I love when writers are so transparent about financial info. I'd love periodic updates - even if not exact numbers, percentages or another way to show your growth moving forward.
BRIELLE!! I am literally sobbing at my desk. So proud to call you a friend and I can't wait to see where this path you are cultivating leads! *money with wings emoji*
I resonate with your journey a lot! I'm at a stage with my channel where I've been making videos for over a year but I'm feeling directionless, and I dont have a (vocal) core audience, even though I'm monetized. You've really cracked the code on getting viewers invested in you - I was recommended one video of yours and promptly watched every other video on your channel. It feels cohesive and episodic. So congrats! You're doing it! ❤
Brielle you are such an inspiration! I truly appreciate your transparency and how open you are about your journey. It is great to watch you grow. Hugs from Spain. 💗
I took a chance on myself last December and walked away from my corporate job while I am still working on my academic career. The first basically seven months of this year I was working on school, developing my personal brand and then working on creating a whole platform for my family's new business. It takes SO much time in the beginning to have everything fleshed out and is such good advice. Eventually, I had to take another corporate job (receptionist but still) to be able to fund my life. It's something that is very time consuming and I am still working on my personal brand as well - not necessarily the filming side of it in order to be able to publish and research independently. I appreciate the realistic reflection
Ahhh, congrats! I can so relate to the optimism and trying so many different things. This is crazy...I've self-published books and started a photography business. Most of my income is still from photography now, but it also helps with making UA-cam videos. Anyway, love hearing your story!
You expressed so many things I’ve been going through lately and as someone who is pursuing a creative career in their mid 20s the grind is so real! Thank you for your pov and inspiring words !!
watching this hits different when i think back on our conversations from so long ago 🥹💕 so proud of you bestie and can't wait to see what the future holds 💸✨
I've been considering making a pivot to authortube for sometime since I've started writing my book and this has given me even more inspiration to do so! Thank you for your transparency and sharing your story! I can't wait to read your work and see how far you grow 💜
Would love to know more about how to ask or negotiate money with brands. I do quite a bit of brand sponsorships but it’s always the product I trade for the review! Also THANK YOU for being so clear cut about this. This is such a opaque subject with people and I watch a lot of these
Part of me wants to start a Authortube channel...but I am too worried about my coworkers or family finding the channel. :/ Trying to focus on releasing my first book for now. Your growth is so inspiring, and I hope you continue to succeed! It's also nice to see a UA-camr who can you can genuinely feel is thankful for their subscribers and humbled. Keep that up!
I feel that haha! I just changed my UA-cam name to my actual name instead of an ambiguous one and I’m legit scared of family seeing it 😂😂😂 at least hoping they don’t find it until my channel is actually good haha
if its any comfort, its very unlikely for people to find your channel on accident. that has pretty much never happened to me, unlike some other social media platforms, youtube is unlikely to recommend your video to somebody that you know! definitely don't let that be the thing that stops you. but thank you so much! :)
Thank you for sharing your story Brielle! I'm in the similar journey of making a living from writing. I pay my bills from writing for my client blog and working on my blog too. It's been a long journey but I've never been happier ❤
That is amazing!! Congrats on reaching the point of being able to pay your bills, that is a huge milestone not to be underestimated! looking forward to getting there :)
Congrats Brielle! This is so so amazing and I'm tearing up with you! I love how you talked about this being years in the making and how many pivots you made along the way! 💸
Congratulations!! I am so happy for you following your dreams. I needed to hear this. I’ve been on UA-cam for 14+ years. I tried new strategies and pivoted so much that I never caught my stride. I felt like I was wasting time countless times. Your video is giving me hope to keep going and changing the strategy up despite all I’ve been through. I realize I wasn’t wasting time but learning. Thank you for the motivation I needed today. You are making an impact, Brielle.
