Hey Doc, this is off topic but I'd like to ask a question I'm curious about. Have you ever heard of, read about, or met anyone whose poor vision has blunted their emotional awareness? I ask this because I have astigmatism and keratoconus, so my vision has gotten to be a problem. It seems to me like my emotional awareness is low when I'm unable to see a person's eyes or facial expressions. I suppose it's common sense to assume that a low awareness (due to bad sight) of another's expressions (and expressive eyes) can diminish emotional connection in social situations, but I'm curious to know if there's any data or experience you have that correlates with that. Emotionally, I'm great, but I find it hard to express myself emotionally when I can't perceive the subtle emotional cues of another.
I'm getting different numbers but they're pretty close. Tried another app and got way less. Wtf? Zenni says I'm 58.5 (pretty sure that's wrong) this says 67-68.5. Tried zenni a couple times with different focus and they all came out 58.5 even when I crossed my eyes lol.
I thought that I remembered my PD from an eye exam being 67mm, but wasn't sure. Tried the app and it confirmed; spot-on, 67mm. Thanks for the app recommendation.
I've been getting my prescription after an eye exam for over 20 years. For the first time ever, the pd wasn't on my rx. I thought it was an oversight so I called the office to get it. Very cool app I wish I had come across this vid last week before I ordered glasses....Anyhow I notice this app gives a slightly different number depending how close you hold the phone to your face. Closer will give a little lower #, further a little higher. I measured my PD few times in different ways with a ruler in the mirror and seem to get a DP of 72mm, but a few times thought it may be more like 71.5mm. Just now I used the app a few times and got a range between 69.5mm when the phone was closest to 71.5mm when the phone was at arm's length. I would say to get the best reading you should go for arm's length and try to have the camera square to your face with the lens at eye level and centered between your eyes. Having the phone like that will give an image with the least distortion and thus best reading.
Hi Mr Eye Doctor, great video. Can you explain that although we measure pupil distance. How does the maker of the glasses account for the up and down centre because when watching this, i noticed that your eyes are well above centre of the actual lens withing your particular frames? many thanks
I want to respond to this: 1. is there an app for monocular PD? 2. you are so right about seeing an eye doctor, especially if you have any chronic illness like diabetes. No website can identify macular degeneration, glaucoma or check your eye health. :) I love my eye doctor, he worked with me for 45 minutes to get me a prescription that fixes my double vision. Without those glasses, I'm sunk.
Hi sir, if you help I will be really happy. I am astigmat hipermetropic so I wear single vision glasses (aspheric) my PD is 64 mm total but do I need the pupilarity distance for both eyes separate like 33+31=64 or no need and what do they need to measure more
first suggestion on youtube and the great advice! you totally saved me! I had the tape measure out and googling how to convert cm to mm, WAAAAY EASIER! #subbed
So many prescribers will refuse to give you the PD on the basis that they don't trust online sellers to get it right. But like... That's literally my medical information and you are way overstepping by telling me you won't give me access to it. There are laws in place re restricting access to medical information.
I see that measurements are needed for the left and right pupils distances BUT if the frames are not centered exactly correct on the bridge of your nose because your nose is not symmetrical or your frames are off center slightly it will be off measurement anyway.
Excellent video. Here no one will give me my PD…I know they want me to get my glasses from them as a mark up. I’m “ok” with the business concept of this, but I want inserts for my VR headset which they don’t sell. I’ll def use this app
It would help if the optometrists cold just measure the PD during your visit. They never do that anymore at a certain big chain store. They want the opticians to do it when you buy the super expensive in store frames, and even then, they really don't want to share that with you. The waited until after I paid for the pair of glasses before they printed something out with my mono PD. I hope that measurement will be correct for the rest of my life :)
I've always wondered why they don't just include the PD on the prescription. I'm sure that at some point during my 20+ years of wearing glasses they've measured me. So just write it down....
