28:04 Fun Fact: A lot of Madeline Khan's (Mrs White) monologue here was ad-libbed. The director was so happy that everyone of the OTHER actors stayed in character as she rambled on, and they kept this take in the movie.
When this first came out, they only showed us one ending at the theatre, so based on what theatre you went to would depend on what ending you saw. Nowadays, the DVD has 5 options...Options 1, 2 & 3 will show ending 1, 2 or 3, option 4 will show all 3 endings (like we just watched) and option 5 will show us a RANDOM ending...one of the endings but we won't know which until watching it.
Fun reaction. I never picked up before that when greeting them all Wadsworth literally says nobody there is using their real names, i.e. including himself, d'oh!
This is such a fun film! Incredible group of actors who nailed their roles. Some trivia: Three endings were shot, and a different one shown at each theater. All three are included on video. The DVD, however, aside from all three endings, also offers the option to play the movie with one randomly selected ending. In some cities, the newspaper print ads indicated which version ("Ending A", "Ending B", or "Ending C") was being shown at each theater. Needless to say, it didn't go over well lol
When Peacock drinks the cognac, and Plum suggests that it might have been poisoned: Poison was NOT one of the weapons! All the weapons that "Mr. Boddy" handed out were the weapons from the board game. In 1988, they released a new, expanded version: "Clue, Master Detective." It had a bigger board with more rooms, more suspects, and more weapons (including poison).
I know I'm late to the party here but I absolutely adore this film and this reaction to it. It's just so much fun. It's such a great ensemble piece that I could see adapted into a stage production. Too bad the gimmick of this film with the multiple endings didn't really pan out for the cinema release, but on home video I think it works pretty well.
The smelling of dog poo and kneeing Mr boddy in the groin were both edited out of the TV version we watched and rewatched on VHS for years. They DID NOT however, edit out any of the murders or necrophelia/ comedy 😬
Mrs. White no longer exists in the board game. In 2016 she was replaced with Dr. Orchid. Also, there is a "bigger" version of Clue - Clue: Master Detective. It has more rooms, more weapons, and more suspects.
I was obsessed with this film as a kid in the early 90s when i was about 10-13 (i still love it, i'm 44 lol). In the UK the actual board game is called Cluedo here, so was a tv show based on it. They had a Cluedo fruit machine too in the early 90s, and when you got on the game feature going around the board it played the theme tune to this movie.
No question about what my favorite movie is now, obviously, but when I was a tweenager, this was my favorite movie. The theaters I saw it in had the third ending. It was released nationwide (possibly world wide) but each theater (or city) had only one of the different endings. It was very popular where I lived, and has a cult following to this day. When it came out on VHS (yes, I'm that old) I practically wore it out, along with Labyrinth, which hasn't aged that well. But I had SUCH a crush on Tim Curry, and was upset he got killed. Then in my high school Freshman year, I found out Curry was in the Rocky Horror Picture Show, which my Senior friends were part of, and had been trying to get me to go. When I found out Tim Curry was in it, I couldn't WAIT for the next Friday! And you know, I've seen Clue countless times, but it never stops being great. And Tim Curry has absolutely one of my favorite voices EVER! I even have one of his albums. He did music, but his only hit was "I Do The Rock." Not the wrestler, given that it came out decades ago. I enjoyed your reaction, but was a wee bit annoyed you kept cutting the one-liners in half. They're part of what makes this movie so great. I understand you have to trim it down, but it's frustrating when someone speaking gets cut off. I mean, I know every line by heart (to this day whenever someone says "To make a long story short..." I say "Too late!"), but those who don't won't get the full picture. But if nothing else, maybe that will make them go out and watch the whole movie. Oh, and might I suggest "The Crow," if you've never seen it? It's been my favorite movie for 30 years. It's especially poignant knowing the lead, Brandon Lee, Bruce Lee's son, was accidentally killed making it, and was just about a week away from his wedding to his fiancée. (Bruce Lee also died making a movie.) There's a UA-cam channel called "Well, I Never...Stars" that does a story on Brandon and his death, worth checking out. I don't remember there being any spoilers. You can also find Brandon's last interview on UA-cam. If you watch it, prepare to cry, knowing he died very soon after. "The Crow" is Brandon Lee's legacy. He would have been a huge star, and probably would have played Neo in "The Matrix." Fifteen minutes into Keanu's film, I was thinking (no disrespect to Keanu. he did a great job) "Brandon Lee should be playing that role!" Sorry. Didn't mean to write a novel. Very glad you enjoyed "Clue." Just curious, did you realize Professor Plum was Christopher Llyod, "Doc Brown" from the "Back To The Future" trilogy? He was in a lot of other films and a TV series in the 70s called "Taxi."
I enjoyed this movie so much, and various lines from the film, that I made a one person recreation of most of the scenes, in a Review, Reaction, and Recreation, style. Back then I was worried about adding video clips to my reviews. It was still fun to remake some of these scenes, and add new dialog. I even enjoyed "Who Done It: The Clue Documentary", which had the director documentary read the shows unreleased alternate ending, from the novelization, where Wadsworth poisoned everyone, and tried to get away, but the dogs were in the car.
They originally wanted to have Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia from Star Wars) playing Miss Scarlet in this film. However, she was going through some issues at the time, so that's why they went with Lesley Ann Warren instead. She still did a fabulous job in her role though.
Mr body is Lee Ving lead singer of the band punk band Fear. John Belushi loved the band and invited them on to SNL Their fans showed up and trashed the studio when they played. There were banned from ever being on SNL again.
Love this movie! Watched so much as a kid. When it originally came out you had to see it 3 times to see the other endings and didn’t do well until home video. During the pandemic my kids and ex wife rented out a theater for us and other family and watched it for my bday. Tim Curry is amazing!
Butler stepped in dog crap, back in the day no leash law and people didn't pick up dog crap. The scraping of the bottom of your sneakers growing up to remove it was a common thing.
17:50 - All the passages are between rooms on the ground floor. Nothing of consequence happens on any other floor of the house. The floorpan of the first floor is the same as the boardgame. And the secret passages go between the same rooms as the boardgame. (The game of course does not have an attic, second floor, or basement. But the first floor is the same as the playing board). As a production designer, that might be interesting to you! :)
it was John Cleese's idea to make Clue into a game; he wrote a script & was going to play the Butler, "Cleese" but when Jonathan Lynn was hired as director, Lynn & John Landis wrote a whole new script; & Lynn wrote Wadsworth for his old high school friend Tim Curry
Madeline Kahn's "flames on the side of my face" improvisation is an absolute masterpiece. Love this movie.
Still absolutely no cluedo what's funny or even good about it.