So so happy for you!! I appreciate the realness of this video. I found your channel a year ago, and I cannot thank you enough for being a source of inspiration for creatives everywhere
i adored how you shared your journey along with the stats. a lot of people don’t realise the ‘pre-work’ it takes to get where you are now!🤍✨ you getting emotional made me get emotional too. bc sometimes i feel myself just get into the momentum of editing the next video and doing the next brand deal that i don’t look back and see how much i’ve grown. something i love about UA-cam is how you have done it all YOURSELF. and my channel, and im sure yours, is something that I am most proud of in my life🥺 thank u for making me realise that Brielle. you’re amazing and super inspiring to me as someone still in law school who (goodness forbid) STILL thinks i desperately need a corporate law job to sustain myself and make my parents proud. im not sure where I’ll end up but i will never stop doing the things I love and that creatively sustain me!🤍🤗 ur seriously so amazing brielle!! congrats 🥳
Ana!!! 🥹💗 you have so much to be proud of, ur truly an inspiration within this community and im so glad this was a reminder to appreciate how far you've come :')
I love that you shared your story and insights learned along the way. like you with your photography, I banged my head against the wall for years with trying to run & market my handmade product based business. it always felt like pulling teeth to grow it. I’ve always been scared to make youtube videos but it was my favorite, “safe” platform as far as consumption, so using instagram to grow probably was a major error since it doesn’t feel like a comfort platform for me. when I finally started a channel just doing my cozy hobbies I feel like everything just clicked into place for me. I think the reason it can take time to find your niche but when we do what is authentic to us, we can connect with those who are aligned with us and much more “effortlessly”
yes! precisely. your channel seems like such a good fit for you and your interests, i love that :) i feel similarly about platforms, youtube is the only platform i enjoy consuming so its a no-brainer to create on here. thanks for sharing your thoughts morgan!! love seeing you grow :')
BRIELLE!!!! This pep talk is exactly what I needed to hear to start planning my comeback to UA-cam in January. I am so proud of all your success and the future success that you will have. Don't go anywhere!! I look forward to all your videos! Keep up the good work, and happy writing!!! 💜💙💝
Brielle! I watch you on my *secret* channel that I watch everyone on but had to switch over to this one to comment. This video was simply wonderful. As a wanna-be writer and newly monetised youtuber I cannot tell you how inspiring and emotional this was to watch. It took me 17 years of making youtube videos before I reached 1,000 subscribers on this channel (which I think is channel 6 perhaps?!). I truly needed to hear what you said about pivoting, it's what led me to monetising and think it will lead to more growth. Have a wonderful weekend and best of luck to you, will be supporting you as always 💸
You deserve every ounce of your success, Brielle! Something about you has golden girl energy and I love to see you pursuing *and fulfilling* your dreams. 🤩🤩
I'm so glad I discovered your channel last month. You're truly so inspiring and geniune and just give off such good vibes. Gives me hope that I'll find what I'm meant to do and have the guts and tenacity to pursue it. ❤
this is so inspiring!! congrats on your monetary growth on your creative endeavors🥳 I love how reflective the chat at the end was, you can really tell that you're finally doing what you've always meant to
I’m crying with you!!! I’ve been on a really similar journey the past few years so hearing you talk about all of this could not have come at a better time. This is my third time pivoting lol and I’m working on my first video for this channel now. I hope the good feeling I have about this is a sign. Thank you for sharing! It’s so encouraging to see you succeeding!! 💸💸
Oh I loved this so much! Thank you for sharing and how amazing that you found the thread that is activating you!! You briefly talked about Katie, and imma say you are her for me. So thank you! 🙏🏼✨I’m trying to hype myself up every day to have the courage to just start!! 😂🤭
AW so honored that i'm your katie, haha. that is so sweet. and here's me telling you... GO FOR IT!! getting started is scary but so worth it!! cheering for you!
