- In this video I walk you through step by step how to cut a correctly sized hole in your formica Laminate countertop. Installing the sink is a very easy job that you can do yourself with just a few tools. I am using a used sink and I don't have the template. I show the correct way to measure your sink if you have the same problem. I go through some precautions that you might want to take so that you don't ruin your counter top.
Here are some of the tools I used in the video:

Doing this today. Your the man. I feel more confident than ever!!!
Excellent! TYSM, Hope it came out ok... 😀
EXACTLY what I needed to see. We’ve been procrastinating cutting the hole for our sink and with this video we feel more than prepared. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Excellent, thorough explanation including how to measure. The entire clamp channel must drop into the hole, so we are measuring to the farthest edges of the channel on the underside of the lip.
Thank you so much for the great comment... 😀
Thanks for very clear instruction...appreciated the different cutting tools. Have not seen them used before.
Glad it was helpful! You're welcome.. 🙂
Excellent video!!! I've seen other videos and took bit and pieces out of them, but you covered them all. Thank you kindly.
You're welcome! So glad I could help..
What I wanted/needed to see. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Thank you so much, not only informative, but you are very funny, "like a glove." Just to be clear, i will be installing my sink tomorrow, i am feeling confident.
Lol! Good 'ole Ace Ventura.. 😂 You're welcome.. Make sure when you're cutting out the sink to leave 45 angles in the corners. If you cut it out as a perfect rectangle you'll more than likely have areas where you can see through to the bottom when you put the sink in! Hope that makes sense. Of course it depends on the shape of your sink.
Beautiful work!!!
Thank you so much!
Easy enough to buy clamps for those who want them. I just bought some since I only had a few. Got them from Home Depot or Lowes, can’t remember since I shop both places. Thanks for the great video, I’m about to do my kitchen counters.
Thanks for the info! I knew you could buy clamps, the guy I did the work for was to cheap to buy them... Lol. Make sure when you're cutting out your sink to include something in the corners to accommodate the sink so you don't wind up having bare spots. I mean with most sinks, if you cut out a perfect rectangle and the corners are sharp 90 degree angles, you'll have holes showing. I will usually cut a little 45 in each corner to solve this.
Very helpful! Thank you very much
Glad it was helpful! You're welcome.. 😊
Awesome idea to screw the brace to the offcut. I am cutting my first sink in this weekend and I was worrying how I’d manage by myself 👏👏👏👏
Thank you !! When you cut out the sink, make sure and check if your sink needs 45's in the corners as opposed to cutting out a perfect rectangle...
Great information! Just start working on our first project with formica tops and collecting information about all of this steps.
Awesome! Don't forget to cut 45 degree corners into the sink hole if your sink requires that. Otherwise you'll have some exposed areas in the corners😂
Thanks for the video!
You're welcome..
Nice helpful video
Glad to hear that. Thank you and you're welcome.. 🙂
Well done video. This helps.
Thank you! Glad I could help.. 😀
Great video.
Thanks!
GOOD STUFF!😊
Thanks!😀
I end up one cut yesterday's with Oscillator since jig saw didn't fit on backslash side turn out good just a few shavings to make sink fit 😊😊 bloody good this kitchen looks😊
Awesome! Glad you were able to get the sink fitting nice!
I liked I subscribed!! U did a great job explaining this.. 👏 👍🏾
Awesome! Thank you! Thanks for the sub
Keep making awesome videos. Next up I would love to learn how to put up an interior door.
@@trinarichardson4054 Excellent idea... I'll film one next time.. 😀
Good job sir
Thank you so much!
Lots of information thanks. I hadn't heard of those laminate blades. Here in the UK they're available but I had to search for them specifically, suppliers didn't offer them automatically when I looked for jigsaw blades.
Glad to help😊
Great video, made my job easier.
You're welcome! So glad I could help... 😀
Have been trying to find more info on how exactly to create the template for an old sink, where to measure, etc, and this was perfect! Just one question: how far off the lip of the counter does the sink need to sit (or does it even matter)?
I don't think it matters as long as it's far enough back where the front side of the sink isn't interfering with the cabinet. And also that there's enough room for the back side to not hit the backsplash..
Very comprehensive. Thank you!!! Would your technique work on butcher block with the same tools?
Yes it should!... 😀
I noticed you taped off the corners with a 45° angle but didnt explain. I recently learned my lesson when I cut the opening right into the corner and my sink didnt cover the cutout. Had to replace whole countertop. Overall great video
Yes I apologize for not making that more clear. I've almost made that mistake a couple of times... 😊. Thanks for the input
So how do you account for this?
Does the Multitool cause Chip on the Laminate board
Not really... even if it did it wouldn't be very wide and the flange of the sink will cover it up... 😀
My husband is renovating our kitchen. We not sure how to reinstall our fairly new sink since it fit into our old laminate countertop. We have all the stuff except for the laminate blade. Guess that's the next thing I need to do.
Excellent! Just be careful at the corners and don't make your cutout a perfect rectangle, but add a 45 at each corner so that you won't have any exposed areas when you put the sink in..
What kind of blade on the oscillating tool?
I just used a regular wood cutting blade. I didn't have any problems...
😂Like a GLOVE!!🥊
Lol... Ace Ventura..
What if the sink has a drying rack, do you cut out under that???
Without being able to see what you've got there, I can't say.
I'm a temp apartment maintenance tech, I told the manager I could do it. Well long story short somebody else (another temp) said he could do it also. I lost the job, but now that dummy has to do it L.O.L. There's no way he is going to be able to do it cause he's an idiot. I told the manager as I was walking out the door " might as well order another one and hire a pro and loose my number" I laughed all the way home.
Ya never know, the other guy might pull it off!
@@TheHomeImprovementChannel kinda of doubt that, all he's got is a drill and a hammer 😅
@@blasphemasaurus9590 Lol... ok I was trying to give the benefit of doubt. Definitely going to need more than a drill and hammer... I suppose you can drill a thousand holes with a drill, but not very time efficient! 😂
Like a GLOVE! Hahahahahaha
Lol!... Good ole Ace Ventura.. 😂
