Making a chicken pen from a dog crate.

- My young chicks are still too small to integrate with the older chickens. They outgrew the smaller dog crate I had, so now it's time to move onto the large dog crate.
In this video, I show how I use pieces of cardboard, secured with zip ties, to try and keep the pine chips in the crate. The project is a success and the chicks love the increase in space. I've also used this dog crate as a "Chicken Jail" when one of them needs to be segregated for some reason.

OMG! Thank you! I have 4 little chicks coming to me and today I found a large metal crate like that at a thrift for $20. I was hoping someone would give me ideas! I knew I was gonna line it with cardboard and you have solved it! Tytytytyty!

What if you were to join the two crates together? That's what we did, along with a water heater box.
I constructed a larger box when we had four chicks. I would likely join two dog crates together if needed because I no longer have that one. One of the reasons I needed more space in this instance was because I didn't have my coop extension completed yet. This year we got two more chicks and they didn't even need the large crate before I put them out in the coop extension. Thanks for the view and comment!
