    This whole thing is terrible buuut, if you’re hanging out that close to the track area you’re not being that safe.

      Especially with kids. Without barriers separating the drag strip boundaries from the spectators, I can imagine it would have only been a matter of time before young kids got away from the watchful eyes of adults and darted onto the track in front of the racers. Even without that, the mother heroically pushed her daughter out of the way of the out of control racer, and the witness interviewed above showed her husband and son sitting in the danger zone but happened to drive off right before this tragedy. Whichever government agency oversees this recreational area needs to set up those concrete Jersey barriers as the track boundaries to help reduce the possibility of an out-of-control racer causing another tragedy in the future.

    If mechanical throttle linkage it's is possible to get stuck wide open. Had it happen when i got on it big time and left motor mount broke jamming wide open. This was also a Jeep. Luckily i had mind set after initial panic to shut engine down just before disaster. Had the old lady screaming good on that one; heck i may have also 😅

      I’ve had this happen on a Camaro, but it was simple and we turned the key off..and there goes acceleration to throttle and apply your brakes. Just don’t know if this happened at the last second but you’re supposed to look ahead but I wasn’t in the seat so it’s easy to make a judgment call, sitting behind a computer versus sitting behind the wheel. My heart goes out to the people and family who lost their daughter, Wife and mother.

      From the looks of the mods and the speed in which it hit the other vehicle, it was barely a Jeep. Not much left of that vehicle that's still stock. With that in mind, the throttle wire is only as good as the backyard mechanic that installed it.

      Another video from a different new source said the driver claimed he couldnt hit the kill switch on the dash. If it was my vehicle I’d personally want a kill switch set up like they have on jet skis, have a lanyard around your wrist and just yank your hand back to pull the kill switch, especially in on the dunes

    I had a Chrysler New Yorker that had a broken mount! One day while driving it went full throttle! Between breaking etc I managed to get it back to the house and up onto a dirt pile. I shut off the key and called a junker. The car had always been a repair problem constantly! Thank GOD my wife or children were not driving it!!

    First of all my condolences to the kent county sherrifs family and friends....iv been to Silver Lake sand dunes many a time racing my monster truck....i also used to go to mud runs and race as well. After an injury to a spectator at one of the big mudd runs, the owner of the course built barriers and a few small bleachers for spectators to watch the races....Nascar tracks, indy tracks, and road course tracks all have safety barriers in place for spectators to observe the races safely....this is a no brainer, install safe barriers for people to watch the drag racing at silver Lake sand dunes...and at a good safe distance from the track....i feel the state park has a hand in being at fault for not installing them sooner ....iv had throttle stuck wide open before a well...killed the motor to prevent injury to anyone ...SAFETY FIRST ALWAYS!!!! ❤❤

      These aren't illegal street races, and mishaps occur all the time in motor racing, sometimes with very tragic results, unfortunately. Driver was not DUI. I do believe there should have been fencing, such as concrete Jersey barriers set up along the boundaries of the drag strip to offer some basic safety to spectators.

    Not every accident requires a response or a change to the laws. While accidents are tragic, there is a huge difference between an unacceptablely unsafe environment, and an accident. Life is dangerous. This could have happened while walking on the sidewalk, but that does not mean that every street gets full guardrails, nor does walking along city streets get banned. I would never stand on the side of the road during a rally race, but there are people who choose to stand a foor away from cars as they fly throungh the air at over 100mph. More power to em.

    This is super tragic but that Jeep wasn't going 85 miles an hour. If you've ever seen a vehicle hit something at that speed, especially an old Jeep with what appears to be fiberglass front end parts, it would have much much worse.

  • @douglaslane4480
    @douglaslane4480 Місяць тому

    It may not be a mechanical issue with the vehicle. If the engine can pull enough cfm of air through the throttle plates , that can actually hold them open . Especially on big cubic inch engines.

    It's Michigan, of course the sheriff's dept will find a way to pin this all on the driver. When there should be a min 100 ft safety zone at least. You don't think sand or any other pieces of debris could have cause this issue. But to the sheriff's office they never see it that way. Sad situation all around

    • @7080nik
      @7080nik 2 місяці тому +2

      The only reason the cable is sagging is because the guy is working it by hand instead of the accelerator pedal. The butterflies could have jammed at the fully wide open position but, there is enough spring there to return it besides all the vibration from the motor and the bouncing on the track.

    Got to go fast mentally in all sports. More like he panicked and lost control. Stuck throttle is why you have a kill switch on modified vehicles or shift into neutral. Sad situation for both sides and the lawyers will be all over it.

    Several things to point out here....
    -- throttle sticking prolly can't be replicated now for several reasons.. one being the vehicle is NOT in operation , another being that the vehicle has been totaled.
    ---spectators shouldn't be much farther down track than 20 feet or so from the starting line....
    ---- they are racing motorcycles against vehicles....this obviously shows a lack of intelligence among the race "organizers"
    ---- best thoughts for all involved , the deputies family, the driver of the Jeep, the witnesses

    Stuck throttle makes you veer into other cars?

  • @russellstewart5414
    @russellstewart5414 Місяць тому

    Tragedy how ever you look at it. You think the driver would be remorseful and he may be, and this may stay with him forever or maybe not. If he races again will it affect his performance and will doubt always be there. As for spectators being to close , we have all seen this before, people want to get close up to the action and get closer and the next guy gets closer and soon you’lhave an entire row of vehicles inside the safety zone. What about just hitting the breaks or steering away or emergency shut off. Lots of variables.
