Like I told Mel, this is the latest thing since Fender made the stratocaster.$$$$$$
WOW! A guitar with a variable switch that ACTUALLY SOUNDS GOOD IN ALL POSITIONS!?! That's brilliant. Thanks for the share, Darrell!!
Thank you Sammy!
I have 3 guitars that I only play in the neck pickup or 4th position which is neck and middle because the others sound like crap.
@@douglaschristine8387 sounds like you need a Clam Shack. Not that I'm biased... :)
@@alamedaguitars2455 what's a clam shack pickup Mel? I have two Squiers classic vibe guitars, one a Stratocaster with 3 singles and a telecaster with two humbuckers. I changed the bridge pickup in my strat with a Seymour Duncan little '59 which was a waste of $100. My neck pickups are good in both. I still have 1 payment on the telecaster before I even think about it.
a small, independent builder will almost always treat you better than the big corporate empires that dominate the markets today
very often yes...unless you are really ready to pay the price.
That is until said company goes bankrupt...then you're warranty is worth little more than the paper it was printed on...
@@barrymiller2272 not wrong... but warranty problems exist also with big brands sometimes. Probably less and it often depends the cost of your gear but they exist.
In other words. It's all about who's willing to pay the price
Thank you, John! Before I put anything in the mail to a customer, I send them an email, make sure that they're getting what they want, and if not, I try to rectify it. I've been on the customer side of too many crappy transactions to pull that on someone else.
I love the one minute solos! Please do one on every episode. That's what really shows the sound of the guitars.
Sweet guitar. Thanks for showcasing the smaller builders, we see stuff we may not normally see surfing the web for new models. Great video.
This may be one of the most awesome guitars you've ever demoed - a session players dream!
That thing is a beast and a work of art. This one is literally a Jack of all trades.
Maybe the big market can learn something. Super versatile
I watched a video on the Off-kiltertrons a while ago. I believe the coils are actually tapped (leads taken out mid-winding) so the pickups would be costly to make. The biggies (or the bean-counters of same) would probably poo-poo it.
Absolutely fantastic tones and a great looking paint. 😊
I had the pleasureof meeting Mel from Alameda Guitars a few years ago at a Gretsch-phile
jam session. Great guy, great player, and someone from whom I received very positive influence/advice. He could just as easily have blown me off as the beginner/wannabe that I was (still am) but he treated me as though I belonged there. He is good people.
Harry!!! So nice to hear from you! It doesn't matter your skill level if you enjoy what you can play. That's why I play surf guitar - my skill level gets me there, and I can pretend it's the style not my skill for the reason I play how I play! :)
Thank you, Darrell, love your demo's.
Interesting. I am a big fan of Seymour Duncan p-rails pickups that do excellent single coil, p90 and humbucker. Install with a 3way toggle... have them in a strat, tele, and LP. Game changer.
P-rails are really cool, and while there are similarities between them and my Off Kiltertrons, there are substantial differences. The most obvious being that I put the magnets in the center of the coils vs underneath, so there's more percussive attack. Also, I'm pretty sure the P-Rails are split, where mine are split and tapped with a very specific winding recipe to accentuate the different voices. The P-Rails are probably more than enough for many players, my Off Kiltertrons are more targeted to, well, the off kilter. :)
Great video Darrell. Very nice guitar, this is the best and most versatile guitar that I've seen come out in years. I will check them out and probably get one later this year.
Great job on this video
Want one or two now!!!😮
Great guitar with varied pockup combinations, looks, tones, specs & hardware ❤ U sure can pick em😊👍👌🎸
Maximalist goodness! I have a 90s Epiphone Nighthawk that has a similar pickup variety to it that's just fantastic.
Hot dog, those Nighthawks are cool! I remember checking them out when they first hit the market! Still, I think my Clam Shacks are cooler, but I may be biased. ;) Mel
@@alamedaguitars2455 your guitars look awesome man! Would love to own one someday. Especially the Baritone/VI model 😳
@@-k-b- Thanks! I'm rather proud of the Deep VI, when I showed the VegaTrem guys at NAMM they had no idea their vibrato would work with such heavy strings! Of course, me being me, I found a way to do it. When/if the time comes we'll get you hooked up! Mel
Okay. I checked out the website. I now have a practice goal and savings goal. Looks and sounds awesome! Strat to Gretsch in one guitar!
