So happy to have you writing your first words of book two on the stream! AuthorTube Cafe sounds like SUCH a fun idea!! I can't wait to watch the new series and see all the things you do with your platform moving forward! You're killing it! :)
Hi ! Your videos are always so perfectly edited ! It feels like this video isn't just a writing vlog but also a story you want to tell us, which is your journey as a writer. I love this so much ! 😊 I wish you the best for your book and I am so excited to read it someday !! ❤️
the perfect fall vibes 🍁🍂 can’t believe it’s already been a year since this channel has been birthed and your 2nd nano already, excited to follow along! 🫎❤
🦌I'm on my laptop, so I could only find a deer, no moose! I absolutely love your video, and this one in particular really inspired me. I loved seeing your joy for your project, and how you're taking it easy on yourself and finding the happiness in writing. I'm in a spot right now where writing is feeling very tedious and very daunting, and I've been trying to figure out a new process so I can get that flow and that joy back. This was really really inspiring, and I'm so grateful you decided to share your journey with us. Thank you. Happy Wiritng! 🧡
The goal of just spending time in my world/with my characters is so real. Learning more about it/them, even if it’s only 50 new words on the page, is valuable!!
finally got around to watching this video! i looove the cinematography, seattle has brought out an amazing side of your creativity when it comes to creating your videos and i'm so here for it
brielle - I'm so pro a dialogue first draft! and I think your instinct is so right, just try out a bunch of methods and see which one you like -- sometimes you might even need to change the method for a specific project -- there's really no one size fits all 💕so excited to see more of your drafting and sending you all the good vibes! i'm a zero draft + dialogue first girlie
agreed!! im discovering my drafting approach is even varying slightly depending on the scene or part of the book so just trying to flow with it!! sending you all the good vibes for your wip
Omg hi! 🙋🏼♀️ The TrackBear story is so cute and it's such a great interface 🥹 Another beautifully cinematic intro AND a solid start to drafting your sequel, wow! 🫶🏻 Day 1 definitely felt like Christmas to me too. As for my drafting style, I am definitely a zero draft outliner, but a prose-focused drafter if that makes sense? I'm really trying not to edit as I write because it takes waaaaay too long to get anything on the page, but it's definitely a work in progress 😅 Can't wait for authortube cafe!! ☕️🍵🫎
Omg yesss matcha using the bowl and whisk is the way to go! 🫶 and yay!! I can’t wait to hear more about authortube cafe! Sounds like a fun segment in your channel 🥹
This video is fantastic! It’s giving me cozy fall vibes, your excitement is contagious and inspirational and can I say it’s visually stunning as well! ❤
the way I found you from your nano series last year and now get to follow your journey of drafting the second book this year is so special 🫶✨ also my favorite thing about traveling to the PNW was the coffee trucks! absolutely ingenuous and needs to be implemented everywhere ☕️
aww that is so sweet 💗 and yes the coffee trucks have changed my life...i went to so many on my writing retreat...im gonna need more of them near me lol
Congrats on the progress! I love watching your videos, and seeing this community come together to help each other out! Can't wait to see the new series! ♥
That's a fantastic word count and chapter milestone so far! I haven't really delved into writing in November as I'm stuck with my plot at the moment, but seeing videos like these always inspire me to get back into gear and figure things out so I can get back to writing! Might even try TrackBear, thanks for sharing and can't wait for the next update :D 🫎
Love the vibes with this vlog!! My drafting style is very much "get it on the page first, it'll improve later" becuase I'm better at revision than I am at first drafts. Someone once described it like needing to work with the clay before being able to make a pot, which feels natural to me. (also 👀 did I hear a little shoutout to a future patreon?? exciting!)
My first draft tends to be on the clean and thorough side! That’s part of the reason it takes me so long, but I can’t help myself. If I’m stuck on certain details, I’ll add a note with brackets, but it’s generally complete, which makes the second draft and revisions go quicker.