I love this video! I also recently quit my job to pursue self-employment/have more time for my writing, and you sharing your journey is so appreciated. You're killing it! ☺👏🏻
Brielle i am SO proud of you! every day i am so glad i discovered this channel and im even more glad i get to watch you achieve your dreams and continue to grow, you are killing it!! keep pursuing what you love, this is amazing!!! ❤💸
Gosh this video is really so inspiring. I also feel like I’m in a bit of a rut with regular work and life, but UA-cam and creativity and filmmaking is something that is really exciting to me. I’m so inspired to keep working on making it become a reality :)
I’ve been subscribed for a little under a year and the growth you’ve made is incredible!! I think that is also due to all the hard work and effort you put into your videos. The production value and quality you put into your videos as “small creator” is amazing. You’ve really proved that consistency can really pay off!! I’m so proud of you!! And you don’t even have your book out yet!! Imagine what will happen when you publish!! Can’t wait to read Unraveling and watch you continue to succeed, Brielle!! 🤎🤎🤎
Brielle, thank you for sharing your journey and the emotion behind the numbers. It's really inspiring to see, especially since I feel like I personally am definitely in the stage of fumbling around in the dark, LOL. I discovered you on this channel, and truly the reason why I got hooked and am still watching is because of the energy you bring to your life and videos. We can FEEL your excitement and joy, and it's infectious! I bet making the pivot to this channel allowed you to be even more yourself/joyful, which I think must have been a game changer for growing connections and a community on UA-cam and beyond! Yay!
BRI…ELLE!! Success well earned! Your content is an absolute treat and you have been a huge inspiration (am also a Katie Wismer fan)!! This was the kind of advice video we needed and I really appreciate all of the insights you’ve given. 🎉🎉
This was honestly so inspiring! Thank you for sharing all this, you had me tearing up. I'm so happy for you. Can't wait for you to drop that patreon! 💸
This is AMAZING Brielle! As someone who's also been posting on UA-cam for many years, its inspiring to see that you made it to the light at the end of the tunnel! Thank you for sharing! 💸
Aw Brielle! I love this video! I actually think I remember watching a video from your other channel a long time ago and (at least from what I remember) I think you shine differently as an authortuber! I really think this is what you're meant to do and I'm so happy for you! No time is time wasted, because everything you did set you up for where you're right now! So excited to see where this leads and what more you have in store for us ❤
💸💸💸 love love loveeee everything about this! The numbers (I *love* numbers and pie charts and those tangible milestone markers!!) the analytical mindset, the reflections! It’s SO COOL to hear about your journey and you deserve 😭 get emotional! Your dreams are coming true 🥹
This is so inspiring! Like you, I don’t want to work in a 9-5 job. I have been writing my newsletter for 4 years and I am still figuring it out. But I am having fun!
Girl! That growth! 📈 💸 Cue Me sitting here unmonetized, with 4 subscribers , tearing up... Im so encouraged by you, your creativity, your drive, your optimism. Cheers girl! 🍵 (With a matcha, of course) 💸
wow, Brielle I am so proud of you, and so happy to have found your content. hearing about your journey so far is not only so inspiring but just so exciting knowing that this is just the beginning still. you are so genuine and passionate, which are honestly vital traits for content creation, I'm just glad I get to watch (and read!) you put out into the world. looking forward to all that is to come from you 🥰 also I know it's not much but knowing about how the Amazon links work now I'll be clicking on your affiliate links before I make any purchases on there (which isn't often but hey) 💸
Congratulations! It’s so inspiring that you’re building this life for yourself, and I’m so glad you can do the things you love and make money off it, too. I think trying multiple things and looking at other people’s journeys is great advice, honestly, I stopped writing for so long and just recently started watching authortube, and you’re actually one of the authortubers that made me want to start a channel and try writing again
💸💸💸 I’m so excited for you!! 🙌🏻 Thanks for sharing your journey and income so transparently, it’s so inspiring as a fellow long time writer but newer UA-camr 🥹
omg :') YOU'RE KILLING IT TOO!! thank you sm Kelley it means the absolute world!!! 🥹💗 def will be giving some tips in future vids hehe tho i think i'm the one that needs ur tips!!
I was just thinking today that I wanted to ask for a video on how you balance two channels! This is my second channel, and I can already see it growing faster than my other one did in its first couple of months. I started to just want to focus on this one and basically quit the other one because this is more fun and easier at least for now. But my other channel is still 5x larger for now. I was wondering how you balance going back and forth and what your schedule is like for each. I'm enjoying both of yours, but it seems like a lot of content!
This is EXACTLY what I want to do! I wasn't sure if it's possible to do this, so I'm very appreciative that you put this video together. My little channel is only at 350 subscribers but I'm really hoping it takes off so I can do what you do. Just subbed :)
25:25 I was in a similar situation with my first channel too; making content about things that I liked that should've stayed a hobby instead of a platform/business. Thank you so much for sharing this and I'm so happy for you!
