Thanks so much for the video, never would have got my knife back together without this advice from this video. I like the glass breaker, but mine had gotten so dirty it would not open anymore. Cleaned all the internal parts and thanks to the video about putting it back together I have my knife functioning again. Thanks Again.
Thank you so much. I live in Massachusetts so I can own but not carry this knife. I was unable to sent it back to Benchmade to put it back together. You saved me thanks!
That is really cool you did this man. I have no idea why Benchmade insists in putting the eyesore of glass breaker on there knives. Honestly if someone is in that type of situation where they need a glass breaker there just gonna throw the whole damn knife through the glass. 😆
This is my second comment. I can't thank you enough for posting this no nonsense how to video. I must have bwatched it a dozen or more times. Because of this video, I was able to get mine apart and back together a few times now. I was able to remove my glass breaker and replace it with a homemade lanyard hole. It worked out ok but left me with much respect and admiration for the job you did in designing your plug. Mine is nowhere near as intricate. Plus, I had to grind down the back of the blade carriage just a tiny bit to make room for my part. I made a skeleton of stainless steel wire mesh and sonme ss wire and hand formed the rest with JB WELD steel stick epoxy putty, which could be a perfect color to match, depending on the ratio it's mixed at. Something I noticed while learning how to reassemble mine is that it goes together much easier if you lay the blade side of the handle on its back and lower the spring assembly half of the handle down onto the knife half. I was not so successful on my first couple attempts at reassembly. My grease wasn't sticky enough to hold those little dog springs in place so I cheated a little and applied a tiny amount of CA glue (super/crazy glue) in those little spring pockets. That worked better than I thought and didn't affect the functionality of the knife at all. I think next I'll mess with those little dog springs.. they look like the same diameter as those springs in Bic lighters that keep the flint in positive contact with the striker wheel. Lighter dog Springs will make it open easier, wouldn't it? But too light of a spring will make it not open at all probably right cuz not enough pressure will build up before they release or something like that. Anyway, thanks again. I'll keep you posted on any new discoveries.
I’m so glad this video helped you out. I love to hear about people making their own mods! Let me know how the springs workout. It’s been a long time since I’ve handled a big lighter spring, but I would guess that it would be a bit heavier tension than the stock shootout dog springs. But, I’m just guessing. Thanks again for watching the kind words!
This video is a year old, so I decided to look through the comments to see if this question had been addressed yet. It has not. I really want that little clip. I can’t find anything about it from benchmade, so I think I might just have to modify the one that I have. Should be really easy, but only because I have the means to do it. I know it wouldn’t be super easy for everybody without the tools or know how.
This is an awesome idea! You might have mentioned this somewhere else, but what do you use for a 3d printer to make these spacers/glass breaker deletes? They seem like they are really good quality.
Good dissasembly vid, I still managed to lose aone of the tiny springs, does anyone know where I can get one (without jumping through benchmade's ship it to a dealer circus)?
The blank out, I don’t understand why anyone would want to get rid of such a great glass breaker. The day after you put that blank in is the day your going to to need that shit to save your life of someone else’s. So I wouldn’t suggest doing this unless you have a dedicated glass breaker in your EDC.. just my two cents
Nah you'll practically never need a glass breaker. But you'll feel that dumb glass breaker every single time you go to draw the knife. I got this shootout and returned it immediately because of how irritating the glass breaker is. I went for the model without
Anyone else find theirs difficult to deploy? I mean maybe not DIFFICULT but harder than it should be? Almost like something inside is too tight or something? I had a shootout that I got used and it didn’t have this issue at all. I lost that one, got a new one, and seems like its way harder to deploy than my old one.
Great idea, great execution. What do you think about including a lanyard hole in your part somehow? I like the mini pocket clip too. That's an option that I hadn't thought of. I noticed that the pocket clip it comes with can get a bit uncomfortable when you really have to bear down on your grip for some reason. Before I saw your videos today, I was thinking about removing my glass breaker, coating all the mating surfaces with grease and filling the void with some JB Weld 2 part epoxy putty. The grease will keep the epoxy from adhering to the knife. Oh. ..and what if I try to swap out my glass breaker and I can't get it back together? Can I send you all the parts and the $35? Will you put it back together?
Thanks so much for watching. I will for sure reassemble your Shootout if you get into trouble. The mini deep carry clip is for sure the way to go.. IMO. Thanks again!
@@OCD4EDC where can i get a mini deep pocket clip? Im thinking i can modify the one it came with, but really, I'd prefer a lanyard hole and no clip. ...a little monkey's fist at the end of the lanyard will make the knife as accessible without the knife playing gate keeper on my dominant pocket. Lol What are you calling your part? ..a delete? I wonder if you can drill diagonally from two positions, towards each other to make a lanyard hole?
Man its like people with the bailout the end sticking out it is literally never an issue i dont get it lol. Personally if i was doing anything its be get ti handles made cause cf shit always feels too light
I know a lot of people that don’t like the Bailout because of the glass breaker. IMO glass breakers are just a marketing gimmick. I have never met anyone that has ever truly needed a glass breaker. Thanks for watching!
Cool mod but the glass breaker is a good feature to have. Why remove it? You gain nothing from removing it except losing a function of the knife. Also, $35 installation. Ooof.
@@nenadcubric2663 I agree personal choice and don't really need one unless the car is in the lake filling with water and your inside doors stuck....well then you probably could use it..definitely more fad..or sale point mainly...😁🇺🇸🔪
Cool idea. No offense, but this is a knife designed for duty use. Not the blob in his lazy boy that bought this because he thinks a pokey knife that goes erect is cool. Ill keep the glass breaker for the off chance I need to bust out a window. Ive done in numerous times with other similar style knives.
This is more for knife esthetics than anything, let’s be honest. Most of this is pocket jewelry anyway. As for the glass breaking, I’ve done it many times as well. Never in an actual emergency though. I know 30+ year cops & fireman that have never needed a glass breaker either. I think it’s a pretty safe bet to say these types of things on knives are just a marketing gimmick. Fantasy mall ninja stuff. Thanks for watching!
Love the mod. It was fairly easy to install with your instructions. Thanks!
Bro you’re super talented and your ability to explain step by step has me clinging to every word. Great job🤙🏽
Just got your glassbreaker delete today. I got it installed with no problems. Its a really well made part. Thank you and have a great day!! 👍
Great to hear! I'm glad you like it, thanks for watching and the support!
Awesome idea Justin, Your hustle is legit. Very cool mod for those not into glass breakers.
What do you do when you launch that spring into orbit? Asking for a friend.