So much wow factor, what an amazing guitar!
I always appreciate your guitar opinions
This seems like a much more user friendly version of that guitar where you rotate the pickup to go from humbucker to p90 to single coil. Very cool
Thanks! I don't like to spin round, I get dizzy. My Off Kiltertrons are completely passive - no battery, not even tone filtering with caps, inductors, or resistors. The pickup is a split, tapped humbucker with coil "recipe" design to maximize the difference in voices. The rotary simply activates different parts of the pickup. Hopefully turning the rotary is a sufficient replacement for spinning!
Damn I can't believe I'm just now learning about this brand of guitars. Thank you for sharing.
Very cool features with all those pick-up sound selections.
mel is the coolest dude, worth every purchase
The one guitar for all your electric needs.
I prefer to pay real money to this builder than gibson or fender. Well done.
Impressive! I like how the neck pup sounds without getting to boomy even when driven.
Thanks Ron! I designed the pickups to err on the side of twang. I'd like to say I know what I'm doing, but luck helped!
This is sooooo cool, love it 👍
HOLY MOLY! WOW!!!
WOW! That is a guitar I just need to have!!! Only thing that guitar lacks now is piezo pickups❤
Holy spankage, Batman! The guitar rocks!!! Of course, channeling Stevie Ray pushed it over the top as well!!!
That has a lot of cool built-in.
I could tell a little bit when switching. Hefty price for this guitar. I usually spend around 1k maybe a few hundred more on a guitar. Cool features on this guitar, just more than what I spend. I have purchased guitars after watching your reviews and haven't been disappointed with your recommendations yet !
What a cool guitar! It's very interesting!
As well made as the guitar appears to be, I think the really cool thing is the drop-in pickguards. That setup with all the tedious stuff already done for the player is a fantastic idea for sure
Thanks Chris! I'm working on the Jazzmaster loaded pickguards now, and will be making a batch of Strat ones in the next couple of weeks.
@@alamedaguitars2455 that's awesome! Congratulations and best wishes for success!
@@chrisggoodwin777 Thanks Chris!
That guitar sounds beautiful.
Saw these guitars on 60 Cycle Hum, those pickups would be fun to try
Not sure I’d like the neck, but would be willing to try it
Yeah, the builder is quite a character too.
@@deanevangelista6359 yes I am!!!! ;)
Cool... replacement drop-in Strat style loaded pickguard the builder is working on with these same pickups and circuitry?
Let me know when!
Great video as always Darrell!
I know you know how to play a really good guitar a good guitarist but I like the way you play the basics so you can actually demonstrate the guitar's abilities
Darrell sure can play! Much more skill than in the demo videos I make myself (search alameda guitars here on youtube and you'll find them)
What a great looking and sounding guitar! The Varitone actually works! 🙂 My Gibson Blueshawk vatitone worked but some settings just did not sound good! Great job guys!
I know it looks like a varitone, but it functions very differrently. The Varitone runs the guitar signal through capacitors and or inductors to filter the tone. My Off Kiltertrons are a split, tapped humbucker, and the voice rotary turns on and off different parts of the pickup. All the voices come from my coil recipe (gauge, winds, shape) with no filtering whatsoever. Cool, eh? Mel
@@alamedaguitars2455 Very cool indeed!
The CLAM SHACK DEEP VI model is even more bonkers!
how low can you go???
Wow !!! Oh, my Gosh a guitar with so many Tones and Styles !!! And you used the word everything, which truly fits !!! Hopefully if and when someone tries to buy they don't get no sold-out ??? Definitely a Save and share video 😮 😅 😊 !!!!
Wow, just checked out the website! That Candy Apple red is a beauty! The prices aren´t as much as I was expecting either 🙂 Sadly, still out of my price range but good job Alameda!
