❤❤❤ Otis thanks to you I have joined Tom’s channel and I’m binging to the fullest degree and enjoying it ever ever so much
It really is!
❤TomPetty❤TomPetty. I saw Tom Petty on his last tour- front row. I was just compelled to go, and I saw he didn’t look very well and he powered through. He did it for the fans he did it for music. And now I’m a full force all the way Tom Bukovac fan. And I don’t even fit the demographic.
One of the top priorities on my To-Do list is to drink some beers and ask Uncle Larry 1000 questions. This guy is the realest of the real deals.
I dont know if Tom understands? how much impact hes having on ppl who are aspiring to be pro musicians or just fans who want the inside scoop on the touring and session aspect of the game....Somebody has to give him an award or make one just for him.......And stat like an academy for this youtube content....GREAT INTERVEIW OTIS...THIS PUT IT ALL IN PERSPECTIVE! AWESOME!
Thanks Otis for turning me on to Tom! His channel is so good.
Tom is awesome, new fan
I thought i was old at age 54. 19 years ago.
You are doing great Tom.
This is pure gold 😊
This guy is a cool cat. Lol
Interesting fellow!
Awesome, today its like a Buk-athon. Tom posted a massive video a while ago, and a shorter one on his channel ealier today, and now some Bonus Otis! I should have saved it up for prime time viewing. Really enjoying your Sweden stuff! Good UA-cam week.
I know the feeling ..it dont happen often but when it does oH YEA
8:10 - I’m terrible at explaining things too. I think it’s because some of us artist types think in pictures and emotion, and when I try to translate those pictures into words… well, it gets all tangled up.
Uncle Larry is the coolest cat ever..monster musician and really seems to be a first class human being first✌️🤘🎸😁
Thanks Otis!! Thanks for turning me onto Tom, love his stories and attitude! Keep em coming!!
Tom is a lot better at explaining than he thinks.
Bukovac is my Spirit Animal .............
You’re the best thing about Covid
My ole buddy , Unkel Larry !! Lookin cozy , got the YuengLEANg going on ! HAHA . One day I hope to ask Unkel Larry some cool questions and drink a beer with him . Believe it or not Tom is my 3rd Uncle Larry . I have 2 on my Mom's side LOL
Why does tom speak very similarly to steve lukather when he speaks. Both are a few of the greatest sessions guitarists of all time.
After Tom's Encino home was set on fire with his family inside, arson, he became a bit more reclusive. I get it.
Uncle Larry is the magic ... I could listen to him tell stories and ask questions of people all day. Thanks Otis for these videos.
Come on over to the homeskoolers! Uncle Larry jams and gabs daily!
@@joebill663 hundreds of Uncle Larry videos. Plus, lessons. It's one of the best parts of UA-cam.
100%
@@joebill663 What's the homeskoolers?
No doubt, down to earth and real. No ego. Man that’s what it’s all about
Tom does something rare and valuable. He talks the way good players play when they're in the pocket. Some can talk like that, some can play/sing like that. Tom does both and he makes it look easy!
When Tom Petty died it really felt like losing a very cool uncle or someone similar that you just always got excited to see. Since I was kid growing up in the Florida suburbs his music was always around, I guess it sorta felt like he would always be around.
I have loved Buk ever since meeting him in my Nashville home years ago. Thanks for featuring him, Otis!

The Magic Overdub -- aka instrumental competence - That's what's rare. Experienced every day by The Wrecking Crew
I think he was self medicating and just resting and taking as much time as he could to prepare for the show. In tons of pain. Apparently his hip had already cracked and had been that way for some time and he was just pushing thru with meds. Insane. I've heard other stories where he was very social, inviting the opening band to come grill out with them and what not by the bus behind the hotel
Sad to say half the band were junkies for a long time on and off.
I love Uncle Larry's guitar playing, and his stories. Listening to either is time well spent.
Was fortunate to see his last "home" show in Tampa on that tour. You could tell it meant a lot to him and he commented on how many family members and friends were there. He said the bar bill would wipe out the profit from the show. 😅
Funny, Uncle Larry really reminds me of Mike Campbell in some ways. Two of my all time favourites!! Both supreme players that know how to create the part that fits the song perfectly without diminishing their own personalities . They're both camouflage players & if ya don't watch out - they'll git ya
In a recent podcast I heard Mike Campbell say Tom was pretty good and happy and they didn’t know how bad his hip was. I thought what?? That’s total bullshit. Like you said he was on super painkillers. Some musicians are just in denial. He should have been in the hospital. Instead he worried about all these people that depended on him for their livelihood. Sucks. If Ryan Adams really had his shit together he could revive the Heartbreakers and do a tour of Toms music
Man this is great, love the concept of the magic overdub. Id like to think there are moments like that in all types of art 🤔
Uncle Larry!!!!!!! Yeah man!