They have. They don’t tell you because then more people will buy glasses from other places like online shops rather than from the shop the doctor works with directly because the online shops are way cheaper.
I had my last optometrist refuse to give me the number. I was livid. Measured it myself and got glasses on zenni optical for a fraction of the price ($56). I hate all things part of standard health “care”.
Just came across this and the app seems great EXCEPT for people who need a mono pd! Someone else asked you if there is an app to measure mono pd but I didn't see a reply...??? Would appreciate a reply to this....thanks!
Thank you Sir, I have a question I am hypermetrop astigmat and my numbers are quite big, so should I use distance pd or near pd? and my second question is that in some optic centers the machine measures 62 mm and for some of them it is 64mm so do this machine measures my near or distance pd?
Hello dr 👁️ thanks for this video. I have had eye test after two years and they said the prescription changed slightly although I haven’t really noticed any change. I picked up new frames one for sunglasses and normal one. I noticed headaches and dizziness and my vision in new glasses is blurred so not as it should be taking that there stronger lenses. Went back to them thinking they will do another test with this new glasses, was only seen by the assistant and he asked me to look around the shop and asked how I see .. then took my glasses went away and said he’s manually adjust them. I asked about my PD and reluctantly he’s check it and admitted that he’s colleague got it wrong! Then asked if we are leaving them as they are or should they change my lenses!? I said change them if it’s wrong! Week later I collected them and I see no difference at all! I think they were not changed at all, and he’s just playing a placebo effect on me. I guess they would need to cover the cost from their own pocket hence it wasn’t done! I booked another eye test in different opticians up the road is more expensive however I want to have an independent result to compare and see if the prescription is correct in the first place and / or wrong PD. If I prove they’re at fault which most likely is the case I will request for a full refund for both pairs of glasses and the rest itself!
Why is it so hard to get measurements from my optometrists. Not once have they ever used a pupilometer on me. I have to ask to get my binocular pd to get vr lens inserts, and my last dr. Just measured real quick using an old ruler. And just for my own knowledge I requested my monocular pd from the technician (if he was one) at the front desk and he gave me wrong information saying I can just divide my binocular pd by two. Not once have any optometrist office provided glasses that are custom for my face and pd, hence why I want the information so I can provide for myself and order elsewhere.
Video suggestion - Could you talk about orthokeratology? I am thinking about getting into it but I m not completely sure if it's safe and what are the downsides
I reccommend the app PD Meter Pro! You shouldn't look directly at the camera when you take the photo. You should look into the distance and take the picture. Your pupiliary distance decreases when you focus on closer objects. You can do a dual PD with many apps. Just pick the bridge of your nose for one point and the pupil of each eye with the second point. If you did it correctly. The dual PD should add up to the single PD. So, if your single PD is 66. Your monocular PD might be say 34/32 or 34+32=66. The monocular PD is typically written as 34/32. The first number is your right eye (OD "oculus dexter in Latin" of 34) and your left eye (OS "oculus sinister in Latin" of 32)
I have high myopia. My left eye is -8.25 myopic with -1.50 astigmatism. My right eye is -9.00 myopic with -0.75 astigmatism. I went to an optical shop today, and the worker used a special equipment to check my PD (pupillary distance). She said it is 58. My left eye is 28, and my right eye is 30. Should I use the "overall" PD when ordering glasses, or the two different eye-specific PDS when ordering glasses? I think she said that the two eye-specific PDS are usually only used when purchasing "progressive" lenses or "bifocal" lenses. I am not, I am only purchasing single distance lenses.
You only use "overall" PD if both eyes have the same pupillary distance. you have different PD's in each eye and therefore, you select two different eye-specific PDs when ordering glasses.
I have problem that is light ,led light uper on all leters pls tv under subtitle mainly white in colour are shake on top pls tell anyone treatment but all are in long range only
I have to provide my PD to a VR company that will build the vr device to fit me specifically. I have progressive bigfocal glasses. It's a bit confusing on how best to do this vis a vis my type of glaases?