Thanks for giving us another guitar to drool over
If it had a satin neck & an ebony fingerboard, this would probably be my dream guitar. A very cool video
Thanks! You know, such things are possible on a custom order. just saying.... :)
Wow not your [fav rock god] HSH! This is one versatile switching arrangement on this Alameda Clam Shack (great name)! And sounds so good! Plus pricing is really great. One guitar to rule them all!
Thanks Jimmy! I'm the anti-rock god being a surf guitar player. It does explain the Clam Shack name a bit (I'm so glad you like it!) I make a bass VI variant I call the Deep VI, and I also make a semi-hollowbody called the Beatnik Baron, which I'll be posting on my website soon!
Cool as hell!
Holy Cow
A daring design at a much lower price than the mighty PRS narrow field do it all Studio.
Great idea 😊😊. I'm 62 and wanna build my own guitars. Someday soon. I did one few years ago, A used Peavey predator. It was definitely a learning experience. Thanks DB take care 😊✌️👋💯🎸🎸
Mike, definitely build! I started by modifying existing guitars, worked up to making my own bodies, then finally making necks. It's really rewarding. Feel free to hit me up with any questions on getting started - I wouldn't be where I am without the help of experienced luthiers. Mel
@@alamedaguitars2455 right on thanks 👍✌️🎸💯🇺🇲
Beautiful guitars. I wonder what the deluxe with all the extra switches has to offer?
Jason, the deluxe version has independent voice rotaries for each pickup, treble and bass tone controls, neck pickup switch rocker, phase switch, series/parallel switch, and a switch to use single or dual voice rotaries. So, a lot more options, for those who really like to tweak. That being said, I've had two guitars come back for standard to deluxe upgrades, so I guess I know tweakers?
What’s the purpose of having a roller bridge with the Vegatrem? It doesn’t make sense to me adding another friction point when the Vegatrem is already super solid.
The main reason is because I have a lot of problems playing Strats but I love the Strat trem pitch travel. With the tremolo behind the bridge I can palm mute to my heart's content, and with the bridge higher off the body, it's harder to unintentionally roll down the volume, but the volume is still in the right place for easy access. Besides the fact that the Vegatrem is super solid, the large roller wheels on the bridge help maintain tuning, because the strings apply more torque to a large wheel than a smaller one, so the strings are much much less likely to stick. If you like a Strat set up, I sell loaded Strat pickguards with the same electronics as the Clam Shack for $550.
@@alamedaguitars2455 super interesting thoughts around it! You're the first person I've seen do it like this. I've always been interested in the Jazzmaster style guitars, but the trem movement has always felt a little weird to me. This would probably solve that. Love the pickup design too!
@@JGorg8 it seems really obvious once you think of it, I figured it wouldn't work because why else wouldn't it have been done. Thankfully, I'm the kind who insists on trying things myself and it works!!!
Great vdo thanks for sharing just a quick question though was it a true single coils when in mode 1 2 3 and does it hum with high gain? Very interesting one indeed.
Yes, the single coil voices are truly single coil. The Off Kiltertron is a split, tapped humbucker, so the single coil voices are coil 1, coil 2 (tapped), coil 2 (full). The range of voices comes from the gauge, winds, and shape of the coils. That's my secret recipe. I'm the veritable Colonel Sanders of the guitar world!
@@alamedaguitars2455 Oh that's really incredible and great invention. Thanks
Love the look of that guitar 😀
my Clam Shack looks an awful lot like your guitar in your avatar, clearly you have excellent taste! :)
@@alamedaguitars2455 why thank you 😃 mine is a DIY job and not a patch on your masterpiece. I’m blown away by what you’ve done with the electronics! I’m going to have to get saving up
@@SisGuitarGAS thanks! I started DIY, that's why farm out the paint - I build everything from scratch but I leave the paint to an expert. I also make my own tort guards, I'm fussy that way. :)
Very tasty guitar 👍👍
Hmm a very impressive Strat!
