Mick Green was a legend and a big, big influence. We should also recognise Johnny Spences' bass thumping. Played with a pick to get that great throb and rhythm. Drummer, Frank is ace. An outstanding trio who blasted out the stuff that made rock and roll. Just effin brilliant in every performance and in every way....
If Carlsberg made bands, this is what they would make. Absolutely brilliant. I am privileged to have seen them and Mick Green changed my guitaring perspective forever. Pure rock at its rawest and most enjoyable, check the follically challenged bloke at the front rocking out. Good stuff.
I was only 13 years old when I wandered into Johnny Kidd and the Pirates dressing room at a Jerry Lee Lewis concert in 1962. They were all great with me and I still cherish my signed programme. Good lads and tip top players.
frank the drummer my uncle lovley geezer mick green loved that guy r.i.p best guitarist i i ever seen live and ive seen em all they were the bollox i miss those free gigs on the guest list me and me mates im 51 now but still love it never forget the pirates
No , this IS the best live clip of the simple art of high tempo rock and roll .This looks like my old stomping ground of the Hope & Anchor , Upper Street , Islington and of of the greatest venues to get a shot of live , no bull , in your face music. Forget all the Wembley Stadiums etc , the Hope and places like it was were it was happening
Dr.Feelgood also blown out the Ramones in CBGB during the 70's...pub rock bands like Pirates and Dr.Feelgood could blow up any punk or rock band in that time...not to mention acdc with Bon Scott or Rose Tattoo😎
Nonsense. They were great, and so were many punk bands. I'm 63, mate, and I saw all the pub rock bands, and all the punk bands, so I know what the fuck I'm talking about. The Clash in their pomp where as mightily righteous and raw fiery as any band I've ever seen. Don't be such a stick-in-the-mud asspacket. It doesn't help.
These Guys are gods - without them, their legacy and connection to a prior generation - that could still get it on, took Pub Rock to PunK, through to New Wave - It was a decidedly UK thing. Dr Feelgood, Eddy and The H/Rods - they were accessible, they reached and touched us all. Broad shoulders, that many stood upon - good times, and sad times but - we were there!
The Pirates never sold out!stuck to what they did and boy they did it well!Definitely the fathers of many genres Pub Rock,Punk?Hard Rock and the original Rock and Roll sound !
Mick green absolutely killing it love his tone! Bizarrely playing with the high e dropped to d, sounds odd but when you jam along it sounds just like it! Genius idea
seen them live that year in Hamburg, Markthalle. This band just blew me away. Never again felt such "drive" from a band playing in some 5meters distance. Unforgettable, precious memory. Cheers!
Well it’s an early morning down at RCA Another session is underway And it feels pretty good as we take the final trek Well then I pack up my friends and I walk out the door I head on over to studio four Where a hot shot producer’s got a new kid in town Well it feels pretty good and I really wanna lay it down Well there’s someone saying that I look too old What he wants is a hillbilly soul I told him I’m gonna give it to you loud and clear Well I play the riffs and you can shake it up to hell out there Well Gibson Martin Fender and an old Dobro We see the hit generating eyes and a future just know Never gonna take you away Now they can hear me say We’ll be together to the very last show Well let me tell you how a Dobro got me Saw it in a junk shop and made a scene Opened the door and then I just walked right in Well I was swaying a little and smelling pretty bad of gin Well there right in front right in front of my eyes Was the cutest little gypsy you can realize And she asked me can I help you sir if this ain’t you Well she smiled at me when I played with her old Dobro Yea Gibson Martin Fender and an old Dobro We see the hit generating eyes and a future just know Never gonna take you away Now they can hear me say We’ll be be be be together baby to the very last show Yes sir Well Gibson Martin Fender and an old Dobro We see the hit generating eyes and a future just know Never gonna take you away Now they can hear me say We’ll be be be be together to the very last show We’re gonna be together to the very last show We’re gonna gonna be together to the very last show
Saw them at Bristol University 1977....collossal but unsung heroes of Rhythm and Blues. A great night and a solid wall of sound. Mick Green is an amazing guitarist...rock legend
Too right! I must've watched this a thousand times already. These guys are like a machine - so cool! One of my other favourite clips on youtube is Bo Diddley playing Hey, Bo Diddley at the 70s Rock n Roll festival.
@pit2ryan3 Looks like Dingwalls to me with those dimpled pillars. Believe it or not us punk rockers liked the The Pirates and this got put on a punk/new wave compilaton and that version was live at the Hope and Anchor.
Look at the FUN they're having banging out pure sweaty rock n roll. Take note Oasis THIS is how it should be all Hail The Pirates! Fuckin Class 👍🎸🎸🎸🎸♥️
This is how rock and roll should be delivered. Live, loud, and sweating profusely. Awesome.

Rock and roll in your face like a jackhammer, and playing it like it their life depended on it. Still listening in2022! 👊🏻
I was there, behind the bloke in the green army jacket at the front. Frank Farley gave me his drumsticks at the end. Absolutely brilliant gig.
OMG!!! Fantastic ❤
Я тебе завидую.
now this is what you call a power trio - bloody brilliant.
I saw them several times in the late 70's - magic memories.
Zero bullsh*t, 100% R&R!!!
If Carlsberg made bands, this is what they would make. Absolutely brilliant. I am privileged to have seen them and Mick Green changed my guitaring perspective forever. Pure rock at its rawest and most enjoyable, check the follically challenged bloke at the front rocking out. Good stuff.
Hellyeah Mick Green forever
Absolutely brilliant. Saw them many times. Mick Green actually played rhythm and lead guitar together.
Damn, those guys play tight live. Great performance. Mike's playing was so far ahead of his time, yet reminiscent of the 50's, great blend.