I happily went to three different theaters to see all three endings. 😄
Actually, four endings were shot, but the fourth wasn’t funny and it was cut from the released movie.

Is it bad that every time the telegram lady speaks and gets shot I laugh hysterically lol.
No because I definitely did too 😂
And Jane Wiedlin is such a nice person too. She performed the marriage of some friends of mine.
Nope!
Funniest moment in the movie! 😂
Go Go gets shot.
Saw this with my cousins n we kept acting out that part after finishing the movie 😂

Well, we can't have the public laughing at poop jokes, can we?
Neither of those was edited out of the version on UK TV.
For more 80s Tim Curry try Legend with a young Tom Cruze...
You will not recognize Curry..he does a amazing job.
Well in all fairness, I don’t think anyone can recognize Curry with all that make up. 😂

Yeah I found it really odd when I noticed Mrs White wasn't there anymore.

Lesley Ann Warren, not Susan Sarandon. A lot of people make that mistake!
The only people who make that mistake are those unfamiliar with either actress and do not/cannot read the credits.

I still feel that the first ending is the most logical one, thus the *true* ending. I still enjoy the other endings, though.
There are guard dogs right outside ... so what might they be sniffing for?

Enjoying the reaction. I hope you get to react to Once Upon a Crime (1992), another murder mystery with a good ensemble cast. Cheers
This woman is gorgeous!
Love Tim Curry in this
Of course, we all knew who did it...the butler always do it.
This is my all time favorite Tim curry movie
You haven't paid any attention to the beginning..you need to start over!
Love this movie, such a murder mystery classic. Tim Curry stole the show imo, but the whole cast is awesome.
Tim Curry stepped in dog shit so they all smell whats left on his shoes even tho he shoed it off at the door
