Jean-Claude Biver and His Son Launch New BIVER Watch Brand. Starting at $550,000!
Jean-Claude Biver is preparing for his farewell performance!! After spending half a century in the watch industry, which he revolutionized with his exuberant style of leadership and visionary approach to marketing, the watchmaking legend-he famously acquired rights to the name Blancpain in the early 1980s for 22,000 Swiss francs (about $23,700), before remaking Omega, Hublot, and TAG Heuer into modern-day megabrands-reemerged from retirement last year to work with his 22-year-old son, Pierre, on a boutique brand. Father and son took the stage at a crowded lunch event at Biver Watches' offices on the outskirts of Geneva to formally debut the brand and showcase its first timepiece, the Carillon Tourbillon Biver. The $550,000 chiming minute repeater is made of 18k yellow gold and comes with an integrated gold bracelet and one of two dials: gray obsidian or blue sodalite. It will be available in a limited edition of 12 pieces, four of which will be available in the United States through Material Good, the brand's sole distributor for the region, beginning in September. "It's an incredible comeback, but it's also a little bit goodbye," the older Biver told a gathering of journalists, merchants, and industry luminaries assembled on the eve of Watches and Wonders to mark the brand's international launch. (Among those present were MB&F's Max Büsser, H. Moser & Cie.'s Edouard Meylan, and Material Good's Yoni Ben-Yehuda.) "Because what can I expect at 74?" He went on to say. "Perhaps if I'm very good at my gym and don't eat so much, I can do another five to ten years." But I'm almost there." The emotional address had its share of hilarity, as father and son established a camaraderie that demonstrated how thrilled they are to be working together. "He's an incredible man, an incredible manager, and we have so much admiration for being able to work with him, listen to him, and receive guidance from him," Pierre remarked. The younger Biver indicated that starting with the minute repeater difficulty was a spiritual decision. "To me, the chronograph represents dynamism, movement-it's moving forward," Pierre explained. "Perpetual calendars, or any calendar, represent memory-they keep track of time." And the minute repeater, since it generates sound and vibration, is love, because love is vibration. We wanted to begin with the most essential spiritual value."

Patek Philippe is far from alone among watchmakers in reducing the number of authorised dealers it will work with moving forward, but news that it is cutting 30% of its worldwide doors will send shock waves through the industry.
WatchPro has been hearing from retailers and their customers when Patek Philippe has pulled out of stores, but the extent of the consolidation had not been confirmed until the brand responded to an inquiry today.
“We confirm that Patek Philippe SA is currently working on a global restructuring of its retail distribution network which will eventually result in a reduction of about 30%

It would be awesome if you make such videos, to at least pronounce words correctly and not give the voice of a text computer.BIVER is pronounced "Beever", and minute is not Mynute, but "Me-nute". What an amateurism! Shame