I love the yellow/gold color they have with that same pickguard. The guy on their youtube channel. which I assume is the owner of the company has a really infectious personality too. You can tell he loves what he's doing.
Thanks! The one you mentioned is Shoreline Gold with medium tort. The one in the video is Seafoam Green with light tort. I make the tortoid pickguards myself, because, among my peculiar tastes I'm fussy about tort looking good. Also, always fun to play with celluloid and epoxy! As you surmised that's me in the videos. No one else would act so stupid, so I had to do it myself. Go figure? On the bright side, you can be confident that there's no markup on my guitars to cover costs of demo videos!! And yes I love what I do!!!!! Yaaaaaaaaayyyyyy!!!! ;)
More versatility than an Anderson with switcheroo system. Which is pretty damn impressive. If it stays in tune and had a nice tapered neck joint and similar perfect frets ? All good
With the VegaTrem, roller bridge, and Tusq nut, the Clam Shacks stay in tune even when dive bombing. As for tapered neck joints and perfect frets, I can do custom orders... ;)
Very unique! I wish you would keep your camera on the whole guitar. When you play with your left hand close to the camera, all we see is a good focused shot of the nut and everything else is a blurr.
at least he didn't have my ugly mug in the video! ah the classic face for radio...
wow the strat drop in pickguard would be such a damn blessing!
Darrell, great review. I had to chuckle when you tried to describe the neck. Before watching the video I went to the link to check out specs. More and more I'm seeing guitars sold on the net with no specs. Granted $2.5K + for a guitar is up there but to even consider it, I NEED to Know the spec, i.e. fret wire type, weight, neck radius, scale, et. al.
Here's a more detailed list of specs: The guitar body is alder, the neck is maple, and the fretboard is rosewood. Scale is 25.5" Nut is a Graphtech Tusq model 5010-00, nut width is 1.697" The neck radius is 9.5" Frets are vintage sized Jescar 43080, height 0.043 inches, width 0.080 inches. I use CTS and Bourns 500K pots and a Kinman treble bleed on the volume. Five way switch is by Oak Grigsby. The tremolo is by VegaTrem, built in Spain. The roller bridge is from Asia. I'd say the neck profile is somewhere between a C and a U. I started with my '66 Jazzmaster and chunked out the shoulders a touch. It's noticeable, but to date no one whose played one doesn't like it. I've got some room for neck profile changes on new orders.
@@alamedaguitars2455 Thanks!
I wish that there had been some information regarding the optional "deluxe wiring" available for the Clam Shack. . . Perhaps a future episode?
I wanted to keep the Deluxe Wiring Club exclusive to those who seek it out. Or I forgot to tell Darrell!
Damn Darryl, wish you would've put this out before the beginning of 24 because I just bought a Squire classic vibe thin line, natural Telecaster with humbuckers, I might've bought this instead. I love when you find these guitars because that's all I can afford, lol. Nice find Darryl.
Douglas, you're not completely out of luck - I make Off Kiltertrons in a number of common sizes - Gibby HB, P90, Jazzmaster, and Gretsch - and pickups are $200 each. Turn your Classic Vibe into a Clamtastic Vibe! ;) Best, Mel
@@alamedaguitars2455 thanks Mel , I beat you to it. I went over to your site right after the video, lol. Great 😊 gear you got going. Your going to be a rich man soon. This is the latest thing since Fender made the stratocaster.
@@douglaschristine8387 thanks! Just remember, if I become Mr Moneybags doing this, that you knew me way back when.... ;)
All this pickup technology (and premium price) and there isn’t an exposed truss rod? I also wish the neck pocket was beveled for a little comfort. I do love the pickup options though.
Thomas, my truss rods are very modest and don't like exposing themselves. ;) Going forward the guitars will have a truss rod wheel at the heel so that will be easier. For the neck pocket, do you mean like a Strat Ultra?
@@alamedaguitars2455 That would be awesome to have heel truss rod wheel (my favorite spot)! For the neck pocket, a Strat Ultra style would be great. I am not a fan of my hand hitting a thick “block” like the older/traditional teles and strats. I like the slimmer and rounded style like Strat Ultras, some Charvels, and others.