I recently went to for an exam and purchased an extra pair of glasses. I am near sighted and wound up getting bifocals because of my deteriorating night vision. Basically my first bifocal prescription. After receiving them, I was immediately upset. During my exam I told them (more than once) I spend most of my time in front of the computer screen and don't want to tilt my head back to see. Well, that's what I am doing. I have degenerative arthritis in my neck and spine. Very uncomfortable. I was insistent on making this point when I was there. Now, I have two pairs of bifocals I basically use for driving. I can't order a new pair unless I have an accurate pupil distance, which (I think on purpose) they didn't provide. Very frustrating after spending a fortune - even with insurance! I am going to give this app a try and hopefully avert another costly visit. Thanks.
Such a bummer to hear that Geo. I wonder if there was some miscommunication on their end. Oftentimes, if you are at the computer for a long time a dedicated prescription for computer glasses is ideal. I know some clinics don't always provide the PD on the script but most clinics will measure it for you if you ask, some clinics do charge for it as well.
@@DoctorEyeHealth As a followup: I tried to call them multiple times and received a recording about COVID, etc. They basically said the brick-and-motor store I went to doesn't exist. I went online and encountered a bot that was useless for my situation. I finally found an email and sent off my concerns. The only recourse is to physically go back to the store and demand some kind of refund or compensation to really get what I wanted in the first place. Thank you kindly for the reply. - Geo.
I got my eyeglass prescription.however when I went to order some glasses online, my eye place told me they don’t release the pupillary distance to patients. It’s for doctor use only! 🤬
Nothing proving in large scale studies and largely not accepted in modern medicine, hopefully we will have some better studies one day where I could recommend something.
Doctor I wanted to know, I have compound myopic astigmatism and the pd my optician gave me was of my distant vision, So if I buy new glasses with that pupillary distance, Will it cause headache when I do near work as our eyes converge and our pd changes a little but our glasses pd remain the same?
For most people no. Thankfully our eye muscles adjust to this. However, for some people it can be troublesome and then they can get new glasses made for just computer use. That may ease eye strain.
So I wear bifocals with the line...My Dr. has me measured at 59mm PD. I did the app and 3X it came back as 61mm. Is that because I need to subtract a number from it? Also, I have a single vision prescription for the computer...she has me at a 55mm PD...Is there a number to be subtracted from the 61mm this app measured for the computer prescription?
I have three new phones in this app does not work with any of them when I go to the Play store it says that this app is not compatible with my phones my phones are the Samsung Galaxy 19 and a Samsung Note 10 and a cheaper Motorola phone and it says that it cannot be installed on any of these phones that is not compatible so maybe you should look into more apps that are easy to use and recommend them as it stands I can't find any at work easy or are understandable the information doesn't seem to be complete on all the other apps

#subbed
Thank you so much for informing us of this app and then making a video for us!
This is so true, I'm having hard time measuring my left and my right . They are different.
Thanks! This is just what I needed!! ☮️💕🙏🏼
I always watch your videos without skipping ads.
Thanks for this info! Very helpful.. I just used the app to measure my PD.
Thx for the info, I had to do it a couple times to make sure.
Great video and a wonderful app. Thanks for sharing.
Just came across this and the app seems great EXCEPT for people who need a mono pd! Someone else asked you if there is an app to measure mono pd but I didn't see a reply...??? Would appreciate a reply to this....thanks!
Thank u so much, i was able to just place an order online.
Does Night light, blue filter modes really protects the eyes
Yes, and he has videos addressing this topic.
Great question! Yes, there is a study that showed the blue light apps do help, not 100% but do help.
Thank you Sir, I have a question I am hypermetrop astigmat and my numbers are quite big, so should I use distance pd or near pd? and my second question is that in some optic centers the machine measures 62 mm and for some of them it is 64mm so do this machine measures my near or distance pd?