Congrats on writing the first words of book two in your series, that’s quite an accomplishment! 🎉When it comes to writing, I usually have a very detailed outline on the page first, and then I try to make the draft as polished as possible before sending the finished piece to beta-readers. I really thought I wouldn’t be able to participate or really do any writing this month because I suffered a serious case of burnout in the past week. But after seeing the last video and this one, I’ve been able to write 2,378 words in two days! Thank you again for creating this series, can’t wait for the next entry! Now I need to finish this scene checklist before I head into work 😂
12:25 - I have never really done the zero-draft method, but I do tend to draft with less than true end goal for whatever project I work. I've never truly had "editor brain" when I draft my stories. I find that I tell myself "come back to that later" all the time, especially when I have a steady writing momentum. Gaining momentum is tricky in my house, so when I have it, I run with it until it's gone. I'm working on a fantasy epic this month, and I gave myself a low goal of 25k, to get the bones of the story down and then I will go back and beef it up to have a length that better suits the genre. Thankfully, it is set in a world that I am already familiar with, so I am not building the world as I write. I can work on the story and character arcs, and add my known world details as I go. I don't usually leave comments, but I love watching your videos! Happy writing!
🫎 my November didn’t start very well but I’m catching up. 2400 ish words into book two so far. Emotionally, I feel a bit less engaged but it’ll get better as I start writing more consistently. Loved the video. All the best. 😊
damn Ian that's some fast progress in the last couple days!! thanks for the moose emoji lol--wishing you the best with your project going forward and hope you start to feel a bit more emotionally engaged!
I tend to write pretty clean first drafts, but honestly I think it's a detriment to me because so much developmental work happens after so a lot of those words didn't matter regardless! So when I get to my YA fantasy first draft, I think I'm going to try to do a little of both--whatever my brain feels like going with for that scene or chapter. ALSO AuthorTube Cafe sounds sooo cute and I cannot wait to watch! 🫎
i totally feel that! but i loved the reframe of 'no words are wasted words' bc at the end of the day every word we write helps us improve even if it ends up being rewritten later :) so i think writing a clean first draft isn't a waste bc you got to practice!! maybe thats just the optimist in me lol. excited to start dropping the authortube cafe episodes:)
Long time watching, first time commenting! Honestly, I’ve done both as far as writing a clean first draft and doing a bone draft. I would say I prefer a messy first draft. Just because even when I was writing as cleanly as possible, there were so many concepts or ideas or scene as a whole that had to be rewritten entirely. Overall, it’s just less work to do a messy first draft and then revising in rounds. Writing a perfect first draft takes a lot longer and it can mess with like your momentum or your spirit or feeling about the story if that makes any sense.
Totally makes sense! Def agree trying for a clean draft takes way longer. Thanks for commenting on this one, nice to hear from u! Appreciate you being here!
Man, I'm so encouraged. I am currently where you were last year (apparently) on AuthorTube. 💜 Also, I've been craving matcha for like three days. Imma need to fix that now 😅 Also, also, I'm a "barf draft" person. My first draft is just writing the answer to: "ok, now what?"
I write a 0 draft, just to get the idea of the story down. I find outlines hard because I know the beginning and end but I like to explore the middle and learn the characters
The first draft of my first book was messy!! But I noticed that my first draft of my sequel has been a lot cleaner? I don’t think it’s through intention though, it’s still messy, but by comparison I know what I wrote and how I write better so I think it’s just coming out easier. Probably not helpful 😂 but I guess trust what comes out? It’s probably better than you think it is
i like this! i totally resonate, i can definitely feel a difference from book one to book two just in terms of my writing ability, which will (hopefully) mean less heavy rewrites in draft two!
I am a discovery/gardener writer, so my method is a mix of fast and slow. In past NaNoWriMo events, I learned to prioritize quality over quantity. After reaching 50k words, I often had to face major rewrites, so now my approach is not about writing as fast but as much as I can, and listening to my inner critic/reader. When I start to feel disconnected from the story, I stop and slow down to identify what’s going on with it.
i really resonate with that! i've never heard the term gardener writer, super interesting. I also try to prioritize quality > quantity when it comes to writing goals--thats ultimately what serves the story (and me!) best. thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I’m a big fan of outlines but there are always more discoveries to be made during the writing process! The first book I ever tried to write was a skeleton draft. Super underwriter. But as I’ve progressed I’ve gotten a lot better at outlining and planning 😁🫎