It seems very similar to the Seymour Duncan P-rails. It's basically a P-90/single coil.
That was my thought. It would be good to hear a review directly comparing a P-rail setup to this one.
It is and it isn't. It is in the sense that it's an asymmetric humbucker, it isn't in the sense that it's both tapped and spilt, and I designed each section of coil to maximize the voice range.
Lovely guitar, the only thing i don't like is the homage to the Fender 12 in the head stock.
Among the classic Fender firsts is the time machine Leo built to come to the future, steal my headstock design, and return to the 60s with it. Shocking, really. ;)
@@alamedaguitars2455 I am truly appalled by Leo's actions ! :)
He built me a custom pick guard with all the bells and whistles... in out of phase parallel series switch kill switch...
Buy anything he makes!
Mel is a genius!
You're the best, Paul!!! :)
Does a more versatile guitar even exists?
The only words about the headstock is about string geometry, no mention about the clear Danelectro's inspiration for the headstock's shape (witch is not always well perceived) made a lot better then the original (and that fits perfectly well with the main color)!
If it would have just intonation frets, this would be the perfect guitar (in my eyes of course)!
Oh, I forgot, it looks a like passive pickups system (witch I prefer), but is it really?
@@piTiTou yes, the pickups are completely passive. The rotary is simply switching on different parts of the pickup. No filtering whatsoever. Just magnets, wire, and, of course, love. ;)
Thanks.
So what is the actual neck like? I know you said it's flattened a bit on the back but is it chunky or a medium or thin C? Just curious. It seems like this guitar really excels at getting stellar cleans and Texas crunch type sounds. Not a heavy rock or metal sound at all ... does that seem accurate? This was fun to watch.
the general specs on the neck are from my '66 Jazzmaster, but with more meat on the slope towards the back. So maybe somewhere between a C and a U. FWIW, to date, while players notice the profile it hasn't troubled anyone as of yet.
@alamedaguitars2455 Thanks so much for replying to this. Appreciate it.
Did I see this guitar on 60 Cycle Hum a while back? That weird bridge/vibrato seems really familiar!
Yes! Ryan lets me on the air (more vids coming!). Perhaps Darrell knows better?
these aren't the droids you're looking for
10:11 Maybe more versatile thanba Line6 variax, with more dynamic response when you play it, and without all the potential issues you could encounter with the Midi equipment of a Variax... Isn't this guitar the best of both worlds?
Thanks! Another advantage is that my Off Kiltertrons are completely passive. No battery, not even tone filtering with caps, inductors, or resistors. The pickup is a split, tapped humbucker with coil "recipe" design to maximize the difference in voices. The rotary simply activates different parts of the pickup. Still if you want to call the guitar is VariShack or a Clamiax, you have my blessing to do so. :)
Never tought we could use a trem bridge with seperate saddles.
yup! Added bonus, you can use the trem saddles to adjust the length and angle of each string across the bridge. I try to set them up to help maintain tuning between strings as you use the tremolo, like on a Mosrite or MicroFrets guitar.
They don't have the budget but are expensive axes. But look cool and great tone variations.
For better or worse, most of my budget gets put into building more guitars, pickups, etc. I was in talks to rename the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas to the Clam Shack, but it fell through, not enough budget. ;)
For some reason i was under the misguided notion that you reviewed mostly affordable, to most viewers, guitars. However, now that i realize my mistake and now know most of your, most recent ones ive seen at least, reviews are more geared towards the upper end market i can only dream of owning one. Maybe i should consider starting a youtube channel so i too can get them for free. Well done sir, im envious. 😂
FWIW, I sell my Off Kiltertron pickups in a number of common sizes (JM, HB, P90) for $200 so you can get in on the action with your own existing guitar.