Omg congratulations on nearly making enough to pay rent!!!!! 💸 It was so interesting getting to listen to your journey in so much detail! I'm fascinated by you having had a channel before this one, because from the outside looking in it really does seem like you grew so fast, it's very difficult not to be a little bit jealous. I'm curious as to how much you attribute this channel growing so well to changing niches on youtube, as opposed to just starting fresh with a new channel after having a bit more experience? I've been making authortube videos for years now, but since my channel was previously a travelling channel and then an art channel after that, I'm wondering if part of the reason it feels so stuck is just because it's so old and all over the place. Do you think the new channel pivot would be beneficial even if I would then continue in the same niche in a new channel? I've been thinking about doing that for ages, but leaving behind all of my existing videos feels like such a difficult thing to do.
hi Marta! that's a great question. i can't say for sure, i do think the fresh channel may have been a factor, it was super clear to the algorithm (and my audience) what kind of content they could expect from day one, so i think that might have helped. the algorithm loves a cohesive channel. That being said i do think the authortube niche itself was a big factor in my growth, even watching other creators' journeys i do think its an easier niche to grow in than most, and you have the benefit of a very clear niche + an excited audience. i'd say it might be worth a try to start a fresh channel and start with a bang-my first video on this channel did well, and i think that set me up for success. def no need to delete your old content, i faced similar feelings of 'well am i just throwing away the hundreds of videos i made on my own channel?' but i find comfort in those videos still being public and me/any interested audience members still being able to watch them. idk hopefully that helps lol
This is WILD my journey was so similar…except I started photography right out of high school and had to quit my photography buisness because of my health (I have Elhers Danlos syndrome, POTS, and a fainting disorder 😅) I was finally making decent money but it was sooooooo much work. It was pretty high stress especially being stressed about appeasing clients 😭 I’m currently taking a year off and I reallllly want to make the author thing work. I have a few videos in the works but video is new to me lol so it’s taking forever to learn everything. This is so encouraging!!!
I'm sooo glad this was encouraging! So crazy to see the similarities in our journeys. Yeah, the high stress of appeasing clients seems so stressful...wishing you the best of luck on these new endeavors!
CONGRATS! Can you make a video abt free writing, planning, and world building resources because I’m a young writer and I can’t afford a lot of programs
Hey! There's lots of great tip videos on youtube, honestly you don't need any crazy resources to get started (in fact i feel like a lot of resources just end up being distracting), the best learning you will do is just from practicing!! so go for it!! :)
I am so dang excited for you and I know you're going to continue to soar! I'd love to pick your brain on your process of getting started and the things you would recommend getting in order for a successful channel (the logistic side of things related to the algo and such)! Or if you have any resources to point me to, I'd greatly appreciate it!
i made a video on this! it was called something along the lines of 'how to start an authortube channel from scratch' and includes tips, my equipment etc etc. i recommend checking that out! there's also an entire playlist i made talking about youtube [including tips videos, how i plan my content, etc] on my other channel, Brielle Juliet, and i stand by that advice still :) hope that helps!
general rule that i think is a good starting point is to charge around $100 per 1K views you get on a typical video. Ex. if your channel typically gets 2K views/video, you want to aim for about $200 from a sponsor. That being said I recommend charging a minimum of $100 regardless of channel size, just because your time alone is worth that. I also always throw out a substantially higher rate first, so that there's room for the brand to negotiate and for me to still get a rate im happy with. hope that helps! i'll talk about this more in a video about sponsorships on my other channel soon!
soso proud of you Brielle! seeing what you are able to do & how you are able to scale your business pouring yourself into it full time for the month of October is SO amazing and beautiful - you are building & creating the life you’ve been dreaming of! not only how much you made but how much you have been able to write and progress as a writer! I am so emotional with you and am already imagining this video in the coming years and seeing book sales factored in! 🥹💓
🥹 SO SWEET thank you morgan!!! it'll be honestly surreal when i can include book royalties, getting chills just thinking about it lol, thank you for being along for the ride!! getting to spend more time on my creativity is def the biggest blessing (+ the main reason i want to scale this biz in the first place!!)
