually watch and observe properly unlike most 👌
Thank you for the kind words! We appreciate you!
The end of this song is so....... it is.
Mr.and Mrs Coach....this song is the best feature of what Freddie could really master.
He is in white so people in the back can see him
He has stated that many times.Save me was a single everywhere but in the U.S, Electra records blew it and were not prepared to press the single. The Album produced 2 American number 1's,Another one bites the dust,Crazy little thing called love.
Good info. We knew both of those #1 songs from the radio.
Freddie wore white so everybody could see him at the back🎼❤️🎼🌻🇬🇧🇬🇧
if you want to be blown away, listen to March of the Black Queen. Peace.
Good to know!
Who wants to live forever Live from wembley 86. Please. I love you guys. You appreciate the brilliance of this legendary band.
Thank you so much! That one is on our to-do list!
Brian not only plays multiple musical instruments, he is an astrophysicist. Queen are arguably the greatest band ever. First view of your reactions, got a new sub. Wish you all the luck in the future.
We're very happy to have you on board.
Thanks! We know a few of the radio hits but haven't heard the vast majority of their stuff.
You should react to 'Staying Power' and 'Dragon Attack' live from Milton Keynes Bowl. Very different sound, but thoroughly Queen!
Thanks for the suggestions!
Also, Brian May is an astrophysicist. He wrote a thesis that proves that girls with robust posteriors, create the force that causes the earth to rotate on its axis.
LOL...yes, we know that one well!
Coaches..are you both QUEEN fans yet..haha. there is so much more to see..so much in th past..
Freddie also played aķl guitar, beside the piano.
You can watch him in the" live aids " in the song "crazy little thing called love"❤
All these guys are multi talented it seems.
Brian has a beautiful singing voice, too. Check out the song "39" with him on lead vocals!
One of their most beautiful performances
It was great!
Freddie is actually wearing light blue Denims with his white tops and white Adidas trainers. It has become quite an iconic look for his fans.
He took and participated in boxing tournaments as a youth so those Adidas trainers are boxing purpose.
I’m not sure if you noticed that when Brian was playing the piano, he has his guitar in his lap so he would have it when he needed it.
Brilliant ❤❤
They are, indeed!
Freddie wore white to he could be seen wherever you were in the auditorium
@@CoachCastTV I appreciate how y'all are so responsive to comments.. makes me feel a part of something.. lol
Not sure if anyone else said - you can see Brian's guitar in his lap while on the piano.
Yeah, the talent is insane.
Brian also taught himself how to play the Harp for one track!
John can also play the double bass.
BTW, on his days off, Superman wears a Freddie Mercury t-shirt.
Not a bit surprised! LOL
How does Brian May go from piano to guitar so quickly! wrote the song played the piano, guitar and sang backing vocals!!!
Simply amazing!
Because he was playing the piano with his guitar sat on his lap, that’s why
This is a brilliant concert would love you to react to Queen rocking song Tie Your Mother Down from this same concert love it & your reactions ❤ x
Thanks so much!
I love when the guys fall in love with Freddie.
They're all incredible. Thanks for watching!
Play Exercises In Free Love. The golden boy in Barcelona with Montserrat Cabalya.
One of the most beautiful and at the same time saddest songs ever written
Got it...we had just not seen enough concert footage yet.
Save me is from 1979 actually. It was released in 1980
glad you done this guys i knew you would love it cheers
Great suggestion!
Did you notice that Brian had his guitar on his lap when he was playing piano? You can just see it.❤❤
Yeah, he's insanely talented.
Love how Brian switches with Freddie on the piano.
Yes, very cool!
You've got to admit the white stands out under the spotlight, making it easy to spot him on stage. Let's not forget the iconic yellow jacket!
Please react to "Love of my life" next!!! And the full Queen Live Aid show.
love your reactions
Live Aid is coming, hopefully Saturday (still have to edit). Thank you!
Love this ❤
Thanks for watching!
Makes perfect sense and he used it well.
When the band was starting Freddie wear white and black exclusively...as time went by that changed❤❤❤❤Freddie Forever❤❤
Good to know.
That sounds very interesting. We'll certainly keep it in mind for a reaction. Thank you and Merry Christmas!
Sorry for the typo. I should have typed please
Another great reaction, true! Thank you So much👏
Thank you too!
So glad you liked this performance. I've liked Queen since 1982, I saw them live at Wembley in 86, so wish you could have seen them live, check out A kind of magic at Wembley.
That is on the list to do as a lot of people have suggested it.
👏👏👏 Great! Ballad? "Love of my life" live in Rio or "Who wants to live forever" live or official video...yes "white Queen " Hammersmith 75'' is amazing as usual
Thanks for that info!
I love Queen !!!
Thank you...now you have to react to “Play the Game” which is from the Montreal concert and also “Liar” live from the Rainbow🤩
Thanks for those. We appreciate you watching!
Great info...thank you.
Thanks so much. Yes, it would be near impossible to remain quiet at a Queen concert, it would seem.
It was filmed for cinema actually, and the quality is this good because it was filmed using 35mm cameras (cameras used for filming movies)
Listen to 'Cool Cat' (John and Freddie are wonderful together). Btw: great reaction!
Greetings from Germany.
Appreciate it! That's a great song name!
This channel is very good❤
You are very kind. Thank you 😊