@@alamedaguitars2455Thanks for reaching out and I’m sure you feel that $200 is a reasonable price, probably $200usd so more like $275cad plus customs duty and local taxes, so were already significantly over what any of my current gear is worth, or what I paid for them. Actually that’s more the cost of 2 or 3 of mine. Anyway, like I said, I’m sure it’s a reasonable price on your end but way over my price range but thank you for the offer anyway. Maybe one day I’ll get more expensive, quality stuff but right now not in my realm. I’d rather have a whole guitar for much less anyway. Thanks and have a really great day.

Super cool guitar! There is so much there, I’d probably spend more time experimenting than actual playing. Something for everybody, tone-wise. They need to take a second look at that Alameda logo, though. Doesn’t fit the vibe.
Thanks! I initially designed my Alameda logo to live at the top of a classic Gibby/Gretsch/etc headstock, inspired by the art deco buildings on the old Alameda Naval Air Station. As for the vibe, it's a Clam Shack, anything goes!!!! ;)
@@alamedaguitars2455 Aha, that makes sense for the art deco style. Well you've got a great guitar there, and the Off Kiltertrons are brilliant!

@@aliengreeter HAHAHAHA!!! At least guitars are generally less expensive than old cars or airplanes!
The weight? Nice job.,
Weight is about 7.5 pounds. Not a heifer, but not a lightweight either.
All guitars with a variety of settings have failed so far because guitarists can only remember a maximum of 5 settings.
If that weren't the case, there would still be James Tyler Variax guitars!
I thought we could remember six? ;) Seriously, control set up was a vital part of the design. I tried to make it as intuitive as possible. The rotary turns like a volume knob, with each voice being louder than the previous one, so you can use it as a boost if you're not fussy about voice compared to volume. Also, who would want a Variax when you could have a Clam Shack? :) Mel
@@alamedaguitars2455 Please do not get me wrong. I love guitars with lots of adjustment options. And I think you've developed something really good there.
But a look at the history of guitars shows that guitarists tend to prefer guitars with one pickup and only a volume pot.
Examples of failures:
Fender with S1 switch and 10 pickup variants fails and is replaced by only a 7 variant version.
Other failed attempts:
Fender Deluxe Plus
Vox
Variax
Fender Roland
and so on.
I wish you success, but I don't believe in it.
@@HaraldMix-E-Gitarren-Review no problem, and I appreciate the comments. I don't expect my pickups to be for everyone. There are a lot of amazing pickups out there which is fantastic and they're better suited for the vast majority of players. I'm a bit off, as are my pickups. I like to say Alameda Guitars is your home for the almost normal, so I guess you could say I aim my products at kindred spirits. :)
@@alamedaguitars2455 I wish you success!!! 👍
Very cool but I would not know where I am with the pickup selector options. Way too many positions to remember. Overkill
With the pointer knob it's fairly easy to feel the voice setting you're using. Also, the voices have names to make them easier to remember - Jangle, Twangle, Wrangle, Tangle, Mangle, and CRUSH!!! It certainly can be overkill, but I play 60s rock and roll and I use the voices to cover surf, garage, british invasion, and hard rock. Is it necessary? No. Is it ridiculous? Perhaps. Is it goofy? Most definitely. :)
@alamedaguitars2455 good use case if you're covering a lot of genres and need that level of tonal adjustment. I can see how it would be great for someone recording in a studio but live needs to as simple as possible. Just my opinion
@@allboutthemojo perfectly vaild opinion. I'm still right, though. :) Seriously, I've had players find the sound they like most and leave it there. Others switch voices multiple times in a song. I'm just one of those guys who likes to futz with my tone a lot and loves knobs, levers, and switches in excess. ;)
If im spending that kinda money, I'm getting me a Gibson Les Paul, or explorer or firebird. I will say this is a very nice guitar, sounds great, and that neck, oh that neck. But ,I dont have the guts to spend that much on anything.😁🤘🎸
Personally, I think that the Alameda guitar is a much better value for the money. . . Gibson's 2024 prices are riding on the reputation of its vintage axes and are not a reflection of the company's modern workmanship and quality. If a player is looking for a lifetime-keeper guitar that meets their creative and technical requirements, a guitar like the Clam Shack is the way to go. Potential resale value doesn't enter into the calculation as far as I am concerned. . .