I finally scored a Shootout and received it in the mail yesterday. It feels really good in the hand and love how lightweight it is for an otf.

I had heard this disassembly was hard but I'm not seeing it in here. Great video.
Thank you so much!! Got mine cleaned up and lubed and it’s SPICY now!!!!
Pretty cool hustle..talented skillset you have.
My Shootout has a longer pocket clip. Is yours aftermarket, or did Benchmade change it at some point?

Very nice - the black looks especially nice to me. Ordered.
Nice work! Have you considered making one with a pocket for a tritium tube? Or maybe some glow in the dark plastics.
I like it...however the glass breaker was a selling point for me personally. looks good and if I ever decide to ditch it know where to go.
Great mod, you should make another one with a little lanyard hole for that gang.
Thanks for watching. I’ll look into that.
Well done, I hope they do a drop point.
Just orderd 2, of them, regards from Croatia
How much weight does the GBD shave off of original shootout?
Would it be possible to make some natural jade g10 or some micarta scales for it?
What is the size of those springs and are there and alternative to the factory springs,
Do you know if these work with the version with the pommel?
Great video! Will you be restocking the carbon fiber version of the GBD anytime soon? Thanks!
You should make a less sharp and steeper ramped actuation switch for the microtech ultratech.
To replace, you just need to take off the side with the blade?
Would you recomend, blue lock tight, on those screws?
Hello does the glass breaker delete part also work with the pommel ?
Ya...I was wondering the same it looks like it should did you pick one up?
thoughts on making the grip metal? is there already one made?
I love that otf, but Hate the glaasbreaker, your replacement part is perfect, i would love to buy, 2 of them from you
Would be awesome to have a lanyard loop on one!
Awesome thanks for video gotta pick up a shootout

Awesome, i need 1, to replace the glaasbreaker
The new colors of shootout don't have that same glass breaker
thats pretty awesome
I will follow you, step by step, to replace it👍👍
I'm actually looking for the glass breaker piece replacement. Does anyone know where I can get one of if they have one for sale? Thank you.

You need to send this vid to metalcomplex
Thanks for the video
Is that a bugout pocket clip?
Yes, this is the mini deep carry clip from Benchmade. Thanks for watching!
Will these be back In stock or are you not doing anymore
Yes, these will be back in stock later this week. Thanks so much for watching and the support!
Just ordered the fde color way the dam glass breaker ripped my seat when I hopped in the truck .
Make a glow in the dark?
Make some metal scales!