Mick and co could tear the plaster off the walls...that guitar style is perfect...lead rhythm guitar

It was captured at the H&A.
I bumped into these three gentlemen in a record shop in Reading in 1979. Unassuming men and fine entertainers. Bless 'em all!
Great stuff. Come on Fender, make us a Mick Green Tele
They would blow any punks off stage with their energy , raw power and ability to play the instruments!
they did
Dr.Feelgood also blown out the Ramones in CBGB during the 70's...pub rock bands like Pirates and Dr.Feelgood could blow up any punk or rock band in that time...not to mention acdc with Bon Scott or Rose Tattoo😎

I was only a child when this was recorded. I'd love to go back in time and see Mick Green in action.
The Pirates never sold out!stuck to what they did and boy they did it well!Definitely the fathers of many genres Pub Rock,Punk?Hard Rock and the original Rock and Roll sound !

Instant Fan! Everything that's missing in R&R today is right here. Holy fuck are they tight!
Well it’s an early morning down at RCA
Another session is underway
And it feels pretty good as we take the final trek
Well then I pack up my friends and I walk out the door
I head on over to studio four
Where a hot shot producer’s got a new kid in town
Well it feels pretty good and I really wanna lay it down
Well there’s someone saying that I look too old
What he wants is a hillbilly soul
I told him I’m gonna give it to you loud and clear
Well I play the riffs and you can shake it up to hell out there
Well Gibson Martin Fender and an old Dobro
We see the hit generating eyes and a future just know
Never gonna take you away
Now they can hear me say
We’ll be together to the very last show
Well let me tell you how a Dobro got me
Saw it in a junk shop and made a scene
Opened the door and then I just walked right in
Well I was swaying a little and smelling pretty bad of gin
Well there right in front right in front of my eyes
Was the cutest little gypsy you can realize
And she asked me can I help you sir if this ain’t you
Well she smiled at me when I played with her old Dobro
Yea Gibson Martin Fender and an old Dobro
We see the hit generating eyes and a future just know
Never gonna take you away
Now they can hear me say
We’ll be be be be together baby to the very last show
Yes sir
Well Gibson Martin Fender and an old Dobro
We see the hit generating eyes and a future just know
Never gonna take you away
Now they can hear me say
We’ll be be be be together to the very last show
We’re gonna be together to the very last show
We’re gonna gonna be together to the very last show

I saw them in Stockholm around this time. One of my favourite concerts.
This is such a great song!
Simple rock n roll played at breakneck speed...I can see why Wilko Johnson (RIP) idolised this man!

Too right! I must've watched this a thousand times already.
These guys are like a machine - so cool!

I agree, the cameraman/men is in all the right places. From the point of view of the fans.
As a guitarist it's irritating that he's never looking at the fretboard during all the nest licks / solos.
they rock!
A fantastic show in Brussel's AB in the late 80's, despite 2 electric failures... Very hot R'n'R !!! ;-) **** rating
Still here in 2018 ....rock for life !!!!
Fantastic band!
MIck Green, what an absolute legend. Fantastic!
And of course, a Derbyshire lad, like the best of us are... ;)
"GMF...we'll be together till the very last show"!! Yes, rock till you drop !!! That's r'n'r :)
Before Jason and the Scorchers, these guys were tearing it up.

I am sorry to hear your uncle (whom I assume was Frank Farley) has passed away. I only met him briefly, but he struck me as a real gent.
Frank was a gent, gave me a drumstick after 77 gig at Folkestone Leas Cliff, my ears are still ringing from their sound
Cant capture this lightnin in a bottle at a studio
-- VIVE LE ROCK ! ! !
Compared to this rock an roll, with the stones, is like gold an scrap iron, in fact those three, are the real deal
Is that Sean Tyla at about 1:10 into the video at the very front down the stage?
"I don't wanna be a Pirate"!
Though isn' t this from the Dingwalls video ???
where i can find the lyrics for this song? somebody please can help ? tks
Is any more of this gig available please
Isn't this Dingwall's as opposed to The Hope And Anchor?
Sure looks like it to me too. Others have said the same on other posts of this "Hope n Anchor" gig, but hey what do we know ;)
In an alternate Universe Elvis could have staged his 78 comeback with the Pirates.
fucking ... damn ... bastard ... vital ... rokkannrolla !!!!!!!
What's the line after "Gibson Martin Fender..."?
Просто охуенно!!!!
В том смысле что на столько искренне что иных слов нет….
RAW!
Anyone have the lyrics to this?
Shepherds Pie baby
You can hear how much Mick Green influenced Wilco Johnson!
Don't munchen it!
Anyone got the lyrics?..
I was born in the hospital Mick died in.
making everyone else walk the plank
Jeff Byrd, King of BBQ sent me here.
I don't get the name.....
These guys inspired Wilco Johnson. You can hear why.