Price of multiple guitars too.
It's not a budget guitar, but I do everything myself from the lumber yard to the guitar licks with the exception of the paint since I suck at painting. I wind the pickups and make my own tort pickguard material too. Still, for a lower cost of entry, I sell pickups individually in common sizes, and will have loaded pickguards out shortly.

I know it's not exactly a budget guitar, but how many other guitars are there built in the US by a witty, rather dashing kook such as myself? For more budget options, loaded Strat and Jazzmaster pickguards are $550, and individual Off Kiltertrons are $200 and I make them in common sizes - Gibby HB, P90, Jazzmaster, Gretsch. But, yes, the entrance fee to the Clam Shack is high, but I like to think it's totally worth it. At least that's what I tell myself.
If you want 3 guitars in one for a reasonable price, then look no further on this guitar
Yeah but where’s the rickenbacker?
the low output single coil gets good toaster-y chime.

It's so modern, but only 21 frets is so traditional. I would rather have a 22 frets for that guitar
such things can be arranged with a custom order. Heck, for you, I'd even try to shoehorn in 23 frets! ;)
It does not mean anything to infosa. These back then weren't anything in the current home appliances and now it should mean 2014 if not 2004/2006. Playing tauren druid but if its better to have one player than mage, paladin, warlock and shaman on a tire stand for a few watching it at 16x times speed, because those fender players had this task before to sea petrol heads (those just moving as cylinders) having any meaning saying how fast they drove there.
If I’m going to spend $2500 on a guitar, it will be for another Kiesel.
While I'm very proud of my guitars and most definitely biased in favor of my Clam Shacks, there's no question that Kiesels are great guitars!
I wish you great success. Have an Aires, 6 string. What I liked about the buying process was the customization they allow. That guitar was built for me. $2600.
@@davestrong8889 very cool, and sounds like a great deal. I've got a friend who worked there, nothing but good stuff to say. I do customization as well, but not to the extent that Kiesel can.
Let me guess, somewhere around the $3000 mark?
Edit: I just checked their website, and they're probably way more than that! You have to contact them for the price. This is why I DON'T like small builders. Their stuff is outrageous! I get it, most are hand-built and they have to make a profit, but I don't see how places like this stay in business.
Pretty close. $2500 for the standard model. Thats like $3250 + tax here in Canada. $4000. Nice but too rich for my blood.
Krull, you don't have to contact me for the price, it's on the website - $2,500US. Not cheap by any means, but whether the value/price ratio is acceptible or not depends on personal opinion. I respect your opinion and while I wish I could make it for less, that's not possible without quality compromises.
@@kelroundell6304 ouch! the exchange rate has gotten crazy. I sell the pickups individually ($200) so if you want to hot rod a guitar you've already got, it's a much more economical option.
Where are you people coming up with needing to contact them for the price?? Two clicks and you have pricing on any model.
@@JGorg8 I think they're taunting me and my mediocre website building abilities. ;) Mel
I like the idea of the guitar, but it doesn't seem to be very practical, at least, not in a live setting.
Funny, I designed the guitar for live gigs - I play 60s rock and roll from surf to garage to british invasion to early hard rock so having all the voices on tap lets me cover a lot of territory both for lead and rhythm. In a standard gig, I'll use all the voices except CRUSH (the hottest humbucker) which I save for special occasions like birthdays. ;)
@@alamedaguitars2455 How do you balance out the differences in volume when switching to a higher output pickup config, especially if that change happens during a tune?
@@akasgsvirgil9503 generally I pick my most frequently used voice and dial the amp volume to that. In my case it's the hot single coil (called "Wrangle" after the old 50s Cowboy Gretsches) For the lower output singles, I generally use them for rhythm where I want a lower output, or for the humbucker voices, I use the volume control unless I want the extra output. I use a Kinman treble bleed which keeps the pickup voice the same as you lower your volume. Does that make sense?