Nothing worst than hip pain it will drive you out of your mind , i used to get kidney stones all the time ,Kidney stones are nothing compared to hip pain, RIP T P
That's an awesome Mike Campell story. You can strum that one D chord and everybody knows it. I've listened to that part all my life - and that song - and it hits different almost every time, but it's always good. It's so familiar and perfect.
Any more chilled out and relaxed he’d be being interviewed from his bed.
Tom makes me thirsty for Yuengling Lager.
Man I love this guy. Tom is just such a down to earth genuine person. I am so glad to be a member of his home skoolin family. We have such a truly great thing going its magical.. I cant wait to see how good his son marshall gets on the guitar. I think he is already better then me at cord voicings lol. The kid was grabbing them so clean the one day i saw anyway. I love how tom is with his boys what a cool dad, classic person, stellar human.. my man.. My favorite uncle Larry.. Much love and respect..
I love when Tom speaks - he tells great stories
My sister said that Tom Petty was the smartest and most erudite person she'd ever met. And she has met Nobel prize winners. She said he knew something about everything.
Glad to see Tom's knowledge, disguised as stories, is rippling wider. Awesome. Long live Tom and Uncle Larry's muse, and music. Thanks for this.
Take care of this Legend! Thanks for this content. 🎸🎵
Otis. You've met some good folks. This guy is a gem. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Uncle Larry is a great teacher
Thanks for sharing these stories, Tom! I was at the gig in Atlanta for the 2017 tour. We really enjoyed the Walsh set, especially "Rocky Mountain Way." The sets were actually very short for the Heartbreakers compared to previous tours, and there were a lot fewer deep cuts. "I Should Have Known It" was a real highlight.
Thanks Otis for these great videos. When Tom was telling us about his talk with Mike Campbell I guessed that it might be American Girl. There's a video where Mike explains how to play the song and tells the story about its genesis and you could just see that look on his face when he talked about it. I think Tom's way to modest, as he is a great storyteller!!
Wow! How can you not love this guy.
A raconteur, solid musician, a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for posting.
raconteur.. I like that.
Oh my, two of fave guit-players are Mike Campbell and Uncle Larry (Bruce Cockburn being the 3rd spot of my personal triumvirate). So nice to hear that Mike and the lads are sweet guys. Great stuff as always, Otis - Cheers
From when I was young, I dreamt of playing bass for Tom Petty, INXS, U2 or Elvis Costello or The E Street Band.
Now, I sometimes dream of playing bass for uncle Larry’s band, 😄!
🖖
Uncle Larry the 🐐
This is so awesome that you shared this with us. I love love Tom Petty he is the most down to earth guy and such a soft spoken person. I miss him so much and I know we will see him again.
You and Uncle Larry are the reason to have internet Otis. This is gold.
Uncle Larry, you’re a National Treasure. I love u man!!! You are the tone master of all guitar players
Hitmaker. Buk is a class act and a top notch player. I also missed meeting Tom Petty. I had aftershow passes but the band canceled the meet and greet. I wasn't mad, the band invited me to the show and treated me great for the evening. Class people all of them. I did get to see Tom play a few times, he was always amazing in concert.
Too bad TP didn't just take few weeks off and get hip replaced--as I had to. I was riding my motorcycle in three days and doing my thing. Easiest, best surgery I ever had.
Buk is one of my heroes. Great musician, seems like a great person.
Someone needs to make MAGIC OVERDUB T shirts...
The last gigs were at the Hollywood Bowl. Lucinda was the opening act. I had amazing seats in the pool for Tom's 2nd to last gig.
Worked in a record store in Gainesville and Tom Petty comes in and gets Blond on Blond no money asked for credit never payed left for stardom soon after. My brush with fame . RIP Tom
I remember as a kid, in Gulf Breeze Florida, hanging out in the trees with the Oats family.
I am embarrassed to say i never heard of this Tom B until 2 weeks ago now i see him all over YT a really interesting and talented guy just like you OG .Thanks for these stories you write and share.