I love when writers are so transparent about financial info. I'd love periodic updates - even if not exact numbers, percentages or another way to show your growth moving forward.
good to hear! updates to come 🩷

Yay!
aw! i definitely feel much more excited & creatively fulfilled with this content, im so glad that is palpable through the screen!!

Omg, same about affiliate links! I usually make nothing from it, but I'm excited when I do get a few bucks
This is so inspiring! Like you, I don’t want to work in a 9-5 job. I have been writing my newsletter for 4 years and I am still figuring it out. But I am having fun!
Having fun throughout the process is so key! rooting for you!
Girl! That growth! 📈 💸
Cue Me sitting here unmonetized, with 4 subscribers , tearing up... Im so encouraged by you, your creativity, your drive, your optimism.

wow, Brielle I am so proud of you, and so happy to have found your content. hearing about your journey so far is not only so inspiring but just so exciting knowing that this is just the beginning still. you are so genuine and passionate, which are honestly vital traits for content creation, I'm just glad I get to watch (and read!) you put out into the world. looking forward to all that is to come from you 🥰
also I know it's not much but knowing about how the Amazon links work now I'll be clicking on your affiliate links before I make any purchases on there (which isn't often but hey) 💸
aw. thank you this is so sweet!!! i appreciate you being here!!
Thank you so much! And that is awesome. Best of luck with your channel + writing again!
💸💸💸 I’m so excited for you!! 🙌🏻 Thanks for sharing your journey and income so transparently, it’s so inspiring as a fellow long time writer but newer UA-camr 🥹
Thank you sm, Lindsey! Best of luck w your channel :')
Congratulations, sweetie! I love your content ❤
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoy it!
so happy for you!! you go girl! 💸💸💸
Thank so much!
Thank you so much for sharing this!!
💗
I'm so happy for your success!!
omg :') YOU'RE KILLING IT TOO!! thank you sm Kelley it means the absolute world!!!
So happy for you!!!! 🎉
thank you !!
This is EXACTLY what I want to do! I wasn't sure if it's possible to do this, so I'm very appreciative that you put this video together. My little channel is only at 350 subscribers but I'm really hoping it takes off so I can do what you do. Just subbed :)
Yay! I'm so glad it had that impact. Im cheering for you!! it's possible!!!
25:25 I was in a similar situation with my first channel too; making content about things that I liked that should've stayed a hobby instead of a platform/business. Thank you so much for sharing this and I'm so happy for you!
Thank you! i'm glad you related.
Omg congratulations on nearly making enough to pay rent!!!!! 💸
It was so interesting getting to listen to your journey in so much detail!
That being said i do think the authortube niche itself was a big factor in my growth, even watching other creators' journeys i do think its an easier niche to grow in than most, and you have the benefit of a very clear niche + an excited audience. i'd say it might be worth a try to start a fresh channel and start with a bang-my first video on this channel did well, and i think that set me up for success. def no need to delete your old content, i faced similar feelings of 'well am i just throwing away the hundreds of videos i made on my own channel?' but i find comfort in those videos still being public and me/any interested audience members still being able to watch them. idk hopefully that helps lol
love love love THIS message! Even when stumbling around in the dark for a little while, we are still learning so much
YES! without realizing it i was learning so much during that whole time! i also love sarah sutton's videos :)
💸 thanks for the video Brielle!!
glad you enjoyed it!
2:42 I am sat🍿
the popcorn emoji is everything!!
How do you decide where to start at pricing for sponsorships?
general rule that i think is a good starting point is to charge around $100 per 1K views you get on a typical video. Ex. if your channel typically gets 2K views/video, you want to aim for about $200 from a sponsor.
🥹 SO SWEET thank you morgan!!! it'll be honestly surreal when i can include book royalties, getting chills just thinking about it lol, thank you for being along for the ride!! getting to spend more time on my creativity is def the biggest blessing (+ the main reason i want to scale this biz in the first place!!)
please do a q&a!!!
will do!
@ could you tell me which platform you work for that freelance job?