"A lot of eye diseases creep up on you." Yeah! I just discovered that I have glaucoma and that left untreated, I could go blind! Glad I went in! 😳
Correct me if I am wrong but Progressive glasses are called varifocals in the UK
Multifocal in other parts of the world
Yes, that i only learned recently too!
I tried it 3 times with 3 different results. 58.5, 58 and 59
Go with 58.5
@@jackmac919 why?
Ya
Its really confusing
That’s well within tolerance. An optician with a ruler can only guarantee +/- 1 mm, all measurements have uncertainty.
I want to download this app . But why this app is not available for my country
Love this! Thank You!!!!
Thank you so much Doctor it is so helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you kind Sir!
Thank you for this video I was able to get my PD🙂
Awesome video, great app! Thanks!
Thank you! Happy you liked it!
thank you. this was really helpful. will see how i get on with this
Your glasses look really nice!!!
Thank you!
Wow!! Amazing review and app! Loved it!!
Thank you!
this was a life saver, thanks doc
Video suggestion - Could you talk about orthokeratology? I am thinking about getting into it but I m not completely sure if it's safe and what are the downsides
Overall it is a great option if you are a good candidate for it. I have the video on my list to do, just need to get some video/picture assets.
I have problem that is light ,led light uper on all leters pls
tv under subtitle mainly white in colour are shake on top pls tell anyone treatment but all are in long range only
I have to provide my PD to a VR company that will build the vr device to fit me specifically. I have progressive bigfocal glasses. It's a bit confusing on how best to do this vis a vis my type of glaases?
Does this work for us folks with a strabismus?
Probably not
I recently went to for an exam and purchased an extra pair of glasses.
- Geo.
How can I find my monocular pupillary distance on my own? Pls help! 🙏🏾
This just saved my time. Thank you
I got my eyeglass prescription.however when I went to order some glasses online, my eye place told me they don’t release the pupillary distance to patients. It’s for doctor use only! 🤬
Same they just don’t want you to buy from someone else. The info should come with the prescription 🙄
GlassesOn app isn't available in Google Play Store anymore. Can anyone tell why? Thanks
Not available in my country
Does the eye exercise or not using glasses and try to see naturally reduce myopia
Nothing proving in large scale studies and largely not accepted in modern medicine, hopefully we will have some better studies one day where I could recommend something.
both the app & glasses prescription from the Dr read 66.5 that isn’t an option when ordering online . Should I round up or down ??
I can't find the app in the UK do you have a suggestion for another app?
Doctor I wanted to know, I have compound myopic astigmatism and the pd my optician gave me was of my distant vision, So if I buy new glasses with that pupillary distance, Will it cause headache when I do near work as our eyes converge and our pd changes a little but our glasses pd remain the same?
For most people no. Thankfully our eye muscles adjust to this. However, for some people it can be troublesome and then they can get new glasses made for just computer use. That may ease eye strain.
Unfortunately this app appears to be incompatible with my device
Love the review. Easy to use app. Thanks!!
Glad you liked it!
Do you recommend the single number from pupil to pupil? I put in the monocular and my glasses feel weird. They are single vision. -3.75 -2.75.
I appreciate this video was very helpful.
I have three new phones in this app does not work with any of them when I go to the Play store it says that this app is not compatible with my phones my phones are the Samsung Galaxy 19 and a Samsung Note 10 and a cheaper Motorola phone and it says that it cannot be installed on any of these phones that is not compatible so maybe you should look into more apps that are easy to use and recommend them as it stands I can't find any at work easy or are understandable the information doesn't seem to be complete on all the other apps
you are awesome , thank you so much !
If I have a 30/31, can I convert that to single PD:61?
Yes, that is usually what is done.
@@DoctorEyeHealth thank you
I cannot access the app. The install button is not highlighted for me to download.