Man I am with you about asking questions and human nature! Love it!
I love him. The most genuine guitar genius
I love buk!..great guy great stories!
Bonus OATES!!! 🤯🤟🏽
So Very Cool. Tom Bukovac is a Champion. Cheers
It sounds like observing people and studying human nature is something Uncle Larry and I have in common. I've been doing it since I was a young kid. It's really fascinating. I love this series of stories from all these amazing people.
"...cahn't you see, love is the drug for me"
One of the most laid back cats alive.
And a HELLUVA guitarist !!!!!!!
Hi Paul, fancy seeing you here ! Yep he sure is laid back, the type of guy to share a beer with. 😜
@@simonfenn3791 hey hey, Family !!!!!!! Well, as a guitarist I have a lot of styles/genres I listen to….. but I still get a kick out of Synths 🤪….
Tom Bukovac is one of the most melodic and soul-deep cats I’ve ever heard !!!!!!!
I was glad that I saw Tom Petty on that last tour, they were backed up by Peter Wolf of J.Geils Band
Such great talent and personality.
I knew a band that toured with Petty & Heartbreakers for 2 months. They said the same thing about Tom. They really liked Mike and the rest of the band too. But Tom was not around much. That was in the mid '90's.
He was apparently quite shy and awkward in social settings and was happier in his own company. And he was also massively famous so very much in demand.
Apparently when people did get to meet him he was absolutely lovely.
Otis-another great interview with Tom. Love the "money overdub/part" story, that must be quite the intoxicating thing Tom! God I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall listening to Uncle Larry and Mike Campbell talk, love both of them big time! Yeah, "American Girl" is such a perfect track. Thank you Otis for the link to all of the Tom Petty stories and another gem with Tom sir!
I saw them on that tour. Last tour before Tom died.
Love this from Tom 👌 thanks Otis
They call this "Lightning in a Bottle"
Keep gathering new stories Tom!
✌💀👍🎸🎼🎵🎶🇺🇸
He’s very interesting to listen to.
I love Uncle Larrys Stories.
Uncle Larry always has great stories.
It's encouraging to know that the pro's have almost as much trouble as the rest of us coming up with great parts to play on a song
Love your channel Otis! Tom is such a cat, what a hang to have on video and sharing with us. -thanks so much :)
Yuengling!
I love Tom’s stories.
What a cool dude.
He's so right
Thanks Otis!! Buk is a treasure himself and we all learn a lot from his stories!! 8) --gary
I attended the University of Florida a few years before Petty got "American Girl" on the charts. He had lived in Gainesville and worked as a maintenance guy on the campus. He was our hometown hero. I was doing an internship in respiratory therapy and working a graveyard shift at a hospital when the song came out. On days off I would walk around town and go to all night places to hang out. I walked out of a 24 hour bowling alley, sat in my 1968 AMC Javellin and turned on the radio and heard those opening chords and was totally hypnotized. It wasn't like anything else on the radio at that time and it spoke to my inner "Florida Man".
I really wanted to go see Tom and Joe Walsh on that tour, but it was going to be on a Sunday, and I had my own gigs Thursday, Friday, AND Saturday that week so I was just not feeling it, I'll have to catch them again next time around, and then a couple months later I see the news that Tom died. Moral of the story is, don't take for granted that you'll get another chance to do anything in life..
Tom B. is so zen. Dude is centered. And that's such a great question to ask the legends (the perfect overdubs).
Tom is gifted in his ability to bring words to describe emotional states.
Love such down to Earth peeps!!!
I hardly know any of the people on your channel, but I"m still enjoying the stories.
I would have bet good money that Mike Campbell's answer would have been "American Girl". So iconic. Thanks for the work, Otis. It's a joy to watch.
See Tom in the thumbnail, click video.
Thank you. Great interview.
The Magic Overdub!!!!! So freakin true. While I have minimal experience compared to you, I know what you mean. Good stuff man. Thanks!
Thanks Otis I am glad you turned me on to Tom aka uncle Larry . it was after the first video you posted with h that I went to his channel. His Home Schoolin channel is cool too , the guy tells great stories. He may not believe it but he does he is at #200 episode and growing in popularity. Take care friend.
I love this guy! Would love to have a Pennsylvania Lager with him and hear those stories haha
Great insight....I love music and hearing it come together....ultimateorgasmatron stuff....thanks gentlemen
